Abstract
Bacillus anthracis is a Gram-positive bacterium that can cause acute infection and anthracnose, which is a serious concern for human health. Determining Bacillus anthracis through its spore biomarker dipicolinic acid (DPA) is crucial, and there is a strong need for a method that is rapid, sensitive, and selective. Here, we created Eu(III)-coordination polymers (Eu-CPs) with surfaces that have abundant carboxyl and hydroxyl groups. This was achieved by using citric acid and europium nitrate hexahydrate as precursors in a straightforward one-pot hydrothermal process. These Eu-CPs were then successfully utilized for highly sensitive DPA determination. The fluorescence (FL) emission of Eu-CPs, which is typically weak due to the coordination of Eu(III) with water molecules, was significantly enhanced in the presence of DPA. This enhancement is attributed to the competitive binding between DPA's carboxyl or hydroxyl groups and water molecules. As a result, the absorbed energy of DPA, when excited by 280 nm ultraviolet light, is transferred to Eu-CPs through an antenna effect. This leads to the emission of the characteristic red fluorescence of Eu3+ at 618 nm. A strong linear relationship was observed between the enhanced FL intensity and DPA concentration in the range of 0.5-80 μM. This relationship allowed for a limit of detection (LOD) of 15.23 nM. Furthermore, the Eu-CPs we constructed can effectively monitor the release of DPA from Bacillus subtilis spores, thereby further demonstrating the potential significance of this strategy in the monitoring and management of anthrax risk. This highlights the novelty of this approach in practical applications, provides a valuable determination technique for Bacillus anthracis, and offers insights into the development cycle of microorganisms.

Abstract
2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (DPA) is a significant biomarker of anthrax, which is a deadly infectious disease for human beings. However, the development of a convenient anthrax detection method is still a challenge. Herein, we report a novel europium metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF) with an enhanced peroxidase-like activity and fluorescence property for DPA detection. The Eu-MOF was one-step synthesized using Eu3+ ions and 2-methylimidazole. In the presence of DPA, the intrinsic fluorescence of Eu3+ ions is sensitized, the fluorescence intensity linearly increases with an increase in DPA concentration, and the fluorescence color changes from blue to purple. Simultaneously, the peroxide-like activity of the Eu-MOF is enhanced by DPA, which can promote the oxidation of TMB to oxTMB. The absorbance values increase linearly with DPA concentrations, and the colorimetric images change from colorless to blue. The dual-mode detection of DPA has good sensitivity with a colorimetric detection limit of 0.67 μM and a fluorescent detection limit of 16.67 nM. Moreover, a simple detection method for DPA was developed using a smartphone with the RGB analysis system. A portable kit with standard color cards was developed using paper test strips. The proposed methods have good practicability for DPA detection in real samples. In conclusion, the developed Eu-MOF biosensor offers a valuable and general platform for anthrax diagnosis.

Abstract
A novel dual-emission fluorescent nanoprobe based on rare-earth nanosheets was fabricated to detect 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid (DPA), which is the biomarker of Bacillus anthracis. 2-amino terephthalic acid (BDC-NH2) and surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were co-intercalated into layered europium hydroxide (LEuH) to prepare the organic/inorganic composite, which was delaminated to obtain the rare-earth nanosheets. The ratio detection of DPA is possible due to the antenna effect between DPA and Eu3+. The nanoprobe shows high accuracy and sensitivity due to the large specific surface area of the rare-earth nanosheets. The limit of detection (LOD) is 4.4 nM for DPA in the range of 0-20 μM. In addition, a more convenient and faster smartphone-based visual detection platform was established based on the obvious color change. This work offers an effective way for developing visual sensing platforms, which opens a new path for designing fluorescent probes with superior sensing capabilities.

