Abstract
A bisphosphirane-fused anthracene (5) was prepared by treatment of a sterically encumbered amino phosphorus dichloride (3) with MgA ⋅ THF3 (A=anthracene). X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a pentacyclic framework consisting of 5 with two phosphirane rings fused to the anthracene in a trans-fashion. Compound 5 has been shown to be an efficient phosphinidene synthon, readily liberating two transient phosphinidene units for subsequent downstream bond activation via the reductive elimination of anthracene under mild conditions. The formal oxidative addition of H2 and E-H (E=Si, N, P) bonds by the liberated phosphinidene provided diphosphine and substituted phosphines. Furthermore, phosphinidene transfer to alkenes and alkynes smoothly yielded the corresponding phosphiranes and phosphirenes. The mechanism of the H2 activation by 5 was investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Abstract
Herein, we report boron-centered arene extrusion reactions to afford putative cyclic(alkyl)(amino) carbene (CAAC)-ligated chloroborylene and bromoborylene intermediates. The borylene precursors, chloro-boranorbornadiene (ClB(C6Me6), 2Cl) and bromo-boranorbornadiene (BrB(C6Me6), 2Br) were synthesized through the reaction of the corresponding 1-halo-2,3,4,5-tetramethylborole dimer (XBC4Me4)2 (X = Cl, 1Cl; X = Br, 1Br) with 2-butyne. Treatment of 2Cl with CAACs resulted in the release of di-coordinate chloro-borylene (CAAC)BCl from hexamethylbenzene (C6Me6) at room temperature. In contrast, the reaction of 2Br with CAAC led to the formation of a boronium species [(CAAC)BC6Me6]+Br- (7) at room temperature. Heating 7 in toluene promoted the release of di-coordinate bromo-borylene (CAAC)BBr as a transient species. Surprisingly, heating 7 in dichloromethane resulted in the C-H activation of hexamethylbenzene. The conversion of a CAAC-stabilized bromo-borepin to a borylene, a boron-centered retro Büchner reaction, was also investigated.

Abstract
We explored coordination chemistry associated with valence isomerization between a methylene(thioxo)phosphorane (MTP) and a thiaphosphirane. For this purpose, we developed the selective synthesis of a MTP by eliminating chlorodimethylphenylsilane from the corresponding chlorophosphine sulfide. Treatment of the MTP with an equivalent amount of pentafluorophenylgold(I) complex resulted in the formation of a thiaphosphirane gold(I) complex, which likely proceeds via an η2-P,C-MTP gold complex. The MTP undergoes a valence isomerization catalyzed by copper(I) chloride to furnish a transition metal-free thiaphosphirane. Computational studies proposed a plausible mechanism involving a Cu-assisted cyclization reaction.

Abstract
Phosphanorcaradienes are an appealing class of phosphorus compounds that can serve as synthons of transient phosphinidenes. However, the synthesis of such species is a formidable task owing to their intrinsic high reactivity. Herein we report straightforward synthesis, characterization and reactivity studies of a phosphanorcaradiene, in which one of the benzene rings in the flanking fluorenyl substituents is intramolecularly dearomatized through attachment to the phosphorus atom. It is facilely obtained by the reduction of phosphorus(III) dichloride precursor with potassium graphite. Despite being thermally robust, it acts as a synthetic equivalent of a transient phosphinidene. It reacts with trimethylphosphine and isonitrile to yield phosphanylidene-phosphorane and 1-phospha-3-azaallene, respectively. When it is treated with one and two molar equivalents of azide, iminophosphane and bis(imino)phosphane are isolated, respectively. Moreover, it is capable of activating ethylene and alkyne to afford [1 + 2] cycloaddition products, as well as oxidative cleavage of Si-H and N-H bonds to yield secondary phosphines. All the reactions proceed smoothly at room temperature without the presence of transition metals. The driving force for these reactions is most likely the high ring-constraint of the three-membered PC2 ring and recovery of the aromaticity of the benzene ring.

Abstract
Carbenes (R2C:), compounds with a divalent carbon atom containing only six valence shell electrons, have evolved into a broader class with the replacement of the carbene carbon or the RC moiety with main group elements, leading to the creation of main group carbene analogues. These analogues, mirroring the electronic structure of carbenes (a lone pair of electrons and an empty orbital), demonstrate unique reactivity. Over the last three decades, this area has seen substantial advancements, paralleling the innovations in carbene chemistry. Recent studies have revealed a spectrum of unique carbene analogues, such as monocoordinate aluminylenes, nitrenes, and bismuthinidenes, notable for their extraordinary properties and diverse reactivity, offering promising applications in small molecule activation. This review delves into the isolable main group carbene analogues that are in the forefront from 2010 and beyond, spanning elements from group 13 (B, Al, Ga, In, and Tl), group 14 (Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb) and group 15 (N, P, As, Sb, and Bi). Specifically, this review focuses on the potential amphiphilic species that possess both lone pairs of electrons and vacant orbitals. We detail their comprehensive synthesis and stabilization strategies, outlining the reactivity arising from their distinct structural characteristics.

Abstract
Reaction of the ruthenium carbene complex Cp*(IPr)RuCl (1) (IPr = 1,3-bis(Dipp)imidazol-2-ylidene; Dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl) with sodium phosphaethynolate (NaOCP) led to intramolecular dearomatization of one of the Dipp substituents on the Ru-bound carbene to afford a Ru-bound phosphanorcaradiene, 2. Computations by DFT reveal a transition state characterized by a concerted process whereby CO migrates to the Ru center as the P atom adds to the π system of the aryl group. The phosphanorcaradiene possesses ambiphilic properties and reacts with both nucleophilic and electrophilic substrates, resulting in rearomatization of the ligand aryl group with net P atom transfer to give several unusual metal-bound, P-containing main-group moieties. These new complexes include a metallo-1-phospha-3-azaallene (Ru─P═C═NR), a metalloiminophosphanide (Ru─P═N─R), and a metallophosphaformazan (Ru─P(═N─N═CPh2)2). Reaction of 2 with the carbene 2,3,4,5-tetramethylimidazol-2-ylidene (IMe4) produced the corresponding phosphaalkene DippP═IMe4.

