Abstract
A new sample preparation method based on microextraction in packed syringe was developed for preconcentration of quercetin prior to its spectrophotometric determination. Molecularly imprinted polymers as packing material was used for higher extraction efficiency. First, glass powder as support material because of low cost and available substrate was modified, and then molecularly imprinted polymers were synthesized by the sol-gel method using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as a functional monomer and tetraethyl orthosilicate as cross-linker agent. The combination of a molecularly imprinted polymers and microextraction in packed syringe increased the selectivity and sensitivity. The surface morphology and functionality of the prepared molecularly imprinted polymers was characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. Different influencing parameters on extraction efficiency such as effect of the number of sample sorption/desorption cycles, type and volume of desorption solvent, pH of the sample solution, and molecularly imprinted polymers amounts were optimized. Under the optimum condition, the proposed method displayed a linear range from 0.01 to 5 µg mL-1 and limit of detection 3.68 ng mL-1 . Relative standard deviation for three replicate determination of 1 µg mL-1 quercetin was 2.1 %. The proposed method was applied successfully for the selective extraction of quercetin from tea and coffee samples.

Abstract
A sensitive molecularly imprinted ratiometric fluorescence sensor was constructed for the first time to visually detect tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). The blue fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were coated with SiO2 through the reverse microemulsion method to obtain a stable internal reference signal CQDs@SiO2. The ratiometric fluorescence sensor was finally prepared using red fluorescent CdTe QDs as the response signal in the presence of CQDs@SiO2. When the molecularly imprinted polymers were combined with TBBPA, the fluorescence of CdTe QDs (Ex = 365 nm, Em = 665 nm) was rapidly quenched, while that of CQDs (Ex = 365 nm, Em = 441 nm) remained stable, resulting in a noticeable fluorescence color change. Moreover, the fluorescence intensity ratio (I665/I441)0/(I665/I441) of the sensor showed a linear response to TBBPA in the concentration range 0.1 to 10 μM with a low detection limit of 3.8 nM. The prepared sensor was successfully applied to detect TBBPA in water samples. The recoveries were in the range 98.2-103%, with relative standard deviations lower than 2.5%. Furthermore, a fluorescent test strip for visual monitoring of TBBPA was constructed to streamline the procedure. The excellent results demonstrate that the prepared test strip has a broad prospect for the offline detection of pollutants.

Abstract
A simple solid-phase microextraction technique using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP-SPME) was prepared to monitor phenobarbital in urine samples. In this technique, the fiber was prepared via insertion of the modified stainless-steel wire in the reaction solution including 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and tetraethyl orthosilicate in the presence of an acidic catalyst (acetic acid). The fabricated MIP-SPME fiber was utilized to selectively extract phenobarbital from urine samples and prepare it for detection through high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. The synthesized MIPs were characterized by several techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The effects of various influencing factors on the extraction yield of phenobarbital were considered and optimized. The conditions that yielded the maximum extraction efficiency were as follows: pH of 5, 25 min extraction time, 500 rpm stirring rate, 15 min desorption time and using methanol as elution solvent. Within the range of concentrations of 0.02 to 100 μg mL-1, the method had linear characteristics, with a suitable coefficient of determination (0.9983). We determined limits of detection and limits of quantification to be 9.88 and 32.9 ng mL-1, respectively. The repeatability and reproducibility of the prepared fibers were 4.6 and 6.5%, respectively.

Abstract
In order to prepare a kind of efficient fluorescence sensors for determination of cis-diol-containing flavonoids, novel imprinted quantum dots for myricetin (Myr) were prepared based on boronate affinity-based template-immobilization surface imprinting. The obtained boronate affinity-based surface imprinted silica (imprinted APBA-functionalized CdTe QDs) was used as recognition elements. The quantum dots were used as signal-transduction materials. Under the optimum conditions, according to fluorescence quenching of imprinted APBA-functionalized CdTe QDs by Myr, the imprinting factor (IF) for Myr was evaluated to be 7.88. The result indicated that the boronate affinity functionalized quantum dots coated with imprinted silica were successfully prepared. The prepared imprinted APBA-functionalized CdTe QDs exhibited good sensitivity and selectivity for Myr. The fluorescence intensity was inversely proportional to the concentration of Myr in the 0.30-40 μM concentration range. And its detection limit was obtained to be 0.08 μM. Using the fluorescence sensors, the detection of Myr in real samples was successfully carried out, and the concentration of Myr in green tea and apple juice samples was evaluated to be 2.26 mg/g and 0.73 mg/g, respectively. The recoveries for the spiked green tea and apple juice samples were 95.2-105.0% and 91.5-111.0%, respectively. This study also provides an efficient fluorescent detection method for cis-diol-containing flavonoids in real samples.

