Abstract
This systematic review analyzed the effect of selected nutrients and additives in the feed of pregnant sows on the survival of newborn piglets. We analyzed 720 peer-reviewed publications in English in PubMed® and Web of Science®, dated July 2023 to January 2024, related to the effect of dietary supplementation with fatty acids and various percentages of protein, amino acids, and/or sources of dietary fiber on the offspring of gestating sows. While several papers evaluated the effect of nutrition on gestating sows, only a few delved into the distinct feeding strategies required at each stage of gestation to meet the NRC's nutritional requirements for maternal tissue gain and postnatal neonatal survival and growth. This body of research suggests that as gestation progresses the sow's nutritional requirements increase, as the NRC established, to satisfy their own metabolic needs and those of their fetuses. Additional research is needed to determine an optimal feeding strategy.

Abstract
Gestating sows are often fed a single diet throughout their gestation cycle, leading to situations of nutrients deficiency or excess at the individual level. The purpose of this study was to characterize, over 3 consecutive cycles, the impact of a precision feeding (PF), i.e., dietary supplies adjusted at individual level in terms of quantity (energy intake) and quality (standardized ileal digestible (SID) lysine (Lys) intake), on gestating sows' productive performance, feeding behavior, environmental outputs, and health status compared with sows fed a conventional feeding (CF, i.e., fixed SID Lys intake). At the start of the trial, 2 batches of 20 Landrace × Large White gestating sows were allocated to one of the 2 feeding strategies (PF vs. CF), based on their parity (1, 2, or 3 and more), body weight, and backfat thickness (BT) 3 days after insemination. The PF strategy consisted in mixing with automatic feeders 2 iso-energetic diets (9.8 MJ/kg of net energy with 3.3 and 8.5 g SID Lys/kg, respectively) in variable proportions at individual and daily levels, whereas for the CF strategy these proportions remained constant throughout gestation (73% and 27%, respectively, resulting in an SID Lys concentration of 4.7 g/kg). Sows were followed over 3 consecutive gestations and the sows remained allocated to the same strategy throughout the study. Some sows were culled before the end of the study and were replaced by other sows who therefore performed only 1 or 2 gestations during the study. Thus, 106 gestations and lactations from 51 sows were fully studied and their data analyzed. The PF strategy allowed the sows to reach more closely the expected BT values at farrowing across cycles than the CF strategy (P < 0.001). The PF sows consumed 16% less SID Lys per gestation than the CF sows (P < 0.001), resulting in a 4% improvement in N efficiency (P < 0.001), with no impact on performance at farrowing (P > 0.10). The sows consumed their daily ration in a single visit whatever the feeding strategy (P = 0.41), but CF sows spent more time in the feeder in cycles 2 and 3 (P < 0.001). Thus, compared to the CF strategy implemented by farmers, the individual and daily nutritional supplies implemented with the PF strategy were more efficient in enabling sows to achieve body condition objectives at farrowing over the long term, also with a reduced SID Lys intake and an improved N efficiency without negative impact on farrowing performances.

Abstract
Overnutrition or undernutrition during all or part of the reproductive cycle predisposes sows to metabolic consequences and poor reproductive health which contributes to a decrease in sow longevity and an increase in perinatal mortality. This represents not only an economic problem for the pig industry but also results in poor animal welfare. To maximise profitability and increase sustainability in pig production, it is pivotal to provide researchers and practitioners with synthesised information about the repercussions of maternal obesity or malnutrition on reproductive health and perinatal outcomes, and to pinpoint currently available nutritional managements to keep sows' body condition in an optimal range. Thus, the present review summarises recent work on the consequences of maternal malnutrition and highlights new findings.

