Abstract
Aldehyde deformylations occurring in organisms are catalyzed by metalloenzymes through metal-dioxygen active cores, attracting great interest to study small-molecule metal-dioxygen complexes for understanding relevant biological processes and developing biomimetic catalysts for aerobic transformations. As the known deformylation mechanisms, including nucleophilic attack, aldehyde α-H-atom abstraction, and aldehyde hydrogen atom abstraction, undergo outer-sphere pathways, we herein report a distinct inner-sphere mechanism based on density functional theory (DFT) mechanistic studies of aldehyde deformylations with a copper (II)-superoxo complex. The inner-sphere mechanism proceeds via a sequence mainly including aldehyde end-on coordination, homolytic aldehyde C-C bond cleavage, and dioxygen O-O bond cleavage, among which the C-C bond cleavage is the rate-determining step with a barrier substantially lower than those of outer-sphere pathways. The aldehyde C-C bond cleavage, enabled through the activation of the dioxygen ligand radical in a second-order nucleophilic substitution (SN2)-like fashion, leads to an alkyl radical and facilitates the subsequent dioxygen O-O bond cleavage. Furthermore, we deduced the rules for the reactions of metal-dioxygen complexes with aldehydes and nitriles via the inner-sphere mechanism. Expectedly, our proposed inner-sphere mechanisms and the reaction rules offer another perspective to understand relevant biological processes involving metal-dioxygen cores and to discover metal-dioxygen catalysts for aerobic transformations.

Abstract
Since the dawn of millennium, catalytic gold chemistry is at the forefront to set off diverse organic reactions via unique activation of π-bonded molecules. Within this purview, cycloisomerization of heteroatom nucleophiles linked to a π-system is one of the well recognized chemistry for the construction of numerous heterocyclic cores. Though the rudimentary aspects of this transformation are reviewed by several groups in different timeline, a holistic view on regiochemistry of such reactions went largely overlooked. Hence, this account emphasizes the gold catalyzed regioselective cycloisomerization of structurally distinctive π-connected hetero-nucleophiles leading to different heterocycles documented in the last two decades. From an application perspective, this account also highlights those methodologies which find a role in the total synthesis of natural products. Wherever appropriate, mechanistic details and contributing factors for selectivity are also discussed.

Abstract
A computational mechanistic study has been performed on Pd(II)-catalyzed enantioselective reactions involving acetyl-protected aminomethyl oxazolines (APAO) ligands that significantly improved reactivity and selectivity in C(sp3)-H borylation. The results support a mechanism including initiation of C(sp3)-H bond activation generating a five-membered palladacycle and ligand exchange, followed by HPO42--promoted transmetalation. These resulting Pd(II) complexes further undergo sequential reductive elimination by coordination of APAO ligands and protonation to afford the enantiomeric products and deliver Pd(0) complexes, which will then proceed by oxidation and deprotonation to regenerate the catalyst. The C(sp3)-H activation is found to be the rate- and enantioselectivity-determining step, in which the APAO ligand acts as the proton acceptor to form the two enantioselectivity models. The results demonstrate that the diverse APAO ligands control the enantioselectivity by differentiating the distortion and interaction between the major and minor pathways.

Abstract
N-functionalization of amines with CO2 and H2 is one of the most important processes to make use of CO2. Although noble metal-based catalysts with remarkable performance have been widely used in this process, developing efficient non-noble-metal-based catalysts remains a grand challenge. Herein, we report In2O3 nanocrystals with high density of grain boundaries (HGB-In2O3), which show excellent activity toward methylation of amines. Impressively, HGB-In2O3 achieved the optimal yield of 82.7% for N,N-dimethylaniline with a mass activity of 21.2 mmol·g-1h-1 in methylation of N-methylaniline, comparable to noble-metal-based catalysts. As a bonus, HGB-In2O3 held noticeable stability, remarkable selectivity, and comprehensive applicability. Further mechanistic studies revealed that the presence of high density of grain boundaries not only facilitated the adsorption and activation of CO2 to generate CH3OH as the intermediate but also enhanced the activation of N-H bond in amines, contributing to the attractive activity of HGB-In2O3 toward methylation of amines.

Abstract
Density functional theory calculations are carried out to explore the detail mechanisms of CO2 incorporation into propargylic amine catalyzed by Ag(I)/amine catalysts. Our calculations reveal that the whole reaction involves Lewis acid catalysis and Lewis base catalysis stages, and the outcomes of this reaction critically depend on the basicity of amine. A weaker base (i.e., DABCO) makes the Ag center more acidic, thus favoring the Lewis acid catalysis, resulting in benzoxazin-2-one. However, the following rearrangement of benzoxazin-2-one requires a stronger base (i.e., DBU) to stabilize its deprotonated form. Thus, the product selectivity could be subtly tuned by the choice of amine and the condition control, consistent with the experimental observations.