Abstract
BFRs (brominated flame retardants) are a class of compounds that are added to or applied to polymeric materials to avoid or reduce the spread of fire. Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is one of the known BFR used many in industries today. Due to its wide application as an additive flame retardant in commodities, TBBPA has become a common indoor contaminant. Recent researches have raised concerns about the possible hazardous effect of exposure to TBBPA and its derivatives in humans and wildlife. This review gives a thorough assessment of the literature on TBBPA and its derivatives, as well as environmental levels and human exposure. Several analytical techniques/methods have been developed for sensitive and accurate analysis of TBBPA and its derivatives in different compartments. These chemicals have been detected in practically every environmental compartment globally, making them a ubiquitous pollutant. TBBPA may be subject to adsorption, biological degradation or photolysis, photolysis after being released into the environment. Treatment of TBBPA-containing waste, as well as manufacturing and usage regulations, can limit the release of these chemicals to the environment and the health hazards associated with its exposure. Several methods have been successfully employed for the treatment of TBBPA including but not limited to adsorption, ozonation, oxidation and anaerobic degradation. Previous studies have shown that TBBPA and its derivative cause a lot of toxic effects. Diet and dust ingestion and have been identified as the main routes of TBBPA exposure in the general population, according to human exposure studies. Toddlers are more vulnerable than adults to be exposed to indoor dust through inadvertent ingestion. Furthermore, TBBP-A exposure can occur during pregnancy and through breast milk. This review will go a long way in closing up the knowledge gap on the silent and over ignored deadly effects of TBBPA and its derivatives and their attendant consequences.

Abstract
This paper reports the development of a novel probe based on magnetic room-temperature phosphorescence quantum dots with molecularly imprinted polymers (MQD-MIPs) for the rapid detection of trace norfloxacin (NFX) residual in complex food matrix. The highly selective probe was constructed by surface molecular imprinting technology using magnetic materials (Fe3O4 nanoparticles) as core, Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (Mn-ZnS QDs) as phosphorescent materials, NFX as template, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as functional monomer, and tetraethoxysilane as crosslinking agent. The as-obtained MQD-MIPs were characterized in detail by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, and vibrating sample magnetometer. A magnetic strength of 37.64 emu g-1 was recorded. Also, the probe displayed excellent room temperature phosphorescence properties with excitation/emission peaks at 300/590 nm. Under the optimized conditions, the detection time was less than 40 min, phosphorescence intensity varied linearly with concentration from 1 to 90 μg·L-1, and detection limit reached as low as 0.80 μg·L-1. Furthermore, the MQD-MIPs-based probe successfully detected norfloxacin residues in spiked fish and milk samples with recoveries of 90.92-111.53% and RSD <7%, outperforming the standard control method-HPLC-FLD (recoveries of 85.89-118.28%).

Abstract
A fluorescent probe has been developed for tetra bromo bisphenol A (TBBPA) detection based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) combined with wrinkled silica nanoparticles (WSNs) and CdTe quantum dot (QD) hybrid particles. The WSNs with large pore sizes were employed as a structural support platform for QD embedding, and MIPs were synthesized on the surface of QD-embedded WSNs. The synthetic procedure was characterized using transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and zeta potential analysis. The MIP-capped wrinkled silica-QD hybrid particles (WSNs-QDs-MIPs) possessed an adsorption capacity of 96.5 mg g-1 with an imprinting factor of 7.9 towards TBBPA. Under the optimum incubation conditions, the fluorescence intensity (λex = 340 nm, λem = 605 nm) was quenched in proportion to added TBBPA in the range 0.025 to 5 μM with a limit of detection of 5.4 nM. The developed probe was successfully applied to the detection of TBBPA in plastic electronic waste samples and the results of this method agreed with those obtained using high-performance liquid chromatography. This method presented a satisfactory selectivity, stability, and reproducibility indicating its potential as a promising probe for TBBPA detection.