Abstract
In this study, a nanoscale Zr-based metal-organic framework (nano-Zr-MOF) was prepared by one-pot method using meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin as organic ligand and Zr4+ as metal unit. The nanoscale structure endows it with excellent dispersion in water. The nano-Zr-MOF exhibited intense red fluorescence, which could be significantly quenched by the addition of quercetin, probably due to its electron-rich framework. The high selectivity for quercetin detection was verified with analogues and common ions as interfering agents. Moreover, the nano-Zr-MOF could be used as a highly selective and sensitive sensor for the detection of Hg2+. The detection limits for quercetin and Hg2+ were 0.026 μM and 0.039 μM, respectively. This fluorometric method was successfully applied to detect quercetin in red wine and food samples with satisfactory recoveries ranging from 83.7-112.3% and 81.8-115.9%, respectively. The recovery in detection of Hg2+ in lake water were ranging from 97.1-109.2%.

Abstract
In this study, a rare-earth hybrid luminescent material (lanthanide@COF) was constructed for the detection of a biomarker for anthrax (dipicolinic acid, DPA). JCU-505-COOH was prepared by the hydrolysis of the cyano group in JCU-505 via a post-synthetic modification strategy, then the carboxyl groups in JCU-505-COOH coordinated with Tb3+ ions, similar to pincer vising nut. The prepared Tb3+@JCU-505-COOH exhibited a turn-on response toward DPA, which allowed the lanthanide@COF to serve as a fluorescence sensor with excellent selectivity and high sensitivity (binding constant Ka = 3.66 × 103). The fluorescent probe showed satisfactory performance for the determination of DPA in saliva and urine with a detection limit of 0.6 μM. Moreover, we established a facile point-of-care testing (POCT) using the Tb3+@JCU-505-COOH-based fluorescent test paper together with a smartphone for the initial diagnosis of anthrax. As expected, Tb3+@JCU-505-COOH showed great potential for the rapid screening of anthrax due to low cost, simple operation, and wide applicability.

Abstract
Development of the portable device is significant for sensitive and rapid detection of an anthrax biomarker dipicolinic acid (DPA), existing in the B. anthracis. In this work, a novel HAp:Tb-EDTA paper-based ratiometric fluorescent sensor was obtained by a simple one-pot method for rapid and sensitive DPA detection. With the increased DPA concentration, the luminescence intensity of HAp (hydroxyapatite) remained constant, and thus applied as the stable reference signal, while the luminescence signal of Tb3+-EDTA was significantly enhanced due to the antenna effect. Therefore, the HAp:Tb-EDTA paper-based sensor was endowed with self-calibrated and ratiometric fluorescent detection performance for DPA. The proposed sensor showed excellent detection performance with a detection limit as low as 10.8 nM in the linear range of 0.5-30 μM. After combination with a smartphone, rapid visual and fluorescent detection of DPA was achieved. The proposed sensor was successfully applied to detect DPA from B. subtilis spore real samples, showing the application prospects of the paper-based sensors and opening a new horizon to develop novel paper-based point-of-care testing (POCT) devices.

Abstract
Given the significant interactions between hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and cysteine (Cys) in organisms, a dual-site multi-purpose fluorescent probe (Cy-NP) for H2S and Cys was synthesized. Cy-NP is composed of two fluorophores: naphthalimide that emits in the visible region of 500-600 nm, and cyanine dye that emits in the NIR region of 700-800 nm. Cy-NP showed admirable sensitivity and selectivity for identifying H2S and Cys by fluorescent signals with limits of detection as low as 0.15 μM and 1.4 μM, respectively. Furthermore, other biological thiols (especially GSH and Hcy) showed no positive response to Cy-NP compared with H2S and Cys. The chemical mechanism of Cy-NP with H2S and Cys in DMF/PBS (1/1, v/v, pH = 7.4) solution was verified by HRMS and DFT calculations. Further, Cy-NP was successfully applied to monitor H2S released in raw meat and adapted to detect H2S and Cys in MCF-7 cells independently and continuously.

