Abstract
Hydroformylation (HF) or isomerization-hydroformylation (ISO-HF) represents the most direct and practical route for producing aldehydes on an industrial scale. To resolve the issues of low activity, low linear/branched (l/b) ratio, and low stability in HF and ISO-HF, we herein reported a class of spirocyclic diphosphites. Notably, the ligand termed O-SDPhite afforded excellent catalytic activity and regioselectivity for the HF of various olefins. Excellent l/b ratio and an unprecedented turnover number of up to 17,620,000 were achieved. O-SDPhite was also found to be effective in the regioselective ISO-HF of the industrially related cheap and abundant C4 Raffinates to n-valeraldehyde produced on a multimillion-ton scale. The reaction with O-SDPhite, superior to that of benchmark Biphephos, was continuously operated for 41 days and afforded an average 38.6 l/b ratio (31 days and 14.7 l/b ratio for Biphephos).

Abstract
In this minireview we survey the challenges and strategies in gold redox catalysis. Gold's reluctance to oxidative addition reactions due to its high redox potential limits its applicability. Initial attempts to overcome this problem focused on the use of sacrificial external oxidants in stoichiometric amounts to bring Au(I) compounds to Au(III) reactive species. Recently, innovative approaches focused on employing hemilabile ligands, which are capable of coordinating to Au(I) and stabilizing square-planar Au(III) intermediates, thus facilitating oxidative addition steps and enabling oxidant-free catalysis. Notable examples include the use of the (P^N) bidendate MeDalphos ligand to achieve various cross-coupling reactions via oxidative addition Au(I)/Au(III). Importantly, hemilabile ligand-enabled catalysis allows merging oxidative addition with π-activation, such as oxy- and aminoarylation of alkenols and alkenamines using organohalides, expanding gold's versatility in C-C and C-heteroatom bond formations and unprecedented cyclizations. Moreover, recent advancements in enantioselective catalysis using chiral hemilabile (P^N) ligands are also surveyed. Strikingly, versatile bidentate (C^N) hemilabile ligands as competitors of MeDalphos have appeared recently, by designing scaffolds where phosphine groups are substituted by N-heterocyclic or mesoionic carbenes. Overall, these approaches highlight the evolving landscape of gold redox catalysis and its tremendous potential in a broad scope of transformations.

Abstract
Organometallic-mediated chain growth polymerization of readily accessible chemical building blocks is responsible for important commercial and technological advances in polymer science, but the incorporation of heteroatoms into the polymer backbone through these mechanisms remains a challenge. Transition metal π-allyl complexes are well-developed organometallic intermediates for carbon-heteroatom bond formation in small-molecule catalysis yet remain underexplored in polymer science. Here, we developed a regioselective palladium-phosphoramidite-catalyzed chain-growth allylic amination polymerization of vinyl aziridines for the synthesis of novel nitrogen-rich polymers via ambiphilic π-allyl complexes. The polymerization accessed a linear microstructure with four carbons between each nitrogen, which is challenging to achieve through other chain-growth polymerization approaches. The highly regioselective allylic amination polymerization demonstrated the characteristics of a controlled polymerization and was able to achieve molar masses exceeding 20 kg mol-1 with low dispersities (D̵ < 1.3). The identification of the polymer structure and well-defined chain ends were supported by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and chain extension experiments demonstrate opportunities for building more complex materials from this method. A Hammett study was performed to understand the role of the catalyst and monomer structure on regioselectivity, and the data supported a mechanism wherein regioselectivity was primarily controlled by the ligand-metal complex. Postpolymerization desulfonylation provided access to a novel polyamine that demonstrated broad anticancer activity in vitro, which highlights the benefits of unlocking novel polyamine microstructures through regioselective chain-growth allylic amination polymerization.

