Abstract
Despite the potential for their application, the magnetic behavior of complexes containing 4d and 5d metal ions is underexplored, evidencing the need for benchmark multi-technique studies on simple molecules. We report here a structural and magnetic study on osmium(III) acetylacetonate [Os(acac)3]. X-ray single crystal diffraction did not allow us to determine the structure of the β-polymorph of [Os(acac)3]. The combined magnetic (dc magnetic measurements on powder and cantilever torque magnetometry on single crystal) and spectroscopic (electron paramagnetic resonance, EPR) characterization is here used to provide further evidence that its structure is indeed the one of the orthorhombic "missing polymorph", analogous to the ruthenium(III) derivative. Our study shows that all acetylacetonate complexes of the eighth group of the periodic table show dimorphism and are isomorphic. The EPR characterization allowed the experimental assessment of the easy axis nature of the ground doublet and the determination of the first hyperfine coupling in an osmium complex. Torque magnetometry, applied here for the first time on an osmium-based molecule, determined the orientation of the easy axis along the pseudo C3 axis of the complex. Ac magnetometric measurements revealed in-field slow relaxation of the magnetization further slowed by the suppression of dipolar fields via magnetic dilution in the isostructural gallium(III) analogue.

Abstract
Since the last century, we have witnessed the development of molecular magnetism which deals with magnetic materials based on molecular species, i.e., organic radicals and metal complexes. Among them, the broadest attention was devoted to molecule-based ferro-/ferrimagnets, spin transition materials, including those exploring electron transfer, molecular nanomagnets, such as single-molecule magnets (SMMs), molecular qubits, and stimuli-responsive magnetic materials. Their physical properties open the application horizons in sensors, data storage, spintronics, and quantum computation. It was found that various optical phenomena, such as thermochromism, photoswitching of magnetic and optical characteristics, luminescence, nonlinear optical and chiroptical effects, as well as optical responsivity to external stimuli, can be implemented into molecule-based magnetic materials. Moreover, the fruitful interactions of these optical effects with magnetism in molecule-based materials can provide new physical cross-effects and multifunctionality, enriching the applications in optical, electronic, and magnetic devices. This Review aims to show the scope of optical phenomena generated in molecule-based magnetic materials, including the recent advances in such areas as high-temperature photomagnetism, optical thermometry utilizing SMMs, optical addressability of molecular qubits, magneto-chiral dichroism, and opto-magneto-electric multifunctionality. These findings are discussed in the context of the types of optical phenomena accessible for various classes of molecule-based magnetic materials.

Abstract
Treatment of Co(OTf)2·6H2O, Li[(pzTp)FeIII(CN)3], and H3PMo12O40·nH2O in protic solvents afforded two structurally related Fe-Co cyanometallate complexes: [{(pzTp)Fe(CN)3}3Co3(MeOH)10][PMo12O40]·H2O·11MeOH (1, pzTp- = tetra(pyrazolyl)borate) and {[(pzTp)Fe(CN)3]4Co3(MeOH)5(H2O)3}n[HPMo12O40]n·3 nMeOH·6.5nH2O (2). Complex 1 consists of a cyanide-bridged hexanuclear [Fe3Co3] cage, characterized by the fused conjunction of two mutually perpendicular trigonal bipyramids (TBPs, [Fe2Co3] and [Co2Fe3]), while complex 2 showcases an intricate cyanide-bridged Fe-Co tape comprising a central chain backbone of vertex-sharing [Fe2Co3] TBPs alongside peripheral [Fe2Co2] squares. Complex 2 is among the widest one-dimensional coordination assemblies characterized by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. Magnetic studies revealed that complex 2 behaved as a single chain magnet with an effective energy barrier (Ueff/kB) of 46.8 K. Our findings highlight the possibilities in the development of cyanometallate-POM hybrid materials with captivating magnetic properties.

Abstract
We report a method for synthesizing single-molecule magnets through a single-crystal to single-crystal transformation. This process yields two single-molecule magnets with similar triangular Dy3 cores but distinct solvents and space groups achieved via solvent exchange. Magnetic properties reveal that both Dy3 molecules exhibit similar toroidal moments but manifest diverse multiple magnetization dynamic behaviors owing to the spin-lattice coupling influence from different solvent molecules.