Abstract
Among the catecholamines, dopamine (DA) is essential in regulating multiple aspects of the central nervous system. The level of dopamine in the brain correlates with neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease (PD). However, dopamine is unable to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Therefore, levodopa (LD) is used to restore normal dopamine levels in the brain by crossing the BBB. Thus, the control of LD and DA levels is critical for PD diagnosis. For this purpose, LiSr0.0985VO4:0.015Eu3+ (LSV:0.015Eu3+) nanoplates were synthesized by the microwave-assisted co-precipitation method, and have been employed as an optical sensor for the sensitive and selective detection of catecholamines. The synthesized LSV:0.015Eu3+ nanoplates emitted red fluorescence with a high quantum yield (QY) of 48%. By increasing the LD and DA concentrations, the fluorescence intensity of LSV:0.015Eu3+ nanoplates gradually decreased. Under optimal conditions, the linear dynamic ranges were 1-40 μM (R2 = 0.9972) and 2-50 μM (R2 = 0.9976), and the detection limits (LOD) were 279 nM, and 390 nM for LD and DA, respectively. Herein, an instrument-free, rapid quantification visual assay was developed using a paper-based analytical device (PAD) with LSV:0.015Eu3+ fixed on the bacterial cellulose nanopaper (LEBN) to determine LD and DA concentrations with ease of operation and low cost. A smartphone was coupled with the PAD device to quantitatively analyze the fluorescence intensity changes of LSV:0.015Eu3+ using the color recognizer application (APP). In addition, the LSV:0.015Eu3+ nanosensor showed acceptable repeatability and was used to analyze real human urine, blood serum, and tap water samples with a recovery of 96-107%.

Abstract
Developing a novel strategy for the sensitive and rapid detection of pathogenic bacterial spores in field or on-site settings will be helpful in minimizing their potential threats to human health, environmental safety, and food safety. In this study, Tb3+ was combined with glutathione (GSH)-modified copper nanoclusters (CuNCs), and an aggregation-induced emission (AIE) fluorescent probe based on Tb-GSH-CuNCs was fabricated for dipicolinic acid (DPA, a pathogenic bacterial spore marker) sensing. Making use of the competitive binding of Tb3+ between GSH-CuNCs and DPA, a multicolor sensing of DPA was facilely realized without introducing fluorescent materials as the reference. Due to an "off-on" response mechanism of the AIE fluorescent probe, this multicolor response to DPA exhibited a feature of rich color gradients and highly discriminative color change, allowing a dosage-sensitive visual quantification of DPA. The DPA with a concentration even as low as 0.5 μM can still be identified by the naked eye. Moreover, together with a smartphone app, which can extract the R (red), G (green), and B (blue) values from the probe system, a portable platform can be established for sensitive DPA quantification in the range of 0.5-70 μM, showing great potential for the practical monitoring of DPA in field or on-site settings.

Abstract
This work designed a fluorometric/colorimetric dual-mode sensor for detecting 2,6-dipicolinic acid (DPA) based on the blue emission property and peroxidase-like activity of Fe-MIL-88NH2. The fluorescence of Fe-MIL-88NH2 was obviously turned off by Cu2+, but DPA was able to bring it back because it has a strong chelate bond with Cu2+. Fe-MIL-88NH2 also displayed high peroxidase-like activity, which accelerated the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to the blue oxidation product (oxTMB) when H2O2 was present. When DPA was added, it efficiently inhibited the peroxidase-like activity of Fe-MIL-88NH2, causing less oxTMB and less absorbance at 652 nm. The fluorescence recovery of Fe-MIL-88NH2 and the change in absorbance at 652 nm were used as analytical signals for dual-mode detection of DPA. The linear responses in the range of 10-60 μM and 60-160 μM were achieved for the fluorometric mode, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 1.46 μM. The respective values of linear range and LOD for the colorimetric mode were 5-25 μM and 3.00 μM, respectively. In summary, the dual-mode testing strategy successfully detected DPA in aqueous environmental samples, suggesting great potential in disease prevention and environmental analysis.

Abstract
A novel multicolor fluorescent nano-probe based on the hybridization of Tb3+ ion with gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) was synthesized to monitor and on-site visual assay of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (DPA), a biomarker of bacterial spores. DPA can replace the water molecule in the center of Tb3+ and strongly coordinate with Tb3+ based on the analyte-triggered antenna effect. Simultaneously, the red fluorescence of Au NCs is not influenced after addition of DPA and can be used as steady inside fluorescence reference channel to measure background noise. On this basis, the multicolor fluorescence nano-probe based on Tb3+-doped Au NCs for fast analysis of DPA was fabricated. The linear range of this method is 0 to 12.5 μM and the limit of detection is 3.4 nM, which is well below the quantity of DPA concentration of 60 μM released by the spore transmission dose of anthrax infection. The proposed multicolor fluorescence nano-probe was successfully detecting DPA in actual sample with good sensitivity and specificity. In addition, the visual paper-based nano-probe is designed to detect DPA by using the color scanning application of smart phone. This developed platform possesses abroad application prospects with advantages of effective, convenient carrying, simple operation, good selectivity and repeatability.