Abstract
In anticipation of the correlations between catalyst structures and their properties, the catalytic activities of 2-imino-1,10-phenanthrolyl iron and cobalt metal complexes are quantitatively investigated via linear machine learning (ML) algorithms. Comparatively, the Ridge Regression (RR) model has captured more robust predictive performance compared with other linear algorithms, with a correlation coefficient value of R2= 0.952 and a cross-validation value of Q2= 0.871. It shows that different algorithms select distinct types of descriptors, depending on the importance of descriptors. Through the interpretation of the RR model, the catalytic activity is potentially related to the steric effect of substituents and negative charged groups. This study refines descriptor selection for accurate modeling, providing insights into the variation principle of catalytic activity.

Abstract
A highly stereo- and chemoselective intermolecular coupling of diverse heterocycles with dialkynylphosphine oxides has been realized via cobalt/rhodium-catalyzed C-H bond activation. This protocol provides an efficient synthetic entry to functionalized 1,2-dihydrophosphete oxides in excellent yields via the merger of C-H bond activation and formal 1,2-migration of the phosphoryl group. Compared with traditional methods of synthesis of 1,2-dihydrophosphetes that predominantly relied on stoichiometric metal reagents, this catalytic system features high efficiency, a relatively short reaction time, atom-economy, and operational simplicity. Photophysical properties of selected 1,2-dihydrophosphete oxides are also disclosed.

Abstract
1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethanes (DPPEs) are versatile and immensely important ligands in transition metal catalysts. Here we report the dithiophosphinylation of readily available allenyl acetates to give DPPEs in high yields and regioselectivity. This protocol features a broad substrate scope and mild conditions, avoiding the use of transition metals and air-sensitive sources of phosphorus. Mechanism studies indicate that the reaction was accomplished via an SN2'-type addition-elimination followed by a 1,4-addition step.

Abstract
The diphosphination of alkenes through a radical pathway offers a promising approach for the rapid construction of aryl bisphosphines. However, such a synthetic strategy has not been successfully applied to the preparation of alkyl bisphosphines, partially due to the difficulties in the generation of phosphorus-centered radicals from common alkyl phosphine compounds. We herein demonstrate that this challenge can be overcome by hiring Janus-faced chlorophosphine as the phosphine source that can act as not only a radical precursor to generate phosphine-centered radicals but also a radicalphile to capture alkyl radicals. With this novel strategy, a photocatalyzed reductive diphosphination reaction has been established, allowing for a straightforward synthesis of both aryl and alkyl 1,2-bisphosphines from readily accessible alkenes and chlorophosphines.

Abstract
The factors governing the acceleration of the oxidative addition of methyl iodide to pincer rhodium(I)-complexes induced by coronene have been computationally explored in detail using quantum chemical methods. Both the parent reaction and the coronene-mediated process proceed via a stepwise SN2-type mechanism. It is found that the acceleration of the process derives from the formation of an initial supramolecular complex, mainly stabilized by electrostatic and π-π interactions, which significantly increases the electron richness of the complex. The impact of this effect on the reaction barrier has been quantitatively analyzed by applying the activation strain model in combination with the energy decomposition analysis method. In addition, the influence of other polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the oxidative reaction has been also considered.

Abstract
ConspectusThe advent of the twenty-first century marked a golden era in the realm of synthetic chemistry, exemplified by groundbreaking advancements in the field of C-H activation, which is a concept that quickly transitioned from mere academic fascination to an essential element within the synthetic chemist's toolkit. This methodological breakthrough has given rise to a wealth of opportunities spanning a wide range of chemical disciplines. It has facilitated the late-stage diversification of elaborate organic frameworks, encompassing the spectrum from simple methane to complex polymers, thus refining the lead optimization process and easing the production of diverse molecular analogues. Among these strides forward, the development of phosphorus(III)-directed C-H activation stands out as an increasingly significant and inventive approach for the design and synthesis of ligands, substantially redefining the contours of synthetic methodology.Phosphines, renowned for their roles as ligands and organocatalysts, have become fundamentally important in modern organic chemistry. Their efficiency as ligands is significantly affected by coordination with transition metals, which is essential for their involvement in catalytic processes, influencing both the catalytic activity and the selectivity. Historically, the fabrication of phosphines predominantly relied on synthesis employing complex, multistep procedures. Addressing this limitation, our research has delved into ligand design and synthesis through innovative catalytic P(III)-directed C-H activation strategies. In this Account, we have explored a spectrum of procedures, including direct arylation using metal catalysis, and ventured further into domains such as C-H alkylation, alkenylation, aminocarbonylation, alkynylation, borylation, and silylation. These advances have enriched the field by providing efficient methods for the late-stage diversification of biaryl-type monophosphines as well as enabled the C-H activation of triphenylphosphine and its derivatives. Moreover, we have successfully constructed libraries of diverse axially chiral binaphthyl phosphine ligands, showcasing their potency in asymmetric catalysis. Through this Account, we aim to illuminate the exciting possibilities presented by P(III)-directed C-H activation in propelling the boundaries of organic synthesis. By highlighting our pioneering work, we hope to inspire further developments in this promising field of chemistry.

