Abstract
Background Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare disease that presents as a malignant tumor on the peritoneal surface. Cytoreductive surgery combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy is the standard treatment for this disease and frequently requires a red blood cell transfusion. However, due to the limited collection and supply of allogeneic blood, surgical treatment may be delayed due to inadequate preparation of allogeneic blood in the course of clinical treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of transfusion of stored autologous blood in patients with low-grade pseudomyxoma peritonei. Methods Pseudomyxoma peritonei patients who received cytoreductive surgery combined with heat-infused peritoneal chemotherapy were divided into two groups: transfusion of allogeneic blood and transfusion of stored autologous blood. A comparison of the differences in multiple factors between the two groups was performed, including tumor recurrence, survival time, hemoglobin and hematocrit levels, coagulation function (prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, and fibrinogen), total hospital stay duration, and incidence of serious adverse events after surgery. Results Propensity scores matching analysis yielded 34 patients with allogeneic blood transfusion and 34 patients with stored autologous blood transfusion. Comparison analysis did not show statistical differences in several factors, including age, tumor grade, tumor recurrence rate after surgery, etc., between the two groups. The cytoreductive degree was considered an independent risk factor for tumor recurrence. The pseudomyxoma peritonei patients in the autologous transfusion group had a higher 5-year survival rate and a longer survival time. Moreover, transfusion of stored autologous blood did not increase the rate of tumor recurrence, or the total hospital stay duration after surgery, the hemoglobin level and coagulation function were well stabilized within 24 h after surgery, and there was a low incidence of serious adverse events. Conclusion The clinical application of transfusion of stored autologous blood in pseudomyxoma peritonei patients is safe and effective.

Effects of Pre-Donated Autologous Blood Transfusion on Peri-Operative Hemoglobin Concentration and Mid-Term Health Outcomes in Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty. J Clin Med 2022; 11:jcm11082252. Abstract
The effects of auto-BT in primary TKA on the perioperative hemoglobin (Hb) concentration and mid-term health outcomes are unknown. This study was performed to analyze the detailed changes in the perioperative Hb concentration before and after the operation (days 0–14 postoperatively), cardiovascular events, and mortality rate within 1 and 5 years postoperatively. One hundred patients undergoing primary TKA with auto-BT using 800 mL of preoperatively collected blood at the authors’ institution were included. The mean Hb concentration before and after autologous blood collection was 12.7 ± 1.1 and 11.7 ± 1.2 g/dL, respectively. After primary TKA with auto-BT, the mean Hb concentration on day 0, 1, 3, 7, and 14 was 10.2 ± 1.2, 9.9 ± 1.2, 10.4 ± 1.3, 10.5 ± 1.3, and 11.0 ± 1.3 g/dL, respectively. Only one (1%) patient required additional allogenic blood transfusion. No patients developed cardiovascular events, and the 1- and 5-year postoperative mortality rate was 1.0% and 2.0%, respectively. Primary TKA with auto-BT showed relatively small perioperative changes in the Hb concentration, a low incidence of cardiovascular events, and a low mortality rate within 1 and 5 years postoperatively. These findings suggest that auto-BT, in which blood is preoperatively collected, is beneficial for patient safety and health, even if its cost-effectiveness may be debatable.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the literature to determine whether autohemotherapy has any effect either clinically or on the immune system on viral diseases on the last ten years. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review. METHODS Searches from the year 2010, with at least 5 patients were conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, LILACS, SciELO, and Web of Science databases. Hand searches were performed in systematic reviews and literature reviews related to autohemotherapy. Unpublished manuscripts were hand-searched in specialized journals. RESULTS Eight articles were included. Hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and Coronavirus were evaluated. Autohemotherapy had good results in hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and Coronavirus. CONCLUSION Autohemotherapy is a safe practice that improves symptoms in the treatment of hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and Coronavirus. It is necessary to perform more prospective comparative studies with homogeneous protocols.