Abstract
Extending a selected cyanometalate block into a higher dimensional framework continues to present intriguing challenges in the fields of chemistry and material science. Here, we prepared two rope-like chain compounds of {[(Tp*Me)Fe(CN)3]2Cu2X2(L)}·sol (1, X = Cl, L = (MeCN)0.5(H2O/MeOH)0.5, sol = 2MeCN·1.5H2O; 2, X = Br, L = MeOH, sol = 2MeCN·0.75H2O; Tp*Me = tris(3, 4, 5-trimethylpyrazole)borate) in which the cyanide-bridged trigonal-bipyramidal [Fe2Cu3] subunits were linked with the adjacent ones via two vertex Cu(II) centers, providing a new cyanometallate chain archetype. Direct current magnetic study revealed the presence of ferromagnetic couplings between Fe(III) and Cu(II) ions and uniaxial anisotropy due to a favorable alignment of the anisotropic tricyanoiron(III) units. Moreover, compound 1 exhibits single-chain magnet behavior with an appreciable energy barrier of 72 K, while 2 behaves as a metamagnet, likely caused by the subtle changes in the interchain interactions.

Abstract
A novel bis-bidentate nitronyl nitroxide radical based on triazolopyrimidine, NIT-2-TrzPm (NIT-2-TrzPm = (2-(2'-triazolopyrimidine)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-1-oxy-3-oxide)) and six new transition metal complexes of this ligand, namely [M(hfac)2(NIT-2-TrzPm)]·CH2Cl2 (M = Mn (1Mn) and Co (2Co)), [M(hfac)2]2(NIT-2-TrzPm) (M = Mn (3Mn) and Co (4Co)), [Mn(NIT-2-TrzPm)2(MeOH)2](ClO4)2·MeOH (5Mn), and [Co(NIT-2-TrzPm)2(MeOH)2]2(ClO4)4·4MeOH (6Co) were prepared and characterized structurally and magnetically. These complexes can be selectively synthesized by controlling the reaction ratio of M(hfac)2·2H2O to the radical ligand (for 1Mn to 4Co) or using metal perchlorates as the starting materials (for 5Mn and 6Co). Single crystal X-ray crystallographic analyses confirmed that 1Mn and 2Co are isostructural 3d-2p MII-radical complexes, in which the NIT-2-TrzPm radical acts as a terminal bidentate ligand chelating to one 3d ion, while 3Mn and 4Co are isostructural 3d-2p-3d MII-radical-MII complexes with the NIT-2-TrzPm radical acting as a bridging ligand between two 3d ions. For complexes 5Mn and 6Co, two NIT-2-TrzPm ligands from the equatorial positions coordinate with the metal center to form the 2p-3d-2p structures with the axial positions occupied by two methanol molecules. Magnetic analysis on the MnII complexes revealed the existence of a strong antiferromagnetic interaction between the MnII and the NIT radical spin, while weak ferromagnetic coupling for Mn⋯Mn and Rad⋯Rad in the Mn-NIT-Mn and Rad-Mn-Rad spins was confirmed. Interestingly, although the NIT-bridged complexes 3Mn and 4Co possess significantly different magnetic anisotropy, field-induced slow magnetic relaxation can be observed in both complexes, which was assigned to the phonon bottleneck effect for 3Mn and field-induced SMM behavior for 4Co. To the best of our knowledge, 3Mn is the first example of the NIT-bridged binuclear MnII complex undergoing slow magnetic relaxation.