Abstract
Herein, a facile method is developed for the synthesis of vicinal bisphosphine derivatives based on a cascade of hydrophosphinylation, elimination, and hydrophosphinylation of secondary phosphine oxides with nitroalkenes. This cascade reaction provides step-economy access to a series of vicinal bisphosphine derivatives with high to excellent yields (up to 99%). This method was further extended to prepare, in one-pot, regioselective vicinal bisphosphine derivatives that incorporated two different phosphorus functional groups.

This method, which was demonstrated with a broad substrate scope, is a highly complementary method to the existing Heck coupling of synthesizing challenging α-heteroaryl-α-alkoxy alkenes.

Abstract
The current investigation presents an innovative palladium-catalyzed asymmetric carbonylative Heck esterification method. This approach facilitates the efficient synthesis of various chiral γ-ketoacid esters by utilizing o-alkenyliodobenzenes and arylboronic acids as primary substrates. This reaction achieves the creation of three carbon-carbon bonds, two carbon-oxygen bonds, and the establishment of a quaternary carbon center within a single step. The α-chiral γ-ketoacid esters were obtained in yields ranging from good to high yields, displaying enantiomeric excesses (ee's) levels up to 92% under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Here, we report the development of cobalt(I)-catalyzed regioselective allylic alkylation reactions of tertiary allyl carbonates with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. A family of well-defined tetrahedral cobalt(I) complexes bearing commercially available bidentate bis(phosphine) ligands [(P,P)Co(PPh3 )Cl] are synthesized and explored as catalysts in allylic alkylation reactions. The catalyst [(dppp)Co(PPh3 )Cl] (dppp=1,3-Bis(diphenylphosphino)propane) enables the alkylation of a large variety of tertiary allyl carbonates with high yields and excellent regioselectivity for the branched product. Remarkably, this methodology is selective for the activation of tertiary allyl carbonates even in the presence of secondary allyl carbonates. This contrasts with the selectivity observed in cobalt-catalyzed allylic alkylations enabled by visible light photocatalysis. Mechanistic insights by means of experimental and computational investigations support a Co(I)/Co(III) catalytic cycle.

Abstract
Novel asymmetric aminocatalytic cycloadditions are described between formyl cycloheptatrienes and 6,6-dimethylfulvene that lead to [4 + 2], [6 + 2], and [4 + 6] cycloadducts. The unprecedented reaction course is dependent on the position of the formyl functionality in the cycloheptatriene core, and each formyl cycloheptatriene isomer displays a distinct reactivity pattern. The formyl cycloheptatriene isomers are activated by a chiral primary diamine catalyst, and the activation mode is dependent on the position of the formyl functionality relative to the cycloheptatriene core. The [4 + 2] and [6 + 2] cycloadducts are formed via rare iminocatalytic inverse electron-demand cycloadditions, while the [4 + 6] cycloadduct is formed by a normal electron-demand cycloaddition. The reactivity displayed by the different formyl cycloheptatrienes was investigated by DFT calculations. These computational studies account for the different reaction paths for the three isomeric formyl cycloheptatrienes. The aminocatalytic [4 + 2], [6 + 2], and [4 + 6] cycloadditions proceed by stepwise processes, and the interplay between conjugation, substrate distortion, and dispersive interactions between the fulvene and aminocatalyst mainly defines the outcome of each cycloaddition.