Abstract
Lanthanide ion probes have recently been considered as promising sensing materials due to their high sensitivity and good optical properties. Herein, the 3D hierarchical lanthanide functionalized layered double hydroxides microcapsules were synthesized via a facile ion exchange strategy and further developed as novel fluorescent probes for detecting trace amounts of the anthrax biomarker dipicolinicacid (DPA). Benefiting from the 3D porous superstructure and abundant unsaturated coordination sites of lanthanide ion, the ternary Ni-Fe-Ln-LDHs (Ln = Tb/Eu) not only possess a large reactive contact area to improve the sensitivity of DPA detection, but also demonstrate very fast reaction rate. The design of inexpensive fluorescent test strips can perform the on-site and real-time detection via a smartphone with a color recognition application. More prominently, the sensitivity of the system was evaluated by actual spore samples with the detection limit as low as 3.54 × 104 spores/mL. The 3D lanthanide functionalized LDHs nanoprobe constructed by ion exchange exhibits a new vision for the development of a sensing platform in other research areas.

Abstract
The sensitive detection of dipicolinic acid (DPA) as an excellent biomarker of Bacillus anthracis, especially through visual point-of-care testing, is significant for accurate and rapid diagnosis of anthrax to timely prevent anthrax disease or biological terrorist attack. Herein, an acoustofluidics-based colorimetric platform with the integrated ratiometric fluorescence probe (INT-probe) was fabricated, which improved the sensitivity of visual detection for DPA and overcame the poor reproducibility of the existing acoustofluidics-assisted colorimetric analysis. For the design of INT-probe, Eu3+-EDTA complex as sensing moiety was grafted onto the surface of blue organosilane-functionalized carbon dots (SiCDs)-doped SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs). Upon exposure to DPA, Eu3+ was sensitized by DPA to emit red luminescence, while the SiCDs as reference inside the SiO2 NPs still kept the blue fluorescence unchanged. Attributed to the acoustic radiation force-driven enrichment of the INT-probe, slight color changes caused by low concentration of DPA could be amplified and distinguished by naked-eyes/smartphone. With the increase of DPA concentration, obvious color variations of INT-probe/DPA aggregates from blue to pink could be observed, and the color information of the fluorescent aggregates was converted to red, green and blue values for quantitative analysis, whose lowest detectable concentration reached 100 nM that is about 2-3 orders of magnitude lower than the infectious dosage of Bacillus anthracis spores (60 μM). Importantly, benefiting from the great color signal enhancement by acoustofluidic sensing platform, the usage of Eu3+ reduced to as low as 0.273 μmol per gram of SiO2 NPs, providing a meaningful way to utilize lanthanide resource efficiently.

Abstract
The world is currently facing an adverse condition due to the pandemic of airborne pathogen SARS-CoV-2. Prevention is better than cure; thus, the rapid detection of airborne pathogens is necessary because it can reduce outbreaks and save many lives. Considering the immense role of diverse detection techniques for airborne pathogens, proper summarization of these techniques would be beneficial for humans. Hence, this review explores and summarizes emerging techniques, such as optical and electrochemical biosensors used for detecting airborne bacteria (Bacillus anthracis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae) and viruses (Influenza A, Avian influenza, Norovirus, and SARS-CoV-2). Significantly, the first section briefly focuses on various diagnostic modalities applied toward airborne pathogen detection. Next, the fabricated optical biosensors using various transducer materials involved in colorimetric and fluorescence strategies for infectious pathogen detection are extensively discussed. The third section is well documented based on electrochemical biosensors for airborne pathogen detection by differential pulse voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, square-wave voltammetry, amperometry, and impedance spectroscopy. The unique pros and cons of these modalities and their future perspectives are addressed in the fourth and fifth sections. Overall, this review inspected 171 research articles published in the last decade and persuaded the importance of optical and electrochemical biosensors for airborne pathogen detection.