Abstract
Modern hyper-prolific sows produce large litters with a high within-litter variation in birth weight and an increased number of low-birth-weight piglets per litter with higher mortality rates and lower growth rates compared to heavier littermates. This study aimed to describe fetal development in hyper-prolific sows, to characterize differences between large and small fetuses, and to determine when within-litter variation in fetal weight can be detected. Forty-seven multiparous sows were blood-sampled and slaughtered at day 28, 33, 45, 50, and 56 of gestation. Number of fetuses were counted, fetal body and organ weights were measured, and the intrauterine positioning was recorded. Length, width, and area of each placenta was measured and the fetus weight/placental weight ratio was calculated. The umbilical cords of the smallest, medium and the largest fetus of each litter were sampled for histological analysis. In total measurements were obtained for 1161 fetuses. The results revealed no difference in fetal survival between the gestational days (P > 0.05). Intrauterine positioning near the cervix significantly reduced fetal weight at day 56 (P < 0.05). Total litter weight and average fetal weight increased with gestational age and individual fetal weight was negatively affected by litter size from day 33 and onwards (P < 0.05). The coefficient of variation for within-litter variation in fetal weight was higher at day 28 compared to the other gestational days (P < 0.05). Relative brain- and heart weights decreased from day 28-56 (P < 0.001). Small fetuses had relatively heavier brains and hearts at day 45, 50 and 56 (P < 0.001). Size of placenta, fetus weight/placental weight ratio and length of umbilical cord increased with gestational age (P < 0.001). There was a positive correlation between size of placenta and weight of individual fetus (P < 0.001), the weight of the fetus was positively correlated with umbilical cord length (P < 0.001) and the umbilical cross-sectional area was correlated to fetal weight at day 56 (P < 0.01). Individual fetal weight was positively correlated to the fetus weight/placental weight ratio (P < 0.001). In conclusion, fetal growth was affected by litter size, placental weight, and -area, and umbilical cord length. Lightweight fetuses were characterized by having placentas with lower weight and area and shorter umbilical cords. Lastly, within-litter variation in fetal weight was detectable at day 28, and the coefficient of variance remained stable from day 33-56.

Abstract
Piglets with low birth weight present low vitality after farrowing, often leading to impaired weight gain during lactation. A recessive missense variant (C > T) for increased appetite and fatness in the porcine leptin receptor gene (rs709596309) causes a negative maternal effect on the weight of piglets at weaning. However, it is not known whether this variant already exerts an effect on the birth weight and vitality of newborn piglets and on their growing capacity during lactation. An experiment was conducted using 668 purebred Duroc piglets (131 CC, 311 CT, and 226 TT) from 74 multiparous sows (9 CC, 43 CT, and 22 TT) and 14 boars (1 CC, 10 CT, and 3 TT). All piglets were individually weighed at birth and tested for vitality, which was assessed on a scale from 1 (low vitality) to 3 (high vitality) based on behavioral observations, including the status of the piglet immediately before the test. Only non-adopted piglets were considered for piglet performance at weaning. Inferences on the effect of the genotype on birth and weaning traits were done on a Bayesian setting based on 2-trait bivariate models including the effects of the piglet and the litter, as well as the genotype of the sow and the piglet, the sex of the piglet, and the parity number. Vitality and the status of the piglet before the test were analyzed using a liability threshold (probit) model. As compared to other genotypes, TT newborn piglets were 28 g heavier, were more vital (the probability of being scored as highly vital was 6.5% higher) and were more often found suckling before the test (the probability of being suckling at test was 6.5% higher). As a result, they grew more during lactation (153 g) and were heavier at weaning (169 g) than littermates of the two other genotypes, thus partly compensating for the limited maternal capacity of TT sows. Our findings provide evidence that appetite-influencing genes, such as the leptin receptor gene, have developmental implications from very early life stages.

Abstract
The backfat thickness of pigs not only affects the physical properties and taste of meat, but it also closely relates to the reproduction performance of sows. Accumulating evidence indicates that, apart from genetic factors, gut microbiota can also modulate the fat deposition and muscle growth. However, the differential microbiota in pigs with different backfat thickness, and whether microbiota affects backfat thickness, remains elusive. Firstly, 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene sequencing was performed on 62 fecal samples from pigs with different backfat thicknesses, and the compositions of microbiota among different groups with different backfat thicknesses were different. The abundance of Lactobacillus. reuteri (L. reuteri) and Prevotella sp RS2 was significantly higher in pigs with low-backfat thickness than that in pigs with middle and high-backfat thickness; meanwhile, the abundance of Desulfovibrio piger was significantly lower (p < 0.05) in pigs with low-backfat thickness. Furthermore, the functional profiling of microbial communities suggested that the abundance of isoquinoline alkaloid biosynthesis and styrene degradation were significantly lower (p < 0.05) in the low-backfat thickness group than that in middle and high-backfat thickness groups. Finally, L. reuteri fed to Meishan piglets was capable of improving the production performance and had the potential to reduce backfat thickness. This study provides new evidence that microbiota can regulate the phenotype of the host, and dietary supplementation with L. reuteri can improve the production performance of piglets.