Abstract
Fluorescent nanomaterials (FNMs) and molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) have been widely used in analytical chemistry for determination. However, low selectivity of FNMs and low sensitivity of MIPs hinder their applications. Combining the merits of FNMs and MIPs, FNMs coated with MIPs (FNMs@MIPs) were proposed to solve those problems. Carbon dots, semiconductor quantum dots, noble metal nanoparticles, silica nanoparticles, and covalent-organic frameworks have been reported to be coated with MIPs. In order to overcome challenges for FNMs@MIPs, such as the lack of handy synthesis routes, incompatibility with aqueous solutions, heterogeneous size of particles, leakage of template molecules, the biocompatibility of FNMs@MIPs, and the inference between FNMs and MIPs, scientists proposed some solutions in recent years. We comprehensively review the newest advances of the FNMs@MIPs, and predict the direction of the future development. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Novel boronate affinity imprinted quantum dots (BA-CdTe@MIPs QDs) were used to develop a selective and sensitive fluorescent nanosensor for determination of cis-diol-containing flavonoids such as quercetin (Qu), baicalein (Bai) and luteolin (Lut) based on controllable oriented surface imprinting approach. The boronate affinity imprinted silica was used as recognition elements. Under the optimum conditions, the imprinting factor (IF) for Qu, Bai and Lut was evaluated to be 9.42, 6.58 and 10.91, respectively. The results indicated that the boronate affinity quantum dots coated with imprinted silica were successfully prepared. The obtained BA-CdTe@MIPs QDs provided high selectivity and high sensitivity for cis-diol-containing flavonoids such as quercetin and luteolin. The BA-CdTe@MIPs QDs exhibited linear decrease in fluorescence intensity with the increase of concentration of quercetin in the 0.05-25 μM concentration range. The detection limit (LOD) is evaluated to be 0.02 μM. The obtained fluorescent nanosensor could be successfully applied to efficient detection of cis-diol-containing flavonoids in onion skin and human urine samples. The recoveries for the spiked onion skin and urine samples were evaluated to be 83.50-104.00% and 86.67-105.00%, respectively. Clearly, this study provides a rapid and efficient fluorescent detection tool for cis-diol-containing flavonoids in real samples.

Colorimetric determination of tetrabromobisphenol A based on enzyme-mimicking activity and molecular recognition of metal-organic framework-based molecularly imprinted polymers. Abstract
A sol-gel method is presented to synthesize molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) composed with a copper-based metal-organic framework (referred to as MIP/HKUST-1) on a paper support to selectively recognize tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). The imprinting factor is 7.6 and the maximum adsorption capacity is 187.3 mg g-1. This is much better than data for other MIPs. The degradation of TBBPA is introduced in the procedure. Due to the selective recognition by the MIP, the enzyme-mimicking properties of HKUST-1 under the MIP layer became weak due to the decrease of residue imprinted cavities. And adsorbed TBBPA can be degraded under consumption of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The combined effect of H2O2 and HKUST-1 cause the coloration caused by catalytic oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine to become less distinct. This amplification strategy is used for the ultrasensitive and highly selective colorimetric determination of TBBPA. The gray intensity is proportional to the logarithm concentration of TBBPA in the range of 0.01-10 ng g-1. The limit of detection is as low as 3 pg g-1, and the blank intensities caused by TBBPA analogues are <1% of that caused by TBBPA at the same concentration, this implying excellent selectivity. The spiked recoveries ranged from 94.4 to 106.6% with relative standard deviation values that were no more than 8.6%. Other features include low costs, rapid response, easy operation and on-site testing. Graphical abstractSchematic representation of colorimetric determination of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) by paper-based metal-organic framework-based molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP/HKUST-1 composites) using 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) as a substrate.

Abstract
In this study, a porous framework MOF-74(Zn) (Zn2 (DHBDC)(DMF)(H2O)2, H4dondc = 1, 5-dioxido-2, 6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) with open metal sites was successful synthesized. MOF-74(Zn) as a template was grafted on the open metal sites with ethylenediamine (en) named MOF-74(Zn)-en to develop a highly selective and sensitive fluorescence detector for rapid determination of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). The obtained MOF-74(Zn)-en was well characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and showed ideal properties of photoluminescence. The fluorescence enhancement showed a good linear relationship with the concentrations of TBBPA in the range of 50-400 μg/L, and its limit of detection could reach to 0.75 μg/L. Furthermore, the possible sensing mechanism of the fluorescence enhancement could be attributed to Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET). The results will provide a convenient and quick method for detection of TBBPA. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first case to detect TBBPA by fluorescence enhancement with MOF derivatives.

