Construction and characterization of a magnetic nanoparticle-supported Cu complex: a stable and active nanocatalyst for synthesis of heteroaryl-aryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides. Abstract
Diaryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides exist in the structure of many drugs and important biological compounds, also these compounds are well-known in medicinal chemistry due to important biological and pharmaceutical activities. Therefore, the development of novel, ecofriendly and efficient catalytic systems for the preparation of diaryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides is a very attractive and important challenge in organic synthesis. In this attractive methodology, we wish to introduce Fe3O4-supported 3-amino-4-mercaptobenzoic acid copper complex (Fe3O4@AMBA-CuI) nanomaterials as a novel and efficient magnetically recoverable catalyst for the preparation of heteroaryl-aryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides with high yields through reaction of heteroaryl halides with aryl or heteroaryl boronic acids and S8 as the sulfur source under ecofriendly conditions. This catalytic system was very efficient and practical for a diverse range of heteroaryl substrates including benzothiazole, benzoxazole, benzimidazole, oxadiazole, benzofuran, and imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine, because the desired diaryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides were prepared with high yields. The reusability-experiments revealed that the Fe3O4@AMBA-CuI nanocatalyst can be magnetically separated and reused at least six times without a significant decrease in its catalytic activity. VSM and ICP-OES analyses confirmed that despite using the Fe3O4@AMBA-CuI nanocatalyst 6 times, the magnetic properties and stability of the catalyst were still maintained. Although all the obtained heteroaryl-aryl and di-heteroaryl sulfide products are known and previously reported, the synthesis of this number of heteroaryl-aryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides has never been reported by any previouse methods.

Abstract
Organobismuth compounds have been used in various areas of science, like biology and organic synthesis, because they are normally nontoxic and exhibit unique properties. Bismuth induces metallothionein production and is known to exhibit thiophilicity. However, few reports on the reactions between bismuth and sulfur compounds exist. This article reviews studies on the reactivity of bismuth (III and V) with sulfur compounds. A simple approach for the reaction of azole-2-thiones, which contains a heterocyclic ring, with triaryl bismuthines in the presence of a copper catalyst affords the S-arylated coupling product. When a palladium catalyst is used instead of a copper catalyst, desulfinative C-C bond formation occurs. These reactions indicate that trivalent bismuth compounds can be used as novel aryl sources. Triphenylbismuth dichloride, an organobismuth (V) reagent, successfully promotes the cyclodesulfurization of thioureas within short reaction times under mild conditions. The reaction affords N-substituted benzoxazol-2-amines in excellent yields. Tafamidis, a drug used to treat transthyretin amyloidosis, can be synthesized using this reaction.

Abstract
The formation of aromatic thioethers from C-S coupling is of great importance in synthetic chemistry. Traditional solution strategies through transition-metal catalysis generally require bulk solution, heat, and longer reaction time. Herein, a mechano-promoted sulfenylation of aryl iodides with nickel catalysis is described. The active aromatic sulfide agents are in-situ generated from aromatic thiol or disulfide and subsequently adapted in the nickel catalytic cycle, with a tolerance of broad substituted groups under optimized conditions. In addition to the gram-scale synthesis that reveals the application potential of the method, the radical trapping and competitive experiments are also conducted for the mechanistic study, thus providing a plausible mechanism rationally. Furthermore, the proposed methodology is certificated as being versatile and following the green principles with ideal calculated values of green chemistry metrics, and the comparison with other approaches for C-S bond formation is also demonstrated.

Abstract
The transformation of N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles via insertion/rearrangement is achieved using 2-hydroxybenzimidazole or 2-alkoxybenzothiazole over 3 mol % Rh2(Oct)4 for the synthesis of α-((1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)amino) ketones or (Z)-2-alkoxy-2-phenylethenamines. This regio- and stereoselective reaction proceeds under mild conditions, is tolerant of functional groups, and has a broad substrate scope. Notably, while the general rhodium-catalyzed reaction involves sigmatropic rearrangement from an allyl vinyl ether, the present synthetic methodology prevents rearrangement owing to the benzimidazole group, allowing access to (Z)-olefins.

Abstract
Since its discovery 22 years ago, the bacterial cell-to-cell communication system, termed quorum sensing (QS), has shown potential as antipathogenic target. Previous studies reported that ajoene from garlic inhibits QS in opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In this study, screening of an in-house compound library revealed two sulfur-containing compounds which possess structural resemblance with ajoene and inhibit QS in bioreporter assay. Following a quantitative structure-activity relationship (SAR) study, 25 disulfide bond-containing analogues were synthesized and tested for QS inhibition activities. SAR study indicated that the allyl group could be replaced with other substituents, with the most active being benzothiazole derivative (IC50 = 0.56 μM). The compounds were able to reduce QS-regulated virulence factors (elastase, rhamnolipid, and pyocyanin) and successfully inhibit P. aeruginosa infection in murine model of implant-associated infection. Altogether, the QS inhibition activity of the synthesized compounds is encouraging for further exploration of novel analogues in antimicrobial drug development.

Abstract
A mild protocol for the synthesis of diaryl and heteroaryl sulfides is described. In a one-pot procedure, thiols are converted to sulfenyl chlorides and reacted with arylzinc reagents. This method tolerates functional groups including aryl fluorides and chlorides, ketones, as well as N-heterocycles including pyrimidines, imidazoles, tetrazoles, and oxadiazoles. Two compounds synthesized by this method exhibited selective activity against the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line in the micromolar range.

Abstract
A new efficient ligand, N,N’’-dimethyldiethylene triamine (DMDETA), has been synthesized and evaluated for sub-mol % copper-catalyzed C–N cross-coupling reactions. The efficiency of the ligand was determined by kinetic methods. DMDETA proved to display efficiency similar to DMEDA and, in addition, the resulting catalyst was tolerant to air.
