Abstract
The dolabellane-type diterpene dictyoxetane represents a significant challenge to synthetic organic chemistry. Methodology directed towards the total synthesis of naturally occurring (+)-dictyoxetane is reported. Catalytic asymmetric synthesis of the trans-hydrindane ring system is achieved through chemoselective deoxygenation of the Hajos-Parrish ketone. An alternative to the Garst-Spencer furan annulation is developed for the synthesis of a 2,5-dimethyl, tetrasubstituted furan, employing a tandem 5-exo-dig alcohol to alkyne cyclisation/aromatisation reaction as a key step. The (4+3) cycloaddition reaction of an oxyallyl cation with a tetrasubstituted furan is established on a cyclohexanone-derived model system, and a range of related (4+3) cycloadditions investigated on a homochiral, trans-hydrindane-fused furan, where regio- and diastereoselectivity is required for the natural product synthesis. In an alternative (4+2) Diels-Alder approach, a C2 -symmetric vinyl sulfoxide-based chiral ketene equivalent is used to prepare oxanorbornenes with the same oxygen bridge stereochemistry found in the 2,7-dioxatricyclo[4.2.1.03,8 ]nonane ring system of the natural product.

Abstract
The 1,4-conjugate addition reaction between activated alkynes or acetylenic Michael acceptors and nucleophiles (i.e., the nucleophilic Michael reaction) is a historically useful organic transformation. Despite its general utility, the efficiency and outcomes can vary widely and are often closely dependent upon specific reaction conditions. Nevertheless, with improvements in reaction design, including catalyst development and an expansion of the substrate scope to feature more electrophilic alkynes, many examples now present with features that are congruent with Click chemistry. Although several nucleophilic species can participate in these conjugate additions, ubiquitous nucleophiles such as thiols, amines, and alcohols are commonly employed and, consequently, among the most well developed. For many years, these conjugate additions were largely relegated to organic chemistry, but in the last few decades their use has expanded into other spheres such as bioorganic chemistry and polymer chemistry. Within these fields, they have been particularly useful for bioconjugation reactions and step-growth polymerizations, respectively, due to their excellent efficiency, orthogonality, and ambient reactivity. The reaction is expected to feature in increasingly divergent application settings as it continues to emerge as a Click reaction.

Abstract
The efficient catalysis of oxidative alkylation and fluoroalkylation of aromatic C-H bonds is of paramount importance in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries, and requires the development of convenient Ag0-based nano-architectures with high catalytic activity and recyclability. We prepared Ag-doped silica nanoparticles (Ag0/+@SiO2) with a specific nano-architecture, where ultra-small sized silver cores are immersed in silica spheres, 40 nm in size. The nano-architecture provides an efficient electrochemical oxidation of Ag+@SiO2 without any external oxidant. In turn, Ag+@SiO2 5 mol% results in 100% conversion of arenes into their alkylated and fluoroalkylated derivatives in a single step at room temperature under nanoheterogeneous electrochemical conditions. Negligible oxidative leaching of silver from Ag0/+@SiO2 is recorded during the catalytic coupling of arenes with acetic, difluoroacetic and trifluoroacetic acids, which enables the good recyclability of the catalytic function of the Ag0/+@SiO2 nanostructure. The catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused a minimum of five times upon electrochemical regeneration. The use of the developed Ag0@SiO2 nano-architecture as a heterogeneous catalyst facilitates aromatic C-H bond substitution by alkyl and fluoroalkyl groups, which are privileged structural motifs in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.

Abstract
Silver and gold have become incredibly versatile and mild catalysts for numerous transformations, especially in heterocycle synthesis. For the most prominent of them, i.e. furans, silver and gold, with their unique reactivity and mildness, allow numerous possible routes to highly substituted and/or functionalized furans from a large variety of starting materials. Silver and gold catalysis provide thus the most flexible way to this important family of compounds. The present review describes these silver and gold-catalyzed routes, with some emphasis on mechanistic aspects, and proposes a comparison of both the silver and the gold-catalyzed syntheses of furans.

Abstract
A series of conjugated-chain compounds which contain two furan units and more than three other aromatic ring units were synthesized by two different methods, their UV-visible absorption coefficient (ε), maximum absorption wavelengths (λa), fluorescence emission wavelengths (λe), stokes shift and quantum yields (Φ) were determined, the relationships between the molecular structures and the effects of spectral behaviors were discussed. Meanwhile, the excitation spectrum and emission spectrum of 2b and 2d in solid and in ethyl acetate were respectively recorded, the thermal stability of 2b and 2d was evaluated, and the fluorescence emission behaviors of two light emitting diodes, fabricated with 2b and 2d as phosphors, were investigated. The results showed that most of target compounds can perform high fluorescence emission ability, compounds 2b and 2d can perform higher thermal stability under 350°C and they are suitable for making light emitting diode as phosphors, the light emitting diodes fabricated with 2b and 2d can show higher fluorescence emission ability. Therefore, those compounds are worthy of further being developed as fluorescent emission materials.

Abstract
A versatile method for the diversified synthesis of furans and arenofurans has been developed that proceeds through K2CO3-promoted cyclization between enols/1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and nitroolefins at reflux in EtOH. This facile method has been successfully employed in the synthesis of benzotrifuran derivatives, which are useful hole-transporting materials. This procedure also provides direct access to dioxa[5]helicenes. This reaction offers a broad substrate scope, uses an inexpensive base and environmentally benign solvent, and is operationally simple.

Abstract
Silver is a less expensive noble metal. Superior alkynophilicity due to π-coordination with the carbon-carbon triple bond makes silver salts ideal catalysts for alkyne-based organic reactions. This review highlights the progress in alkyne chemistry via silver catalysis primarily over the past five years (ca. 2010-2014). The discussion is developed in terms of the bond type formed with the acetylenic carbon (i.e., C-C, C-N, C-O, C-Halo, C-P and C-B). Compared with other coinage metals such as Au and Cu, silver catalysis is frequently observed to be unique. This critical review clearly indicates that silver catalysis provides a significant impetus to the rapid evolution of alkyne-based organic reactions, such as alkynylation, hydrofunctionalization, cycloaddition, cycloisomerization, and cascade reactions.

Abstract
α-Keto acid of pefloxacin mesylate (PFLX) can form the complex with Terbium(III). The intramolecular energy from PFLX to Terbium(III) ion takes place when excited, and thus Terbium(III) excited state is formed and then emits the characteristic fluorescence of Terbium(III), locating at 490, 545, 580, and 620 nm. The second-order scattering (SOS) peak at 545 nm also appears for the complex with the exciting wavelength of 273 nm. When the silver nanoparticles are added to the system, the luminescence intensity at 545 nm greatly increased. So, with the adding of nanoparticles to the Terbium(III)-PFLX complex, not only is the intramolecular energy promoted but also the SOS intensity is enhanced. The experimental results show that it is the silver nanoparticles with certain size and certain concentration which can greatly enhance the fluorescence-SOS intensity, and the relative intensity at 545 nm is proportional to the amount of PFLX. Based on this phenomenon, a novel method for the determination of PFLX has been developed and applied to the determination of PFLX in capsule and serum samples.
