Abstract
The excellent π-accepting azodicarboxylic esters adcOR (R = Et, iPr, tBu, Bn (CH2-C6H5) and Ph) and the piperidinyl amide derivative adcpip were used as bridging chelate ligands in dinuclear Re(CO)3 complexes [{Re(CO)3Cl}2(µ-adcOR)] and [{Re(CO)3Cl}2(µ-adcpip)]. From the adcpip ligand the mononuclear derivatives [Re(CO)3Cl(adcpip)] and [Re(CO)3(PPh3)(µ-adcpip)]Cl were also obtained. Optimised geometries from density functional theory (DFT) calculations show syn and anti isomers for the dinuclear fac-Re(CO)3 complexes at slightly different energies but they were not distinguishable from experimental IR or UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The electrochemistry of the adc complexes showed reduction potentials slightly below 0.0 V vs. the ferrocene/ferrocenium couple. Attempts to generate the radicals [{Re(CO)3Cl}2(µ-adcOR)]•- failed as they are inherently unstable, losing very probably first the Cl- coligand and then rapidly cleaving one [Re(CO)3] fragment. Consequently, we found signals in EPR very probably due to mononuclear radical complexes [Re(CO)3(solv)(adc)]•. The underlying Cl-→solvent exchange was modelled for the mononuclear [Re(CO)3Cl(adcpip)] using DFT calculations and showed a markedly enhanced Re-Cl labilisation for the reduced compared with the neutral complex. Both the easy reduction with potentials ranging roughly from -0.2 to -0.1 V for the adc ligands and the low-energy NIR absorptions in the 700 to 850 nm range place the adc ligands with their lowest-lying π* orbital being localised on the azo function, amongst comparable bridging chelate N^N coordinating ligands with low-lying π* orbitals of central azo, tetrazine or pyrazine functions. Comparative (TD)DFT-calculations on the Re(CO)3Cl complexes of the adcpip ligand using the quite established basis set and functionals M06-2X/def2TZVP/LANL2DZ/CPCM(THF) and the more advanced TPSSh/def2-TZVP(+def2-ECP for Re)/CPCMC(THF) for single-point calculations with BP86/def2-TZVP(+def2-ECP for Re)/CPCMC(THF) optimised geometries showed a markedly better agreement of the latter with the experimental XRD, IR and UV-Vis absorption data.

Abstract
The 2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromene motif is widely found in many bioactive molecules, and is a privileged structure in the pharmaceutical arena. We have developed a concise and regioselective approach to chromenes and chromanes through an aryne-based synthetic strategy. A practical, gram-scale synthetic route to a chromene-type aryne precursor was explored. Subsequently, cyclization under mild conditions afforded tetracyclic xanthone skeletons with excellent regioselectivity. Our approach provides a concise strategy for the gram-scale synthesis of chromene-type xanthones such as 6-deoxyisojacareubin, cylindroxanthone D, staudtiixanthone D, brasilixanthone A and cudracuspixanthone O.

Abstract
The concept of green chemistry began in the USA in the 1990s. Since the publication of the 12 principles of this concept, many reactions in organic chemistry have been developed, and chemical products have been synthesized under environmentally friendly conditions. Lewis acid mediated synthetic transformations are by far the most numerous and best studied. However, the use of certain Lewis acids may cause risks to environmental and human health. This Review discusses the evolution of Lewis acid catalyzed reactions from a homogeneous liquid phase to the solid phase to yield the expected organic molecules under green, safe conditions. In particular, recent developments and applications of biosourced catalysts from plants are highlighted.

Abstract
Protocols for the synthesis of substituted 2H-chromenes from α,β-unsaturated carbonyls and phenols are described. Optimal combinations of arylboronic acids and Brønsted acids have been identified, such that both can be employed in catalytic quantities to accelerate these condensations. The method has been used to synthesize a variety of substituted 2H-chromenes, as well as photochromic naphthopyrans. The use of pentafluorophenylboronic acid and diphenylphosphinic acid enabled an expansion of the electrophile scope to include α,β-unsaturated ketones. Hall's 'phase-switching' of boronic acids has been exploited to achieve the separation of the two co-catalysts from unpurified reaction mixtures by a simple liquid-liquid extraction.

Abstract
Direct transformation of carbon-hydrogen bond (C-H) has emerged to be a trend for construction of molecules from building blocks with no or less prefunctionalization, leading high atom and step economy. Directing group (DG) strategy is widely used to achieve higher reactivity and selectivity, but additional steps are usually needed for installation and/or cleavage of DGs, limiting step economy of the overall transformation. To meet this challenge, we proposed a concept of automatic DG (DGauto ), which is auto-installed and/or auto-cleavable. Multifunctional oxime and hydrazone DGauto were designed for C-H activation and alkyne annulation to furnish diverse nitrogen-containing heterocycles. Imidazole was employed as an intrinsic DG (DGin ) to synthesize ring-fused and π-extended functional molecules. The alkyne group in the substrates can also be served as DGin for ortho-C-H activation to afford carbocycles. In this account, we intend to give a review of our progress in this area and brief introduction of other related advances on C-H functionalization using DGauto or DGin strategies.

Abstract
A series of alkoxy-substituted 2H-chromenes were synthesized by a one-pot three-component reaction using salicylaldehydes, acetyl acetone and alcohol as reactant and medium with tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride (TBAF) as catalyst. Simple reaction conditions, short reaction time and overall good yield of products make this synthetic strategy an efficient one to synthesize 2H-chromene molecules. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for antioxidant activities. Among all the new compounds, 5j and 5k showed good inhibition [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]) at 100 [Formula: see text] concentrations.

Abstract
A direct, general and efficient method to synthesize 2H-chromenes (2H-benzo[b]pyrans), identified as environmentally friendly pesticides, has been developed. This approach lays on the new concept of ecocatalysis, which involves the use of biomass from phytoextraction processes, as a valuable source of metallic elements for chemical synthesis. This methodology is similar or superior to known methods, affording 2H-chromenes with good to excellent yields (60-98%), including the preparation of precocene I, a natural insect growth regulator, with 91% yield. The approach is ideal for poor reactive substrates such as phenol or naphthol, classically transformed into 2H-chromenes by methodologies associated with environmental issues. These results illustrate the interest of combining phytoextraction and green synthesis of natural insecticides.
