Abstract
Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) inspired by Nepenthes have attracted much attention owing to their potential application in various cutting-edge fields. However, the performance of SLIPSs is impeded by surface damage and lubricant depletion, thereby limiting their further application. Herein, a UV-responsive slippery surface (SMEMG) was fabricated by introducing the UV-responsive functional group coumarin into the polymer side chain through random copolymerization, followed by crosslinking, curing and impregnation with vegetable oil. The self-healing ability and lubricant self-replenishing performance of the SMEMG were investigated. The results show that upon exposure to UV light, the damaged surface substrate can be repaired through a reversible photodimerization reaction between coumarin groups. Meanwhile, the lubricant oil within the bulk of the SMEMG substrate can be extruded to the surface during the photodimerization reaction, facilitating the recovery of surface wettability. The SMEMG exhibited excellent self-cleaning and anti-algal properties as well as durability in a harsh environment, demonstrating its promising application in marine anti-fouling.

Abstract
Bioinspired slippery surfaces (BSSs) have attracted considerable attention owing to their antifouling, drag reduction, and self-cleaning properties. Accordingly, various technical terms have been proposed for describing BSSs based on specific surface characteristics. However, the terminology can often be confusing, with similar-sounding terms having different meanings. Additionally, some terms fail to fully or accurately describe BSS characteristics, such as the surface wettability of lubricants (hydrophilic or hydrophobic), surface wettability anisotropy (anisotropic or isotropic), and substrate morphology (porous or smooth). Therefore, a timely and thorough review is required to clarify and distinguish the various terms used in BSS literature. This review initially categorizes BSSs into four types: slippery solid surfaces (SSSs), slippery liquid-infused surfaces (SLISs), slippery liquid-like surfaces (SLLSs), and slippery liquid-solid surfaces (SLSSs). Because SLISs have been the primary research focus in this field, we thoroughly review their design and fabrication principles, which can also be applied to the other three types of BSS. Furthermore, we discuss the existing BSS fabrication methods, smart BSS systems, antifouling applications, limitations of BSS, and future research directions. By providing comprehensive and accurate definitions of various BSS types, this review aims to assist researchers in conveying their results more clearly and gaining a better understanding of the literature.

Abstract
Superwetting surfaces with special slippery performances have been the focus of practical applications and basic research for decades. Compared to superhydrophobic/superoleophobic and slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS), liquid-like covalently attached poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) brush surfaces have no trouble in constructing the micro/nanostructure and the loss of infused lubricant, meanwhile, it can also provide lots of new advantages, such as smooth, transparent, pressure- and temperature-resistant, and low contact angle hysteresis (CAH) to diverse liquids. This paper focuses on the relationship between the wetting performance and practical functional application of PDMS brush surfaces. Recent progress of the preparation of PDMS brush surfaces and their super-slippery performances, with a special focus on diverse functional applications were summarized. Finally, perspectives on future research directions are also discussed.

Abstract
Remarkable progress has been made in surface icephobicity in the recent years. The mainstream standpoint of the reported antiicing surfaces yet only considers the ice-substrate interface and its adjacent regions being of static nature. In reality, the local structures and the overall properties of ice-substrate interfaces evolve with time, temperature and various external stimuli. Understanding the dynamic properties of the icing interface is crucial for shedding new light on the design of new anti-icing surfaces to meet challenges of harsh conditions including extremely low temperature and/or long working time. This article surveys the state-of-the-art anti-icing surfaces and dissects their dynamic changes of the chemical/physical states at icing interface. According to the focused critical ice-substrate contacting locations, namely the most important ice-substrate interface and the adjacent regions in the substrate and in the ice, the available anti-icing surfaces are for the first time re-assessed by taking the dynamic evolution into account. Subsequently, the recent works in the preparation of dynamic anti-icing surfaces (DAIS) that consider time-evolving properties, with their potentials in practical applications, and the challenges confronted are summarized and discussed, aiming for providing a thorough review of the promising concept of DAIS for guiding the future icephobic materials designs.

Abstract
Superomniphobic surfaces that can self-repair physical damage are desirable for sustainable performance over time in many practical applications that include self-cleaning, corrosion resistance, and protective gears. However, fabricating such self-repairing superomniphobic surfaces has thus far been a challenge because it necessitates the regeneration of both low-surface-energy materials and hierarchical topography. Herein, a water-responsive self-repairing superomniphobic film is reported by utilizing cross-linked hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) composited with silica (SiO2) nanoparticles (HPC-SiO2) that is treated with a low-surface-energy perfluorosilane. The film can repair physical damage (e.g., a scratch) in approximately 10 s by regenerating its hierarchical topography and low-surface-energy material upon the application of water vapor. The repaired region shows an almost complete recovery of its inherent superomniphobic wettability and mechanical hardness. The repairing process is driven by the reversible hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl (-OH) groups which can be dissociated upon exposure to water vapor. This results in a viscous flow of the HPC-SiO2 film into the damaged region. A mathematical model composed of viscosity and surface tension of the HPC-SiO2 film can describe the experimentally measured viscous flow with reasonable accuracy. Finally, we demonstrate that the superomniphobic HPC-SiO2 film can repair physical damage by a water droplet pinned on a damaged area or by sequential rolling water droplets.

