Abstract
Despite both fluoroalkylsulfonyl groups and benzofurans are important bioactive moieties, the construction of fluoroalkanesulfonylated benzofurans that incorporate these two fragments remains underdeveloped. Here, we report a tandem cyclization protocol to construct a wide range of 3-fluoroalkylsulfonyl benzofurans using readily accessible o-hydroxyphenyl propargyl alcohols and sodium fluoroalkanesulfinates. Furthermore, this synthetic strategy can also be adapted to prepare 3-thio benzofurans by changing the S-nucleophiles to thiols or thiophenols.

Abstract
A gold-catalyzed sulfonylation reaction of aryl iodides with different sodium sulfinates facilitated by the ligand-enabled Au(I)/Au(III) redox catalysis was developed. In the reaction of gold-catalyzed C-S coupling, a variety of functionalized sodium sulfinates, such as CF3, CHF2, CH3, and alkyl groups, can react smoothly with aryl iodides to directly construct diversely functionalized aryl sulfones. This gold-catalyzed sulfonylation offers a complementary method for synthesizing functionalized aryl sulfones with electron-donating groups.

Abstract
Positron emission tomography (PET) is becoming increasingly important in nuclear medicine and drug discovery. To date, the development of many potential PET tracers is hampered by the lack of suitable synthetic pathways for their preparation. This is particularly true for the highly desired radiolabeling of compounds bearing [18F]CF3-groups. For instance, S(O)nCF3-groups (n=0, 1, 2) serve as structural motif in a range of biologically active compounds, but their radiosynthesis remains largely unprecedented (for n=1, 2). Herein, we describe general methods for the radiosynthesis of 18F-labeled aryl trifluoromethyl sulfones, -sulfoxides, and -sulfides. All three methods are operationally straightforward, start from widely available precursors, i.e., sulfonyl fluorides and thiophenols, and make use of the recently established [18F]Ruppert-Prakash reagent. Further, the syntheses display good functional group tolerance as demonstrated by the 18F-labeling of more than 40 compounds. The applicability of the new method is demonstrated by the radiolabeling of three bioactive molecules, optionally to be used as PET tracers. In a broader context, this work presents a substantial expansion of the chemical space of radiofluorinated structural motifs to be used for the development of new PET tracers.

Abstract
Despite the significance of sultines in synthesis, medicine, and materials science, the chemistry of sultines has remained unexplored due to their inaccessibility. Herein, we demonstrate the development of a photoredox-catalyzed multifluoromethyl radical addition/SO2 incorporation/polar cyclization cascade approach to multifluoromethylated γ-sultines. The reactions proceed by single electron transfer induced multifluoromethyl radical addition to an alkene followed by SO2 incorporation, and single-electron reduction for polar 5-exo-tet cyclization. Key to the success of the protocol is the use of easily oxidizable multifluoroalkanesulfinates as bifunctional reagents. The reactions proceed with excellent functional-group tolerance to deliver γ-sultines in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract
B cells have been implicated in transplant rejection via antibody-mediated mechanisms and more recently by presenting donor antigens to T cells. We have shown in patients with chronic antibody-mediated rejection that B cells control the indirect T cell alloresponses. To understand more about the role of B cells as antigen-presenting cells for CD4+ T cell with indirect allospecificity, B cells were depleted in C57BL/6 mice, using an anti-CD20 antibody, prior to receiving MHC class I-mismatched (Kd ) skin. The absence of B cells at the time of transplantation prolonged skin graft survival. To study the mechanisms behind this observation, T cells with indirect allospecificity were transferred in mice receiving a Kd skin transplant. T cell proliferation was markedly inhibited in the absence of recipient B cells, suggesting that B cells contribute to indirect pathway sensitization. Furthermore, we have shown that a possible way in which B cells present alloantigens is via acquisition of MHC-peptide complexes. Finally, we demonstrate that the addition of B cell depletion to the transfer of regulatory T cells (Tregs) with indirect alloresponse further prolonged skin graft survival. This study supports an important role for B cells in indirect T cell priming and further emphasizes the advantage of combination therapies in prolonging transplant survival.

Abstract
This review highlights the preparation of sodium sulfinates (RSO2Na) and their multifaceted synthetic applications. Substantial progress has been made over the last decade in the utilization of sodium sulfinates emerging as sulfonylating, sulfenylating or sulfinylating reagents, depending on reaction conditions. Sodium sulfinates act as versatile building blocks for preparing many valuable organosulfur compounds through S-S, N-S, and C-S bond-forming reactions. Remarkable advancement has been made in synthesizing thiosulfonates, sulfonamides, sulfides, and sulfones, including vinyl sulfones, allyl sulfones, and β-keto sulfones. The significant achievement of developing sulfonyl radical-triggered ring-closing sulfonylation and multicomponent reactions is also thoroughly discussed. Of note, the most promising site-selective C-H sulfonylation, photoredox catalytic transformations and electrochemical synthesis of sodium sulfinates are also demonstrated. Holistically, this review provides a unique and comprehensive overview of sodium sulfinates, which summarizes 355 core references up to March 2020. The chemistry of sodium sulfinate salts is divided into several sections based on the classes of sulfur-containing compounds with some critical mechanistic insights that are also disclosed.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the modular synthesis of sulfones and sulfonyl derivatives has been developed utilizing sodium tert-butyldimethylsilyloxymethanesulfinate (TBSOMS-Na) as a sulfoxylate (SO2 2-) equivalent. TBSOMS-Na, easily prepared from the commercial reagents Rongalite™ and TBSCl, serves as a potent nucleophile in S-alkylation and Cu-catalyzed S-arylation reactions with alkyl and aryl electrophiles. The sulfone products thus obtained can undergo the second bond formation at the sulfur center with various electrophiles without a separate unmasking step to afford sulfones and sulfonyl derivatives such as sulfonamides and sulfonyl fluorides.

Abstract
Dasabuvir (1) is an HCV polymerase inhibitor which has been developed as a part of a three-component direct-acting antiviral combination therapy. During the course of the development of the synthetic route, two novel coupling reactions were developed. First, the copper-catalyzed coupling of uracil with aryl iodides, employing picolinamide 16 as the ligand, was discovered. Later, the palladium-catalyzed sulfonamidation of aryl nonaflate 33 was developed, promoted by electron-rich palladium complexes, including the novel phosphine ligand, VincePhos (50). This made possible a convergent, highly efficient synthesis of dasabuvir that significantly reduced the mutagenic impurity burden of the process.

Abstract
Sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate, CF3SO2Na, and trifluoromethanesulfonyl chloride, CF3SO2Cl, are two popular reagents that are widely used for the direct trifluoromethylation of a large range of substrates. Further, these two reagents are employed for the direct trifluoromethylsulfenylation and trifluoromethylsulfinylation, the introduction of the SCF3 and the S(O)CF3 group, respectively. In addition to the aforementioned reactions, the versatility of these two reagents is presented in other reactions such as sulfonylation and chlorination. This first part is dedicated to sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate.

Abstract
The reactivity of 2-trichloromethylbenzoxazoles toward various nucleophiles, under metal-free or iron-catalyzed conditions, for the synthesis of substituted benzoxazoles is described. These methods allow for selective substitution at either the 2- or 2'-position of the benzoxazoles using the same starting materials/reagents. This approach allows for the controlled synthesis of a variety of key derivatives from a single 2-trichloromethylbenzoxazole starting material.