Abstract
Two novel 1D heterobimetallic compounds {[MnIII(SB2+)MIII(CN)6]·4H2O}n (SB2+ = N,N'-ethylenebis(5-trimethylammoniomethylsalicylideneiminate) based on orbitally degenerate cyanidometallates [OsIII(CN)6]3- (1) and [RuIII(CN)6]3- (2) and MnIII Schiff base complex were synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically. Their crystal structures consist of electrically neutral, well-isolated chains composed of alternating [MIII(CN)6]3- anions and square planar [MnIII(SB2+)]3+ cations bridged by cyanide groups. These -ion magnetic anisotropy of MnIII centers. These results indicate that the presence of compounds exhibit single-chain magnet (SCM) behavior with the energy barriers of Δτ1/kB = 73 K, Δτ2/kB = 41.5 K (1) and Δτ1/kB = 51 K, Δτ2 = 27 K (2). Blocking temperatures of TB = 2.8, 2.1 K and magnetic hysteresis with coercive fields (at 1.8 K) of 8000, 1600 Oe were found for 1 and 2, respectively. Theoretical analysis of the magnetic data reveals that their single-chain magnet behavior is a product of a complicated interplay of extremely anisotropic triaxial exchange interactions in MIII(4d/5d)-CN-MnIII fragments: -JxSMxSMnx-JySMySMny-JzSMzSMnz, with opposite sign of exchange parameters Jx = -22, Jy = +28, Jz = -26 cm-1 and Jx = -18, Jy = +20, Jz = -18 cm-1 in 1 and 2, respectively) and single orbitally degenerate [OsIII(CN)6]3- and [RuIII(CN)6]3- spin units with unquenched orbital angular momentum in the chain compounds 1 and 2 leads to a peculiar regime of slow magnetic relaxation, which is beyond the scope of the conventional Glaubers's 1D Ising model and anisotropic Heisenberg model.

Abstract
A combination of inelastic neutron scattering (INS), far-IR magneto-spectroscopy (FIRMS), and Raman magneto-spectroscopy (RaMS) has been used to comprehensively probe magnetic excitations in Co(AsPh3)2I2 (1), a reported single-molecule magnet (SMM). With applied field, the magnetic zero-field splitting (ZFS) peak (2D') shifts to higher energies in each spectroscopy. INS placed the ZFS peak at 54 cm-1, as revealed by both variable-temperature (VT) and variable-magnetic-field data, giving results that agree well with those from both far-IR and Raman studies. Both FIRMS and RaMS also reveal the presence of multiple spin-phonon couplings as avoided crossings with neighboring phonons. Here, phonons refer to both intramolecular and lattice vibrations. The results constitute a rare case in which the spin-phonon couplings are observed with both Raman-active (g modes) and far-IR-active phonons (u modes; space group P21/c, no. 14, Z = 4 for 1). These couplings are fit using a simple avoided crossing model with coupling constants of ca. 1-2 cm-1. The combined spectroscopies accurately determine the magnetic excited level and the interaction of the magnetic excitation with phonon modes. Density functional theory (DFT) phonon calculations compare well with INS, allowing for the assignment of the modes and their symmetries. Electronic calculations elucidate the nature of ZFS in the complex. Features of different techniques to determine ZFS and other spin-Hamiltonian parameters in transition-metal complexes are summarized.

Abstract
A new dysprosium (III) coordination polymer [Dy(Hm-dobdc) (H2O)2]·H2O (Dy-CP), was hydrothermal synthesized based on 4,6-dioxido-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate (H4m-dobdc) ligand containing carboxyl and phenolic hydroxyl groups. The Dy(III) center adopts an octa-coordinated [DyO8] geometry, which can be described as a twisted square antiprism (D4d symmetry). Neighboring Dy(III) ions are interconnected by deprotonated Hm-dobdc3− ligand to form the two-dimensional infinite layers, which are further linked to generate three-dimensional structure through abundant hydrogen bonds mediated primarily by coordinated and lattice H2O molecules. Magnetic studies demonstrates that Dy-CP shows the field-induced slow relaxation of magnetization and the energy barrier Ueff/kB and relaxation time τ0 are 35.3 K and 1.31 × 10–6 s, respectively. Following the vehicular mechanism, Dy-CP displays proton conductivity with σ equal to 7.77 × 10–8 S cm−1 at 353 K and 30%RH. Moreover, luminescence spectra reveal that H4m-dobdc can sensitize characteristic luminescence of Dy(III) ion. Herein, good magnetism, proton conduction, and luminescence are simultaneously achieved, and thus, Dy-CP is a potential multifunctional coordination polymer material.

