Insight into the Process and Mechanism of Water-Rock Interaction in Underground Coal Mine Reservoirs Based on Indoor Static Simulation Experiments

Experimental study on the influence of water-rock interaction on the time-varying characteristics of coal rock mass

In order to study the influence of water-rock interaction on the mass time-varying characteristics of coal rocks, coal was selected as the research object and subjected to chemical immersion tests with different pH aqueous solutions for 12 days. By experiment, the time-varying patterns of mass change fraction in coal samples, pH value in solution, and ions concentration of calcium and magnesium were obtained. Based on the gray correlation theory, the correlation degree between the mass change fraction and four influencing factors was analyzed. The gray prediction models for the mass time-varying characteristics of coal rocks have been established. The research shows that: (1) the influence ways and degree of different pH aqueous solutions on the mass changes of coal rocks are different, (2) during the process of water-rock interaction, the change law of pH value, ions concentration of calcium and magnesium in solution are obvious, (3) the multiple regression models can be used to predict the mass change of coal rocks accurately under water-rock interaction.

Advances in the Experiments of Leaching in Cement-Based Materials and Dissolution in Rocks

Leaching in cement-based materials and dissolution in rocks are important problems in civil engineering. In the past century, concrete damage caused by leaching have occurred worldwide. And, rock dissolution is usually the main cause of karst rock erosions. This paper provides a review of the causes, influencing factors, and effects on engineering properties of dissolution of rocks and leaching of cement-based materials. The applied experimental methods for leaching and dissolution have been sorted out and discussed. In situ field experiments can be used to study dissolution under natural conditions, while the laboratory experiments can effectively shorten the experiment time length (by changing pH, temperature, pressure or other factors that affect the leaching or dissolution) to quickly investigate the mechanism of dissolution and leaching. Micro tests including XRD, SEM, EDS, and other testing methods can obtain the changes in material properties and microstructures under leaching and dissolution. In addition, with the advances in technologies and updated instruments, more and more new testing methods are being used. The factors affecting the leaching and dissolution include environmental factors, materials, and solvent parameters. The mechanisms and deterioration processes of leaching and dissolution varies according to the types of material and the compositions.

Mechanism of Changes in Goaf Water Hydrogeochemistry: A Case Study of the Menkeqing Coal Mine

Goaf water in mining areas is widely found in China's coal mines. To clarify the hydrogeochemical characteristics of goaf water and the influence mechanism of water-rock interaction and further reveal microbial action on the formation of goaf water quality, the goaf water in the Menkeqing coal mine was taken as the object, and physical modeling was used to simulate the process of the real goaf changing from an oxygen-sufficient environment to an anoxic environment with the rise of groundwater level in this work. The experimental results showed that the water-rock interaction in the goaf was mainly the dissolution-precipitation of minerals in the rocks of the caving zone and fracture zone, cation exchange, and oxidation of pyrite in the coal layer. The primary sources of Na⁺ and K⁺ in the goaf water were the dissolution and reverse ion exchange of silicate minerals such as albite and potassium feldspar, while Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ mainly from the dissolution of minerals such as calcium feldspar, calcite, and chlorite. The oxidation of pyrite in coal was the main reason for the increase in SO₄^2- concentration, the enhancement of reduction, and the decrease in pH and DO (dissolved oxygen) in the goaf water. Relative abundance of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in goaf (e.g., Desulfosporosinus, Desulfobacterium, etc.) increased gradually, inhibiting the increase in SO₄^2- concentration in goaf water through the devulcanization of SRB. The inverse hydrogeochemical modeling was performed using PHREEQC for two stages of the simulation experiment: 0-30 days and 30-300 days. The simulation results show that the water-rock action in the formation of goaf water mainly occurred in the simulation experiment's early stage (0-30 days), and the mineral dissolution is dominant throughout the experimental stage. The results of the study provide a theoretical reference for the prediction of highly mineralized water pollution in goaf and its prevention and control.
