Abstract
Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) active 3-(3-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(4'-(diphenylamino)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)acrylonitrile (BTPA) has been designed and synthesized herein, with the goal of detecting CN- ions at a low-level in semi-aqueous medium. The deliberate addition of the electron-deficient alkene BTPA increased its sensitivity and selectivity to CN- ions, with a better detection limit of 6.4 nM, unveiling the next-generation approach to creating sophisticated CN- ions selective chemosensors. The ESI-MS and NMR spectra analyses provided strong support for the structures of the chemosensors, while the UV-Vis, photoluminescence, and 1H-NMR titration experiments provided support for the sensing efficiencies. Subsequently, PVDF/BTPA electrospun nanofibers have been effectively produced as functional films. These nanofiber films exhibit outstanding mechanical strength, photo/thermal stability, and optical responsiveness to CN- ions, making them a potential choice for on-field emerging contaminant detection.

Abstract
A liposome based nanosensor Lipo-1 for efficient detection of copper, cyanide (CN-) and ATP in a pure aqueous medium has been described. Lipo-1 shows a fluorescence ON-OFF response with copper. However, Lipo-1.Cu (Lipo-1 and copper ensemble) was used for the OFF-ON detection of ATP with nM and CN- with μM detection levels, lower than the WHO permissible level for safe drinking. Lipo-1 has better and enhanced binding properties over the counter organic amphiphilic compound Bzimpy-LC, which is not soluble in water. The significant changes in the emission spectra in the presence of Cu2+, CN- and ATP ions, as variable inputs, are used to construct INHIBIT and OR logic operations in a nano-scale environment. The fluorescent detection of CN- ions with Lipo-1.Cu was used to develop an enzyme assay for β-glucosidase using amygdalin as the substrate. β-Glucosidase enzymatic activity was monitored by the emission OFF-ON signal of the probe Lipo-1.Cu by CN- detection. This approach could be an efficient method for developing a fluorescence-based β-glucosidase enzyme assay. A switch ON luminescence response, low detection limit, fast response, 100% aqueous solution, biocompatibility, multi-analyte detection, and improved sensitivity and selectivity of Bzimpy-LC in lipid bilayer membranes are the main features of the nanoprobe Lipo-1. These properties give it a clear advantage for analytical applications.

Abstract
Intracellular viscosity, an important microenvironment factor, is closely involved in various cell processes as well as diseases. On the other hand, cyanide is one of the most hazardous chemicals for human health and environments. However, a NIR fluorescent probe for both response to viscosity and detection of cyanide remains vacant. Herein, we reported a D-π-A structure fluorophore (named CTR) which exhibited NIR emission and fluorescent enhancement response to viscosity via the molecular rotor strategy. Furthermore, CTR displayed fluorescent and colorimetric response to cyanide. Notably, test strips stained with CTR were fabricated, which could serve as an efficient and suitable cyanide test kit. Moreover, CTR could selectively accumulate in lipid droplets and visualize the metabolism of lipid droplets in live cells. These findings would provide new avenue to design fluorescent probe for effective response to viscosity, detection of cyanide, and bioimaging of lipid droplets in live cells.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide detection and sensing is an area of interest from both an environmental and a biological perspective. While many methods are currently available, the most sensitive and biologically applicable ones are fluorescence based. In general, these fluorescent probes are based upon large, high-molecular weight, well-characterized fluorescent scaffolds that are synthetically demanding to prepare and difficult to tune and modify. In this study, we have reported a new reduction-based, rationally designed and synthesized turn-on fluorescent probe (Z)-2-(4′-azidobenzylidene)-5-fluorobenzofuran-3(2H)-one (6g) utilizing a low molecular weight aurone fluorophore. During these studies, the modular nature of the synthesis was used to quickly overcome problems with solubility, overlap of excitation of the probe and reduced product, and rate of reaction, resulting in a final compound that is efficient and sensitive for the detection of hydrogen sulfide. The limitation of slow reaction and the reduced fluorescence in a biologically relevent medium was solved by employing cationic surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The probe features a high fluorescence enhancement, fast response (10–30 min), and good sensitivity (1 μm) and selectivity for hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide detection and sensing is an area of interest from both an environmental and a biological perspective.![]()

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is considered as a highly toxic environmental pollutant and an important signal transmitter in physiological processes, and the selective and reliable detection of H2S is of great concern and remains challenging. Herein, we report a smart sensitive "off-on" 19F NMR sensor for H2S by partially introducing a fluorinated ligand to construct a hollow dual metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosystem, F-ZnFeIII hMOF, in which the fluorinated ligand acts as the 19F signal source but is initially quenched due to the strong paramagnetic relaxation enhancement (PRE) effect from neighboring Fe3+ nodes. Upon exposure to sulfide ions, reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+ is specifically triggered, which attenuates PRE efficiency, thus turning on the 19F NMR signal. The unique hollow MOF architecture benefits the mobility of 19F atoms, thereby improving the response sensitivity. Meanwhile, the desirable H2S-sorption feature and appropriate redox potential of Fe3+/Fe2+ account for the favorable selectivity. The increase in the 19F signal is linear with the concentration of sulfide in the range of 20 to 150 μM with a detection limit of 2.8 μM. The probe is well demonstrated by analyzing H2S in complex matrixes such as biological and foodstuff samples.