Abstract
A unique type of Cu2/O2 adduct with orthogonal (close to 90°) Cu-O-O-Cu arrangement has been proposed for initial stages of O2 binding at biological type III dicopper sites, and targeted ligand design has now allowed us to emulate such an adduct in a pyrazolate-based μ-η1 :η1-peroxodicopper(II) complex (2) with Cu-O-O-Cu torsion φ of 87°, coined ⊥ P intermediate. Full characterization of 2, including X-ray diffraction (d O-O = 1.452 Å) and Raman spectroscopy (ν̃O-O = 807 cm-1), completes a series of closely related Cu2/O2 intermediates featuring μ-η1 :η1-peroxodicopper(II) cores with φ ranging from 55° (A, cis-peroxo C P; Brinkmeier A.et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc.2021, 143, 10361) via 87° (2, ⊥ P type) up to 104° (B, approaching trans-peroxo T P; Kindermann N.et al., Angew. Chem., Int. Ed.2015, 54, 1738). SQUID magnetometry revealed ferromagnetic interaction of the CuII ions and a triplet (S t = 1) ground state in 2. Frequency-domain THz-EPR has been employed to quantitatively investigate the spin systems of 2 and B. Magnetic transitions within the triplet ground states confirmed their substantial zero-field splittings (ZFS) suggested by magnetometry. Formally forbidden triplet-to-singlet transitions at 56 (2) and 157 cm-1 (B), which are in agreement with the exchange coupling strengths J iso inferred from SQUID data, are reported for the first time for coupled dicopper(II) complexes. Rigorous analysis by spin-Hamiltonian-based simulations attributed the corresponding nonzero transition probabilities and the ZFS to substantial antisymmetric (Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya) exchange d and provided robust values and orientations for the d , J , and g tensors. These interactions can be correlated with the Cu-O-O-Cu geometries, revealing a linear increase of J iso with the Cu-O-O-Cu torsion and a strong linear decrease with the Cu-O-O angle. Relevance of the ⊥ P intermediate for O2 activation at type III dicopper sites and a potential role of antisymmetric exchange in the concomitant intersystem crossing are proposed.

Abstract
A tetranuclear dysprosium Schiff base complex was isolated by reacting dysprosium chloride with 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde and 2-(aminomethyl)pyridine in-situ under basic conditions. The isolated Dy(III) complex was characterized by elemental analyses, single crystal X-ray diffraction and molecular spectroscopy. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1 with unit cell parameters of a = 10.2003 (4), b = 13.8602 (5), c = 14.9542 (6), α = 94.523 (3), β = 109.362 (4), and γ = 99.861 (3). The magnetic properties of 1 have been investigated by DC and AC susceptibility measurements. The DC measurements reveal weak exchange coupling of antiferromagnetic nature. In the AC measurement, the complex shows a slow relaxation of magnetization in the absence of an external magnetic field.

Abstract
Single-Molecule Magnet (SMM) property is by essence molecular, while commonly measured in solid crystalline state. Solvent crystallization molecules are usually neglected in the analysis and interpretation of solid-state properties. The solvation/desolvation process in the polyoxometalate(POM)-based Na9 [Er(W5 O18 )2 ] ⋅ 35 H2 O SMM demonstrates that the dehydrated form relaxes more than 1000 times faster than the initial state, while the rehydration process allows the quasi complete recovering of the initial magnetic behaviour. This dehydration process is monitored by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and temperature-dependent X-ray powder diffraction, and rationalized by periodic quantum chemical calculations evidencing the tremendous role of the labile water molecules in the stability of the edifice. Ab-initio calculations highlight that sodium ions localization in the structure drive the magnetic responses. Isotopic enrichment with nuclear spin free (166 Er, I=0) ErIII ions shows that the relaxation dynamics in the quantum regime depends on the nuclear spin.

