Abstract
Polythioureas (PTUs) show great potentials for applications in the new generation of film capacitors due to their excellent dielectric properties. Herein, the cis-trans copolymer chain of PTU is successfully tailored by employing cis and trans cyclohexyl spacers. The relationship between the copolymer chain conformation, microstructure, and dielectric properties is carefully explored by a series of analysis. Compared with cis conformation, the trans with less steric hindrance can promote the formation of H-bonds. The enhanced H-bonding interactions not only reduce the molecular inter-chain spacing, but also drive the self-assembly of molecular chains to form cylindrical and droplet nano-morphologies. The phase separation between cis and trans PTUs is confirmed by combining the experimental results of TEM and DSC, and the CT64-PTU with the most two-phase interface thus obtains the highest permittivity of 5.5 (@10 Hz). The reduced molecular inter-chain spacing is accompanied by a decreased hopping distance of charges, which improves breakdown strength by 17% from 498 MV/m to 580 MV/m. Therefore, the cis-trans copolymer chain conformation in PTU provides a simultaneous high permittivity and breakdown strength. This research offers a strategy to further design high-performance dielectrics via regulation of copolymer chain conformation.

Crystallization of D-A Conjugated Polymers: A Review of Recent Research. Polymers (Basel) 2022; 14:polym14214612. Abstract
D-A conjugated polymers are key materials for organic solar cells and organic thin-film transistors, and their film structure is one of the most important factors in determining device performance. The formation of film structure largely depends on the crystallization process, but the crystallization of D-A conjugated polymers is not well understood. In this review, we attempted to achieve a clearer understanding of the crystallization of D-A conjugated polymers. We first summarized the features of D-A conjugated polymers, which can affect their crystallization process. Then, the crystallization process of D-A conjugated polymers was discussed, including the possible chain conformations in the solution as well as the nucleation and growth processes. After that, the crystal structure of D-A conjugated polymers, including the molecular orientation and polymorphism, was reviewed. We proposed that the nucleation process and the orientation of the nuclei on the substrate are critical for the crystal structure. Finally, we summarized the possible crystal morphologies of D-A conjugated polymers and explained their formation process in terms of nucleation and growth processes. This review provides fundamental knowledge on how to manipulate the crystallization process of D-A conjugated polymers to regulate their film structure.

Abstract
The Stille cross-coupling polymerization is one of the most efficient synthetic methods for donor-acceptor (D-A) type π-conjugated polymers (CPs). Nevertheless, thermal-activation Stille polymerization readily produced homocoupling defects, resulting in batch-to-batch variations in copolymers quality and deteriorating the device performance of electronics and optoelectronics. Here, a room-temperature Stille-type polymerization was developed, the utility and generality of which were demonstrated by synthesis of twelve D-A CPs with high molecular weights. Importantly, the resultant copolymers possessed no homocoupling (hc) structural defects, while hc reactions were observed in the thermal-activation Stille reactions. Thus, the organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on the former exhibited twofold higher charge transport mobility (2.10 cm2 V-1 s-1 ), since it possessed stronger crystallinity and lower trap density of states (tDOS).

Abstract
The semi-fluorinated alkyl (SFA) side chain introduced thienylenevinylene (TV)-based p-type polymer, PC12TVC5F7T, was synthesized for use in organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). Herein, we investigated the influence of SFA side chains on the morphology, molecular orientation, and crystalline structure using a combination of atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), two-dimensional (2D) grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Interestingly, the incorporation of SFA side chains led to the evolution of plate-like large-sized domains and also strongly intermolecular stacked high crystalline structures. Furthermore, due to the strong interactions between SFA side chains, several (00h) peaks could be observed for PC12TVC5F7T, in spite of their fairly large dihedral angle. As a result, due to the well-developed microstructure of PC12TVC5F7T, the OTFT devices based on it exhibited a high hole mobility of 1.91 cm2 V-1 s-1, which is an outstanding value among the poly(thiophene) derivative polymers. These observations indicate that large-sized domains and strongly intermolecular stacked high crystalline structures, which are beneficial for charge carrier transport, could be attained by the introduction of SFA side chains, further enhancing the performance of the OTFTs.

Abstract
In recent times, fused aromatic diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based functional semiconductors have attracted considerable attention in the developing field of organic electronics. Over the past few years, DPP-based semiconductors have demonstrated remarkable improvements in the performance of both organic field-effect transistor (OFET) and organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices due to the favorable features of the DPP unit, such as excellent planarity and better electron-withdrawing ability. Driven by this success, DPP-based materials are now being exploited in various other electronic devices including complementary circuits, memory devices, chemical sensors, photodetectors, perovskite solar cells, organic light-emitting diodes, and more. Recent developments in the use of DPP-based materials for a wide range of electronic devices are summarized, focusing on OFET, OPV, and newly developed devices with a discussion of device performance in terms of molecular engineering. Useful guidance for the design of future DPP-based materials and the exploration of more advanced applications is provided.