Abstract
Energy demands during lactation greatly influence sow body condition and piglet performance. We hypothesized that primiparous sows or sows with reduced body condition would produce piglets with reduced growth and delayed sexual maturation. Eight weekly farrowing seasons were used to evaluate sow body condition (post-farrowing, PF and weaning, WN) and piglet growth from 157 dams. Body condition was measured at PF and WN using sow calipers (last rib and hip) and 10th rib ultrasound. Sows were categorized as thin, moderate, or fat by caliper (PF or WN). Individual pig weights were recorded on approximately 1, 10, WN, 45, 100, and 145 d of age. At 100 and 145 d of age, 10th-rib backfat and loin eye area were measured on 567 pigs and first estrus was monitored in 176 gilts reserved for breeding selection beginning at approximately 170 d of age. Sows had similar (P > 0.10) PF last rib caliper measurements but at WN, first parity sows had the smallest caliper measurements compared to other parities (P < 0.05). Parities 1, 2, and 3 sows had similar (P > 0.10) loin eye area at PF; however, at WN first parity sows had the smallest loin eye area (P < 0.05; 38.2 ± 0.63 cm2). Parity 1 sows had the greatest (P < 0.05) reduction of backfat and loin eye area over the lactation period (-2.9 ± 0.31 mm and -2.6 ± 0.49 cm2, respectively). At 1 d of age and WN, piglets from first parity sows weighed the least (P < 0.05) but were the heaviest (P < 0.05) at 100 and 145 d of age. Pigs from first parity litters had larger (P < 0.05) loin eye area at 100 and 145 d of age and greater backfat (P < 0.05) at 145 d of age. Fat sows at WN (last rib or hip) had the lightest (P < 0.05) piglets at 10 d of age and WN. However, at 45 d of age, piglets from fat sows (last rib or hip) were heavier (P < 0.05) than piglets from moderate and thin sows. Tenth rib backfat at 100 and 145 d of age tended (P < 0.10) to be less in pigs reared by thin sows (PF and WN hip). Tenth rib loin eye area was similar among pigs reared by fat, moderate, or thin sows. Gilts developed in litters from fourth parity sows had (P < 0.05) delayed age at puberty in contrast to gilts from first or third parity sows (200.9 ± 4.96 d vs. 189.0 ± 2.29 d and 187.5 ± 2.84 d, respectively). Although progeny body weights were typically less from first parity dams through 45 d of age, these progeny were similar or heavier at 100 and 145 d of age in contrast to progeny from other parities. Furthermore, gilt progeny from first parity dams did not have delayed pubertal attainment.

Abstract
This study was conducted on Large White Yorkshire prepubertal gilts (n=36) to evaluate the effect of flaxseed supplementation on feed intake, bodyweight, metabolic profile and reproductive parameters. The gilts were randomly allocated to three treatments, viz. group 1 (n=12; control), group 2 (n=12) and group 3 (n=12). All gilts received grower-finisher rations, twice daily from 120 days of age until 240 days of age. Additionally, in group 2 and group 3, flaxseed was mixed at a rate of 0.5% and 1.0% of dry matter, respectively. Average daily feed intake did not differ between three groups. Bodyweight and daily bodyweight gain were more in gilts of group 3 than in group 2 and group 1 toward the end of feeding period. The gilts of group 3 had an improved feed conversion ratio compared to their contemporary mates throughout the study period. Over the period of time, a significant reduction in cholesterol levels and linear increase in IGF-1 levels was noticed in gilts of group 3 as compared to their counterparts. Gilts of group 3 reached puberty and expressed estrus at breeding significantly earlier than in their contemporary mates. The number of total piglets born and born alive was maximum in group 3 followed by group 2 and group 1. Piglet birth weight and still birth percentage were similar in all groups. In conclusion, supplementing flaxseed (1.0%) in diet improved body composition variables, age at onset of puberty and reproductive performance of prepubertal gilts.