Abstract
The production of photo-switchable molecular nanomagnets with substantial coercivity, which is indispensable for information storage and process applications, is challenging. Introducing photo-responsive spin-crossover units provides a feasible means of controlling the magnetic anisotropy, interactions, and overall nanomagnet properties. Herein, we report a cyanide-bridged chain 1⋅12H2 O ({[(Pz Tp)FeIII (CN)3 ]2 FeII (Pmat)2 }n ⋅12 H2 O) generated by linking the FeII -based spin-crossover unit with the [(Pz Tp)Fe(CN)3 ]- (Pz Tp: tetrakis(pyrazolyl)borate) building block in the presence of asymmetric ditopic ligand Pmat ((4-pyridine-4-yl)methyleneamino-1,2,4-triazole). Structural characterization revealed that the introduction of this asymmetric ligand led to a distorted coordination environment of FeII ions, which were equatorially coordinated by four cyanide N atoms, and apically coordinated by one pyridine N atom and one triazole N atom. Upon 808-nm light irradiation, 1⋅12H2 O underwent photoinduced spin-crossover and exhibited single-chain magnet behavior with a coercive field of up to 1.3 T. This represents a 3d-based photoinduced single-chain magnet exhibiting pronounced hysteresis.

Abstract
The metal-metal-bonded molecule [Bu4N][(HL)2Fe6(dmf)2] (Fe6) was previously shown to possess a thermally isolated spin S = 19/2 ground state and found to exhibit slow magnetization relaxation below a blocking temperature of ∼5 K [J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2015, 137, 13949-13956]. Here, we present a comprehensive spectroscopic investigation of this unique single-molecule magnet (SMM), combining ultrawideband field-swept high-field electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) with frequency-domain Fourier-transform terahertz EPR to accurately quantify the spin Hamiltonian parameters of Fe6. Of particular importance is the near absence of a 4th-order axial zero-field splitting term, which is known to arise because of quantum mechanical mixing of spin states on account of the relatively weak spin-spin (superexchange) interactions in traditional polynuclear SMMs such as the celebrated Mn12-acetate. The combined high-resolution measurements on both powder samples and an oriented single crystal provide a quantitative measure of the isolated nature of the spin ground state in the Fe6 molecule, as well as additional microscopic insights into factors that govern the quantum tunneling of its magnetization. This work suggests strategies for improving the performance of polynuclear SMMs featuring direct metal-metal bonds and strong ferromagnetic spin-spin (exchange) interactions.

Abstract
Functional molecule-based solids built of metal complexes can reveal a great impact of external stimuli upon their optical, magnetic, electric, and mechanical properties. We report a novel molecular material, {[EuIII(H2O)3(pyrone)4][CoIII(CN)6]}·nH2O (1, n = 2; 2, n = 1), which was obtained by the self-assembly of Eu3+ and [Co(CN)6]3- ions in the presence of a small 2-pyrrolidinone (pyrone) ligand in an aqueous medium. The as-synthesized material, 1, consists of dinuclear cyanido-bridged {EuCo} molecules accompanied by two H-bonded water molecules. By lowering the relative humidity (RH) below 30% at room temperature, 1 undergoes a single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation related to the partial removal of crystallization water molecules which results in the new crystalline phase, 2. Both 1 and 2 solvates exhibit pronounced EuIII-centered visible photoluminescence. However, they differ in the energy splitting of the main emission band of a 5D0 → 7F2 origin, and the emission lifetime, which is longer in the partially dehydrated 2. As the 1 ↔ 2 structural transformation can be repeatedly reversed by changing the RH value, the reported material shows a room-temperature switching of detailed luminescent features including the ratio between emission components and the emission lifetime values.

Abstract
With the motivation of controlling a magnetic switch by external stimuli, we report here an infinite chain structure formed from the secondary building units of Cu3Tb2 clusters through the linkage of nitrate ions. It behaves as a molecule-based magnet with the highest energy barrier among isolated Tb/Cu-based single-molecule magnets and single-chain magnets, which is close to a dimer of a Cu3Tb2 cluster unit from a magnetic point as revealed by its correlation length of 2.23 Cu3Tb2 units. This kind of molecule-based magnet in a chain structure is rare. The removal of its guest ethanol molecules leads to the complete disappearance of slow magnetic relaxation behavior. Interestingly, the capture and removal of guest ethanol molecules are reversible, mediating a rare ON/OFF switching of a 3d-4f heterometallic molecule-based magnet, which was interpreted by the theoretical calculations based on the structural difference upon desolvation.

