Abstract
A new binuclear copper(ii) Schiff base complex [Cu2 L2− (NO3)2]·2CH3OH (1) [L = 2,6-bis((E)-(p-tolylimino)methyl)-4-methoxyphenol] was synthesized using a template method in which the tridentate N2O Schiff base ligand was derived from [1 + 2] condensation of 2,6-diformyl-4-methoxyphenol and p-methyl aniline in the presence of copper(ii) ions as the template agent. The X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that this complex crystallizes in the monoclinic system with space group P21/n. The most remarkable structural feature of 1 is that it contains two types of 1D right-handed helical chains. The molecules are linked by intermolecular hydrogen bonds and π⋯π interactions, then a 3D supramolecular network was constructed. Moreover, the intermolecular interactions on the crystal packing of 1 have been further studied using Hirshfeld surface analysis and corresponding 2D fingerprint plots. Binding interaction of this complex with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) has been investigated using absorption and emission studies, viscosity experiments and circular dichroism studies. Complex 1 shows significant binding to the DNA. The results of fluorescence spectroscopy and UV absorption spectroscopy, CD spectroscopy and viscosity indicated that this complex interacted with CT-DNA in a groove binding mode where the binding constant was 1.3 ± 0.2 × 104 L mol−1. Our fluorimeteric study showed that the reaction between 1 and CT-DNA was exothermic (ΔH = 59.6 kJ mol−1; ΔS = 268.79 J mol−1 K−1). Antibacterial activities of the complex were screened by the disc diffusion method against three Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 23212 and S. epidermidis ATCC 34384), and three Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 70063). The results indicated that this complex demonstrated acceptable antibacterial activities. A new binuclear copper(ii) Schiff base complex was synthesized using a template method in which the tridentate N2O Schiff base ligand was derived from [1 + 2] condensation of 2,6-diformyl-4-methoxyphenol and p-methyl aniline.![]()

Abstract
Two new one-dimensional (1D) vanadium(III) chalcogenidostannates, [H2tepa]0.5n[VIII(tepa)(μ-Sn2Q6)]n [Q = S (1), Se (2); tepa = tetraethylenepentamine], were achieved by solvothermal methods, which offer the first examples of organic hybrid polymeric chalcogenidostannates incorporating [V(tepa)]3+ complexes as bridging groups. Both 1 and 2 feature the 1D sinusoidal chains of [VIII(tepa)(μ-Sn2Q6)]n containing two types of novel bridging modes of the [μ-Sn2Q6]4- anion. Their magnetic, photocurrent response, and optical properties are also studied.

Abstract
A series of polymeric Mn(ii)-thioarsenates [Mn(en)3]n[(N2H4)2Mn6(μ6-S)(μ-N2H4)2(μ3-AsS3)4]n (1), [N2H5]n[{Mn(μ-N2H4)2(μ-AsS4)}·0.5en]n (2), [Mn(μ-trien){Mn(μ-N2H4)(μ-AsS3)}2]n (3), [{Mn(N2H4)}2(μ-N2H4)2{Mn(μ-N2H4)2(μ-AsS3)2}]n (4), [Mn3(μ-N2H4)6(μ3-AsS4)(μ2-AsS4)]n (5), and [Mn(NH3)6]n[{Mn(NH3)(μ-AsS4)}2]n (6) were synthesized using a hydrazine-solvothermal method. The thioarsenate units AsS3 and AsS4 coordinate to Mn(ii) ions with variable coordination modes, forming a Mn–As–S ternary cluster (1), chains (2, 4–6), and layers (3), respectively. The hydrazine molecules act as inter-cluster, intra-chain and intra-layer bridging ligands to join the Mn(ii) ions, resulting in hydrazine hybrid 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D Mn(ii)-thioarsenate moieties in 1–5. Compounds 1–6 exhibit tunable semiconducting band gaps varying in the range of 2.19–2.47 eV. Compound 1 displays stronger antiferromagnetic coupling interactions than that of compound 2. Mn(ii)-thioarsenates [Mn(en)3]n[Mn6S(N2H4)4(AsS3)4]n (1), [N2H5]n[{Mn(N2H4)2(AsS4)}·0.5en]n (2), [Mn(trien){Mn(N2H4)(AsS3)}2]n (3), [Mn3(N2H4)6(AsS3)2]n (4), [Mn3(N2H4)6(AsS4)2]n (5), and [Mn(NH3)6]n[{Mn(NH3)(AsS4)}2]n (6) were prepared in N2H4 by solvothermal methods.![]()

Abstract
Two types of lanthanide selenidostannates(iv) [Ln2(tepa)2(μ-OH)2Sn2Se6] {Ln = Y(), Pr (), Dy (), Er (), Tm (); tepa = tetraethylenepentamine} and [Ln2(tepa)2(μ2-OH)2Cl2]2[Sn4Se10]·4H2O {Ln = Y (), Dy (), Er (), Tm ()} have been synthesized under identical solvothermal conditions and characterized structurally. Type I (, , , and ) displays 1-D neutral chains [Ln2(tepa)2(μ-OH)2Sn2Se6]n, while type II (, , and ) contains discrete adamantane-like [Sn4Se10](4-) ions with binuclear lanthanide complex [Ln2(tepa)2(μ-OH)2Cl2](2+) ions as counterions. Although the solvothermal synthetic methods could result in the formation of various transition-metal chalcogenidometalates, such identical experimental conditions usually result in the only stable phases of lanthanide chalcogenidometalates. Hence, two different lanthanide selenidostannates(iv), obtained under same solvothermal conditions and starting materials, have been first observed in this work. The optical properties of all the compounds have been investigated by UV-vis spectra.

Abstract
Two novel manganese thioarsenates, {[Mn(2,2'-bipy)2(SCN)][Mn(2,2'-bipy)](As(V)S4)}2 (1, 2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine) and {[Mn(2,2'-bipy)2(SCN)]2[As(III)2(S2)2S2]} (2), containing thiocyanate-modified Mn-2,2'-bipy complex cations were synthesized. They feature two terminal [Mn(2,2'-bipy)2(SCN)](+) complex cations bridged by a polyanion {[Mn(2,2'-bipy)]2(As(V)S4)2}(2-) for 1 and a cyclic thioarsenate anion (As(III)2S6)(2-) for 2. In 2, the [As(III)2(S2)2S2](2-) anion can be described as two (As(III)S3)(3-) trigonal-pyramids interlinked through S-S bonds. The method to obtain new metal complex cations shown here, introducing an anionic second ligand to modify the number of coordination sites and the charges of the metal complex cations simultaneously, is different from the traditional methods, varying either the TM center or the organic ligand or employing mixed neutral organic ligands, and may open up a new route for preparing novel chalcogenidometalates. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibit wide optical gaps of 2.20 and 2.67 eV, respectively, and photoluminescence with the emission maxima occurring around 440 nm. Magnetic measurements show the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions between Mn(II) centers in the two compounds.