Abstract
Detection of environmentally important ion cyanide (CN-) has been done by a new method involving displacement of both metal and indicator, metal indicator displacement approach (MIDA) on the vesicular interface. Terpyridine unit was selected as the binding site for metal (Cu2+), whereas Eosin-Y (EY) was preferred as an indicator. About 150 nm sized nanoscale vesicular ensemble (Lip-1.Cu) has shown good selectivity and sensitivity for CN- without any interference from other biologically and environmentally important anions. Otherwise, copper complexes are known for the interferences of binding with phosphates and amino acids. The Lip-1.Cu nanoreceptor also has the possibility to be used for real-time colorimetric scanning for the released HCN via enzymatic reactions. Lip-1.Cu has several superiorities over the other reported sensor systems. It has worked in 100% aqueous environment, fast response time with colorimetric monitoring of enzymatic reaction, and low detection limit.

Abstract
The design and synthesis of efficient probes for the detection of hydrogen sulfide is essential to explore the physiological role of such signaling molecules. A new probe,CDP containing 2-[(2,4-dinitrophenyl)thio]benzoic acid as responsive moiety was developed for H2S. After cleavage of responsive moiety occurs through a H2S-triggered nucleophilic reaction, the fluorescence of CDP was switched on. Up to 20-fold fluorescence enhancement toward H2S was observed and the detection limit was calculated to be as low as 307 nM. Moreover, this probe CDP was simple with good selectivity, high sensitivity and low cytotoxicity, which enabled it to detect H2S in solutions and exogenous/endogenous H2S in HepG-2 cells respectively.

Abstract
An efficient access toward novel tridentate ligands based on 1,7-dipyridinyl-substituted bis-pyrazolo[3,4-b:4',3'-e]pyridines (BPs) and their usefulness as fluorescent probes for cation detection is reported. The synthesis proceeds by a three-step sequence starting from 2-chloropyridine (1), all reactions were performed using microwave radiation under solvent-free conditions, and an overall yield of up to 63% was obtained. Photophysical properties of three representative 1,7-dipyridinyl-BPs (PBPs, 6a-6c) substituted at position 4 with different donor (D) or acceptor (A) groups were investigated. Compounds exhibited large Stokes shift in different solvents and strong blue light emission in both solution and solid state, and quantum yields were as high as 88% for some of them; thus, a twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) fluorescence mechanism characteristic of the 1,4,7-triaryl-BPs was confirmed. The 4-phenyl-substituted probe (Ph-PBP, 6b) was used successfully in the detection of some metals (Cu2+, Co2+, Ni2+, and Hg2+) by fluorescence quenching phenomena, which could be reversed in the presence of ethylenediamine. This probe showed a greater sensitivity toward Cu2+ in concentrations as low as 26 nM, and in the process of "on-off-on" for this fluorescent molecular switch, only 1 equiv of the analyte was used.

Abstract
The development of red emissive aggregation-induced emission (AIE) active probes for organelle-specific imaging is of great importance. Construction of metal complex-based AIE-active materials with metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT), ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) emission together with the ligand-centered and intraligand (LC/ILCT) emission is a challenging task. We developed a red emissive ruthenium(II) complex, 1[PF6]2, and its perchlorate analogues of the 4,7-dichloro phenanthroline ligand. 1[PF6]2 has been characterized by spectroscopic and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 showed AIE enhancement in water, highly dense polyethylene glycol media, and also in the solid state. The possible reason behind the AIE property may be the weak supramolecular π···π, C-H···π, and C-Cl···H interactions between neighboring phen ligands as well as C-Cl···O halogen bonding (XB). The crystal structures of the two perchlorate analogues revealed C-Cl···O distances shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii, which confirmed the XB interaction. The AIE property was supported by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and atomic force microscopy studies. Most importantly, the probe was found to be low cytotoxicity and to efficiently permeate the cell membrane. The cell-imaging experiments revealed rapid staining of the nucleolus in HeLa cells via the interaction with nucleolar ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA). It is expected that the supramolecular interactions as well as C-Cl···O XB interaction with rRNA is the origin of aggregation and possible photoluminescence enhancement. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of red emissive ruthenium(II) complex-based probes with AIE characteristics for selective rRNA detection and nucleolar imaging.

Sequential Detection of CN- and HSO4- Anions in an Aqueous Environment Utilizing a New Colorimetric Azoimine Receptor: Mimicking Logic Gate Behaviour and a Security Keypad Lock. Aust J Chem 2018. Abstract
A new isonicotiamide-based azoimine receptor has been successfully devised and synthesised for dual-recognition of CN− and HSO4− anions in aqueous media (3 : 2 DMSO–water solution). The devised azomethine probe detected lethal cyanide ions under UV-vis spectroscopy through the rapid appearance of an orange colour. More importantly, the colour and spectroscopic changes of the devised chemosensor could be revived upon the addition of HSO4− to the sensor containing cyanide ions. Furthermore, other surveyed anions failed to induce a similar response. Interestingly, based on changes in absorption intensity at a particular wavelength in the presence of two aforementioned anions, as two chemical inputs, an INHIBIT logic gate has been elaborated. Moreover, the reversibility of the sensory system provided an opportunity to present a sequential logic circuit at a molecular level. In accession, the target chemosensor could operate as a molecular keypad lock with sequential chemical inputs of CN− and HSO4− anions.
