Abstract
Polyimide (PI) film with hydrophilic greatly limits their application in the field of microelectronic device packaging. A novel hydrophobic PI film with sag structure and improved mechanical properties is prepared relying on the reaction between anhydride-terminated isocyanate-based polyimide (PIY) containing a seven-membered ring structure and the amino-terminated polyamide acid (PAA) via multi-hybrid strategy, this work named it as hybrid PI film and marked it as PI-PIY-X. PI-PIY-30 showed excellent hydrophobic properties, and the water contact angle could reach to 102°, which is 20% and 55% higher than simply PI film and PIY film, respectively. The water absorption is only 1.02%, with a decrease of 49% and 53% compared with PI and PIY. Due to that the degradation of seven-membered ring and generation of carbon dioxide led to the formation of sag structure, the size of sag structures is ≈16.84 and 534.55 nm for in-plane and out-plane direction, which are observed on surface of PI-PIY-30. Meanwhile, PI-PIY-30 possessed improved mechanical properties, and the tensile strength is 109.08 MPa, with 5% and more than 56% higher than that of pure PI and PIY film, showing greatly application prospects in the field of integrated circuit.

Abstract
Biodegradable plastics are attracting attention as a solution to the problems caused by plastic waste. Among biodegradable plastics, polylactide (PLA) and poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) are particularly noteworthy because of their excellent biodegradability. However, the drawbacks of their mechanical properties prompts the need to compound them to achieve the desired strength. The characteristics of the interface of the composite material determine the realization of its final performance. The study of the interface and microstructure of composites is essential for the development of products from degradable polymers. The morphology evolution and microcrystal structure of spin-casted fully biodegradable (PLA/PBS) blend films were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM)-based nanomechanical mapping. Results show that intact blend films present an obvious phase separation, where the PBS phase is uniformly dispersed in the PLA phase in the form of pores. Furthermore, the size and number of the PBS phase have a power exponential relationship and linear relationship with PBS loading, respectively. Intriguingly, after annealing at 80 °C for 30 min, the PLA phase formed an orderly petal-like microcrystalline structure centered on the PBS phase. Moreover, the microcrystalline morphology changed from a "daisy type" to a "sunflower type" with the increased size of the PBS phase. Since the size of the PBS phase is controllable, a new method for preparing microscopic patterns using fully biodegradable polymers is proposed.

Abstract
Polymorphism of semicrystalline polymers has significant influence on their physical properties, with each form having its advantages and disadvantages. However, real-life polymer processing often results in different coexisting crystal polymorphs, and it remains a challenge to determine their shape, spatial distribution, and volume fraction. Here, i-polypropylene (i-PP) sheets containing both α- and β-forms were prepared either by adding β-nucleating agent or by fiber pulling-induced crystallization. By adding a compatible dye that is partially rejected from the growing crystalline aggregates (spherulites and cylindrites), we visualize the shape of these objects in 3D using two-photon fluorescence confocal microscopy. To distinguish between crystal forms, we take advantage of the difference in dye-retaining ability of the α- and β-aggregates. Even in 2D, fluorescence microscopy (FM) distinguishes the two crystal forms better than polarized microscopy. In 3D imaging, the volume fraction and spatial distribution of α- and β-forms in different morphological types could be determined quantitatively. Morphologies described as α-teeth, β-fans, and α-teardrops were visualized for the first time in 3D. Furthermore, internal and surface microcracks were seen to be associated predominantly with the β-form and around the fiber. Spatial distribution of α- and β-forms was also determined by scanning with a synchrotron X-ray beam. Good agreement was obtained with 3D microscopy, but XRD could not match the detail obtainable by the tomography. The work demonstrates the ability of the 3D imaging method to distinguish different crystal forms and their specific morphologies.

Abstract
Two-photon confocal laser microscopy was used to obtain three-dimensional (3D) images of the morphology of poly(lactic acid) after shear-induced crystallization. The necessary fluorescence contrast was achieved by doping the polymer with Nile Red. The dye gets partially rejected from the growing crystalline aggregates during their formation, thus creating a renderable high-low fluorescence boundary outlining the shape of the aggregates. Parallel-plate melt-shearing and pulling a glass fiber through the melt were used as the two methods to achieve shear-induced crystallization. This study focuses on the shape of the resulting cylindrites, i.e., large-diameter shish-kebabs. The first 3D images of polymer cylindrites show that, if far from boundaries, they are circular cylinders, highly regular after fiber pull, but less so after parallel-plate shear. In the latter case, the cylindrite reveals the trajectory of the foreign particle that had nucleated its growth. Interestingly, lateral growth of the cylindrites was found to accelerate toward the sample surface when approaching it, giving the cylindrite an elliptical cross section. Furthermore and surprisingly, in the case of fiber pull, a row of spherulites is nucleated at the polymer-substrate interface nearest to the fiber, aligned along the fiber axis and appearing ahead of the rest of the space-filling spherulites. Both the phenomena, elliptical cylindrites and row of spherulites, are attributed to negative pressure buildup peaking at the cylindrite growth front and at the nearby film surface caused by crystallization-induced volume contraction. The pressure and flow distribution in the system is confirmed by numerical simulation. The results illustrate the value of 3D imaging of crystalline morphology in polymer science and polymer processing industry.

