Abstract
For high-value-added application of osthole derivatives as a pesticide candidate in crop protection, by the use of osthole as a lead compound, a series of novel acrylate derivatives of isopropenyl 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans were prepared by the successive bromination, rearrangement, and esterization reactions. Three-dimensional structures of four compounds were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The possible mechanism for construction of this new isopropenyl 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran skeleton from the osthole was presented. Against Plutella xylostella Linnaeus, compound 32 (R = PhCH2CH2) displayed 3.5-fold potent insecticidal activity of osthole. Against Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisduval, compound 40 (LC50: 0.165 mg/mL; R = (CH2)13CH3) showed 8.3-fold pronounced acaricidal activity of osthole (LC50: 1.367 mg/mL); notably, its control effect can be comparable to that of the commercial acaricide spirodiclofen. Additionally, the scanning electron microscopy imaging method demonstrated that compound 40 can destroy the stratum corneum of T. cinnabarinus. Compound 40 can be further explored as a lead acaricidal agent.

Abstract
In the presence of a copper catalyst, a series of oximes undergo deconstructive insertion into coumarins to afford structurally interesting dihydrobenzofuran-fused pyridones in moderate to good yields with good functional group compatibility. The reaction likely involves a radical relay annulation, leading to the ring opening of the lactone moiety of the coumarins, and simultaneous formation of three new bonds. The investigation of photoluminescent properties reveals that several obtained compounds may have potential as fluorescent materials.

Abstract
A modular tandem synthesis of 2-carboxybenzofurans from 2-gem-dibromovinylphenols has been established based on a sequence of Cu-catalyzed intramolecular C-O coupling and Mo(CO)6-mediated intermolecular carbonylation reactions. This protocol allowed one-step access to a broad variety of functionalized benzofuran-2-carboxylic acids, esters, and amides in good to excellent yields under Pd- and CO gas-free conditions.

Abstract
An efficient magnetic sorbent consisting of benzofuran-2-carboxylic acid-loaded magnetic nanocomposite was successfully synthesised for pre-concentration of patulin from apple juice. The prepared magnetic nanocomposite was characterised by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Determination of enriched patulin was performed by high-performance liquid chromatography. The best adsorption conditions were 40 mg of sorbent, 50 ml of apple juice sample, pH 5, ambient temperature and 25 min; the elution conditions were 500 μl methanol, pH 5, ambient temperature, and 4 min. Under optimised conditions, pre-concentration factor was 100, linearity range was 1-400 μg l-1 of patulin, limit of detection was 0.15 μg l-1 and limit of quantification was 0.5 μg l-1. When samples were determined 20 times, the recovery was 93.9-102.6% and the relative standard deviation was below 5.3%. In terms of proposed procedure, the developed method was successfully applied for patulin detection in apple juice samples.

Abstract
Bromination is one of the most important transformations in organic synthesis and can be carried out using bromine and many other bromo compounds. Use of molecular bromine in organic synthesis is well-known. However, due to the hazardous nature of bromine, enormous growth has been witnessed in the past several decades for the development of solid bromine carriers. This review outlines the use of bromine and different bromo-organic compounds in organic synthesis. The applications of bromine, a total of 107 bromo-organic compounds, 11 other brominating agents, and a few natural bromine sources were incorporated. The scope of these reagents for various organic transformations such as bromination, cohalogenation, oxidation, cyclization, ring-opening reactions, substitution, rearrangement, hydrolysis, catalysis, etc. has been described briefly to highlight important aspects of the bromo-organic compounds in organic synthesis.

Abstract
Novel benzofuran-2-carboxamide ligands, which are selective for sigma receptors, have been synthesized via a microwave-assisted Perkin rearrangement reaction and a modified Finkelstein halogen-exchange used to facilitate N-alkylation. The ligands synthesized are the 3-methyl-N-phenyl-N-(3-(piperidin-1-yl)propyl)benzofuran-2-carboxamides (KSCM-1, KSCM-5 and KSCM-11). The benzofuran-2-carboxamide structure was N-arylated and N-alkylated to include both N-phenyl and N-(3-(piperidin-1-yl)propyl substituents, respectively. These new carboxamides exhibit high affinity at the sigma-1 receptor with K(i) values ranging from 7.8 to 34nM. Ligand KSCM-1 with two methoxy substituents at C-5 and C-6 of the benzofuran ring, and K(i)=27.5nM at sigma-1 was found to be more selective for sigma-1 over sigma-2.
