Abstract
Two inorganic-organic hybrid complexes based on bi-capped Keggin-type cluster, {([CuII(2,2'-bpy)2]2[PMoVI8VV2VIV2O40(VIVO)2])[CuI(2,2'-bpy)]}∙2H2O (1) and {[CuII(2,2'-bpy)2]2[SiMoVI8.5MoV2.5VIVO40(VIVO)2]}[CuI0.5(2,2'-bpy)(H2O)0.5] (2) (bpy = bipyridine), had been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, TGA, PXRD and X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. Compound 1 consists of a novel 1-D chain structure constructed from [CuI(2,2'-bpy)]+ unit linking bi-supported POMs anion {[CuII(2,2'-bpy)2]2[PMoVI8VV2VIV2O40(VIVO)2]}-. Compound 2 is a bi-capped Keggin cluster bi-supported Cu-bpy complex. The main highlights of the two compounds are that Cu-bpy cations contain both CuI and CuII complexes. Furthermore, the fluorescence properties, the catalytic properties, and the photocatalytic performance of compounds 1 and 2 have been assessed, and the results show that both compounds are active for styrene epoxidation and degradation and adsorption of Methylene blue (MB), Rhodamine B (RhB) and mixed aqueous solutions.

Efficient Diesel Desulfurization by Novel Amphiphilic Polyoxometalate-Based Hybrid Catalyst at Room Temperature. Molecules 2023; 28:molecules28062539. [PMID: 36985510 PMCID: PMC10054139 DOI: 10.3390/molecules28062539] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/09/2023] [Revised: 03/07/2023] [Accepted: 03/09/2023] [Indexed: 03/17/2023] Open
Abstract
Amphiphilic hybrid catalysts were prepared by modifying [SMo12O40]2− with tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazole bromide (BMIMBr) and octadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (ODAB), respectively. The prepared catalysts were characterized by IR, XRD, SEM, TG and XPS. The desulfurization performance of the catalysts was investigated in model oil and actual diesel using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an oxidant and acetonitrile as an extractant. All catalysts exhibited favorable activity for removing sulfur compounds at room temperature. Dibenzothiophene (DBT) can be nearly completely removed using SMo12O402−-organic catalysts within a short reaction time. For different sulfur compounds, the [TBA]2SMo12O40 catalyst showed a better removal effect than the [BMIM]2SMo12O40 and [ODA]2SMo12O40 catalyst. The [TBA]2SMo12O40 dissolved in extraction solvent could be reused up to five times in an oxidative desulfurization (ODS) cycle with no significant loss of activity. The [BMIM]2SMo12O40 performed as a heterogeneous catalyst able to be recycled from the ODS system and maintained excellent catalytic activity. The catalysts showed a positive desulfurization effect in real diesel treatment. Finally, we described the ODS desulfurization mechanism of DBT using SMo12O402−-organic hybrid catalysts. The amphiphilic hybrid catalyst cation captures DBT, while SMo12O402− reacts with the oxidant H2O2 to produce peroxy-active species. DBT can be oxidized to its sulfone by the action of peroxy-active species to achieve ODS desulfurization.

Abstract
AbstractThis paper presents the synthesis of two cluster compounds {(NH4)2[Co(H2O)6]2V10O28·4H2O (C1) and (NH4)2[Ni(H2O)6]2V10O28·4H2O (C2)} which were obtained as single crystals suitable for XRD analysis that revealed their crystallization in the monoclinic (C2/c) and triclinic (P-1) space groups, respectively. Additionally, C1 and C2 were characterized using CHN analysis and FT-IR spectroscopy and their thermal decomposition mechanisms were investigated. The antibacterial activities of both compounds were determined against three human pathogenic bacterial strains {Bacillus cereus ATCC 33,018, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027} and one phytopathogenic bacterial strain {Ralstonia solanacearum}, while drug standards {chloramphenicol and streptomycin} were used as control. The inhibitory activity and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of the tested compounds clearly indicated higher antibacterial activities of the nickel compound against B. cereus ATCC 33,018, E. coli O157 and R. solanacearum with MIC values of 3.150, 3.150 and 6.300 mg/ml, respectively. On the other hand, (NH4)2[Co(H2O)6]2V10O28·4H2O exhibited higher antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa ATCC 9027 (MIC value of 6.300 mg/ml) in comparison to the nickel analog. In general, the measured activities are lower than that obtained for the standards except for the higher activity given by C2 in comparison to streptomycin against the R. solanacearum strain.