Abstract
Although 1,2,4,5-tetrazines or s-tetrazines have been known in the literature for more than a century, their coordination chemistry has become increasingly popular in recent years due to their unique redox activity, multiple binding sites and their various applications. The electron-poor character of the ring and stabilization of the radical anion through all four nitrogen atoms in their metal complexes provide new aspects in molecular magnetism towards the synthesis of new high performing Single Molecule Magnets (SMMs). The scope of this review is to examine the role of s-tetrazine radical ligands in transition metal and lanthanide based SMMs and provide a critical overview of the progress thus far in this field. As well, general synthetic routes and new insights for the preparation of s-tetrazines are discussed, along with their redox activity and applications in various fields. Concluding remarks along with the limitations and perspectives of these ligands are discussed.

Abstract
Molecular magnetism has made a long journey, from the fundamental studies on through-ligand electron exchange magnetic interactions in dinuclear metal complexes with extended organic bridges to the more recent exploration of their electron spin transport and quantum coherence properties. Such a field has witnessed a renaissance of dinuclear metallacyclic systems as new experimental and theoretical models for single-molecule spintronics and quantum computing, due to the intercrossing between molecular magnetism and metallosupramolecular chemistry. The present review reports a state-of-the-art overview as well as future perspectives on the use of oxamato-based dicopper(II) metallacyclophanes as promising candidates to make multifunctional and multiresponsive, single-molecule magnetic (nano)devices for the physical implementation of quantum information processing (QIP). They incorporate molecular magnetic couplers, transformers, and wires, controlling and facilitating the spin communication, as well as molecular magnetic rectifiers, transistors, and switches, exhibiting a bistable (ON/OFF) spin behavior under external stimuli (chemical, electronic, or photonic). Special focus is placed on the extensive research work done by Professor Francesc Lloret, an outstanding chemist, excellent teacher, best friend, and colleague, in recognition of his invaluable contributions to molecular magnetism on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

Abstract
There has been a renaissance in the interdisciplinary field of Molecular Magnetism since ~2000, due to the discovery of the impressive properties and potential applications of d- and f-metal Single-Molecule Magnets (SMMs) and Single-Ion Magnets (SIMs) or Monometallic Single-Molecule Magnets. One of the consequences of this discovery has been an explosive growth in synthetic molecular inorganic and organometallic chemistry. In SMM and SIM chemistry, inorganic and organic ligands play a decisive role, sometimes equally important to that of the magnetic metal ion(s). In SMM chemistry, bridging ligands that propagate strong ferromagnetic exchange interactions between the metal ions resulting in large spin ground states, well isolated from excited states, are preferable; however, antiferromagnetic coupling can also lead to SMM behavior. In SIM chemistry, ligands that create a strong axial crystal field are highly desirable for metal ions with oblate electron density, e.g., TbIII and DyIII, whereas equatorial crystal fields lead to SMM behavior in complexes based on metal ions with prolate electron density, e.g., ErIII. In this review, we have attempted to highlight the use of few, efficient ligands in the chemistry of transition-metal SMMs and SIMs, through selected examples. The content of the review is purely chemical and it is assumed that the reader has a good knowledge of synthetic, structural and physical inorganic chemistry, as well as of the properties of SIMs and SMMs and the techniques of their study. The ligands that will be discussed are the azide ion, the cyanido group, the tris(trimethylsilyl)methanide, the cyclopentanienido group, soft (based on the Hard-Soft Acid-Base model) ligands, metallacrowns combined with click chemistry, deprotonated aliphatic diols, and the family of 2-pyridyl ketoximes, including some of its elaborate derivatives. The rationale behind the selection of the ligands will be emphasized.

