Abstract
Enhancing the pH-independence and controlling the magnitude of electroosmotic flow (EOF) are critical for highly efficient and reproducible capillary electrophoresis (CE) separations. Herein, we present a novel capillary modification method utilizing sulfonated periodate-induced polydopamine (SPD) coating to achieve pH-independent and highly reproducible cathodic EOF in CE. The SPD-coated capillaries were obtained through post-sulfonation treatment of periodate-induced PDA (PDA-SP) coatings adhered on the capillary inner surface. The successful immobilization of the SPD coating and the substantial grafting of sulfonic acid groups were confirmed by a series of characterization techniques. The excellent capability of PDA-SP@capillary in masking silanol groups and maintaining a highly robust EOF mobility was verified. Additionally, the parameters of sulfonation affecting the EOF mobilities were thoroughly examined. The obtained optimum SPD-coated column offered the anticipated highly pH-independent and high-strength cathodic EOF, which is essential for enhancing the CE separation performance and improving analysis efficiency. Consequently, the developed SPD-coated capillaries enabled successful high-efficiency separation of aromatic acids and nucleosides and rapid cyclodextrin-based chiral analysis of racemic drugs. Moreover, the SPD-coated columns exhibited a long lifetime and demonstrated good intra-day, inter-day, and column-to-column repeatability.

Abstract
An electrochemical aptamer sensor based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was developed for highly specific sensing of melamine (MEL), which combines molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) and aptamers. AuNPs were synthesized by simple reduction of sodium citrate and characterized by transmission electron microscopy. The MIP membranes with particular recognition sites were formed by electropolymerization of dopamine (DA) with polythymine (poly T) aptamers as functional monomers and melamine as template molecules. Under optimal experimental conditions, this molecularly imprinted electrochemical aptamer sensor (MIEAS) exhibits a linear relationship between 10-12 M and 10-4 M for detecting MEL with the detection limit of 6.7 × 10-13 M. Moreover, this sensor displays excellent selectivity, reproducibility and stability. The milk samples analysis has confirmed the potential application of this MIEAS to quantitative detection of melamine.

Abstract
Illegal addition of melamine (MEL) to milk has caused serious food safety accident. It is urgent to develop a highly sensitive method for detecting MEL in milk. β-Cyclodextrin with inner hydrophobic and outer hydrophilic cavities have been widely used in smart sensors design. In this study, an "ON-OFF-ON" sensor for MEL detection was constructed based on β-cyclodextrin modified carbon nanoparticles (β-CD-CNPs). The sensor is switched "OFF" when Fe3+ interacts with β-CD-CNPs and switched "ON" when MEL replaces Fe3+. Fluorescence recovery of β-CD-CNPs exhibits good linear correlations with MEL concentration ranging from 10.00 ng/mL ~ 180.00 ng/mL and 180.00 ~ 1000.00 ng/mL, the detection limit is 6.82 ng/mL. The sensor was applied to analysis melamine in milk samples with recovery between 94.80% ~ 102.05%, and RSD bellow 12.61%. The results show that this method can meet the requirements of real sample analysis.

Facile detection of melamine by a FAM-aptamer-G-quadruplex construct. Anal Bioanal Chem 2019; 411:2521-2530. Abstract
The development of a novel method for melamine detection that uses a FAM-aptamer-G-quadruplex construct due to the efficient quenching ability of an aptamer-linked G-quadruplex is reported herein. The construct, which is labeled with the fluorescent dye 6-carboxyfluorescein (FAM), consists of two parts: a melamine-binding aptamer and a G-rich sequence that can form a G-quadruplex structure. Because of the specific recognition of melamine by the T-rich aptamer, this aptamer folds into a hairpin structure in the presence of melamine, which draws the G-quadruplex closer to the FAM fluorophore, leading to the quenching of the fluorescence of FAM. Thus, a highly sensitive and selective fluorescence strategy for assaying melamine was established. Under optimal conditions, the fluorescence quenching is proportional to the concentration of melamine within the range 10-90 nM, and the method has a detection limit of 6.32 nM. Further application of the method to plastic cup samples suggested that it permitted recoveries of between 97.15% ± 1.02 and 101.92% ± 2.07. The detected amounts of melamine spiked into the plastic cup samples and the corresponding amounts measured by HPLC were in good accordance, indicating that this fluorescent method is reliable and practical. Owing to its high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, and convenient procedure, this strategy represents a promising alternative method of melamine screening. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
We synthesized a selective molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MIP-SPE) column and established an extraction and enrichment method using this MIP-SPE column. By coupling with HPLC, we developed a new method to detect trace amounts of melamine in eggs. The MIP-SPE column was synthesized by in situ thermal-initiated polymerization using melamine as the template, methacrylic acid as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker and azodiisobutyronitrile as the initiator. HPLC was used to evaluate the identification and enrichment capability of the MIP-SPE column and for the measurement of melamine in the sample. The melamine concentration exhibited an excellent linear relationship in the range of 0.1-25.0 µg ml-1 (r = 0.9983). The identification capability of the MIP-SPE column was apparently superior to that of the non-imprinted polymer solid-phase extraction column; an average enrichment factor of 46.8-fold (RSD = 3.5%) was obtained for 0.4 µg ml-1 melamine by the MIP-SPE column. When the MIP-SPE HPLC method was applied to the detection of melamine in eggs, an average recovery rate of 93.5-102.0% (RSD = 3.6-4.9%) and a limit of detection of 0.05 µg kg-1 were obtained. This method is simple, fast and cost-effective; thus, it can greatly simplify the pre-treatment of complex samples and can be used in the detection of residual melamine in eggs and other products.

Abstract
CE has been a continuously evolving analytical methodology since its first introduction in the 1980s of the last century. The development of new CE separation procedures, the coupling of these systems to more sensitive and versatile detection systems, and the advances in miniaturization technology have allowed the application of CE to the resolution of new and complex analytical problems, overcoming the traditional disadvantages associated with this method. In the present work, different recent trends in CE and their application to the determination of high complexity samples (as biological fluids, individual cells, etc.) will be reviewed: capillary modification by different types of coatings, microfluidic CE, and online microextraction CE. The main advantages and disadvantages of the different proposed approaches will be discussed with examples of most recent applications.

Abstract
A highly selective method was presented for colorimetric determination of melamine using uracil 5'-triphosphate sodium modified gold nanoparticles (UTP-Au NPs) in this paper. Specific hydrogen-bonding interaction between uracil base (U) and melamine resulted in the aggregation of AuNPs, displaying variations of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) features such as color change from red to blue and enhanced localized surface plasmon resonance light scattering (LSPR-LS) signals. Accordingly, the concentration of melamine could be quantified based on naked eye or a spectrometric method. This method was simple, inexpensive, environmental friendly and highly selective, which has been successfully used for the detection of melamine in pretreated liquid milk products with high recoveries.