Abstract
It was the first time to report the aggregation induced emission (AIE) of acetaldehyde (AA) on the surface of carbonized polymer dots (CPDs) with the auxiliary of Tb3+. Based on the AIE of AA, a turn-off-on fluorescence method was established for AA detection using the porous CPDs-Tb3+ system. The one-pot hydrothermal method was used to obtain CPDs, using milk and polyethyleneimine (PEI) as precursors. In the presence of Tb3+, CPDs aggregated immediately and even forming precipitate, and the fluorescence intensity decreased obviously. AA can effectively embed on the surface of CPDs-Tb3+ due to the porous structure. AA displayed obviously blue fluorescence with excitation wavelength at 370 nm (emission peak at 460 nm), while there was no fluorescence peak when excited at 460 nm. In the CPDs-Tb3+ solution, AA exhibits obvious fluorescence enhancement effect (λex 460 nm, λem 545 nm). And then, AA can be determined by the turn-off-on system based on the linear relationship between fluorescence enhancement and the concentration of AA ranging from 0.04 mM to 42.48 mM. The limit of detection (LOD) was 0.02 mM. The turn-off-on system was successfully applied to determine AA in wine samples. The strategy may be exploited to monitor AA in more drinking or foodstuff samples.

Abstract
Dipicolinic acid (DPA) is an anthrax biomarker. Its serious consequences make its detection a great need. In this paper, three novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different coordination modes were synthesized by a simple solvothermal method, which can be used as highly efficient fluorescence sensors for the highly selective and sensitive trace detection of DPA. MOFs 1-3 showed rapid responses to DPA (<30 s), and the limits of detection (LODs) were calculated to be 1.01 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 1), 1.17 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 2) and 2.07 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 3). DPA detection based on MOFs 1-3 in fetal bovine serum is highly reliable based on the high recovery rates (90% to 115%). Hence, the three MOF-based sensors can be used in the real-time detection of DPA.

Abstract
A series of neutral mononuclear lanthanide complexes [Ln(HL)2(NO3)3] (Ln = La, Ce, Nd, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho) with rigid bidentate ligand, HL (4'-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid) were synthesized under solvothermal conditions. The coordination compounds have been characterized by infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, powder X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis. According to X-ray diffraction, all the complexes are a series of isostructural compounds crystallized in the P2/n monoclinic space group. Additionally, solid-state luminescence measurements of all complexes show that [Eu(HL)2(NO3)3] complex displays the characteristic emission peaks of Eu(III) ion at 593, 597, 615, and 651 nm.

Abstract
Coordination polymers have been extensively studied in recent years. Some of these materials can exhibit several properties such as permanent porosity, high surface area, thermostability and light emission, as well as open sites for chemical functionalization. Concerning the fact that this kind of compounds are usually solids, the size and morphology of the particles are important parameters when an application is desired. Inside this context, there is a subclass of coordination polymers, named infinite coordination polymers (ICPs), which auto-organize as micro- or nanoparticles with low crystallinity. Specifically, the particles exhibiting spherical shapes and reduced sizes can be better dispersed, enter cells much easier than bulk crystals and be converted to inorganic materials by topotactic transformation. Luminescent ICPs, in particular, can find applications in several areas, such as sensing probes, light-emitting devices and bioimaging. In this review, we present the state-of-the-art of ICP-based spherical particles, including the growth mechanisms, some applications for luminescent ICPs and the challenges to overcome in future commercial usage of these materials.

Abstract
The sensitive and selective determination of Bacillus anthracis spores before the infection is vital for human health and safety. Dipicolinic acid (DPA) is an excellent biomarker due to its presence in the nucleus of bacterial spores at high concentrations (up to 1 M, about 15% dry weight). In the present work, a new molecular chemosensor 1, based on europium(III)-DO3A and BODIPY dyad, is developed to detect DPA in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) buffered solution and tap water samples. Also, 1 can be used as a ratiometric optical chemosensor to track DPA.