Abstract
A total of 467 sows were used to evaluate the effect of feeding duration of increased lysine (Lys) and metabolizable energy (ME) prior to farrowing on sow and litter performance, piglet survival, and colostrum quality. Sows were blocked by body weight (BW) and parity category on day 106 of gestation and allotted to one of three dietary regimens starting on day 107 of gestation: 1) Control: 2.0 kg/d gestation feed (12.5 g standardized ileal digestible [SID] Lys and 6.5 Mcal ME) until day 113 of gestation, then 2.7 kg/d lactation feed (28 g SID Lys and 9.4 Mcal ME) until parturition; 2) 2.0 kg/d gestation feed (12.5 g SID Lys and 6.5 Mcal ME) until day 113 of gestation, then 3.8 kg/d lactation feed (40 g SID Lys and 13.3 Mcal ME) until parturition; or 3) 3.8 kg/d lactation feed (40 g SID Lys and 13.3 Mcal ME) until parturition. Data were analyzed for treatment within parity effects using the GLIMMIX procedure of SAS. Increasing the duration of feeding additional Lys and ME increased (P < 0.05) sow weight gain from day 106 to 113. Sow backfat gain from day 106 to 113 of gestation increased (P < 0.05) in gilts and sows fed 3.8 kg/d of the lactation diet starting on day 107 vs. the control regimen. Average total born and born alive piglet birth weight (BiWt) were greater (P < 0.05) in gilts fed 3.8 kg/d lactation diet starting on day 107 or 113 vs. control, with no evidence (P > 0.05) for the difference in piglet BiWt in sows or weaning weight in gilts and sows. Piglet mortality after cross-fostering to weaning was decreased (P < 0.05) in sows fed 3.8 kg/d lactation diet starting on day 113 vs. control or increased lactation diet starting on day 107 but not in gilts. Litter gain from cross-foster to weaning was decreased (P < 0.05) in gilts fed 3.8 kg/d lactation diet starting on day 107 compared with control, with no evidence for difference in sows. Colostrum immunoglobulin G was increased (P < 0.05) in gilts and sows fed 3.8 kg/d of the lactation diet starting on day 113 compared with control. There was no evidence that dietary regimen influenced (P > 0.05) piglet colostrum intake or colostrum yield. There was also no evidence for difference (P > 0.05) among regimens in wean-to-estrus interval, subsequent farrowing rate, or subsequent litter characteristics. In conclusion, feeding increased Lys and ME prior to farrowing increased BW and backfat. Feeding increased Lys and ME when gilts were moved into the farrowing room increased BiWt, but reduced litter growth to weaning, with little evidence that sow performance was influenced in this study.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to verify the best mating age of gilts at the
first parity. Gilts (n = 86) were divided into nine groups in a factorial
arrangement with three Ages (AG1, ≤ 220 d; AG2, 220 to 240 d; AG3, 240
≤ d), and three weights (WT1 ≤ 140 kg; WT2, 140 to 149 kg; WT3,
150 ≤ kg). A higher body weight gain in AG2 sows during gestation. Sows
in AG2 group showed a higher body weight gain at first parity and backfat gain
in the parity 2 and 3 during gestation. A greater insulin–like growth
factor-1 (IGF-1) was observed in AG1 sows compared with AG3 sows at weaning in
the second parity. Sows in WT1 group showed a significant positive effect on the
plasma IGF-1 at breeding and weaning time in parity 2. Sows in AG3 group showed
a higher plasma leptin at breeding, farrowing, and weaning in the parity 1, and
at farrowing in parity 2. Sows in WT3 group showed a higher plasma leptin at
breeding, farrowing, and weaning in the parities 1 and 2. Considering the
insignificant longevity results, the most efficient time for gilts insemination
can be at 220 d when their body weight is 140 kg or lower.

