Abstract
Fibrous nano-silica sphere (KCC-1) has appeared as a good and efficient catalyst for ultrasonic irradiation conditions in chemical reactions. This catalyst has the unique properties such as a fibrous surface morphology, high surface area and high mechanical stability. The results indicated that the KCC-1 nanocatalyst could be used as high-performance catalysts under high temperature and pressure condition in organic reaction under ultrasonic irradiation. Morphology, structure, and composition of the fibrous nano-silica sphere were described by N2 adsorption–desorption analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). In this work, we used KCC-1@NH2 nanosilica as a basic catalyst for the preparation of chromenes under ultrasonic irradiation conditions for the first time. The recyclability, nontoxicity and high stability of the catalyst, combined with low reaction times and excellent yields, make the present protocol very useful for the synthesis of the title products under ultrasonic conditions. The produced products were confirmed via 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR analysis.

Abstract
A series of alkoxy-substituted 2H-chromenes were synthesized by a one-pot three-component reaction using salicylaldehydes, acetyl acetone and alcohol as reactant and medium with tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride (TBAF) as catalyst. Simple reaction conditions, short reaction time and overall good yield of products make this synthetic strategy an efficient one to synthesize 2H-chromene molecules. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for antioxidant activities. Among all the new compounds, 5j and 5k showed good inhibition [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]) at 100 [Formula: see text] concentrations.

Abstract
Trends in greener and sustainable process development during the past 25 years are abridged involving the use of alternate energy inputs (mechanochemistry, ultrasound- or microwave irradiation), photochemistry, and greener reaction media as applied to synthesis of organics and nanomaterials. In the organic synthesis arena, examples comprise assembly of heterocyclic compounds, coupling and a variety of other name reactions catalyzed by basic water or recyclable magnetic nanocatalysts. Generation of nanoparticles benefits from the biomimetic approaches where vitamins, sugars, and plant polyphenols, including agricultural waste residues, can serve as reducing and capping agents. Metal nanocatalysts (Pd, Au, Ag, Ni, Ru, Ce, Cu, etc.) immobilized on biodegradable supports such as cellulose and chitosan, or on recyclable magnetic ferrites via ligands, namely dopamine or glutathione, are receiving special attention. These strategic approaches attempt to address most of the Green Chemistry Principles while producing functional chemicals with utmost level of waste minimization.

Abstract
Soil-borne plant pathogens such as nematodes, fungi and some bacteria not only affect the plant cultures but also economy and environmental implications. As a result of these pathogens attacks, the yield and quality of crops is affected. Therefore, synthesis of new compounds to control these pathogens is very important and need of time. Chromenes are considered important group of heterocyclic compounds and exhibited significant biological activities. 2-amino-3-cyano chromenes are considered important medicinal scaffolds among the chromenes. We describe three component microwave assisted synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyano chromenes. The versatility of the reaction was examined by varying the aldehydes in the reaction mixture which lead to the synthesis of series of 2-amino-3-cyanochromenes (1-9). The structural elucidations of the compounds were studied by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HRMS and FTIR spectrometer and results were well correlated. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and nematicidal activities. Among the synthesized compounds, compound 6 showed good anti-bacterial activity while compound 9 exhibited high anti-fungal activity. In case of nematicidal activity, compound 8 indicated high activity as compare with other compounds followed by compound 9. Results indicate that these synthesized compounds could be used as effective control for soil-borne plant pathogens such as nematodes, fungi and bacteria and can help to improve the plant production.

Abstract
The reaction of racemic 2-amino-4H-pyrans, such as 3-amino-1-aryl-1H-benzo[f]chromene-2-carbonitriles, with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), in CH2Cl2, at room temperature, is a very quick, regio, stereoselective, and high yielding process, affording major racemic (1S, 2S)-2-bromo-3-imino-benzo[f]chromene or racemic (1S, 2S)-2-bromo-3-(bromoimino)-benzo[f]chromene derivatives, when using 1.0 or 2.2 equivalents of NBS, respectively. This reaction, extended to isomeric 2-amino-4-aryl-4H-benzo[h]chromene-3-carbonitriles, showed an unexpected reactivity, affording racemic (3S,4S)-3-bromo-2-(bromoimino)-benzo[h]chromene-3-carbonitriles or 2-oxo-2H-benzo[h]chromene-3-carbonitriles, when using 2.2 or 1.0 equivalents of NBS, respectively. The reaction of alkyl 6-amino-5-cyano-2-methyl-4H-pyran-3-carboxylates has yielded unstable racemic (3S,4S)-alkyl 3-bromo-2-(bromoimino)-3-cyano-6-methyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran-5-carboxylates. The mechanism of these reactions has been investigated by computational methods.

