Abstract
Polyacrylic Acid grafted Agar-agar (AAc-graf-Agar), and polyacrylamide grafted Agar-Agar (AAm-graf-Agar) have been synthesised by free radical polymerisation route initiated by ammonium peroxodisulphate (APS), the grafted polymers were characterised by FTIR, TGA and SEM methods. The swelling properties were studied in deionised water and saline solution at room temperature. The prepared hydrogels were examined by removing cationic methylene blue (MB) dye from the aqueous solution, in which the adsorption kinetics and isotherms models were also investigated. It was found that the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir equations are the most suitable for the different sorption processes. The maximum dye adsorption capacity was 1035.96 mg∙g-1 for AAc-graf-Agar in pH medium 12 and 1015.7 mg∙g-1 for AAm-graf-Agar in neutral pH medium. This indicates that the AAc-graf-Agar hydrogel could be an excellent adsorbent for removing MB from aqueous solutions.

Abstract
In our present work, we synthesized a new encapsulated complex denoted as RIBO-TSC4X, which was derived from an important vitamin riboflavin (RIBO) and p-sulfonatothiacalix[4]arene(TSC4X). The synthesized complex RIBO-TSC4X was then characterized by utilizing several spectroscopic techniques such as 1H-NMR, FT-IR, PXRD, SEM, and TGA. Job's plot has been employed to show the encapsulation of RIBO (guest) with TSC4X (host) having a 1:1 molar ratio. The molecular association constant of the complex entity (RIBO-TSC4X) was found to be 3116.29 ± 0.17 M-1, suggesting the formation of a stable complex. The augment in aqueous solubility of the RIBO-TSC4X complex compared to pure RIBO was investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy, and it was viewed that the newly synthesized complex has almost 30 times enhanced solubility over pure RIBO. The enhancement of thermal stability upto 440 °C for the RIBO-TSC4X complex was examined by TG analysis. This research also forecasts RIBO's release behavior in the presence of CT-DNA, and at the same time, BSA binding study was also carried out. The synthesized RIBO-TSC4X complex exhibited comparatively better free radical scavenging activity, thereby minimizing oxidative injury of the cell as evident from a series of antioxidant and anti-lipid peroxidation assay. Furthermore, the RIBO-TSC4X complex showed peroxidase-like biomimetic activity, which is very useful for several enzyme catalyst reactions.

Activated Carbon and Carbon Quantum Dots/Titanium Dioxide Composite Based on Waste Rice Noodles: Simultaneous Synthesis and Application in Water Pollution Control. NANOMATERIALS 2022; 12:nano12030472. Abstract
To achieve the full utilization of waste rice noodle (WRN) without secondary pollution, activated carbon (AC) and carbon quantum dots/titanium dioxide (CQDs/TiO2) composite were simultaneously synthesized by using WRN as raw material. Both of the two materials showed potential applications in water pollution control. The AC based on WRN displayed a porous spherical micro-morphology, which could absorb heavy metal elements like Pb(II) and Cr(VI) efficiently, with a maximum equilibrium uptake of 12.08 mg·g−1 for Pb(II) and 9.36 mg·g−1 for Cr(VI), respectively. The adsorption of the resulted AC could match the Freundlich adsorption isotherm and the pseudo-second-order kinetics mode. On the other hand, the CQDs/TiO2 composite based on WRN displayed a high efficient photocatalytic degradation effect on various water-soluble dyes such as methylene blue, malachite green, methyl violet, basic fuchsin, and rhodamine B under visible light irradiation, which showed better photocatalytic performance than commercial TiO2. The introduction of CQDs based on WRN to TiO2 could result in efficient electron-hole pair separation and enable more photogenerated electrons to reduce O2 and more photogenerated holes to oxidize H2O or OH−, which could cause stronger abilities in producing O2·− and ·OH radical and better photocatalytic activity.