Abstract
A series of quinonoid-bridged dicobalt compounds [(N4Co)2LX](ClO4)2 (1-4) (X = H, Cl, Br and OMe; N4 = 1,4,7,10-tetrabenzyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane) are synthesized and well characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that the coordination geometry of one side Co in compounds 1-4 changes from a triangular prism to distorted octahedron with a change in the bridged-ligand substituent. Magnetic measurements show that compounds 1 and 3 exhibit single-molecule magnetic behavior. Magneto-structural analyses indicate that the difference in the relaxation barrier U between the four compounds results from the different orientations of the anisotropy axes of the two Co centers in the molecule.

Abstract
The cobalt(II) in [Co(NCS)2 (4-methoxypyridine)2 ]n are linked by pairs of thiocyanate anions into linear chains. In contrast to a previous structure determination, two crystallographically independent cobalt(II) centers have been found to be present. In the antiferromagnetic state, below the critical temperature (Tc =3.94 K) and critical field (Hc =290 Oe), slow relaxations of the ferromagnetic chains are observed. They originate mainly from defects in the magnetic structure, which has been elucidated by micromagnetic Monte Carlo simulations and ac measurements using pristine and defect samples. The energy barriers of the relaxations are Δτ1 =44.9(5) K and Δτ2 =26.0(7) K for long and short spin chains, respectively. The spin excitation energy, measured by using frequency-domain EPR spectroscopy, is 19.1 cm-1 and shifts 0.1 cm-1 due to the magnetic ordering. Ab initio calculations revealed easy-axis anisotropy for both CoII centers, and also an exchange anisotropy Jxx /Jzz of 0.21. The XXZ anisotropic Heisenberg model (solved by using the density renormalization matrix group technique) was used to reconcile the specific heat, susceptibility, and EPR data.

Abstract
The combinations of Co(II), octacyanidotungstate(V), and monodentate pyridine N-oxide (pyNO) or 4-phenylpyridine N-oxide (4-phpyNO) led to crystallization of novel crystalline phases {CoII[CoII8(pyNO)12(MeOH)12][WV(CN)8]6} (1) and {CoII[CoII8(4-phpyNO)7(MeOH)17][WV(CN)8]6}·7MeOH·(4-phpyNO)3 (2). In both architectures, metal-cyanide clusters are coordinated by N-oxide ligands in a simple monodentate manner to give the spherical objects of over 1 nm core diameter and about 2.2 nm (1) and 3 nm (2) of the total diameter, terminated with the aromatic rings. The supramolecular architecture is dominated by dense and rich π-π interaction systems. Both structures are characterized by a significant structural disorder in ligand shell, described with the suitable probability models. For 1, the π-π interactions between the pyNO ligands attached to the same metal centers are suggested for the first time. In 2, 4-phpyNO acts as monodentate ligand and as the crystallization molecule. Magnetic studies indicate the high-spin ground state due to the ferromagnetic interactions Co(II)-W(V) through the cyanido bridges. Due to the high symmetry of the clusters, no signature of slow magnetic relaxation was observed. The characterization is completed by solid-state IR and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. The conditions for the stable M9M'6-based crystals formation are synthetically discussed in terms of the type of capping ligands: monodentate, bridging, and chelating. The potential of the related polynuclear forms toward the magnetism-based functional properties is critically indicated.

Abstract
An alternative strategy for the synthesis of terpyridine based switchable molecular tweezers has been developed to incorporate anisotropic Mn(iii)-salphen complexes. The free ligand was synthesized using a building block strategy based on Sonogashira coupling reactions and was then selectively metalated with manganese in a last step. The conformation of the tweezers was switched from an open 'W' shaped form to a closed 'U' form by Zn(ii) coordination to the terpyridine unit bringing the two Mn-salphen moieties in close spatial proximity as confirmed by X-ray crystallography. An alternate switching mechanism was observed by the intercalation of a bridging cyanide ligand between the two Mn-salphen moieties that resulted in the closing of the tweezers. These dual stimuli are attractive for achieving multiple controls of the mechanical motion of the tweezers. A crystallographic structure of unexpected partially oxidized closed tweezers was also obtained. One of the two Mn-salphen moieties underwent a ligand-centered oxidation of an imino to an amido group allowing an intramolecular Mn-Oamide-Mn linkage. The magnetic properties of the manganese(iii) dimers were investigated to evaluate the magnetic exchange interaction and analyze the single molecule magnet behavior.