Abstract
Phosphinidenes are heavy congeners of nitrenes that have been broadly used as in situ reagents in synthetic phosphorus chemistry and also serve as versatile ligands in coordination with transition metals. However, the detection of free phosphinidenes is largely challenged by their high reactivity and also the lack of suitable synthetic methods, rendering the knowledge about the fundamental properties of this class of low-valent phosphorus compounds limited. Recently, an increasing number of free phosphinidenes bearing prototype structural and bonding properties have been prepared for the first time, thus enabling the exploration of their distinct reactivity from the nitrene analogues. This Concept article will discuss the experimental approaches for the generation of the highly unstable phosphinidenes and highlight their distinct reactivity from the nitrogen analogues so as to stimuate future studies about their potential applications in phosphorus chemistry.

Abstract
Addition of 2 equiv. of bis(diisopropylamino)cyclopropenylidene (BAC) to [U(NR2)3(CCPh)] (1, R = SiMe3), in Et2O, results in formation of [cyclo-N(iPr)C(Me)2CH(NiPr2)C{CHC3(NiPr2)2}][U(NR2)2(N(SiMe3)SiMe2CH2)(CCPh)] (2) in moderate isolated yield. Complex 2 is the result of coupling and protonation of two BAC molecules, where complex 1 contributes the required proton. It was characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography and represents a new mode of reactivity of the cyclopropenylidene fragment.

Abstract
Carbenes, once considered laboratory curiosities, now serve as powerful tools in the chemical and material sciences. To date, all stable singlet carbenes are single-site ambiphiles. Here we describe the synthesis of a carbene which is a carbon-based dual ambiphile (both single-site and dual-site). The key is to employ imino substituents derived from a cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene (CAAC), which imparts a 1,3-dipolar character to the carbene. Its dual ambiphilic nature is consistent with the ability to activate simple organic molecules in both 1,1- and 1,3-fashion. Furthermore, its 1,3-ambiphilicity facilitates an unprecedented reversible intramolecular dearomative [3 + 2] cycloaddition with a proximal arene substituent, giving the carbene the ability to "mask" itself as an air-stable cycloadduct. We perceive that the concept of dual ambiphilicity opens a new dimension for future carbene chemistry, expanding the repertoire of applications beyond that known for classical single-site ambiphilic carbenes.

Abstract
Distonic radical cations (DRCs) with spatially separated charge and radical sites have, so far, largely been observed by gas-phase mass spectrometry and/or matrix isolation spectroscopy work. Herein, we disclose the isolation of a crystalline dicarbondiphosphide-based β-distonic radical cation salt 3.+ (BARF) (BARF=[B(3,5-(CF3 )2 C6 H3 )4 )]- ) stable at room temperature and formed by a one-electron-oxidation-induced intramolecular skeletal rearrangement reaction. Such a species has been validated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, UV/Vis spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Compound 3.+ (BARF) exhibits a large majority of spin density at a two-coordinate phosphorus atom (0.74 a.u.) and a cationic charge located predominantly at the four-coordinate phosphorus atom (1.53 a.u.), which are separated by one carbon atom. This species represents an isolable entity of a phosphorus radical cation that is the closest to a genuine phosphorus DRC to date.

Abstract
tert-Butylthiophosphinidene complex [tBuSP-W(CO)5 ] was generated by dissociation of 1-(tert-butylthio)phosphirane-W(CO)5 complex under mild conditions. The formation of transient [tBuSP-W(CO)5 ] was indicated by trapping reactions with 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene, alkynes, phenanthrene-9,10-dione, and methanol. The LUMO of [MeSP-W(CO)5 ] is significantly lower in energy than those of [Me2 NP-W(CO)5 ], [MeOP-W(CO)5 ], and [Me2 PP-W(CO)5 ]. The HOMO of [MeSP-W(CO)5 ] contains a significant contribution from the in-plane lone pair of P and the LUMO shows a typical π* characteristic. Since stabilized by sulfur lone pair and coordinated by W(CO)5 , [tBuSP-W(CO)5 ] undergoes facile and reversible cycloadditions with alkenes and alkynes.

Abstract
The reactions of the cyclic alkyl amino carbene (CAAC) 1 with phosphaalkynes generate the kinetically unstable CAAC-derived phosphirenes 4 and 5, which undergo rearrangement/dimerization reactions to give the vinyl-substituted diphosphenes 2, 3, and 6. The P=P double bond scission of 2 or 3 is unprecedentedly effected by S8 , [AuCl(tht)], or MeOTf at room temperature, which affords a dithiophosphorane 7, a phosphepine Au complex 8, or phosphepinium cations 9 and 10, respectively. The cationic species feature little homoaromaticity while representing the first examples of the phosphorus-containing analogue of the tropylium ion.

Abstract
Here we report the photochemical reactions of triplet phenylphosphinidene with carbon monoxide and nitric oxide. The photolysis of phenylphosphirane in carbon monoxide-doped matrices enabled the first spectroscopic identification of phenylphosphaketene, the hitherto unreported phosphorus analogue of phenyl isocyanate. The hitherto undisclosed phosphinimine-N-oxyl radical formed upon UV irradiation of the phenylphosphinidene with nitric oxide in argon matrices at 10 K.