Abstract
The influence of the P-M-P bite angle in diphosphine ligands on selectivity has been observed in various catalytic reactions. A better understanding of the ligand bite angle concept is important for the rational design of efficient catalytic systems. In the present work, the mechanism of cobalt-catalyzed C-H functionalization of aldehydes with enynes and how the diphosphine ligands alter regioselectivity were investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The catalytic cycle is initiated by the oxidative cyclization of enynes rather than the oxidative addition of aldehydes. Regioselectivity arises from competing σ-bond metathesis and migratory insertion steps, in which the steric effects of diphosphine ligands are the dominant factors influencing the activation barriers. The calculations indicate that σ-bond metathesis is more challenging and its feasibility is highly dependent on the ligand bite angle. The improved mechanistic understanding will enable further design of transition-metal-catalyzed selective cyclization reactions.

Abstract
Novel axially chiral biphenyl diphosphine ligands Enm-BridgePhos, bearing an ether chain bridge at the 5,5'-position of the biphenyl backbone, have been developed and successfully applied in the Rh-catalyzed enantioselective desymmetric hydrogenation of α-acetamido-1,3-indanediones, providing chiral α-acetamido-β-hydroxybenzocyclic pentones in high yields (up to 97%) and with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee). The reaction could be carried out on a gram scale, and the corresponding products were used as vital intermediates for the synthesis of analogues of chiral spirobenzylisoquinoline alkaloids. Both the crystal structure analysis and the DFT calculations revealed that the large dihedral angle of the Enm-BridgePhos-Rh complexes is highly related to the excellent enantioselectivities.

Abstract
1 H NMR studies using a cationic complex with a pyridine-di-imidazolylidene pincer ligand of formula [Rh(CNC)(CO)]+ revealed that this compound showed high binding affinity with coronene in CH2 Cl2 . The interaction between coronene and the planar RhI complex is established by means of π-stacking interactions. This interaction has a strong impact on the electron-donating strength of the pincer CNC ligand, which is increased significantly, as demonstrated by the shifting of the ν(CO) stretching bands to lower frequencies. The addition of coronene increases the reaction rate of the nucleophilic attack of methyl iodide on the rhodium (I) pincer complex, and also has a positive effect on the performance of the complex as a catalyst in the cycloisomerization of 4-pentynoic acid. These findings highlight the importance of supramolecular interactions for tuning the reactivity and catalytic activity of square-planar metal complexes.

Abstract
The Pd-Xantphos-mediated 11C-carbonylation protocol (also known as the "Xantphos- method"), due to its simplistic and convenient nature, has facilitated researchers in meeting a longstanding need for preparing 11C-carbonyl-labeled radiopharmaceuticals at ambient pressure for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging and drug discovery. This development could be viewed as a breakthrough in carbon-11 chemistry, as evidenced by the rapid global adoption of the method by the pharmaceutical industry and academic laboratories worldwide. The method has been fully automated for the good manufacturing practice (GMP)-compliant production of novel radiopharmaceuticals for human use, and it has been adapted for "in-loop" reactions and microwave technology; an impressive number of 11C-labeled compounds (>100) have been synthesized. Given the simplicity and efficiency of the method, as well as the abundance of carbonyl groups in bioactive drug molecules, we expect that this methodology will be even more widely adopted in future PET radiopharmaceutical research and drug development.

Abstract
Dihydropyridines are versatile building blocks for the synthesis of pyridines, tetrahydropyridines, and piperidines. Addition of nucleophiles to activated pyridinium salts allows synthesis of 1,2-, 1,4-, or 1,6-dihydropyridines; however, this process often leads to a mixture of constitutional isomers. Catalyst-controlled regioselective addition of nucleophiles to pyridiniums has the potential to solve this problem. Herein, we report that the regioselective addition of boron-based nucleophiles to pyridinium salts can be accomplished by the choice of a Rh catalyst.

