Abstract
A series of pyrene or pyrene-o-carborane-appendant selenoviologens (Py-SeV2+ , Py-Cb-SeV2+ ) for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and reduction of alkynes is reported. The efficient photoinduced electron transfer (PET) from electron-rich pyrene-o-carborane heterojunction (Py-Cb) with intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) characteristic to electron-deficient selenoviologen (SeV2+ ) (kET = 1.2 × 1010 s-1 ) endows the accelerating the generation of selenoviologen radical cation (SeV+• ) compared with Py-SeV2+ and other derivatives. The electrochromic/electrofluorochromic devices' (ECD and EFCD) measurements and supramolecular assembly/disassembly processes of SeV2+ and cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) results show that the PET process can be finely tuned by electrochemical and host-guest chemistry methods. By combination with Pt-NPs catalyst, the Py-Cb-SeV2+ -based system shows high-efficiency visible-light-driven HER and highly selective phenylacetylene reduction due to the efficient PET process.

Abstract
Tetraphenylmethane appended with four pyridylpyridinium units works as a scaffold to self-assemble four ruthenium porphyrins in a tetrahedral shape-persistent giant architecture. The resulting supramolecular structure has been characterised in the solid state by X-ray single crystal analysis and in solution by various techniques. Multinuclear NMR spectroscopy confirms the 1 : 4 stoichiometry with the formation of a highly symmetric structure. The self-assembly process can be monitored by changes of the redox potentials, as well as by modifications in the visible absorption spectrum of the ruthenium porphyrin and by a complete quenching of both the bright fluorescence of the tetracationic scaffold and the weak phosphorescence of the ruthenium porphyrin. An ultrafast photoinduced electron transfer is responsible for this quenching process. The lifetime of the resulting charge separated state (800 ps) is about four times longer in the giant supramolecular structure compared to the model 1 : 1 complex formed by the ruthenium porphyrin and a single pyridylpyridinium unit. Electron delocalization over the tetrameric pyridinium structure is likely to be responsible for this effect.

Abstract
Mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) with discrete molecular components linked through a mechanical bond in space can be harnessed for the operation of molecular switches and machines, which shows huge potential to imitate the dynamic response of natural enzymes. In this work, rotaxane compounds were adopted as building monomers for the synthesis of a crown-ether ring mechanically intercalated covalence organic framework (COF). This incorporation of MIMs into open architecture implemented large amplitude motions, whose wheel slid along the axle in response to external stimulation. After impregnation with Zn2+ ions, the relative locations of two zinc active sites (crown-ether coordinated Zn(II) and bipyridine coordinated Zn(II)) are endowed with great flexibility to fit the conformational transformation of an organophosphorus agent during the hydrolytic process. Notably, the resulting self-adaptive binuclear zinc center in a crown-ether-threaded COF network is endowed with a record catalytic ability, with a rate over 85.5 μM min-1 for organophosphorus degradation. The strategy of synthesis for porous artificial enzymes through the introduction of mechanically bound crown ether will enable significant breakthroughs and new synthetic concepts for the development of advanced biomimetic catalysts.

Abstract
Redox-active ionic liquids (RAILs) are gaining attention as a material that can create a wide range of functions. We herein propose a charge-transfer (CT) RAIL by mixing two RAILs, specifically a carbazole-based ionic liquid ([CzC4ImC1][TFSI]) as a donor and a viologen-based ionic liquid ([C4VC7][TFSI]2) as an acceptor. We investigated the effect of CT interaction on the physicochemical properties of the CT ionic liquid (CT-IL) using the results of temperature-dependent measurements of UV-vis absorption, viscosity, and ionic conductivity as well as cyclic voltammograms. We employed the Walden analysis and the Grunberg–Nissan model to elucidate the effect of the CT interaction on the viscosity and ionic conductivity. The CT interaction reduces the viscosity by reducing the electrostatic attraction between the dicationic viologen and TFSI anion. It also reduces the ionic conductivity by the CT association of the dicationic viologen and carbazole. The electrochemically reversible responses of the viologens in [C4VC7][TFSI]2 and CT-IL are consistent with the Nernstian and the interacting two-redox site models. Notably, the transport and electrochemical properties are modulated by CT interaction, leading to unique features that are not present in individual component ILs. The inclusion of CT interaction in RAILs thus provides a powerful means to expand the scope of functionalized ionic liquids. A redox-active ionic liquid (RAIL) consisting of a carbazole and viologen shows charge transfer (CT) interaction. The physicochemical properties are modulated by the CT interaction by comparison with the individual RAILs.![]()

Abstract
A novel cooperative [3]pseudorotaxane system consisting of dibenzo-24-crown-8 (DB24C8) and diphenylviologen axle has been developed. The two-step formation of the [3]pseudorotaxane occurred in a positive-cooperative manner. The corresponding [3]rotaxane was successfully obtained from just a stoichiometric mixture of each component by end-capping without dissociation.

Abstract
By using click chemistry, a hexacationic cage was synthesized. The cage contains two triscationic π-electron-deficient trispyridiniumtriazine (TPZ3+) platforms that are bridged in a face-to-face manner by three ethylene-triazole-ethylene linkers. A diversity of π-electron-rich guests can be recognized within the pocket of the cage, driven by host-guest π-π interactions. The cage cavity acts as a protecting group, preventing an anthracene guest from undergoing Diels-Alder reaction. Under ultraviolet (UV) light, the pyridinium C─N bonds in TPZ3+ platforms are polarized and weakened, resulting in the occurrence of cage decomposition via β-elimination. Guest recognition could help to prevent this UV-stimulated cage decomposition by suppressing the excitation of the TPZ3+ units.

Abstract
We found that TC7 not only self-assembles into one-dimensional supramolecular aggregates in chloroform, but also forms cross-linked supramolecular polymers via host-guest complexation between benzo-21-crown-7 and secondary ammonium salts. Compared with one-dimensional linear supramolecular polymers, soft and long viscous fibers were pulled out from a concentrated solution of cross-linked supramolecular polymers as a result of higher viscosity and lower diffusion coefficients.

Construction of Metallacage-Cored Supramolecular Gel by Hierarchical Self-Assembly of Metal Coordination and Pillar[5]arene-Based Host-Guest Recognition. Macromol Rapid Commun 2018; 39:e1800655. Abstract
In this work, a Pd2 L4 metallacage 2•([BF4 ]- )4 with four pillar[5]arene units is first prepared and characterized by 1D multinuclear NMR (1 H, 11 B, and 19 F NMR), 2D 1 H-1 H correlation spectra, 1 H-13 C heteronuclear single quantum coherence, and diffusion-ordered NMR spectroscopy, and electrospray ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. By the introduction of a ditopic guest molecule 3 into a chloroform solution of 2•([BF4 ]- )4 , a supramolecular polymer network gel is successfully constructed based on the metal coordination interactions and host-guest recognition between the pillar[5]arene units of 2•([BF4 ]- )4 and neutral ditopic guest molecule 3. The temperature and pH responsivenesses of the supramolecular gel are studied, which are further employed for the controlled release of different cargos. As a demonstration, emodin and methylene blue are trapped in the cavities of the metallacage and in the pores of the supramolecular gel, respectively. Methylene blue is first released along with the gel-sol transition while emodin is then released by the further addition of acid to destroy the metallacage. This study explores the use of metallacage-cored supramolecular network gels for sequential controlled release and contributes to the development of smart and adaptive materials.