Abstract
In the present work, a structure-dependent ratiometric fluorescence (RF) sensor constructed with boric acid-modified carbon quantum dots (B-CQDs) and Tb-MOF(MOF-76) was developed for sensing 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (DPA). Based on the distinct fluorescent responses of B-CQDs and MOF-76 to DPA, MOF-76/B-CQDs can be developed as a RF sensor for DPA detection. In this RF sensor, the reticulated cross-linked structure of MOF-76/B-CQDs can be destroyed by DPA due to a strong coordination effect between DPA and the Tb of MOF-76, resulting in the quenching of the fluorescence of B-CQD and the restoration of the fluorescence of MOF-76 after the addition of DPA. Benefiting from the confinement effect of the special structure change, the presented sensor showed high sensitivity toward DPA with a detection limit of 3.05 μM and excellent selectivity over the monochromatic fluorescence sensor.

Abstract
Anthrax is a bioterror agent because of its toxicity and the tolerance of its bacterial spores. Thus, researchers have attempted to develop various nanomaterials to detect dipicolinic acid (DPA), a biomarker of bacterial spores. Nanomaterials containing lanthanide ions have received considerable attention, owing to their potential to exhibit high sensitivity and selectivity in the detection of DPA via chelation with molecules. However, the fluorescent signals of the lanthanide complex are quenchable because the nanomaterials simultaneously absorb the excitation and emission light. For the precise detection of DPA, pure signals have to be obtained from the complex by alleviating the quenching effect of the nanomaterials. In this study, we develop a structure with terbium ion (Tb3+)-coordinated magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticle to detect DPA. Tb3+ can be detached from the magnetite during chelation with the DPA, and the complex can emit the unencumbered signals with improved detection limit through the application of a magnetic field. The detection system exhibits a significantly lower detection limit (5.4 nM) than the infectious dosage of anthrax (60 μM) with high selectivity and chemical stability. This study informs the improvement of detection limits via the separation of nanomaterials and lanthanide complex.

Abstract
Detection of anthrax biomarker dipicolinic acid (DPA) is of great importance upon the crisis of bioterrorism. Development of fluorescent materials for DPA detection, particularly one that fully depends on single luminescent response, faces the challenge of being susceptible to interferences. The accompanying accuracy problems offer great opportunities for the establishment of more reliable ratiometric analysis method. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescent probe based on terbium functionalized graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (Tb-g-C3N4NS) is attempted for quantitative detection of DPA to address the distinct function of g-C3N4NS as both carrier and reference fluorophore, which is a so-far unexplored option in fluorescent detection approaches. We achieve the incorporation of Tb3+ into framework of g-C3N4NS by using a simple synthetic strategy comprised of thermal pyrolysis and ultrasonic exfoliation. Combining the reference signal over g-C3N4NS at 440 nm (I440) with the response signal of Tb3+ at 546 nm (I546), concentration of DPA can be easily calculated via its linear correlation with the intensity ratio (I546/I440), giving a precise measurement towards DPA with a detection limit as low as 9.9 nM. Besides enabling an excellent self-calibrating detection of DPA, this work also inspires broader use of g-C3N4NS for relevant process.

Abstract
As the core of polymer chemistry, manufacture of functional polymers is one of research hotspots over the past several decades. Various polymers are developed for diverse applications due to their tunable structures and unique properties. However, traditional step-by-step preparation strategies inevitably involve some problems, such as separation, purification, and time-consuming. The multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are emerging as environmentally benign synthetic strategies to construct multifunctional polymers or composites with pendant groups and designed structures because of their features, such as efficient, fast, green, and atom economy. This mini review summarizes the latest advances about fabrication of multifunctional fluorescent polymers or adsorptive polymeric composites through different MCRs, including Kabachnik-Fields reaction, Biginelli reaction, mercaptoacetic acid locking imine reaction, Debus-Radziszewski reaction, and Mannich reaction. The potential applications of these polymeric composites in biomedical and environmental remediation are also highlighted. It is expected that this mini-review will promote the development preparation and applications of functional polymers through MCRs.