Abstract
Three compounds based on Ge-V-O clusters were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR, UV-Vis, XRD, ESR, elemental analysis and X-ray crystal structural analysis. Both [Cd(phen)(en)]2[Cd2(phen)2V12O40Ge8(OH)8(H2O)]∙12.5H2O (1) and [Cd(DETA)]2[Cd(DETA)2]0.5[Cd2(phen)2V12O41Ge8(OH)7(0.5H2O)]∙7.5H2O (2) (1,10-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, en = ethylenediamine, DETA = diethylenetriamine) are the first Ge-V-O cluster compounds containing aromatic organic ligands. Compound 1 is the first dimer of Ge-V-O clusters, which is linked by a double bridge of two [Cd(phen)(en)]2+. Compound 2 exhibits an unprecedented 1-D chain structure formed by Ge-V-O clusters and [Cd2(DETA)2]4+ transition metal complexes (TMCs). [Cd(en)3]{[Cd(η2-en)2]3[Cd(η2-en)(η2-μ2-en)(η2-en)Cd][Ge6V15O48(H2O)]}∙5.5H2O (3) is a novel 3-D structure which is constructed from [Ge6V15O48(H2O)]12− and four different types of TMCs. We also synthesized [Zn2(enMe)3][Zn(enMe)]2[Zn(enMe)2(H2O)]2[Ge6V15O48(H2O)]∙3H2O (4) and [Cd(en)2]2{H8[Cd(en)]2Ge8V12O48(H2O)}∙6H2O (5) (enMe = 1,2-propanediamine), which have been reported previously. In addition, the catalytic properties of these five compounds for styrene epoxidation have been assessed.

Abstract
Heteropoly acids were used as catalysts for cyclodehydration of various 1,n-diols. Cyclodehydration of butane-1,4-diol, pentane-1,5-diol and hexane-1,6-diol catalysed by H3PW12O40 gave tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydropyran and oxepane, respectively. Cyclodehydration of diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, diethylene glycol monomethyl ether and polyethylene glycol 200 catalysed by H3PW12O40 gave 1,4-dioxane. In particular, cyclodehydration of hexane-1,6-diol gave an excellent yield of oxepane (80%). The selectivity exhibited by the H3PW12O40 catalyst was even better than that exhibited by other reported catalyst systems for similar cyclodehydration reactions.

Abstract
Enrichment of molecular photosensitizers and catalysts in a confined nanospace is conducive for photocatalytic reactions due to improved photoexcited electron transfer from photosensitizers to catalysts. Herein, the self-assembly of a highly stable 3D supramolecular organic framework from a rigid bipyridine-derived tetrahedral monomer and cucurbit[8]uril in water, and its efficient and simultaneous intake of both [Ru(bpy)3 ]2+ -based photosensitizers and various polyoxometalates, that can take place at very low loading, are reported. The enrichment substantially increases the apparent concentration of both photosensitizer and catalyst in the interior of the framework, which leads to a recyclable, homogeneous, visible light-driven photocatalytic system with 110-fold increase of the turnover number for the hydrogen evolution reaction.

Abstract
The spice flavour compound 2, 2'-difurfuryl ether (DFE) is widely utilised in the food industry as it has a coffee-like, nutty, earthy, mushroom-like odour. However, despite intensive research efforts, to date, an environmentally friendly and practical synthetic preparation technique for 2, 2'-difurfuryl ether is still unavailable. Here, we investigate a new approach using polyoxometalate catalysts to selectively catalytically dehydrate furfuryl alcohol to 2, 2'-difurfuryl ether. We have successfully applied this methodology using the polyoxometalate (POMs) catalyst {[(CH3CH2CH2CH2)4N]2[SMo12O40]} to produce 2,2'-difurfuryl ether in a 30.86% isolated yield.