Abstract
Background Simultaneous bilateral distal tibial tubercle high tibial osteotomy (SBDTT-HTO) can result in increased blood loss. The aim of this study is to evaluate the actual hemostatic effect of different tranexamic acid (TXA) treatment regimen in SBDTT-HTO. Methods We conducted a retrospective case–control study including 54 patients who underwent SBDTT-HTO. The single-dose group (n = 18) received 1 g of intravenous TXA 15–30 min before surgery, the two-dose group (n = 18) received an additional 1 g of intravenous TXA 6 h after surgery, and the multiple-dose group (n = 18) received an additional 1 g intravenous TXA per-day until discharge. Blood loss, hemoglobin levels, occurrence of any adverse events,functional analysis, quality of life, and pain assessmentswere compared among the three groups. Results The total blood loss, hidden blood loss, drainage volumes, and haemoglobin level in the multiple-dose group all occupy a significant advantage.(p < 0.05). In addition, better quality of life were observed in patients belonging to the multiple-dose group then single-dose group.(p < 0.05). Conclusions Based on our results, for patients undergoing SBDTT-HTO, sequential intravenous TXA administration can effectively and safely reduce blood loss,maintain postoperative Hb levels,and with the advantage of accelerating recovery.

Abstract
Perioperative autologous cell salvage (PACS) is one of the effective strategies in patient blood management (PBM). However, mistransfusion, in which the wrong blood is transfused to the wrong patient, of PACS units has been reported. In this study, we implemented a bar code-based electronic identification system (EIS) for blood transfusion in the setting of PACS transfusion. Between February 2009 and December 2020, a total of 12341 surgical patients (9% of whom received surgical interventions) received blood transfusion, among whom 6595 (54 %) received autologous blood transfusion alone, 2877 (23 %) both autologous and allogeneic blood transfusions, and 2869 (23 %) allogeneic blood transfusion alone. Among autologous blood conservation techniques, PACS units were transfused to 7873 patients (83 %) without a single mistransfusion. Rates of overall compliance with the electronic pre-transfusion check at the bedside for all autologous units and PACS units were 98.8 and 98.5 %, respectively. Our observations suggest that a bar code-based EIS can be successfully applied to PACS transfusion, as well as allogeneic blood transfusion in operating rooms.

Abstract
It is difficult to predict RBC consumption accurately. This paper aims to use big data to establish a XGBoost Model to understand the trend of RBC accurately, and forecast the demand in time. XGBoost, which implements machine learning algorithms under the Gradient Boosting framework can provide a parallel tree boosting. The daily RBC usage and inventory (May 2014-September 2017) were investigated, and rules for RBC usage were analysed. All data were divided into training sets and testing sets. A XGBoost Model was established to predict the future RBC demand for durations ranging from a day to a week. In addition, the alert range was added to the predicted value to ensure RBC demand of emergency patients and surgical accidents. The gap between RBC usage and inventory was fluctuant, and had no obvious rule. The maximum residual inventory of a certain blood group was up to 700 units one day, while the minimum was nearly 0 units. Upon comparing MAE (mean absolute error):A:10.69, B:11.19, O:10.93, and AB:5.91, respectively, the XGBoost Model was found to have a predictive advantage over other state-of-the-art approaches. It showed the model could fit the trend of daily RBC usage. An alert range could manage the demand of emergency patients or surgical accidents. The model had been built to predict RBC demand, and the alert range of RBC inventory is designed to increase the safety of inventory management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pre-operative autologous blood donation (PABD) is one of the most widely distributed autologous blood donation means, which has positive effect on erythropoiesis. However, whether PABD can stimulate the bone marrow hematopoiesis after hepatectomy have not been reported. METHODS Totally 80 New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups that included control group, surgery group, hemodilutional autotransfusion (HA) group and PABD group. Automatic reticulocyte examination was performed to detect the content of reticulocyte and immature reticulocyte fractions (IRF). Flow cytometric analysis was employed to monitor the level of CD34+ cells and the cell cycle status. Southern blotting was conducted to determine the telomere length of CD34+ cells. RESULTS The content of high fluorescence reticulocytes (HFR) and IRF was decreased at 6 h and 24 h after autotransfusion. However, the level of CD34+ cells was upregulated after PABD. Cell cycle status analysis revealed that majority of the CD34+ cells in HA and PABD group were maintained in G0/G1 phase. The telomere length in HA and PABD group was shorten than that of control group and surgery group. CONCLUSION PABD could promote the bone marrow hematopoietic functions in rabbits after hepatectomy via stimulating proliferation of CD34+ cells and shortening the telomere length of CD34+ cells, but the content of HFR was not increased immediately because of the stuck of CD34+ cells in G0/G1 phase.