Abstract
Fifteen novel 2-substituted isoflavenes were synthesised via nucleophilic addition to isoflavylium salts. Twelve of the newly synthesised isoflavenes, along with the unsubstituted parent isoflavene, were tested in cell viability assays against the SHEP neuroblastoma and MDA-MB-231 breast adenocarcinoma cell lines. While the 2-substituted isoflavenes displayed a range of anti-proliferative activities, in most cases they were less active that the unsubstituted isoflavene (IC50=9.9 μM vs SHEP; IC50=33 μM vs MDA-MB-231). However, compound 7f, derived from the reaction between isoflavylium salt 5 and para-methoxyacetophenone, showed improved anti-proliferative activity against breast cancer cells (IC50=7.6 μM). Furthermore, compound 7f, as well as analogues 7a, 7c, 11d and 14, inhibited the production of interleukin-6 in LPS-activated RAW 264.7 cells.

Abstract
Isoflavone consumption correlates with reduced rates of cardiovascular disease. Epidemiological studies and clinical data provide evidence that isoflavone metabolites, such as the isoflavan equol, contribute to these beneficial effects. In this study we developed a new route to isoflavans and isoflavenes via 2-morpholinoisoflavenes derived from a condensation reaction of phenylacetaldehydes, salicylaldehydes and morpholine. We report the synthesis of the isoflavans equol and deoxygenated analogues, and the isoflavenes 7,4'-dihydroxyisoflav-3-ene (phenoxodiol, haganin E) and 7,4'-dihydroxyisoflav-2-ene (isophenoxodiol). Vascular pharmacology studies reveal that all oxygenated isoflavans and isoflavenes can attenuate phenylephrine-induced vasoconstriction, which was unaffected by the estrogen receptor antagonist ICI 182,780. Furthermore, the compounds inhibited U46619 (a thromboxane A(2) analogue) induced vasoconstriction in endothelium-denuded rat aortae, and reduced the formation of GTP RhoA, with the effects being greatest for equol and phenoxodiol. Ligand displacement studies of rat uterine cytosol estrogen receptor revealed the compounds to be generally weak binders. These data are consistent with the vasorelaxation activity of equol and phenoxodiol deriving at least in part by inhibition of the RhoA/Rho-kinase pathway, and along with the limited estrogen receptor affinity supports a role for equol and phenoxodiol as useful agents for maintaining cardiovascular function with limited estrogenic effects.

Abstract
A new route to the chromene ring system has been developed which involves the reaction of an α,β-unsaturated Fischer carbene complex of chromium with a propargyl ether bearing an alkenyl group on the propargylic carbon. This transformation involves a cascade of reactions that begins with a benzannulation reaction and is followed by the formation of an o-quinone methide, and finally results in the emergence of a chromene upon an electrocyclization. This reaction was extended to provide access by employing an aryl carbene complex. This constitutes the first synthesis of chromenes in which both rings of the chromene system are generated in a single step and is highlighted in the synthesis of lapachenole and vitamin E.