Abstract
Smart slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) have aroused remarkable attention owing to tremendous application foreground in biomedical instruments and industry. However, challenges still remain in fabricating durable SLIPSs. In this work, a fast and highly efficient self-repairing slippery surface (SPU-60M) was fabricated based on a polyurethane membrane and silicone oil. By introducing a great quantity of reversible disulfide bonds into the polymer backbone and hydrogen bonds in the polymer interchain, this SLIPS material could be quickly repaired in 15 min with 97.8% healing efficiency. Moreover, the self-healing efficiency could be maintained at 42.75% after the 10th cutting-healing cycle. Notably, SPU-60M showed excellent self-repairing ability not only in an ambient environment but also in an underwater environment and at ultralow temperatures. Besides, the icing delay time (DT) of SPU-60M could be prolonged to 1182 s at -15 °C, and the ice adhesion strength was only 10.33 kPa at -30 °C. In addition, SPU-60M had excellent anti-fouling performance with BSA adsorption of 2.41 μg/cm2 and Escherichia coli CFU counts of 41 × 104. These findings provide a facile way to design highly efficient self-repairing SLIPSs with multifunctionality.

Abstract
The inferior mechanical properties and the difficulty in repairing damaged substrates and lubricant films of slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces significantly hampered their practical applications. To solve this problem, we fabricated a polysiloxane-polyurea slippery elastomer with lubricant self-replenishing and matrix self-healing properties by encapsulating silicone oil into the thermoplastic elastomers. By optimizing the chemical compositions and molecular interactions, the obtained slippery elastomer exhibits unique mechanical properties with a maximum breaking strength of 0.12 MPa, elongation of 1600%, and self-healing efficiency of 98%. Moreover, the lubricant stored in the capsule of the slippery elastomer can be controlled released under mechanical stimulation, further realizing surfaces' self-lubricating and liquid manipulation switching between slippery and pinning states. Furthermore, the textile-reinforced slippery elastomer with superior mechanical strength also exhibited liquid repellency, anti-biofouling, and drag reduction properties. Therefore, this textile-reinforced omniphobic surface with high mechanical property, matrix self-healing, and lubricant self-replenishing property shows a broad application prospect in surface protection, underwater antifouling, and drag reduction.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to discuss the best coating technology of water-based coatings containing microcapsules, and the anti-aging and self-repairing properties of water-based coatings containing microcapsules. Urea-formaldehyde encapsulated Nippon water-based emulsion microcapsules were prepared, and water-based coatings containing microcapsules were prepared. The optical and mechanical properties of the coatings under different coating technologies were investigated. Under the best coating technology, the aging resistance and self-repairing performance of the coating film were investigated. Experimental results showed that coating technology had no effect on color aberration of the coating film. The coating technology with two coats of primer, three coats of topcoat, addition of microcapsules into primer, had excellent glossiness, shock resistance of 12.0 kg·cm, adhesion of 0 grade, and fracture elongation of 26.3%. Compared with the coating film without microcapsules, the coating with microcapsules had better aging resistance and self-repairing property, and the self-repairing rate was about 20.0%. Compared with the paint film with Dulux water-based emulsion microcapsules, the paint film with Nippon water-based emulsion microcapsules had a higher self-repairing rate. This study provides a technical basis for self-repairing water-based coatings.

Abstract
Anti-fouling coatings are of great interest because of their unique wettability and self-cleaning property, but their widespread applications are seriously hindered by low stability, heavy usage of fluorinated compounds and low transparency, etc. Here, we report a new kind of smooth anti-fouling coatings based on methyltrimethoxysilane. The coatings were fabricated by preparing a stock solution via hydrolytic condensation of methyltrimethoxysilane in isopropanol, followed by wiping the glass slide with the non-woven fabric that sucked the stock solution. The transparent anti-fouling coatings have excellent anti-fouling properties against various fluids such as water, n-hexadecane, diiodomethane, daily encountered liquids (e.g., milk, coffee, red wine, soy sauce and cooking oil), mark seals, artificial fingerprint liquids and paints (both water-based and oil-based), etc. The fluids can easily roll off from the 4-30° titled coatings. Furthermore, the coatings have good mechanical (200 cycles of friction, scratching and bending), chemical (saline, acidic and basic solutions) and thermal stability (boiling and 300 °C heating) regarding the easy sliding behavior of the probing liquids. In addition, the anti-fouling coatings are applicable onto various substrates via the same procedure. The smooth anti-fouling coatings have huge potential applications, owing to the excellent anti-fouling properties, high stability as well as the non-fluorinated and simple preparation method.