Abstract
Poly[N-9'-hepta-decanyl-2,7-carbazole-alt-5-5-(4',7'-di-2-thienyl-2',1',3'-benzothiadiazole)] (PCDTBT) is a stable semiconducting polymer with high rigidity in its molecular chains, which makes it difficult to organize into an ordered structure and affects the device performance. Here, a PCDTBT network consisting of aggregates and nanofibers in thin films was fabricated through the phase separation of mixed PCDTBT and polyethylene glycol (PEG). Using atomic force microscopy (AFM), the effect of the blending conditions (weight ratio, solution concentration, and molecular weight) and processing conditions (substrate temperature and solvent) on the resulting phase-separated morphologies of the blend films after a selective washing procedure was studied. It was found that the phase-separated structure's transition from an island to a continuous structure occurred when the weight ratio of PCDTBT/PEG changed from 2:8 to 7:3. Increasing the solution concentration from 0.1 to 3.0 wt% led to an increase in both the height of the PCDTBT aggregate and the width of the nanofiber. When the molecular weight of the PEG was increased, the film exhibited a larger PCDTBT aggregate size. Meanwhile, denser nanofibers were found in films prepared using PCDTBT with higher molecular weight. Furthermore, the electrical characteristics of the PCDTBT network were measured using conductive AFM. Our findings suggest that phase separation plays an important role in improving the molecular chain diffusion rate and fabricating the PCDTBT network.

Synergistic Effect of Pressurization Rate and β-Form Nucleating Agent on the Multi-Phase Crystallization of iPP. Polymers (Basel) 2021; 13:polym13172984. Abstract
Using a homemade pressure device, we explored the synergistic effect of pressurization rate and β-form nucleating agent (β-NA) on the crystallization of an isotactic polypropylene (iPP) melt. The obtained samples were characterized by combining small angle X-ray scattering and synchrotron wide angle X-ray diffraction. It was found that the synergistic application of pressurization and β-NA enables the preparation of a unique multi-phase crystallization of iPP, including β-, γ- and/or mesomorphic phases. Pressurization rate plays a crucial role on the formation of different crystal phases. As the pressurization rate increases in a narrow range between 0.6–1.9 MPa/s, a significant competitive formation between β- and γ-iPP was detected, and their relative crystallinity are likely to be determined by the growth of the crystal. When the pressurization rate increases further, both β- and γ-iPP contents gradually decrease, and the mesophase begins to emerge once it exceeds 15.0 MPa/s, then mesomorphic, β- and γ- iPP coexist with each other. Moreover, with different β-NA contents, the best pressurization rate for β-iPP growth is the same as 1.9 MPa/s, while more β-NA just promotes the content of β-iPP under the rates lower than 1.9 MPa/s. In addition to inducing the formation of β-iPP, it shows that β-NA can also significantly promote the formation of γ-iPP in a wide pressurization rate range between 3.8 to 75 MPa/s. These results were elucidated by combining classical nucleation theory and the growth theory of different crystalline phases, and a theoretical model of the pressurization-induced crystallization is established, providing insight into understanding the multi-phase structure development of iPP.

Abstract
We demonstrate by molecular simulations that the Ostwald ripening of crystalline polymer nuclei within the fast-evaporation-induced 2D skin layer is retarded at suitable temperatures and evaporation rates. Such an anomalous ripening can be attributed to the interplay between the thermodynamically driven diffusion of noncrystalline fragments toward the growing nuclei and the diffusive current away from the free surface caused by the densification in the nonequilibrium skin layer. The growth orientation of the nuclei inside the skin plane can be adjusted during this anomalous ripening process, which is beneficial for fabricating 2D polymer crystals.

Abstract
A wide range of possible applications in sensors and optoelectronic devices have focused considerable attention on porous membranes made of semi-conducting polymers. In this study, porous films of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) were conveniently constructed through spin-coating of solutions of a blend of P3HT and polyethylene glycol (PEG). Pores were formed by phase separation driven simultaneously by incompatibility and crystallization. The influence of the polymer concentration (c), molecular weight (Mn) and spin-coating temperature (Tsp) on the pore size and structure was investigated. With increasing c from 0.5 to 5.0 wt%, the pore diameter (d) varied from ≈1.3 μm to ≈38 μm. Similarly, we observed a substantial increase of d with increasing Mn of PEG, while changing Mn of P3HT did not affect d. Micron- and nano-scale pores coexisted in porous P3HT films. While incompatibility of P3HT and PEG caused the formation of nano-pores, micron-scale pores resulted from crystallization in the PEG-rich domains by forcing PEG molecules to diffuse from the surrounding PEG-P3HT blend region to the crystal growth front.

Abstract
Orientation direction dependency of whitening activated at large strains was studied using four pre-oriented isotactic polypropylene (iPP) samples with different molecular weights stretched along different directions with respect to the pre-orientation (0°, 45°, and 90°) by means of in situ wide-, small-, and ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering techniques. A macroscopic fracture of iPP materials was also observed following the stress whitening at large strains. These two associated processes in pre-oriented iPP samples at elevated temperatures were found to be governed by not only the molecular weight of iPP but also the pre-orientation direction. For a certain pre-orientation direction of iPP, both the critical stress of cavitation induced-whitening and failure stress increased with increasing molecular weight. For one given molecular weight, the pre-oriented iPP showed the smallest critical stress for whitening and failure stress along the pre-orientation direction (0°) while the samples displayed larger values for the same behaviors when stretched at 45° or 90° with respect to the pre-orientation direction. Such behavior suggested that oriented amorphous networks, with different mechanical strengths, can be generated during the second deformation processes in these pre-oriented iPP samples. The evolution of inter-fibrillar tie chains in highly oriented amorphous networks was considered as the main factor controlling the response of the inner network to the external stress since the cavitation-induced whitening activated at large strains was caused by the failure of load bearing inter-fibrillar tie chains in the oriented amorphous network.