Abstract
Carbenes are highly active reaction intermediates, which can be used as reaction precursors to modify organisms, drugs, and material molecules. In this work, we realized a new cheap metal-catalyzed carbonylation of carbene to give propanedioic acid derivatives. Abstract
Enantiopure P-stereogenic methylphosphane-boranes (SP)-P(BH3)PhArMe (ArMe; Ar = 1-naphthyl (NpMe), and 2-biphenylyl (BiphMe)) have been used to prepare diphosphanes of the type ArPhPCH2PR2 (R = Ph, iPr or tBu; ArR). The ligands have been reacted with [Rh(COD)2]BF4 to furnish the corresponding six monochelated [Rh(COD)(ArR)]BF4 organometallic compounds (RhArR) or, depending on the reaction conditions, the bis(chelated) coordination compound [Rh(BiphiPr)2]BF4 as a mixture of cis and trans isomers. The crystal structure of cis-[Rh(BiphiPr)2]BF4 was obtained. The coordination of the BiphR with [RuCl(μ-Cl)(η6-p-cymene)2]2 under different conditions produced cationic chelated complexes of the type [RuCl(η6-p-cymene)(κ2-BiphR)]PF6 (RuBiphR) and the neutral monocoordinated complex [RuCl2(η6-p-cymene)(κ1-BiphPh)] (RuBiphPh') with the uncoordinated P-stereogenic moiety. The Rh(I) complexes were used in the catalytic hydrogenation of functionalized olefins and the Ru(II) complexes were tested in the transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone. Both precursors displayed good activities with moderate enantioselectivities.

Abstract
Alkynes and 1,3-dienes are among the most readily available precursors for organic synthesis. We report two distinctly different, catalyst-dependent, modes of regio- and enantioselective cycloaddition reactions between these classes of compounds providing rapid access to highly functionalized 1,4-cyclohexadienes or cyclobutenes from the same precursors. Complexes of an earth abundant metal, cobalt, with several commercially available chiral bisphosphine ligands with narrow bite angles catalyze [4+2]-cycloadditions between a 1,3-diene and an alkyne giving a cyclohexa-1,4-diene in excellent chemo-, regio- and enantioselectivities. In sharp contrast, complex of a finely tuned phosphino-oxazoline ligand promotes unique [2+2]-cycloaddition between the alkyne and the terminal double bond of the diene giving a highly functionalized cyclobutene in excellent regio- and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
Hemilabile ligands have been applied extensively in transition metal catalysis, but preparations of these molecules typically require multistep synthesis. Here, modular assembly of diverse phosphine-amide ligands, including related axially chiral compounds, is first reported through ruthenium-catalyzed C-H activation of phosphines with isocyanate directed by phosphorus(III) atoms. High reactivity and regioselectivity can be obtained by using a Ru3 (CO)12 catalyst with a mono-N-protected amino acid ligand. This transformation significantly expands the pool of phosphine-amide ligands, some of which have shown excellent efficiency for asymmetric catalysis. More broadly, the discovery constitutes a proof of principle for facile construction of hemilabile ligands directly from the parent monodentate phosphines by C-H activation with ideal atom, step and redox economy. Several dinuclear ruthenium complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealing the key mechanistic features of this transformation.

A theory-driven synthesis of symmetric and unsymmetric 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane analogues via radical difunctionalization of ethylene. Nat Commun 2022; 13:7034. Abstract
1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (DPPE) and its synthetic analogues are important structural motifs in organic synthesis, particularly as diphosphine ligands with a C2-alkyl-linker chain. Since DPPE is known to bind to many metal centers in a bidentate fashion to stabilize the corresponding metal complex via the chelation effect originating from its entropic advantage over monodentate ligands, it is often used in transition-metal-catalyzed transformations. Symmetric DPPE derivatives (Ar12P-CH2-CH2-PAr12) are well-known and readily prepared, but electronically and sterically unsymmetric DPPE (Ar12P-CH2-CH2-PAr22; Ar1≠Ar2) ligands have been less explored, mostly due to the difficulties associated with their preparation. Here we report a synthetic method for both symmetric and unsymmetric DPPEs via radical difunctionalization of ethylene, a fundamental C2 unit, with two phosphine-centered radicals, which is guided by the computational analysis with the artificial force induced reaction (AFIR) method, a quantum chemical calculation-based automated reaction path search tool. The obtained unsymmetric DPPE ligands can coordinate to several transition-metal salts to form the corresponding complexes, one of which exhibits distinctly different characteristics than the corresponding symmetric DPPE-metal complex.