Abstract
In this work, polyurethane/fluorinated acrylic co-polymer/silicon dioxide (PU/FAP/SiO2) hybrid superhydrophobic coatings were fabricated on glass substrates via a simple one-step coating process. The effects of each coating component on the coating properties were systematically investigated. The optimized coating exhibits a water contact angle (WCA) of 159° and a rolling angle of 3°. Meanwhile, the coating has an optical light transmittance of 88%, indicating the good transparency of the coating. Besides, the coating demonstrates an adequate level of abrasion resistance. After a total abrasion distance of 300 cm against a piece of 800 mesh sand paper, the sample still kept a water contact angle of about 110°, showing its high abrasion resistance. Therefore, the optimized coating has a great potential for practical application.

Abstract
Graphene oxide (GO) is expected to be used in the field of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) anti-corrosive coatings due to its excellent barrier property, but the poor dispersibility of GO limits its application. The hydrophilic modification of GO, although improving its dispersity, will greatly reduce its anti-corrosive property. Here, a new method is provided to avoid seeking an appropriate modifier blindly. Via the interaction between the epoxy group and amine group, the aminated GO (NGO) can be modified by (3-glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (KH560) functionalized-silica (f-SiO2) nanoparticles, while the f-SiO2 is affected by KH560 due to its relatively hydrophobic alkyl side chain. Consequently, the hydrophobicity of the f-SiO2 modified NGO (f-SGO) can be regulated just by adjusting the amount of KH560, thereby achieving the balance of excellent dispersibility and anti-corrosive performance of the f-SGO nanosheets in the WPU. The electrochemical impedance and potentiodynamic polarization results showed that the anti-corrosive performance of the WPU hybrid was greatly improved by adding the appropriate amount of f-SGO. This research provides a new idea for GO application in waterborne coatings.

Abstract
Materials for biodevices and bioimplants commonly suffer from unwanted but unavoidable biofouling problems due to the nonspecific adhesion of proteins, cells, or bacteria. Chemical coating or physical strategies for reducing biofouling have been pursued, yet highly robust antibiofouling surfaces that can persistently resist contamination in biological environments are still lacking. In this study, we developed a facile method to fabricate a highly robust slippery and antibiofouling surface by conjugating a liquid-like polymer layer to a substrate. This slippery liquid-attached (SLA) surface was created via a one-step equilibration reaction by tethering methoxy-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS-OCH3) polymer brushes onto a substrate to form a transparent "liquid-like" layer. The SLA surface exhibited excellent sliding behaviors toward a wide range of liquids and small particles and antibiofouling properties against the long-term adhesion of small biomolecules, proteins, cells, and bacteria. Moreover, in contrast to superomniphobic surfaces and liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) requiring micro/nanostructures, the SLA layer could be obtained on smooth surfaces and maintain its biofouling resistance under abrasion with persistent stability. Our study offers a simple method to functionalize surfaces with robust slippery and antibiofouling properties, which is promising for potential applications including medical implants and biodevices.

Abstract
In this work, a novel anti-smudge coating system was developed by using hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polyester as a coating precursor, mono-hydroxyl-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) as an anti-smudge agent, and hexamethylene diisocyanate trimer as a curing agent. The resultant coatings with 0.5 wt % PDMS content incorporated are highly transparent and liquid repellent. They exhibit striking repellency against various liquids and display remarkable self-cleaning performance. Water, hexadecane, salt solution, strong alkali solution, strong acid solution, pump oil, and crude oil could slide off the coated surface without leaving any traces, and the dirt on the coated surface could be readily removed by water or oil. Besides, these coatings show potential application for anti-fingerprint and anti-graffiti due to the exceptional repellency of coated surface against artificial fingerprint liquid, oil-based ink, paint, and water-based smudge. Furthermore, they also possess superb chemical shielding ability and thus endow substrates with remarkable protection against exposure to harsh chemical conditions. Moreover, these coatings are mechanically robust against extensive abrasion, impact, and bending without compromising anti-smudge properties, and they also exhibit excellent adhesion to various substrates. Therefore, these newly developed coatings have tremendous potential for widespread applications.
