Abstract
Abstract
In this study, chiral bis(pyrazolyl)methane copper(I) acetonitrile complexes were applied to generate two novel terminal copper tosyl nitrene complexes with the nitrene generating agent SPhINTs in dichloromethane at low temperatures. The syntheses of the chiral bis(pyrazolyl)methane ligands are based on pulegone and camphor, members of the natural chiral pool. The chiral copper(I) acetonitrile complexes were applied as catalysts in the copper nitrene mediated aziridination reaction of different styrene derivatives and the C–H amination of various substrates. The reactions afforded good yields, but low enantiomeric excess under mild conditions. The nitrene species have been characterized with UV/Vis and EPR spectroscopy and the products of the decay by ESI mass spectrometry.

Abstract
Copper nitrene complexes are highly reactive species and are known as intermediates in the copper catalyzed C-H amination. In this study, three novel copper tosyl nitrene complexes were synthesized at low temperatures, stabilized with heteroscorpionate ligands of the bis(pyrazolyl)methane family. The copper nitrenes were obtained by the reaction of a copper(i) acetonitrile complex with SPhINTs in dichloromethane. We show that the ligand design has a major influence on the catalytic activity and the thermal stability of the copper nitrene complex. Not only the choice of the third N donor, but also the substituent in the 5-position of the pyrazolyl moiety, have an impact on the stability. Furthermore, the novel copper nitrene complexes were used for catalytic aziridination of styrenes and C-H amination reactions of aromatic and aliphatic substrates under mild reaction conditions. Even challenging substrates like benzene and cyclohexane were aminated with good yields. The copper nitrene complexes were characterized using UV/Vis spectroscopy, low temperature Evans NMR spectroscopy, density functional theory, domain-based local pair natural orbital coupled cluster calculations (DLPNO-CCSD(T)) and cryo-UHR mass spectrometry.

Abstract
Heteroscorpionate ligands of the bis(pyrazolyl)methane family have been applied in the stabilisation of terminal copper tosyl nitrenes. These species are highly active intermediates in the copper-catalysed direct C-H amination and nitrene transfer. Novel perfluoroalkyl-pyrazolyl- and pyridinyl-containing ligands were synthesized to coordinate to a reactive copper nitrene centre. Four distinct copper tosyl nitrenes were prepared at low temperatures by the reaction with SO2 tBuPhINTs and copper(I) acetonitrile complexes. Their stoichiometric reactivity has been elucidated regarding the imination of phosphines and the aziridination of styrenes. The formation and thermal decay of the copper nitrenes were investigated by UV/Vis spectroscopy of the highly coloured species. Additionally, the compounds were studied by cryo-UHR-ESI mass spectrometry and DFT calculations. In addition, a mild catalytic procedure has been developed where the copper nitrene precursors enable the C-H amination of cyclohexane and toluene and the aziridination of styrenes.

Abstract
A new reactivity pattern of Rh2(II)-N-arylnitrenes was discovered that facilitates the synthesis of medium-sized N-heterocycles from ortho-cyclobutanol-substituted aryl azides. The key ring-expansion step of the catalytic cycle is both chemoselective and stereospecific. Our mechanistic experiments implicate the formation of a rhodium N-arylnitrene catalytic intermediate and reveal that sp3 C-H bond amination of this electrophilic species is competitive with the ring-expansion process.

Abstract
The behavior of the Lewis-acid adducts of two copper-nitrene [Cu(NR)](+) complexes in nitrene-transfer and H-atom abstraction reactions have been demonstrated to depend on the nature of the nitrene substituents. Two-state reactivity, in which a singlet ground state and a nearby triplet excited-state both contribute, provides a useful model for interpreting reactivity trends of the two compounds.

Abstract
The X-ray crystal structure of [Ru(VI) (NMs)2 (tmp)] (Ms=SO2 - p-MeOC6 H4 ; tmp=5,10,15,20-tetramesitylporphyrinato(2-)), a metal sulfonylimide complex that can undergo alkene aziridination and C-H bond amination reactions, shows a Ru=N distance of 1.79(3) Å and Ru-N-S angle of 162.5(3)°. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations on the electronic structures of [Ru(VI) (NMs)2 (tmp)] and model complex [Ru(VI) (NMs)2 (por(0) )] (por(0) =unsubstituted porphyrinato(2-)) using the M06L functional gave results in agreement with experimental observations. For the amination of ethylbenzene by the singlet ground state of [Ru(VI) (NMs)2 (por(0))], DFT calculations using the M06L functional revealed an effectively concerted pathway involving rate-limiting hydrogen atom abstraction without a distinct radical rebound step. The substituent effect on the amination reactivity of ethylbenzene by [Ru(VI) (NX)2 (por(0) )] (X=SO2 -p-YC6 H4 with Y=MeO, Me, H, Cl, NO2 ) was examined. Electron-withdrawing Y groups lower the energy of the LUMOs of [Ru(VI) (NX)2 (por(0))], thus facilitating their interaction with the low-lying HOMO of the ethylbenzene C-H bond and hence increasing the reactivity of [Ru(VI) (NX)2 (por(0) )]. DFT calculations on the amination/aziridination reactions of [Ru(VI) (NSO2 C6 H5 )2 (por(0) )] with pent-4-enal, an aldehyde substrate bearing acyl, homoallylic, and allylic C-H bonds and a C=C bond, revealed a lower reaction barrier for the amination of the acyl C-H bond than for both the amination of the other C-H bonds and aziridination of the C=C bond in this substrate.

Abstract
High-valent copper-nitrene intermediates have long been proposed to play a role in copper-catalyzed aziridination and amination reactions. However, such intermediates have eluded detection for decades, preventing the unambiguous assignments of mechanisms. Moreover, the electronic structure of the proposed copper-nitrene intermediates has also been controversially discussed in the literature. These mechanistic questions and controversy have provided tremendous motivation to probe the accessibility and reactivity of Cu(III)-NR/Cu(II)N(•)R species. In this paper, we report a breakthrough in this field that was achieved by trapping a transient copper-tosylnitrene species, 3-Sc, in the presence of scandium triflate. The sufficient stability of 3-Sc at -90 °C enabled its characterization with optical, resonance Raman, NMR, and X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopies, which helped to establish its electronic structure as Cu(II)N(•)Ts (Ts = tosyl group) and not Cu(III)NTs. 3-Sc can initiate tosylamination of cyclohexane, thereby suggesting Cu(II)N(•)Ts cores as viable reactants in oxidation catalysis.