Abstract
The first general synthesis of branched tetraenes ([4]dendralenes) involves two or three steps from inexpensive, commodity chemicals. It involves an unprecedented variation on Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling, generating two new C-C bonds in a one-flask operation with control of diastereoselectivity. The broad scope of the method is established through the synthesis of more than 60 diversely substituted [4]dendralene molecules, along with substituted buta-1,3-dienes and other [n]dendralenes. [4]Dendralenes are demonstrated to be significantly more kinetically stable than their well-known [3]dendralene counterparts. The first stereoselective synthesis of these compounds is also reported, through the catalyst-controlled generation of both E- and Z-diastereomeric products from the same precursor. Novel, through-conjugated/cross-conjugated hybrid molecules are introduced. The first selective dienophile cycloadditions to substituted [4]dendralenes are reported, thus paving the way for applications in target-oriented synthesis.

Abstract

Herein we disclose the synthesis of sterically encumbered
dialkylnickel(II)
complexes bearing 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligands. A comparison
with their unsubstituted analogues by both X-ray crystallography and
theoretical calculations revealed significant distortions in their
molecular structures. Eyring plots along with stoichiometric and photoexcitation
studies revealed that sterically encumbered dialkylnickel(II) complexes
enable facile C(sp3)–C(sp3) reductive elimination, thus offering an
improved understanding of Ni catalysis.

The presence of a permethylated α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) cavity in a chelating P,N ligand promotes exclusive formation of 1 : 1 ligand/metal complexes. In MX2 complexes, one of the two halido ligands is forced to reside inside the CD hollow while the second one is pointing outside. Unlike its cavity-free analogue, a Ni(II) complex of the CD ligand is a highly selective precatalyst for ethylene dimerisation (96% C4 selectivity with up to 95% of 1-butene within the C4 fraction).

Abstract
An Ir-catalyzed regioselective hydroamination of allyl amines using aryl amines and catalyst-controlled regiodivergent hydroamination of allylic and homoallylic amines with aniline nucleophiles are reported. The directed hydroamination reactions afford a variety of 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-diamines in good to excellent yields and high regio- and chemoselectivities. Mechanistic investigations suggests that the reactions are proceeding through an oxidative addition into the ArHN-H bond and that the observed regioselectivity is due to the selective formation of a 5- or 6-membered metalacyclic intermediate, depending on the catalyst employed.

Abstract
The biological and therapeutic significance of natural products is a powerful impetus for the development of efficient methods to facilitate their construction. Accordingly, and reflecting the prevalence of β-oxy-carbonyl motifs, a sophisticated arsenal of aldol-based strategies has evolved that is contingent on the generation of single enolate isomers. Since this has the potential to compromise efficiency in reagent-based paradigms, direct catalysis-based solutions would be enabling. To complement the array of substrate-based strategies, and regulate enolate geometry at the catalyst level, a direct catalytic alkylation of esters with oxyallenes has been developed. Synergizing metal hydride reactivity with Lewis base catalysis has resulted in a broad reaction scope with useful levels of stereocontrol (up to >99 % ee). Facile derivatization of these ambiphilic linchpins is demonstrated, providing access to high-value vicinal stereocenter-containing motifs, including 1,2-amino alcohols.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed regioselective Markovnikov 3,4-hydrosilylation of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes has been accomplished. A wide range of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes and trihydrosilanes are compatible under the optimal conditions. The bisphosphine ligand with a rigid backbone provides the Markovnikov 3,4-hydrosilylation product in better yield and selectivity. Besides, the synthetic utilities of the allylsilanes also were demonstrated by their flexible derivatizations.