Abstract
In this paper, the conformational polymorphism of a chlorinated diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) dye having flexible substituents in a non-hydrogen-bonding system is reported. The propyl-substituted DPP derivative (PR3C) has three polymorphic forms, each showing a different colour (red, orange and yellow). All polymorphs could be obtained concomitantly under various crystallization conditions. The results of the crystal structure analysis indicate that PR3C adopts different conformations in each polymorph. The packing effect caused by the difference in the arrangement of neighbouring molecules was found to play an important role in the occurrence of the observed polymorphism. The thermodynamic stability relationship between the three polymorphs was identified by thermal analysis and indicates that the yellow polymorph is the thermally stable form. The results indicate that the yellow form and orange form are enantiotropically related, and the other polymorph is monotropically related to the others.

Abstract
All-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs) based on n- and p-type polymers have emerged as promising alternatives to fullerene-based solar cells due to their unique advantages such as good chemical and electronic adjustability, and better thermal and photochemical stabilities. Rapid advances have been made in the development of n-type polymers consisting of various electron acceptor units for all-PSCs. So far, more than 200 n-type polymer acceptors have been reported. In the last seven years, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of all-PSCs rapidly increased and has now surpassed 10%, meaning they are approaching the performance of state-of-the-art solar cells using fullerene derivatives as acceptors. This review discusses the design criteria, synthesis, and structure-property relationships of n-type polymers that have been used in all-PSCs. Additionally, it highlights the recent progress toward photovoltaic performance enhancement of binary, ternary, and tandem all-PSCs. Finally, the challenges and prospects for further development of all-PSCs are briefly considered.

Abstract
A series of diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based copolymers, with DPP and bithiophene (BT) as the electron-acceptor and donor backbone units, respectively, are synthesized with branched alkyl side chains that are either directly coupled to the N-positions of DPP or separated by an alkyl ester group. The ester moieties in the side chains induce specific cohesive molecular interactions between these side chains, as compared to the alkyl-only side chains with weak van der Waals interactions. Structure analysis of the DPPBT-based copolymers demonstrated that the introduction of a proper alkyl ester spacer to the branched alkyl chains can shorten the π-π stacking distance between the DPPBT backbones down to 3.61 Å and promote the development of two-dimensionally extended domains. DPPBT-based copolymers, including different branched alkyl ester-labeled side chains, are spun-cast on polymer-treated SiO2 dielectrics from dilute chloroform solutions for organic thin-film transistors. A DPPBT-based copolymer with properly engineered side chains (i.e., 2-decyltetradecyl ester-labeled side chains) shows the highest hole mobility of 2.30 cm2 V-1 s-1 and an on/off current ratio of above 106.

Abstract
Linear polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was investigated as a solubilizing group for π-conjugated polymers with the aim of combining high solubility in organic solvents with the molecular packing in solid films that is advantageous for charge transport. Diketopyrrolopyrrole-based copolymers with different contents and substitution patterns of the PDMS side chains were synthesized and evaluated for application in organic field-effect transistors. The PDMS side chains greatly increased the solubility of the polymers and led to shorter d-spacings of the π-stacking in the thin films compared with polymers containing conventional branched alkyl side chains.

Abstract
To simultaneously assess the impact of molecular weight (Mn) and alkyl substituent variations of polymers on the structural and optoelectronic properties, herein, we conduct a systematic study of a series of poly(thienoisoindigo-alt-naphthalene) (PTIIG-Np)-based polymers containing different alkyl substituents (2-hexyldecyl (HD), 2-octyldodecyl (OD), and 2-decyltetradecyl (DT) chains) and Mn's (low (L) and high (H)). All of the polymers produce almost identical energy levels, whereas their optical spectra show a clear dependence on Mn's and the alkyl substituents. Interestingly, increasing the alkyl substituent sizes of the polymers steadily increases the lamellar d-spacings (d100), ultimately leading to a densely packed lamellar structure for PTIIGHD-Np. In addition, both H-PTIIGOD-Np and H-PTIIGDT-Np exhibit larger π-stacking crystallites than the corresponding low-Mn polymers, while for PTIIGHD-Np, their size increases in the low-Mn batch. Ultimately, L-PTIIGHD-Np shows the best hole mobility of 1.87 cm2 V-1 s-1 in top-gate and bottom-contact organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with a poly(methyl methacrylate), which is nearly 1 order of magnitude higher than other polymers tested in this study. Our results demonstrate that the simultaneous Mn and alkyl substituent engineering of the polymers can optimize their film morphology to produce high-performance OFETs.

