Abstract
The Lewis acid-mediated Nicholas reactions of propargyl acetate-Co2(CO)6 complexes with a series of potassium alkynyltrifluoroborates and potassium alkenyltrifluoroborates are described. Alkynyltrifluoroborates directly alkynylate the intermediate propargyldicobalt cations. In contrast, alkenyltrifluoroborates proceed through one of the three modes of dominant reactivity: C-2-substituted alkenyltrifluorobrates directly alkenylate, predominantly with the retention of stereochemistry. C-1-substituted alkenyltrifluoroborates alkenylate at C-2. Potassium vinyltrifluoroborate incorporates a cyclopropane at the site propargyl to alkynedicobalt. Computational analysis of these systems explains the differential modes of reactivity of alkenyltrifluoroborates and outlines the probable mechanisms for the formation of each product.

Abstract
Dimethylamine adducts of triallyl-, triprenyl- and trans-cinnamyl(dipropyl)borane are effective reagents for mild homoallylation of primary amines with aqueous formaldehyde in MeOH without an inert atmosphere. A new concept is proposed for the explanation of the high stability of allylborane-amine adducts in aqueous MeOH.

Abstract
The acid promoted addition of organotrifluoroborate salts to imine and enamine electrophiles is reported. Use of the pre-activated trifluoroboronate complex bypasses the need for α-hetero substitution on the electrophile component, greatly expanding the scope of the Petasis borono-Mannich reaction. A variety of vinyl, aromatic and heteroaromatic trifluoroborate salts undergo addition with good efficiency under mild reaction conditions. The reaction is amenable for use with a variety of carbamate protected imine and enamine electrophiles, achieving for the first time the effective coupling with aliphatic aldehydes.

Abstract
The synthesis of (diarylmethyl)sulfonamides and related compounds by a new manganese-mediated, cobalt-catalyzed three-component reaction between sulfonamides, carbonyl compounds and organic bromides is described. This organometallic Mannich-like process allows the formation of the coupling products within minutes at room temperature. A possible mechanism, emphasizing the crucial role of manganese is proposed.

Abstract
We have developed a copper-catalyzed process for the coupling of aldehydes, amines, and boronic acids. This allows greater reactivity with simple aryl boronic acids and allows coupling reactions to proceed that previously failed. Initial mechanistic studies support a process involving transmetalation from boron to copper.

Abstract
Mild reaction conditions for Petasis reactions of substituted salicylaldehydes with various amines and arylboronic acids in the presence of molecular sieves were developed. Molecular sieves (MS) significantly accelerated the reaction rates and drove the reactions to high conversions. The conditions were applied to the synthesis of the core structure of BIIB042, a γ-secretase modulator, without stereochemical erosion of a stereogenic center in the salicylaldehyde intermediate.

Abstract
Complete (1)H, (13)C, (19)F and (11)B NMR spectral data for 28 potassium organotrifluoroborates are described. Abstract
Herein we report the conversion of aldehyde-containing potassium and tetrabutylammonium organotrifluoroborates to the corresponding amines through reductive amination protocols. Potassium formate facilitated by catalytic palladium acetate, sodium triacetoxyborohydride, and pyridine borane have all served as effective hydride donors, reducing the initially formed imines or iminium ions to provide the corresponding amines.

Abstract
A series of potassium organotrifluoroborates were synthesized. Their stability to hydrolysis was determined in D2O, TRIS and phosphate buffer. It was found that in both D2O and TRIS buffers, these compounds are quite stable, whereas in phosphate buffer rapid hydrolysis occurs. Based on these results, a study was undertaken to determine whether potassium organotrifluoroborates can serve as protease inhibitors. It was found that potassium organotrifluoroborates increased inhibition by at least an order of magnitude over the corresponding boronates. Dixon plots showed that these compounds are reversible competitive inhibitors of alpha-chymotrypsin and trypsin. Based on 19F NMR, we speculate that they inactivate the enzymes as a result of the formation of hydrogen-bonds between fluorine atoms of the inhibitors and the serine protease.
