Abstract
Explicit calculations of vertical and adiabatic ionization potentials of cyclopropane derivatives with modern DFT methods have underscored the possibility of unusually large reorganization energies (defined as the difference between vertical and adiabatic ionization potentials) of 0.5-1.0 eV for several compounds. Such is the case for ionization of the twist-bent σ-bond of trans-bicyclo[4.1.0]hept-3-ene (trans-3-norcarene), for which B3LYP*-D3 calculations predict an adiabatic IP of 7.92 eV. The corresponding value for the cis-norcarene is 8.34 eV. The significantly lower adiabatic IP provides an attractive explanation for the higher reactivity of the trans compound under oxidative conditions. Large reorganization energies are also found for the ionization of cyclopropane, bicyclo[1.1.0]butane, and bicyclo[2.1.0]pentane. In sharp contrast, an exceptionally small reorganization energy is associated with the ionization of tricyclo[1.1.1.0]pentane ([1.1.1]propellane).

Abstract
The preparation of a new class of alkenyl cyclopropyl diols, easily available through a copper-catalyzed carbometalation reaction of cyclopropenes, has enabled the study of key mechanistic aspects of the tandem Heck-cyclopropane ring-opening reaction. Utilizing these substrates containing two distinct hydroxyl groups allowed us to examine parameters affecting the reaction outcome and selectivity. The combination of these experimental results with detailed DFT studies shed light on the mechanism governing the regio- and stereoselectivity of the cyclopropane ring-opening. A thorough investigation displayed the dual roles fulfilled by the hydroxyl group during the reaction, which is key to this remarkable transformation. In addition to its mechanistic implication, the reaction granted access to various lactones possessing up to four stereocenters as a single diastereomer, conveniently prepared in only two catalytic steps from easily accessible achiral cyclopropenes.

Abstract
The ring-opening/cyclization of cyclopropane derivatives has drawn great attention in the past several decades. In this review, recent efforts in the development of oxidative radical ring-opening/cyclization of cyclopropane derivatives, including methylenecyclopropanes, cyclopropyl olefins and cyclopropanols, are described. We hope this review will be of sufficient interest for the scientific community to further advance the application of oxidative radical strategies in the ring-opening/cyclization of cyclopropane derivatives.

Abstract
A new class of bioorthogonal reagents based on the cyclopentadiene scaffold is described. The diene 6,7,8,9-tetrachloro-1,4-dioxospiro[4,4]nona-6,8-diene (a tetrachlorocyclopentadiene ketal, TCK) is ambiphilic and self-orthogonal with remarkable stability. The diene reacts rapidly with a trans-cyclooctene and an endo-bicyclononyne, but slowly with dibenzoazacyclooctyne (DIBAC), allowing for tandem labeling studies with mutually orthogonal azides that react rapidly with DIBAC. TCK analogues are synthesized in three steps from inexpensive, commercially available starting materials.

Abstract
Despite the growing use of renewable and sustainable biofuels in transportation, their combustion chemistry is poorly understood, limiting our efforts to reduce harmful emissions. Here we report on the (dissociative) ionization and the thermal decomposition mechanism of cyclopentanone, studied using imaging photoelectron photoion coincidence spectroscopy. The fragmentation of the ions is dominated by loss of CO, C2H4, and C2H5, leading to daughter ions at m/z 56 and 55. Exploring the C5H8O.+ potential energy surface reveals hydrogen tunneling to play an important role in low‐energy decarbonylation and probably also in the ethene‐loss processes, yielding 1‐butene and methylketene cations, respectively. At higher energies, pathways without a reverse barrier open up to oxopropenyl and cyclopropanone cations by ethyl‐radical loss and a second ethene‐loss channel, respectively. A statistical Rice–Ramsperger–Kassel–Marcus model is employed to test the viability of this mechanism. The pyrolysis of cyclopentanone is studied at temperatures ranging from about 800 to 1100 K. Closed‐shell pyrolysis products, namely 1,3‐butadiene, ketene, propyne, allene, and ethene, are identified based on their photoion mass‐selected threshold photoelectron spectrum. Furthermore, reactive radical species such as allyl, propargyl, and methyl are found. A reaction mechanism is derived incorporating both stable and reactive species, which were not predicted in prior computational studies.

Abstract
Since the first discovery of carbocupration of alkynes in the 1970s a tremendous amount of research has been carried out in this field. The exceptionally high selectivities obtained attribute to the great synthetic value of carbocupration reactions. This tutorial review will present the most important features of carbocupration of alkynes and highlight the most relevant reviews. Then a comprehensive review of copper mediated carbometalation of cyclopropenes will follow. The latter method has received much attention over the last decade as it allows the highly selective construction of poly-substituted cyclopropanes which can be transformed into acyclic derivatives bearing one or multiple tertiary or quaternary carbon stereocenters.

Abstract
The cyclopropene radical cation (c-C3H₄⁺) is an important but poorly characterized three-membered-ring hydrocarbon. We report on a measurement of the high-resolution photoelectron and photoionization spectra of cyclopropene and several deuterated isotopomers, from which we have determined the rovibrational energy level structure of the X⁺ (2)B2 ground electronic state of c-C3H₄⁺ at low energies for the first time. The synthesis of the partially deuterated isotopomers always resulted in mixtures of several isotopomers, differing in their number of D atoms and in the location of these atoms, so that the photoelectron spectra of deuterated samples are superpositions of the spectra of several isotopomers. The rotationally resolved spectra indicate a C(2v)-symmetric R0 structure for the ground electronic state of c-C3H₄⁺. Two vibrational modes of c-C3H₄⁺ are found to have vibrational wave numbers below 300 cm(-1), which is surprising for such a small cyclic hydrocarbon. The analysis of the isotopic shifts of the vibrational levels enabled the assignment of the lowest-frequency mode (fundamental wave number of ≈110 cm(-1) in c-C3H₄⁺) to the CH2 torsional mode (ν₈⁺, A2 symmetry) and of the second-lowest-frequency mode (≈210 cm(-1) in c-C3H₄⁺) to a mode combining a CH out-of-plane with a CH2 rocking motion (ν₁₅⁺, B2 symmetry). The potential energy along the CH2 torsional coordinate is flat near the equilibrium structure and leads to a pronounced anharmonicity.

Abstract
Analysis of model compounds such as Fe2(CO)6, C2 and HBBH shows that pi-bonds left to themselves are shorter than sigma-bonds; in many ways sigma-bonds prevent pi-bonds from adopting their optimal shorter distances.

Abstract
X-ray structural analysis for (Z)-2-cyclopropyl-1-(2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl)-1-phosphaethene (2) was performed to confirm that the cyclopropyl group largely interacts with the P[double bond]C group compared with its carbon analogue, vinylcyclopropane (1). Absorption spectrum and redox properties of 2 were also studied to prove the conjugation. Theoretical investigation for nonsubstituted derivatives (4) indicated conjugative interaction between the P[double bond]C and cyclopropyl groups and revealed the physicochemical similarities between the P=C and C[double bond]C.
