Abstract
We report a metal/light-free aerobic oxidative C-C bond formation using sp3 C-H bond activation of tetrahydroisoquinolines catalyzed by flavin and iodine. The dual catalytic system enabled the oxidative Mannich and aza-Henry reactions by the cross-dehydrogenative coupling between two sp3 C-H bonds. Furthermore, the flavin-iodine-coupled catalysis was applied to the synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines through the sequential oxidative 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition and dehydrogenative aromatization. The biomimetic flavin catalysis efficiently activates molecular oxygen; thus the non-metal dual catalytic system enables green oxidative transformation using molecular oxygen as an environmentally friendly terminal oxidant which generates benign water.

Abstract
Aerobic oxidative cross-coupling represents one of the most straightforward and atom-economic methods for construction of C-C and C-X (X=N, O, S, or P) bonds using air as a sustainable external oxidant. The oxidative coupling of C-H bonds in heterocyclic compounds can effectively increase their molecular complexity by introducing new functional groups through C-H bond activation, or by formation of new heterocyclic structures through cascade construction of two or more sequential chemical bonds. This is very useful as it can increase the potential applications of these structures in natural products, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, and functional materials. This is a representative overview of recent progress since 2010 on green oxidative coupling reactions of C-H bond using O2 or air as internal oxidant focus on Heterocycles. It aims to provide a platform for expanding the scope and utility of air as green oxidant, together with a brief discussion on research into the mechanisms behind it.

Abstract
Tetrahydroisoquinoline and its fused polyheterocycles are prevalent structural motifs found in numerous natural products. In this study, we report a highly efficient and convergent synthetic approach for the construction of tetrahydroisoquinoline-fused polyheterocycles through a three-component formal [2 + 2 + 2] annulation process by combining 3,4-dihydroisoquinolines, CO2, and benzynes. Notably, electron-rich 3,4-dihydroisoquinolines and electron-deficient benzynes exhibit greater reactivity in this annulation. Moreover, this method benefits from the convergent synthesis and the utilization of carbon dioxide, providing a valuable strategy for the facile synthesis of tetrahydroisoquinoline-fused polyheterocycles, with potential applications in the discovery and development of novel organic molecules.

Abstract
A new photocatalyst-free strategy for the cross-dehydrogenative C-C and C-P coupling reaction has been described. This protocol provides a concise method to synthesize various 1-substituted tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) derivatives enabled by visible-light direct excitation of substrates without using any photocatalyst. Moreover, a wide substrate scope demonstrated good synthetic versatility and practicality.

Abstract
Despite extensive efforts by many practitioners in the field, methods for the direct α-C-H bond functionalization of unprotected alicyclic amines remain rare. A new advance in this area utilizes N-lithiated alicyclic amines. These readily accessible intermediates are converted to transient imines through the action of a simple ketone oxidant, followed by alkylation with a β-ketoacid under mild conditions to provide valuable β-amino ketones with unprecedented ease. Regioselective α'-alkylation is achieved for substrates with existing α-substituents. The method is further applicable to the convenient one-pot synthesis of polycyclic dihydroquinolones through the incorporation of a SN Ar step.

Abstract
Herein, a novel method for the gram-scale synthesis of (E)-quinoxalinone oximes through a multicomponent reaction under mild conditions is described. Such a transformation was performed under transition-metal-free conditions, affording (E)-oximes in a moderate-to-good yield through recrystallization. Our methodology demonstrates a successful combination of a Mannich-type reaction and radical coupling, providing a green and practical approach for the synthesis of potentially bioactive quinoxalinone-containing molecules.

Abstract
Functionalization of α-C–H bonds of tertiary amines to build various α-C–X bonds has become a mainstream in synthetic chemistry nowadays. However, due to lack of fundamental knowledge on α-C–H bond strength as an energetic guideline, rational exploration of new synthetic methodologies remains a far-reaching anticipation. Herein, we report a unique hydricity-based approach to establish the first integrated energetic scale covering both the homolytic and heterolytic energies of α-C–H bonds for 45 representative tertiary amines and their radical cations. As showcased from the studies on tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs) by virtue of their thermodynamic criteria, the feasibility and mechanisms of THIQ oxidation were deduced, which, indeed, were found to correspond well with experimental observations. This integrated scale provides a good example to relate bond energetics with mechanisms and thermodynamic reactivity of amine α-C–H functionalization and hence, may be referenced for analyzing similar structure-property problems for various substrates. Abstract
An efficient C1-difluoromethylation of tetrahydroisoquinolenes was achieved using TMSCF2SPh as a difluoromethylating agent and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxoammonium tetrafluoroborate (TEMPO+BF4-) as an oxidant. The process provides an access to a variety of C1-difluoro(phenylsulfanyl)methylated tetrahydroisoquinoline adducts in good yields. These adducts were employed as key precursors for preparing fluorinated pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline and benzo[a]quinolizidines.

Abstract
(±)-Tetrabenazine was synthesized in six steps from commercially available compounds. The key cyclization substrate was assembled rapidly via Baylis-Hillman and aza-Michael reactions. Annulation of the final ring was achieved through visible light photocatalysis, wherein carbon-carbon bond formation was driven by the oxidation of a tertiary amine. Solvent played a critical role in the photoredox cyclization outcome, whereas methanol led to a mixed ketal, acetonitrile/water (10:1) gave direct cyclization to (±)-tetrabenazine and occurred more rapidly.