Abstract
Carbon dioxide (CO2 ), a well-known greenhouse gas, is also a nontoxic, readily accessible, and renewable one-carbon (C1) source. However, owing to its thermodynamic stability and kinetic inertness, the efficient utilization of CO2 is challenging. Much effort has been devoted to achieving efficient and selective organic transformations of CO2 . Recently, the synthesis of important oxazolidin-2-ones from unsaturated amines by using CO2 has attracted much attention and been heavily studied. This Focus Review presents recent advances in this area by using homogenous catalysis. The cyclization of amines that contain alkynes, alkenes, and allenes with CO2 is discussed, and possible reaction mechanisms and applications of these transformations are also described.

Abstract
The mechanism of the Ni0 -catalyzed reductive carboxylation reaction of C(sp2 )-O and C(sp3 )-O bonds in aromatic esters with CO2 to access valuable carboxylic acids was comprehensively studied by using DFT calculations. Computational results revealed that this transformation was composed of several key steps: C-O bond cleavage, reductive elimination, and/or CO2 insertion. Of these steps, C-O bond cleavage was found to be rate-determining, and it occurred through either oxidative addition to form a NiII intermediate, or a radical pathway that involved a bimetallic species to generate two NiI species through homolytic dissociation of the C-O bond. DFT calculations revealed that the oxidative addition step was preferred in the reductive carboxylation reactions of C(sp2 )-O and C(sp3 )-O bonds in substrates with extended π systems. In contrast, oxidative addition was highly disfavored when traceless directing groups were involved in the reductive coupling of substrates without extended π systems. In such cases, the presence of traceless directing groups allowed for docking of a second Ni0 catalyst, and the reactions proceed through a bimetallic radical pathway, rather than through concerted oxidative addition, to afford two NiI species both kinetically and thermodynamically. These theoretical mechanistic insights into the reductive carboxylation reactions of C-O bonds were also employed to investigate several experimentally observed phenomena, including ligand-dependent reactivity and site-selectivity.

Abstract
Propargylamines are a versatile class of compounds which find broad application in many fields of chemistry. This review aims to describe the different strategies developed so far for the synthesis of propargylamines and their derivatives as well as to highlight their reactivity and use as building blocks in the synthesis of chemically relevant organic compounds. In the first part of the review, the different synthetic approaches to synthesize propargylamines, such as A3 couplings and C-H functionalization of alkynes, have been described and organized on the basis of the catalysts employed in the syntheses. Both racemic and enantioselective approaches have been reported. In the second part, an overview of the transformations of propargylamines into heterocyclic compounds such as pyrroles, pyridines, thiazoles, and oxazoles, as well as other relevant organic derivatives, is presented.

Abstract
Incorporation of CO2 into heterocyclic compounds (i.e., 2-oxazolidinones) under mild conditions, especially at atmospheric pressure still remains challenging. The mononuclear ZnII complex ZnCl2 (TBD)2 , where TBD=1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene, in this study was demonstrated as a robust catalyst for the carboxylative cyclization of propargylic amines with CO2 to exclusively afford various 2-oxazolidinones in excellent yields. Notably, the ZnII catalytic species is readily generated in situ from ZnCl2 and TBD without pre-preparation and further isolation. Such a CO2 fixation protocol could proceed smoothly under atmospheric pressure at mild temperature in an atom economic and environmentally benign manner. 13 C NMR and control experiments were performed to explore the possible interaction between ZnII and the carbon-carbon triple bond of propargylic amine. The dual catalytic role of the Zn catalyst to enhance O-nucleophilicity of the carbamate anion intermediate and activate the carbon-carbon triple bond is proposed based on mechanistic investigations.

Abstract
Density functional theory calculations have been carried out to explore the detailed mechanisms for carbon dioxide incorporation of N-unsubstituted propargylic amine catalyzed by Ag(I) catalysts. We show that the reaction undergoes substrate adsorption or displacement, isomerization from amine-coordinated species to the alkyne-coordinated species, CO2 attack, and proton transfer, giving the carbamate intermediate. Subsequently, the reaction would bifurcate at the intermolecular ring-closing step, which produces five-membered ring (5MR) and six-membered ring (6MR) products at the same time, thus raising a regioselectivity issue. Our calculations reveal that the outcomes of the reaction critically depend on the coordination number and the basicity of the ligands. Higher coordinate number and stronger basicity of the ligands would stabilize the 5MR transition state over the 6MR counterpart. Such a preference can be rationalized by using transition state energy decomposition. All of these results could promote the rational design of noble metal/organic base combined catalysts with higher selectivity.