Abstract
A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was fabricated for selective recognition of the highly persistent pollutant perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). The MIP was prepared from chitosan and doped with fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs). It was characterized by fluorescence spectrophotometry, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The fluorescence of the CQDs, best measured at excitation/emission wavelengths of 350/460 nm, is enhanced by PFOS, and the effect is much stronger for the MIP than for the nonimprinted polymer (NIP). The imprinting factor is 2.75. The method has good specificity over sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS'), sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), perfluorooctanesulfonyl fluoride (POSF), perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS) and 1-octanesulfonic acid sodium (OSA). Fluorescence increases linearly in the 20-200 pg·L-1 POSF concentration range in aqueous solution. The method was applied to the determination of PFOS in spiked serum and urine samples. The limits of detection are 66 and 85 pg·L-1 for serum and urine samples respectively. The recoveries ranged from to 81-98%, with relative standard deviations in the range of 1.8-8.2%. Compared with LC-MS/MS, this assay is more convenient since the material can be prepared flexibly and the method can be applied on-site. Abstract
In this study, well-defined magnetic and thermal dual-responsive nanomaterials were synthesized, which contained ultrafine core-shell Fe@SiO2 nanoparticles as magnetic core and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) as thermosensitive outer shell. The fabricated nanoparticles were characterized and investigated for the adsorption of four phenolic compounds, including bisphenol A (BPA), tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), 4-tert-octylphenol (4-OP) and 4-n-nonylphenol (4-NP). The experimental results demonstrated that the excellent adsorption rates were attributed to hydrophobic effect, hydrogen-bonding interaction, and electrostatic attraction. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics model and nonlinear isotherms, indicating heterogeneous adsorption process. The adsorption efficiency of 4-NP using Fe@SiO2@PNIPAM was more than 90% under optimized condition within 2 h. The determined maximum adsorption amounts of BPA, TBBPA, 4-OP and 4-NP were 2.43, 6.83, 24.75, and 49.34 mg g-1, respectively. Meanwhile, a magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) method with Fe@SiO2@PNIPAM was established to determine these four compounds simultaneously. Under the optimal conditions, the linearity ranges were in the range of 2-200, 2-300, 2-100 and 2-100 μg L-1 for BPA, 4-OP, TBBPA, and 4-NP, respectively, and the detection limits were in the range of 0.58-0.76 μg L-1, respectively. The applicability of the proposed method was evaluated by analyzing three fresh water samples, and satisfactory spiked recoveries in the range 70.9-119.9% were achieved. It was proved that these adsorbents could be easily collected and recycled owing to the appropriate magnetism. The results also demonstrated that the as-prepared adsorbents had promising potential in the enrichment and analysis of detrimental organic pollutants from water.

Abstract
Bisphenols (BPs) are well known endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) that cause adverse effects on the environment, biotic life and human health. BPs have been studied extensively because of an increasing concern for the safety of the environment and for human health. They are major raw materials for manufacturing polycarbonates, thermal papers and epoxy resins and are considered hazardous environmental contaminants. A vast array of sensors and biosensors have been developed for the sensitive screening of BPs based on carbon nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, graphene and graphene oxide), quantum dots, metal and metal oxide nanocomposites, polymer nanocomposites, metal organic frameworks, ionic liquids and molecularly imprinted polymers. This review is devoted mainly to a variety of sensitive, selective and reliable sensing and biosensing methods for the detection of BPs using electrochemistry, fluorescence, colorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, luminescence, ELISAs, circular dichroism, resonance Rayleigh scattering and adsorption techniques in plastic products, food samples, food packaging, industrial wastes, pharmaceutical products, human body fluids and many other matrices. It summarizes the advances in sensing and biosensing methods for the detection of BPs since 2010. Furthermore, the article discusses challenges and future perspectives in the development of novel sensing methods for the detection of BP analogs.

Abstract
TBBP-A is a high production volume chemical applied widely as a flame retardant in printed circuit boards. Recent studies have raised concern over potential harmful implications of TBBP-A exposure in human and wildlife, leading to its classification under group 2A "Probably carcinogenic to humans" by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. This article provides a comprehensive review of the available literature on TBBP-A analysis, environmental levels and human exposure. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) has been identified as the method of choice for robust, accurate and sensitive analysis of TBBP-A in different matrices. TBBP-A has been detected in almost all environmental compartments all over the world, rendering it a ubiquitous contaminant. Human exposure studies revealed dust ingestion and diet as the major pathways of TBBP-A exposure in the general population. Toddlers are likely to be more exposed than adults via accidental indoor dust ingestion. Moreover, exposure to TBBP-A may occur prenatally and via breast milk. There are no current restrictions on the production of TBBP-A in the EU or worldwide. However, more research is required to characterise human exposure to TBBP-A in and around production facilities, as well as in e-waste recycling regions.