Abstract
A nonclassical heating technique using microwaves, termed "Bunsen burner of the 21st century", is rapidly becoming popular and is dramatically reducing reaction times. The significant outcomes of microwave (MW)-assisted green chemistry endeavors, which have resulted in the development of synthetic protocols for drugs and fine chemicals synthesis that are relatively more sustainable, are summarized. The use of emerging microwave-assisted chemistry techniques in conjunction with greener reaction media is dramatically reducing chemical waste and reaction times in several organic syntheses and chemical transformations. A brief historic account of our own experiences in developing MW-assisted organic transformations, which involve various benign alternatives, such as solid-supported reagents, and greener reaction media, namely, aqueous, ionic liquid, and solvent-free, for the synthesis of various heterocycles, coupling reactions, oxidation-reduction reactions, and some name reactions are described. Synthesis of Heterocycles. The synthetic chemistry community has been under increased pressure to produce, in an environmentally benign fashion, the myriad of heterocyclic systems required by society in a short span of time, and one of the best options to accelerate these synthetic processes is to use MW technology. The efficient use of the MW heating approach for the synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds in aqueous and solvent-free medium is discussed. Organic Named Reactions. The application of MW chemistry for various named reaction such as the Prins reaction, the Suzuki reaction, the Heck reaction, the Aza-Michael reaction, Trost's gamma-addition, and the Cannizzaro reaction are summarized. Synthesis and Application of Ionic Liquids. Ionic liquids (ILs), being polar and ionic, in character couple with MW irradiation very efficiently and are, therefore, ideal MW-absorbing candidates for expediting chemical reactions. MW-assisted solvent-free synthesis and application of ILs are discussed. Oxidation-Reduction Reactions. MW protocols using mineral oxides such as alumina, silica, and clay to immobilize reagents on such solid supports have been extensively explored under "dry" media conditions. Various solvent-free examples of oxidation reactions are discussed that involve mixing of neat substrates with clay-supported iron(III) nitrate (clayfen) or iodobenzene diacetate (IBD) as an oxidant; some interesting MW reduction protocols using borohydrides are also discussed. Protection-Deprotection Reactions. The protection and deprotection of alcohols and amines are common events in multistep organic syntheses. Various protection and deprotection protocols under MW irradiation are discussed, including tetrahydropyranylation and (benzyloxycarbonyl) (Cbz)-protection, which are the most frequently employed methods.

Abstract
We present herein the results of microwave promoted N-alkylations of isatin (1)with different alkyl, benzyl and functionalized alkyl halides. Reactions were carried out under different conditions, always employing methodologies compatible with MW assisted chemistry. Generation of isatin anion employing diverse bases and solvents or using the preformed isatin sodium salt was tested. The best results were achieved using K(2)CO(3) or Cs(2)CO(3) and a few drops of N,N-dimethylformamide or N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone. These reactions present noteworthy advantages over those carried out employing conventional heating.

Abstract
2H-Chromenes were synthesized from salicylaldehyde using potassium vinylic borates in the presence of secondary amines. We synthesized these 2H-chromene derivatives as a part of an ongoing project to develop inhibitors for TGF-β receptors. Potassium vinyl trifluoroborates react with salicylaldehydes at 80 °C in the presence of a secondary amine and produced 2-substituted 2H-chromene derivatives with a 70-90% yield.

Abstract
The utilization of green chemistry techniques is dramatically reducing chemical waste and reaction times as has recently been proven in several organic syntheses and chemical transformations. To illustrate these advantages in the synthesis of bioactive heterocycles, we have studied various environmentally benign protocols that involve greener alternatives. Microwave (MW) irradiation of neat reactants catalyzed by the surfaces of recyclable mineral supports, such as alumina, silica, clay, or their "doped" versions, enables the rapid one-pot assembly of heterocyclic compounds, such as flavonoids, related benzopyrans, and quinolone derivatives. The strategy to assemble oxygen and nitrogen heterocycles from in situ generated reactive intermediates via enamines or using hypervalent iodine reagents is described. Examples of multicomponent reactions that can be adapted for rapid parallel synthesis include solventless synthesis of dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-ones (Biginelli reaction), imidazo[1,2-a]annulated pyridines, pyrazines, and pyrimidines (Ugi reaction). The relative advantages of greener pathways, which use MW irradiation and eco-friendly aqueous reaction medium, for the synthesis of various heterocycles, such as N-aryl azacycloalkanes, isoindoles, 1,3-dioxane, 1,3,4-oxadiazole, 1,3,4-thiadiazole, pyrazole, and diazepines, are also summarized.