Abstract
A ladder-type dithieno[3,2-b:6,7-b']fluorene (DTF), where the central fluorene is fused with two outer thiophene rings at its 2,3- and 6,7-junctions, is developed. The pentacyclic DTF monomers were polymerized with dithienodiketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) acceptors to afford three alternating donor-acceptor copolymers PDTFDPP16, PDTFDPP20, and PDTFDPP32 incorporating different aliphatic side chains (R1 group at DTF; R2 group at the DPP moieties). The side-chain variations in the polymers play a significant role in determining not only the intrinsic molecular properties but also the intermolecular packing. As evidenced by the 2-dimensional GIXS measurements, PDTFDPP16 with octyl (R1) and 2-ethylhexyl (R2) side chains tends to align in an edge-on π-stacking orientation, whereas PDTFDPP20 using 2-butyloctyl (R1) and 2-ethylhexyl (R2) adopts a predominately face-on orientation. PDTFDPP32 with the bulkiest 2-butyloctyl (R1) and 2-octyldodecyl (R2) side chains shows a less ordered amorphous character. The OFET device using PDTFDPP20 with a face-on orientation determined by GIXS measurements achieved a high hole-mobility of up to 5 cm2 V-1 s-1. The high rigidity and coplanarity of the DTF motifs play an important role in facilitating intramolecular 1-dimensional charge transport within the polymer backbones. The implementation of main-chain coplanarity and side-chain engineering strategies in this research provides in-depth insights into structure-property relationships for guiding development of high-mobility OFET polymers.

Abstract
In this paper we report three thiazole-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole-based donor-acceptor alternating copolymers as new ambipolar semiconductors and their field-effect transistor devices with balanced hole and electron mobilities. Nitrile groups are introduced into the polymer backbone, and the substituent effect on electronic structures is studied. Different side chains are also involved to tune the interdigitation of the polymers. To probe the structural effects that contribute to the device performances, we provide insight into the thin-film microstructures and morphologies. Top-gate bottom-contact transistors fabricated under ambient conditions exhibit the impressive balanced hole and electron mobilities as high as 1.46 and 1.14 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively, which are among the highest values reported for ambipolar thiazole-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole-based polymers. Additionally, this class of ambipolar polymers also shows promise for complementary-like inverters with a high gain value of 163.

Abstract
A novel donor-acceptor-donor-acceptor (D-A1-D-A2) π-conjugated copolymer (PDBPyDT2FBT) has been prepared by Stille coupling reaction. It is found that PDBPyDT2FBT exhibits low LUMO energy level mainly because of multiple electron-deficient units and donor-acceptor interaction, which is favorable to obtain more efficient electron injection and transport in organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). Moreover, introducing two electron-deficient moieties into the thiophene-containing copolymer increases the length of conjugated main chain and enhances the coplanarity of the backbone, which may be beneficial for promoting the molecular crystallinity and improving molecular ordering capability at low temperatures. High electron and hole mobilities up to 0.65 and 0.24 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) were obtained at relatively low annealing temperatures of 100 and 80 °C, respectively, implying that PDBPyDT2FBT is a promising ambipolar polymer semiconductor applied in low-cost and large-area manufacturing of OTFTs.

Abstract
New regular and random diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based terpolymers (i.e., Reg-PBDPPT and Ran-PBDPPT, respectively) bearing DPP as an electron deficient unit and 2,2'-bithiophene and (E)-1,2-di(thiophen-2-yl)ethene as electron donating units were designed and synthesized, and their performance in photovoltaic cells was investigated precisely. The absorption properties and highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of Reg-PBDPPT were found to be different from those of Ran-PBDPPT. The results of grazing incidence X-ray diffraction experiments revealed that Ran-PBDPPT typically had a predominantly edge-on chain orientation on the substrate, whereas Reg-PBDPPT showed mixed chain orientation both in pristine and thermally annealed films. Although Reg-PBDPPT exhibited a lower degree of edge-on chain orientation on the substrate, the corresponding TFTs showed a high hole mobility of 0.42-0.96 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) and maintained a high current on/off ratio (>10(6)). A polymer solar cell (PSC) composed of Reg-PBDPPT and PC71BM exhibited power conversion efficiencies (PCE) of 5.24-5.45%, which were higher than those of the Ran-PBDPPT-based PSCs. The enhanced efficiency was supported by an increase in the short circuit current, which is strongly related to the unique internal crystalline morphology and pronounced nanophase segregation behavior in the blend films. These results obviously manifested that this synthetic strategy for regular conjugated terpolymers could be employed to control morphological properties to obtain high-performance PSCs.