Abstract
A fluorescence sensing material based on quantum dots with excellent optical properties and molecularly imprinted polymer (QDs@MIP) with specific recognition has been developed. First the surface of CdSe/ZnS QDs was modified with ionic liquids (ILs) by electrostatic interaction. The fluorescence sensing material was constructed from anchoring the MIP layer on IL modified CdSe/ZnS QDs by copolymerization, which had been developed for the detection of carbaryl in rice and Chinese cabbage. The MIP fluorescence was more strongly quenched by carbaryl than the non-imprinted polymer (NIP) fluorescence, which indicated that the QDs@MIP could selectively recognize the corresponding carbaryl. Furthermore, the developed QDs@MIP method was validated by HPLC and ELISA respectively, and the results of these methods were well correlated (R(2) = 0.98). The fluorescence sensing material had obvious advantages, such as being easily prepared and having specific recognition and photostability. The developed method was simple and effective for the detection of carbaryl. And, it could also provide the technical support for the rapid detection in food safety fields.

Abstract
A novel optosensing chip was constructed by anchoring the fluorescence sensing material layer based on molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) coated CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) on a chip for highly selective and sensitive optosensing of sesamol in sesame oil. Many factors that affected the performance of the optosensing chip based on MIP-coated QDs are discussed. Under optimized conditions, the relative fluorescence intensity of the optosensing chip decreased linearly (r(2) > 0.99) with increasing sesamol concentration in the range from 2.4 × 10(-6) to 1.2 × 10(-3) mol L(-1) with a detection limit of 7.2 × 10(-8) mol L(-1). The relative standard deviation for five replicate detections of 4.8 × 10(-4) mol L(-1) sesamol was 2.2%. Recoveries of 94.8-102.3% were achieved by direct detection when the optosensing chip was used for the selective detection of sesamol in sesame oil. Practically, the optosensing approach showed high sensitivity, good selectivity, and excellent reproducibility for the detection of sesamol in real oil samples.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers are synthetic polymers possessing specific cavities designed for target molecules. They are prepared by copolymerization of a cross-linking agent with the complex formed from a template and monomers that have functional groups specifically interacting with the template through covalent or noncovalent bonds. Subsequent removal of the imprint template leaves specific cavities whose shape, size, and functional groups are complementary to the template molecule. Because of their predetermined selectivity, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can be used as ideal materials in wastewater treatment. Especially, MIP-based composites offer a wide range of potentialities in wastewater treatment. This paper reviews the latest applications of MIPs in wastewater treatment, highlights the development of MIP-based composites in wastewater, and offers suggestions for future success in the field of MIPs.

Abstract
A reliable and robust direct screening methodology based on a quantum dot (QD) fluorescent immunoassay has been developed to detect trace levels of different antibiotic species from the family of the tetracyclines (e.g., oxytetracycline, tetracycline, chlortetracycline, and doxycycline) in contaminated bovine muscle tissues. First, the synthesis and characterization of a new immunoprobe (oxytetracycline-bovine serum albumin-QD) has been carried out for its further application in the development of a competitive fluorescent QD-immunoassay. The developed fluoroimmunoassay provides sensitive and binary "yes/no" responses being appropriate for the screening of this family of antibiotics above or below a preset concentration threshold. The detection limit achieved with this strategy, 1 μg/L in aqueous media and 10 μg/kg in bovine muscle samples, is 10-fold lower than the maximum level concentration allowed by International Legislation in muscle tissue, enabling suitable and efficient screening of the antibiotics.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with trinitrophenol (TNP) as a dummy template molecule capped with CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were prepared using 3-aminopropyltriethoxy silane (APTES) as the functional monomer and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as the cross linker through a seed-growth method via a sol-gel process (i.e., DMIP@QDs) for the sensing of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) on the basis of electron-transfer-induced fluorescence quenching. With the presence and increase of TNT in sample solutions, a Meisenheimer complex was formed between TNT and the primary amino groups on the surface of the QDs. The energy of the QDs was transferred to the complex, resulting in the quenching of the QDs and thus decreasing the fluorescence intensity, which allowed the TNT to be sensed optically. DMIP@QDs generated a significantly reduced fluorescent intensity within less than 10 min upon binding TNT. The fluorescence-quenching fractions of the sensor presented a satisfactory linearity with TNT concentrations in the range of 0.8-30 μM, and its limit of detection could reach 0.28 μM. The sensor exhibited distinguished selectivity and a high binding affinity to TNT over its possibly competing molecules of 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), phenol, and dinitrotoluene (DNT) because there are more nitro groups in TNT and therefore a stronger electron-withdrawing ability and because it has a high similarity in shape and volume to TNP. The sensor was successfully applied to determine the amount of TNT in soil samples, and the average recoveries of TNT at three spiking levels ranged from 90.3 to 97.8% with relative standard deviations below 5.12%. The results provided an effective way to develop sensors for the rapid recognition and determination of hazardous materials from complex matrices.