Abstract
Microporous magnets compose a class of multifunctional molecule-based materials where desolvation-driven structural transformation leads to the switching of magnetic properties. Herein, we present a special type of microporous magnet where a dehydration-hydration process within a bimetal coordination framework results in the switching of emissive DyIII single-molecule magnets (SMMs). We report a three-dimensional (3-D) cyanido-bridged coordination polymer, {[DyIII(H2O)2][CoIII(CN)6]}·2.2H2O (1), and its dehydrated form of {DyIII[CoIII(CN)6]} (2), which was obtained through a reversible single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation. Both phases are composed of paramagnetic DyIII centers alternately arranged with diamagnetic hexacyanidocobaltates(III). The hydrated phase contains eight-coordinated [DyIII(μ-NC)6(H2O)2]3- complexes of a square antiprism geometry, while the dehydrated form contains six-coordinated [DyIII(μ-NC)6]3- moieties of a trigonal prism geometry. This change in coordination geometry results in the generation of DyIII single-molecule magnets in 2, whereas slow magnetic relaxation effect is not observed for DyIII sites in 1. The D4d-to-D3h symmetry change of DyIII complexes produces also the shift of photoluminescent color from nearly white to deep yellow thanks to the modulation of emission bands of f-f electronic transitions. A combined approach utilizing dc magnetic data and low-temperature emission spectra confirmed an axial crystal field of trigonal prismatic DyIII complexes in 2, which produces an Orbach type of slow magnetic relaxation. Therefore, we present a unique route to the efficient switching of SMM behavior and photoluminescence of DyIII complexes embedded in a 3-D cyanido-bridged framework.

Abstract
Reactions of [Mn(H2 dapsc)Cl2 ]⋅H2 O (dapsc=2,6- diacetylpyridine bis(semicarbazone)) with K3 [Fe(CN)6 ] and (PPh4 )3 [Fe(CN)6 ] lead to the formation of the chain polymeric complex {[Mn(H2 dapsc)][Fe(CN)6 ][K(H2 O)3.5 ]}n ⋅1.5n H2 O (1) and the discrete pentanuclear complex {[Mn(H2 dapsc)]3 [Fe(CN)6 ]2 (H2 O)2 }⋅4 CH3 OH⋅3.4 H2 O (2), respectively. In the crystal structure of 1 the high-spin [MnII (H2 dapsc)]2+ cations and low-spin hexacyanoferrate(III) anions are assembled into alternating heterometallic cyano-bridged chains. The K+ ions are located between the chains and are coordinated by oxygen atoms of the H2 dapsc ligand and water molecules. The magnetic structure of 1 is built from ferrimagnetic chains, which are antiferromagnetically coupled. The complex exhibits metamagnetism and frequency-dependent ac magnetic susceptibility, indicating single-chain magnetic behavior with a Mydosh-parameter φ=0.12 and an effective energy barrier (Ueff /kB ) of 36.0 K with τ0 =2.34×10-11 s for the spin relaxation. Detailed theoretical analysis showed highly anisotropic intra-chain spin coupling between [FeIII (CN)6 ]3- and [MnII (H2 dapsc)]2+ units resulting from orbital degeneracy and unquenched orbital momentum of [FeIII (CN)6 ]3- complexes. The origin of the metamagnetic transition is discussed in terms of strong magnetic anisotropy and weak AF interchain spin coupling.

Abstract
Herein, we report a new trigonal prismatic cobalt(II) complex that behaves as a single molecule magnet. The obtained zero-field splitting, which is also directly accessed by THz-EPR spectroscopy (-102.5 cm-1 ), results in a large magnetization reversal barrier U of 205 cm-1 . Its effective value, however, is much lower (101 cm-1 ), even though there is practically no contribution from quantum tunneling to magnetization relaxation.