Abstract
Using N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and acrylic acid (AAc) as monomers, N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a cross-linking agent, and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) as functional particles, a P(NIPAM-co-AAc)/MoS2 composite hydrogel was prepared by free radical polymerization initiated by ultraviolet light. The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy show that MoS2 has been successfully introduced into the P(NIPAM-co-AAc) system, and the obtained composite hydrogel has a porous network structure. Studies on the swelling property and dye adsorption performance show that the addition of MoS2 can increase the swelling ratio of P(NIPAM-co-AAc) hydrogels to a certain extent and can significantly improve the ability of the P(NIPAM-co-AAc) hydrogel to adsorb methylene blue (MB). The adsorption process of MB by the composite hydrogels conforms to the pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm adsorption models. The estimated equilibrium adsorption capacity (Q m) using the Langmuir isotherm model can reach 1258 mg/g, mainly due to the electrostatic interaction between the negatively charged groups -COO- and MoS2 particles on the network structure and the positively charged dye MB. The adsorption of MB by P(NIPAM-co-AAc)/MoS2 composite hydrogels depends on the temperature during adsorption. Compared with room temperature, a high temperature of 40 °C above the poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) phase transition temperature (∼32 °C) leads to a decreased adsorption capacity of the P(NIPAM-co-AAc)/MoS2 composite hydrogel for MB due to the enhanced hydrophobic properties of the network structure and the decrease of the swelling ratio. The prepared hydrogel material can be used as a good adsorbent for dyes, which is promising in wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Three copolymers TCP1–3 bearing Trӧger's base (TB) units intercalated with various thioether groups were synthesized using a catalyst-free thiol-yne click reaction. TCP1–3 display excellent solubility in common organic solvents allowing for their structural, and photophysical characterization. The thioether groups in TCP1–3 were selectively oxidized into their respective sulfone derivatives under mild oxidation reaction conditions affording the postmodified copolymers TCP4–6. Investigation of organic dye uptake from water by TCP1–6 proved their efficiency as selective adsorbents removing up to 100% of the cationic dye methylene blue (MEB) when compared to anionic dyes, such as Congo red (CR), methyl orange (MO) and methyl blue (MB). The sulfone-containing copolymers TCP4–6 display superior and faster MEB removal efficiencies with respect to their corresponding synthons TCP1–3. Copolymers TCP1–3 with Trӧger's base units and aryl thioether groups were made via a click reaction. Selective oxidation of the thioethers into sulfone groups afforded TCP4–6 which display up to 100% removal efficiency of methylene blue from water.![]()

Abstract
This paper deals with the synthesis of a protein-inorganic hybrid hydrogel and its derived materials, including aerogel and sheet, and the demonstration of their application potentials. For this, a common and abundant protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), and a copper salt were used in order to prepare a hydrogel by cross-linking the protein molecules using epichlorohydrin and embedding Cu2+ ions to give BSA_Cuhydrogel (1). When this material was lyophilized, it resulted in the product powder BSA_Cuaerogel (2); however, when dried under vacuum, it yielded a blue sheet material, BSA_Cusheet (3). All three of these biomaterials were characterized by spectroscopy and microscopy and further studied for three different applications, and the data were compared in order to establish the material vs property/activity relationship. The applications include (i) adsorption of organic dyes, (ii) reductive degradation of these dyes, and (iii) the reductive transformation of nitroaromatic compounds. The study revealed the efficient adsorption of the anionic and neutral dyes, while the adsorption of the cationic dye was much lower. The adsorption capacities (in mg/g) of Congo red followed the trend BSA_Cuaerogel (367 ± 6) > BSA_Cuhydrogel (274 ± 4) > BSA_Cusheet (204 ± 3). The comparison of the rate of reductive degradation of Congo red and methylene blue follows the same trend as that of the adsorption of the dyes. The reductive degradation was demonstrated for six cycles by reusing the recovered catalyst after every cycle. More than half a dozen nitroaromatics were studied for their reduction using BSA_Cuaerogel. In the case of p-nitrophenol, the rate of reduction follows the trend 2 > 1 > 3. Thus, this paper deals with a methodology to synthesize both a robust hydrogel incorporating metal ions and other derived protein-based biomaterials, viz., an aerogel and sheet, and a comparison of their activity toward the adsorption and degradation of dyes and nitroaromatics.

Abstract
A fluorescent naphthalimide conjugate of calix[4]arene (L1 ) has been synthesized and characterized. The selective and efficient detection of trinitrophenol (TNP) by L1 among nine other different nitroaromatic compounds was demonstrated using absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The minimum detection limit is 29 nM, which is the lowest reported so far by any conjugate of calixarene toward TNP. The fluorescence quenching is associated with a high Stern-Volmer constant of 3.3 ± 0.4 × 105 M-1. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) data revealed a network structure with pores having a weighted average size of 0.66 ± 0.08 μm for L1 . When incubated with TNP, the pores were filled with fibril structures, as supported by both SEM and TEM data. In order to demonstrate the real time applications, the L1 has been coated onto a Whatman filter paper and the imprint of TNP contaminated thumb has been detected upon physical contact. The 1HNMR titration and the studies carried out using the control molecule support the necessity of both the naphthalimide moiety and the calixarene platform for sensing. In order to mend L1 as a reversible sensor for TNP, the same is incorporated into carrageenan beads (L1 @Cb ) and the reversible sensing has been shown for three cycles by reusing the same material upon recovery followed by washing it. The solid-state detection of TNP has also been demonstrated using the lyophilized L1 @Cb bead powder. The fluorescence intensity of L1 was quenched upon addition of solid TNP to the lyophilized bead powder of L1 @Cb as studied by fluorescence microscopy. The computational studies show that one of the arms of the calixarene takes a bent conformation, and the 1:1 TNP complex of L1 is stabilized by exhibiting differential extents of hydrogen bonding interactions with the two arms owing to their conformational difference. The result of such complexation was already felt through the shifts observed in the experimentally measured 1HNMR spectra.
