Abstract
The ever-increasing expansion of chemical industries produces a variety of common pollutants, including colors, which become a global and environmental problem. Using a nanocatalyst is one of the effective ways to reduce these organic contaminants. With this in mind, a straightforward and effective method for the production of a novel nanocatalyst based on lignin-derived carbon, titanium dioxide nanoparticles, and Ag particles (TiO2/C/Ag) is described. The preparation of carbon and Ag particles (in sub-micro and nano size) was carried out by laser ablation in air. The nanocomposite was synthesized using a facile magnetic stirrer of TiO2, C, and Ag. According to characterization methods, a carbon nanostructure was successfully synthesized through the laser irradiation of lignin. According to scanning electron microscope images, spherical Ag particles were agglomerated over the nanocomposite. The catalytic activities of the TiO2/C/Ag nanocomposite were tested for the decolorization of methylene blue (MB) and Congo red (CR), employing NaBH4 in a water-based solution at 25 °C. After adding fresh NaBH4 to the mixture of nanocomposite and dyes, both UV absorption peaks of MB and CR completely disappeared after 10 s and 4 min, respectively. The catalytic activity of the TiO2/C/Ag nanocomposite was also examined for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) using a NaBH4 reducing agent, suggesting the complete reduction of 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) after 2.30 min. This shows excellent catalytic behavior of the prepared nanocomposite in the reduction of organic pollutants.

Abstract
Contamination of groundwater with chlorinated hydrocarbons has serious adverse effects on human health. As research efforts in this area have expanded, a large body of literature has accumulated. However, traditional review writing suffers from limitations regarding efficiency, quantity, and timeliness, making it difficult to achieve a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of developments in the field. There is a critical need for new tools to address emerging research challenges. This study evaluated 1619 publications related to this field using VOSviewer and CiteSpace visual tools. An extensive quantitative analysis and global overview of current research hotspots, as well as potential future research directions, were performed by reviewing publications from 2000 to 2022. Over the last 22 years, the USA has produced the most articles, making it the central country in the international collaboration network, with active cooperation with the other 7 most productive countries. Additionally, institutions have played a positive role in promoting the publication of science and technology research. In analyzing the distribution of institutions, it was found that the University of Waterloo conducted the majority of research in this field. This paper also identified the most productive journals, Environmental Science & Technology and Applied and Environmental Microbiology, which published 11,988 and 3253 scientific articles over the past 22 years, respectively. The main technologies are bioremediation and chemical reduction, which have garnered growing attention in academic publishing. Our findings offer a useful resource and a worldwide perspective for scientists engaged in this field, highlighting both the challenges and the possibilities associated with addressing groundwater chlorinated solvent plumes remediation.

Abstract
Nano-metals, nano-metal oxides, and carbon-based nanomaterials exhibit superior solar-to-chemical/photo-electron transfer properties and are potential candidates for environmental remediations and energy transfer. Recent research effort focuses on enhancing the efficiency of photoinduced electron-hole separation to improve energy transfer in catalytic reactions. Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy has been used to monitor the generation of electron/hole and reactive oxygen species (ROS) during nanomaterial-mediated photocatalysis. Using ESR coupled with spin trapping and spin labeling techniques, the underlying photocatalytic mechanism involved in the nanomaterial-mediated photocatalysis was investigated. In this review, we briefly introduced ESR principle and summarized recent advancements using ESR spectroscopy to characterize electron-hole separation and ROS production by different types of nanomaterials.

Abstract
Chlorotoluene rectification residual liquid (CRRL) from chlorotolune industry is hard to dispose of because of its high chlorine concentration, which poses high dioxin risk once it is subjected to incinerate. This research employed a chemical approach by using Williamson ether synthesis (WES) method for CRRL dechlorination. It shows that the sodium dosage, the ethanol dosage, and the ultrasonic time are the key factors in chlorine removal. The highest removal rate of chlorine was observed when the sodium dosage, the ethanol dosage, and the ultrasonic time were 0.35 g mL-1, 0.8 mL mL-1, and 15 min, respectively. The further optimization tests indicate that the highest chlorine removal efficiency of 39.06% was observed when the ultrasonic time was 15 min, the sodium dosage and the ethanol dosage were 0.5 g mL-1 and 1.1 mL mL-1, respectively. It suggests a feasible chlorine removal process for organic hazardous waste with high chlorine content before incineration.

Solar-light photocatalytic disinfection using crystalline/amorphous low energy bandgap reduced TiO2. Sci Rep 2016; 6:25212. [PMID: 27121120 PMCID: PMC4848476 DOI: 10.1038/srep25212] [Citation(s) in RCA: 36] [Impact Index Per Article: 4.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/02/2016] [Accepted: 04/08/2016] [Indexed: 11/17/2022] Open
Abstract
A generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from TiO2 under solar light has been long sought since the ROS can disinfect organic pollutants. We found that newly developed crystalline/amorphous reduced TiO2 (rTiO2) that has low energy bandgap can effectively generate ROS under solar light and successfully remove a bloom of algae. The preparation of rTiO2 is a one-pot and mass productive solution-process reduction using lithium-ethylene diamine (Li-EDA) at room temperature. Interestingly only the rutile phase of TiO2 crystal was reduced, while the anatase phase even in case of both anatase/rutile phased TiO2 was not reduced. Only reduced TiO2 materials can generate ROS under solar light, which was confirmed by electron spin resonance. Among the three different types of Li-EDA treated TiO2 (anatase, rutile and both phased TiO2), the both phased rTiO2 showed the best performance to produce ROS. The generated ROS effectively removed the common green algae Chlamydomonas. This is the first report on algae degradation under solar light, proving the feasibility of commercially available products for disinfection.