Abstract
Alpha-tocopherol-selenium (ATS) and ascorbic acid (AA) are the potent antioxidants. The present study investigated whether supplementation of ATS and AA in periparturient sows has positive effects on amelioration of oxidative stress, serum immunoglobulin G (IgG), lipid profile and sows performance. For this, twenty-four pregnant multiparous sows (landrace×indigenous) were randomly distributed into four groups (6 sows per group) 20 days before expected date of farrowing as Control (basal diet); ATS (basal diet + ATS); AA (basal diet + AA) and ATS-AA (basal diet + ATS plus AA). The results of the study revealed that the concentrations of triglyceride and cholesterol significantly reduced from day -7 to day 7 of farrowing irrespective of supplementations to sows, but the leptin concentration significantly reduced on day 7 of farrowing in ATS-AA supplemented sows (p<0.05). Moreover, sows of supplemented groups experienced decreased oxidative stress and cortisol level than control sows. The serum IgG concentration was significantly increased on day 7 post-farrowing in ATS group but it was much earlier on day 2 of farrowing in ATS-AA group (p<0.001). Supplementing sows with ATS and/or AA did not influence significantly the birth weight, weaning weight and litter size at weaning (p>0.05). Although piglet survival rate was not affected significantly by supplementation, however, piglet mortality rate was lowest in ATS-AA than any other groups. It was concluded that supplementation of ATS and/or AA to sows during late gestating and early lactating period ameliorated oxidative stress, improved lipid profile and serum IgG level without influencing reproductive performance.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of dietary inclusion of 25 g/day of L-Arginine (n = 7) or iso‑nitrogenous amounts of alanine (n = 6) from d 30 of gestation to d 28 of lactation of sows on performance, muscle traits and meat quality in offspring. From each litter, heaviest and smallest littermate of both sexes were reared from d 28 and slaughtered at d 140 in accordance with a 23factorial design. A response to L-Arginine were obtained on small females where L-Arginine increased birth weight, however this effect disappeared at weaning. L-Arginine increased daily gain by 7% and increased the cross-sectional area of the M. semitendinosus in small females by 14%, suggesting an increased lean ratio. Mechanistic studies showed firstly, that small female littermates had increased number of muscle fibres (myogenesis) after L-Arginine treatment (11%) and secondly increased total DNA (12%) as a consequence of satellite cell proliferation. Traits describing tenderness seem to be affected by L-Arginine but further studies are needed.

Abstract
The current study investigated the effects of different levels of feed intake during 4 short periods of gestation and of housing systems on sow and litter performance. A total of 255 multiparous sows were allotted to 1-4 dietary treatments using a randomized complete block design blocking by initial body weight (BW), backfat (BF) and parity. Sows were housed either in individual stalls (n=129) or group pens (n=126) with 55 sows in each pen with electronic sow feeder during gestation. All sows were fed one common corn-soybean meal-based diet with the amount of 1.0×maintenance energy level of feed intake (106×BW0.75) throughout gestation except 4 periods of 7 d when dietary treatments were imposed on day 27, 55, 83 and 97 of gestation. During the 4 periods, sows were fed 1 of 4 different levels of feed intake: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0×maintenance energy level (0.5M, 1.0M, 1.5M and 2.0M, respectively). Results showed that both BW gain and BF change during gestation for sows on 1.5M (49.7kg and 3.1mm, respectively) and 2.0M (52.5kg and 3.7mm, respectively) levels of feed intake were significantly (P<0.01) greater than sows on 0.5M (26.1kg and -0.1mm, respectively) and 1.0M (35.6kg and 0.1, respectively) levels of feed intake. In contrast, lactation weight gain for sows on 1.5M (3.3kg) and 2.0M (3.4kg) levels of feed intake during 4 short periods of gestation were significantly (P<0.01) less than sows on 0.5M (18.4kg) and 1.0M (11.4kg) levels of feed intake during 4 short periods of gestation, whereas BF loss during lactation for sows on 1.5M (-3.6mm) level of feed intake during 4 short periods of gestation were significantly (P=0.03) higher than sows on 1.0M (-2.1mm) level of feed intake during 4 short periods of gestation. Additionally, average daily feed intake during lactation for sows on 0.5M (6.6kg/d) level of feed intake during gestation tended (P=0.06) to be greater than sows on 2.0M (5.9kg/d) level of feed intake. There were no differences (P>0.1) among 4 levels of feed intake in terms of numbers of total born and weaning piglets. However, both piglet weight at birth (1.46, 1.52, 1.53 and 1.51kg for piglets from sows on 0.5M, 1.0M, 1.5M and 2.0M levels of feed intake during gestation, respectively) and at weaning (6.37, 6.55, 6.64 and 6.38kg for piglets from sows on 0.5M, 1.0M, 1.5M and 2.0M levels of feed intake during gestation, respectively) were maximized at 1.5M level of feed intake. Sows housed in group pens had greater (P<0.01) net BW gain (24.7 vs. 19.2kg) from day 27 of gestation to weaning compared with sows housed in individual stalls. However, there were no differences (P>0.1) between the 2 housing systems in terms of litter size and piglet weight at birth and at weaning. In conclusion, increasing levels of feed intake during 4 short periods of gestation increased BW and BF gain during gestation and led to less BW gain and more BF loss during lactation. Piglet weight at birth and at weaning was maximized at 1.5M level of feed intake. However, housing systems did not affect reproductive performance. Group pen housing system may be beneficial in terms of increased overall BW gain during gestation and lactation.