Abstract
The spores of Bacillus anthracis are highly deadly to human beings and animals, and are concurrently potential biological warfare agents. Hence, the rapid and sensitive monitoring Bacillus anthracis biomarker, dipicolinic acid (DPA), is very desirable. Herein, orange/green dual-emissive carbon dots (OG-CDs) were synthesized via the hydrothermal approach. The OG-CDs not only emitted dual fluorescence at 527 and 590 nm under the single 503 nm excitation, but also exhibited excellent water solubility, good photostability and great salt tolerance. The fluorescence of the OG-CDs at 527 nm can be completely quenched when chelated with Cu(II). However, because of the stronger chelation between DPA and Cu(II), the fluorescence restored rapidly on subsequent addition of DPA. As such, the CD-Cu(II) system can be used for determination of DPA based on the fluorescence "off-on" response. Under optimum conditions, the detection limit for DPA was 56 nM, with a linear range of 0.5-12.5 μM. The established CD-Cu(II) based spectrofluorometric method has been applied to the analysis of DPA in real water samples with recoveries of 93.6%-104.3%. More remarkably, the CD-Cu(II) probe also has been successfully applied for the imaging of DPA in Escherichia coli with excellent bio-compatibility.

Abstract
In this study, a novel lanthanide-doped nanoprobe for monitoring dipicolinic acid (DPA), a unique biomarker of Bacillus anthracis, was constructed by coordination of Tb3+ with l-histidine (His) functionalized ZIF-8 (His@ZIF-8). After being functionalized with His, the resultant His@ZIF-8 had abundant carboxyl and amino groups, which like tongs help His@ZIF-8 "grasp" Tb3+ firmly to form a stable lanthanide-doped nanoparticle (His@ZIF-8/Tb3+). Owing to the unsaturated coordination of Tb3+ with the amino acid group, the resultant His@ZIF-8/Tb3+ showed reserved response sites of Tb3+ to DPA because of its unique molecular structure. After the His@ZIF-8/Tb3+ coordination with DPA, the intrinsic fluorescence emission of the Tb3+ ions was triggered through energy transfer, leading to bright yellow green luminescence owing to the antenna role of DPA. Benefitting from the His functionalization and the characteristics of ZIF-8, especially the high porosity and large surface area, the developed His@ZIF-8/Tb3+ sensing platform exhibited attractive features as a fluorescent sensor for monitoring DPA such as fast response kinetics (10 s), high sensitivity and selectivity, and being portable, easy to operate, economical and secure. This sensor platform showed a satisfactory linear relationship (R 2 = 0.999) ranging from 0.08 to 10 μmol L-1 and an ultralow limit of detection (LOD) of 0.02 μmol L-1. This strategy for the design of functionalized MOFs to construct sensing probes and the resultant His@ZIF-8/Tb3+ would provide a potential strategy for the exploitation of other functionalized materials used in other research fields and promising fluorescence platforms for the detection of other targets.

Abstract
Lanthanide-based fluorescence sensor in the detection of major Anthrax biomarker dipicolinic acid (DPA) is attracting wide attention. In this work, we proposed a new strategy for ratiometric fluorescence detection of DPA based on microporous Ln/melamine-terephthaladehyde Schiff base networks (Ln/MTSNW) complex for the first time. The microporous MTSNW was prepared by amine-aldehyde condensation between melamine and terephthaladehyde and presented lamellar and octahedral structure. Lanthanide ions, Eu3+ or Tb3+ were coordinated with N atoms of MTSNW to form Ln/MTSNW complex. The microporous Ln/MTSNW complex not only provided large surface area to improve the sensitivity of DPA detection, but also constructed ratiometric fluorescence sensors to eliminate environmental effects and instrument fluctuation. DPA was a highly efficient antenna molecule for Eu3+ and Tb3+ and transferred the energy to Eu3+ or Tb3+ to sensitize their fluorescence. The Ln/MTSNW complex were uniformly and stably dispersed in aqueous solution for DPA detection with a linear range from 15 nM to 7 μM and low detection limit of 5.2 nM for Eu/MTSNW and a linear range from 4 nM to 2.5 μM and low detection limit of 1.4 nM for Tb/MTSNW. Due to the simple preparation of Ln/MTSNW complex and low technical requirement, the ratiometric fluorescence DPA sensor based on Ln/MTSNW complex might show great potential in practical applications.