Abstract
Two vanadium(V)-substituted tungsto-polyoxometalate isomers, 1- and 4-[S2VW17O62](5-), were prepared as their tetra-alkyl ammonium salts from a W(VI)-H2SO4-V(V) reaction mixture in aqueous CH3CN solution. X-ray crystallographic structural analysis revealed that both isomers have a Wells-Dawson-type structure with a higher occupancy of vanadium at polar sites and belt sites for 1- and 4-[S2VW17O62](5-), respectively. The isomers were also characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, Raman, UV-vis, and (51)V NMR spectroscopies as well as voltammetry, and the data obtained were compared with that derived from [S2W18O62](4-). Significantly, the reversible potentials for the vanadium(V/IV) couple for both 1- and 4-[S2VW17O62](5-) in CH3CN (0.1 M n-Bu4NPF6) are considerably more positive than the tungstate reduction process exhibited by the [S2W18O62](4-) framework, implying that the presence of vanadium should be useful in catalytic reactions. The one-electron-reduced [S2V(IV)W17O62](6-) forms of both isomers were prepared in solution by controlled potential bulk electrolysis and characterized by voltammetry and EPR spectroscopy.

Abstract
Two new tetra-Cd(II)-substituted vanadogermanate frameworks {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)[V(III)(H2O)2]4(GeO2)4}·8H2O (X = ethylenediamine (en, 1) and 1,2-diaminopropane (dap, 2)) were hydrothermally prepared and characterized by IR spectra, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Both are isomorphic, and their 3-D frameworks are made up of tetra-Cd(II)-substituted {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)}(12-) fundamental building units interconnected through planar tetra-V(III) [V(III)4O2(H2O)8](8-) clusters and tetrahedral GeO4 bridges. In the unique {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)}(12-) cage, four [Ge2O7] dimers and four CdO4N2 trigonal prisms are alternately concatenated by μ3-O bridges to create a round {Ge8Cd4O28(X)4}(16-) fragment, five VO5 groups are linked by sharing edges to generate a pentanuclear [V5O17] subunit, and then the {Ge8Cd4O28(X)4}(16-) fragment is sandwiched by two V5O17 subunits via sharing O-atoms producing a D4h-symmetric {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46(H2O)}(12-) cage with a free water molecule located at the center. As we know, both display unprecedented 3-D organic-inorganic hybrid frameworks built up from the largest number of transition-metal-substituted vanadogermanate {(CdX)4Ge8V(IV)10O46}(12-) cluster shells linked by both GeO4 tetrahedra and rare [V(III)4O2(H2O)8](8-) clusters. Magnetic measurements reveal the antiferromagnetic couplings within the magnetic vanadium centers.

Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POMs) have remarkable properties and a great deal of potential to meet contemporary societal demands regarding health, environment, energy and information technologies. However, implementation of POMs in various functional architectures, devices or materials requires a processing step. Most developments have considered the exchange of POM counterions in an electrostatically driven approach: immobilization of POMs on electrodes and other surfaces including oxides, embedding in polymers, incorporation into Layer-by-Layer assemblies or Langmuir-Blodgett films and hierarchical self-assembly of surfactant-encapsulated POMs have thus been thoroughly investigated. Meanwhile, the field of organic-inorganic POM hybrids has expanded and offers the opportunity to explore the covalent approach for the organization or immobilization of POMs. In this critical review, we focus on the use of POM hybrids in selected fields of applications such as catalysis, energy conversion and molecular nanosciences and we endeavor to discuss the impact of the covalent approach compared to the electrostatic one. The synthesis of organic-inorganic POM hybrids starting from bare POMs, that is the direct functionalization of POMs, is well documented and reliable and efficient synthetic procedures are available. However, as the complexity of the targeted functional system increases a multi-step strategy relying on the post-functionalization of preformed hybrid POM platforms could prove more appealing. In the second part of this review, we thus survey the synthetic methodologies of post-functionalization of POMs and critically discuss the opportunities it offers compared to direct functionalization.

Abstract
The title compound, (C(2)H(10)N(2))(3)(C(2)H(9)N(2))(2)[Mo(5)(HPO(4))(2)O(15)]·10H(2)O, was prepared under hydro-thermal conditions at pH 5.0. The structure contains mono- and diprotonated ethyl-enediamine cations, [Mo(5)O(15)(HPO(4))(2)](4-) anions and uncoord-in-ated water mol-ecules. The [Mo(5)O(15)(HPO(4))(2)](4-) hetero-poly-oxometallate anion is made up of five MoO(6) octa-hedra sharing an edge and forming a ring, which is closed by common corners of the terminal MoO(6) octa-hedron. The ring is topped on both sides by two slightly distorted PO(4) tetra-hedra, sharing three corners with three MoO(6) octa-hedra. The terminal oxygen atoms of the PO(4) units are protonated. Together with the anions, the water mol-ecules and the ethyl-enediammonium cations are involved in N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.