Abstract
The potential relation between body condition of gilts in late-pregnancy and litter BW gain as well as mammary development was studied using 2 sets of data. Gilts either from a commercial herd (Part 1, n = 182) or from a series of trials looking at mammary development (Part 2, n = 172) were separated in 3 groups according to backfat thickness (BF) on d 110 of gestation. Group categorization was similar for Parts 1 and 2 of the study and was: low (LOW), 13.6 ± 1.6 mm (mean ± SD); medium (MED), 17.6 ± 1.0 mm (mean ± SD); and high BF (HIGH), 21.8 ± 1.8 mm (mean ± SD) for Part 1, and LOW, 14.2 ± 1.3 mm (mean ± SD); MED, 18.1 ± 1.0 mm (mean ± SD), and HIGH 23.4 ± 2.6 mm (mean ± SD) for Part 2. The effects of BF group on piglet BW gain (Part 1) or on various mammary gland characteristics (Part 2) were determined using ANOVA. Litters from HIGH sows tended to have a greater lactation BW gain than those from LOW sows (P < 0.10). Sows with HIGH BF had more mammary parenchymal tissue and more total protein and total DNA than MED and LOW sows (P < 0.05), which led to greater total protein and total DNA contents (P < 0.05). There were strong positive correlations (P < 0.0001) between parenchymal weight and total protein, total DNA, and total RNA. Results suggest that it is beneficial for primiparous sows to have greater BF (i.e., 20 to 26 mm) at the end of gestation to achieve optimal mammary development and greater litter BW gain in the subsequent lactation.

Abstract
The present study investigated the effects of different feeding levels during 3 short periods of gestation on gilt and litter performance, apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of energy and nutrients, and energy homeostasis in gilts. A total of 18 gilts were allotted to 1 of 3 dietary treatments using a completely randomized design. All gilts were fed 1 common corn-soybean meal-based diet with the amount of 1.0 × maintenance energy intake (100 × BW (BW) kcal ME/d) throughout gestation except 3 periods of 7 d when dietary treatments were imposed on d 27, d 55, and d 83 of gestation. During the 3 short periods, gilts were fed 1 of 3 different feeding levels: 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 × maintenance energy level (0.5M, 1.0M, and 2.0M, respectively). Results showed that gilts on 2.0M feeding level had higher ( < 0.05) weight gain from d 27 to 109 of gestation (37.05 vs. 15.34 kg) and greater ( < 0.05) BW change, average daily gain, and gain to feed ratio during gestation periods 1 (d 27-34) and 3 (d 83-90) when compared with gilts on 0.5M feeding level. No differences ( > 0.10) in litter performance were observed among the 3 feeding levels. Additionally, the slopes of BW change in response to feeding levels in period 1 were 4.32 kg/0.5M change from 0.5M to 1.0M feeding level and 3.72 kg/0.5M change from 1.0M to 2.0M feeding level, respectively. There were quadratic ( < 0.05) effects of feeding levels on ATTD of dry matter and gross energy during periods 1 and 2 (d 55-62). Furthermore, fasting plasma concentrations of acyl ghrelin and nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) in period 1 were greater ( < 0.01) in gilts on 0.5M feeding level than those on 2.0M feeding level. In conclusion, increasing feeding levels during 3 short periods increased primiparous sow performance during these short periods but did not affect litter performance. ATTD of energy and nutrients, and BW change efficiency were maximized for gilts on 1.0 M feeding level. The data also indicated that sows on the lowest feeding level were exposed to negative energy balance as evidenced by the higher plasma acyl ghrelin and NEFA concentrations.
