Ultrathin Trimetal-Organic Framework Nanosheet Electrocatalysts for the Highly Efficient Oxygen Evolution Reaction

An ultrasensitive sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor based on rGO-TEPA/ZIF67@ZIF8/Au and AuPdRu for the detection of tumor markers CA72-4

Cancer antigen 72-4 (CA72-4) is an important marker of cancer detection, and accurate detection of CA72-4 is urgently required. Herein, a sandwich-type immunosensor was constructed for detection CA72-4 based on composite nanomaterial as the substrate material and trimetal nanoparticles as the nanoprobe. The composite nanomaterial rGO-TEPA/ZIF67@ZIF8/Au used as a selective bio-recognition element were modified on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface. Meanwhile, the electrochemical nanoprobes were fabricated through the AuPdRu trimeric metal. After the target antigen 72-4 were captured, the nanoprobes were further assembled to form an antibody1 (Ab1)- antigen-antibody2 (Ab2) nanoprobes sandwich-like system on the electrode surface. Then, hybrid the substrate material rGO-TEPA/ZIF67@ZIF8/Au and the AuPdRu trimeric metal nanoprobes efficiently catalyzed the reduction of H2O2 and amplified the electrochemical signals. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and Chronoamperometry (I-T) methods were used to characterize the performance and detection capabilities for CA72-4 of the prepared immunosensors. The results showed that the detection limit was 1.8 × 10-5 U/mL (S/N = 3), and the linear range was 0.001-1000 U/mL. This study provides a new signal amplification strategy for electrochemical sensors and a theoretical basis for the clinical application of immunosensor to detect other tumor markers.

Ultrarapid and Sustainable Synthesis of Trimetallic-Based MOF (CrNiFe-MOF) from Stainless Steel and Disodium Terephthalate-Derived PET Wastes

Designing easy and sustainable strategies for the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from organic and inorganic wastes with the efficient removal of phosphate from water remains a challenge. The majority of the reported works have utilized costly precursors and nonsoluble ligands for the synthesis of MOFs. Herein, we have developed a low-cost, simple, and sustainable alternative approach using the coprecipitation method in water at room temperature for the synthesis of a new adsorbent-based trimetallic MOF. Poly(ethylene terephthalate) and stainless steel wastes were used as sources of water-soluble disodium terephthalate ligand and three metallic species (chromium, nickel, and iron salts) for the fabrication of trimetallic MOF (CrNiFe-MOF), respectively. The newly developed MOF demonstrates a superior space-time yield of 5760 g m-3 day-1, reaching a level allowing the industrialization production of this sustainable MOF. The scanning electron microscopy and adsorption studies revealed that the developed trimetallic MOF consists of aggregated nanoparticles and the presence of defective as well as mesoporous structures. This MOF showed an enhanced adsorption capacity of phosphate from real eutrophic water samples and higher stability in a range of pHs. The density functional theory calculations evidenced that the phosphate ions preferentially adsorb over H2O toward the metal oxo-trimers, with the adsorption energies increasing from H3PO4 to PO43- species in line with an improvement of the adsorption performance of CrNiFe-MOF when the pH increases, i.e., when HPO42- and PO43- become more predominant. These calculations also supported that the incorporation of Cr metal sites in the oxo-trimer is expected to boost the phosphate affinity of the MOF. Finally, our work provides an easy and eco-friendly approach for MOF designing to enhance phosphate removal from water.

Tunable Non-Enzymatic Glucose Electrochemical Sensing Based on the Ni/Co Bimetallic MOFs

Constructing high-performance glucose sensors is of great significance for the prevention and diagnosis of diabetes, and the key is to develop new sensitive materials. In this paper, a series of Ni2Co1-L MOFs (L = H2BPDC: 4,4'-biphenyldicarboxylic acid; H2NDC: 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid; H2BDC: 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid) were synthesized by a room temperature stirring method. The effects of metal centers and ligands on the structure, compositions, electrochemical properties of the obtained Ni2Co1-L MOFs were characterized, indicating the successful preparation of layered MOFs with different sizes, stacking degrees, electrochemical active areas, numbers of exposed active sites, and glucose catalytic activity. Among them, Ni2Co1-BDC exhibits a relatively thin and homogeneous plate-like morphology, and the Ni2Co1-BDC modified glassy carbon electrode (Ni2Co1-BDC/GCE) has the highest electrochemical performance. Furthermore, the mechanism of the enhanced glucose oxidation signal was investigated. It was shown that glucose has a higher electron transfer capacity and a larger apparent catalytic rate constant on the Ni2Co1-BDC/GCE surface. Therefore, tunable non-enzymatic glucose electrochemical sensing was carried out by regulating the metal centers and ligands. As a result, a high-sensitivity enzyme-free glucose sensing platform was successfully constructed based on the Ni2Co1-BDC/GCE, which has a wide linear range of 0.5-2899.5 μM, a low detection limit of 0.29 μM (S/N = 3), and a high sensitivity of 3925.3 μA mM-1 cm-2. Much more importantly, it was also successfully applied to the determination of glucose in human serum with satisfactory results, demonstrating its potential for glucose detection in real samples.

Electro-oxidation reconstitution of aluminium copper MOF-derived metal oxyhydroxides for a robust OER process

It is common knowledge that the O₂ evolution reaction (OER) is a crucial half-reaction in the electrolysis of water. However, it is currently difficult to create inexpensive OER electrode materials in a way that is efficient, simple, and environmentally friendly. In this research, metal oxy-hydroxides with numerous oxygen defects (M-OOHv) are created at surface of Cu foam (CF) using a unique, straightforward electro-oxidation reconstitution (ER) process. Different spectroscopic and microscopy methods are used to analyse the electrode characteristics of Al₂Cu-MOF@M-OOHv-ER/CF; electrochemical measurements display a lower overpotential (η) of 366 mV @ 10 mA cm^-2 and a Tafel slope of 95.2 mV dec^-1 in 1.0 M KOH. X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Raman studies confirm the phase transition of the metal-organic framework (MOF) to the M-OOH, which acts as the active site to boost the OER activity. Through spectroscopic and microscopic investigations, it is determined that the efficiency of bimetallic electrode materials and oxygen vacancies in the M-OOHv have an impact on the electron power density. The manufactured electrode material additionally showed good durability for 50 hours. As a result, the newly developed Al₂Cu-MOF@M-OOHv-ER/CF nanomaterial has greater potential for both electrolysis of water and other energy storage equipment.
