Abstract
Hexafluoro-2-butyne (C4F6) is a potential eco-friendly alternative gas in plasma, refrigerants, and electrical insulation applications. Mechanisms for the reactions of C4F6 with OH/O2 have been revealed in detail using various theoretical methods including ROCBS-Q, RCCSD(T), multireference RS2C, and extrapolations to the complete basis-set limit with Aug-cc-pVnZ (n = T, Q, 5) basis sets. Rate coefficients and product branching ratios were predicted for a wide range of temperatures and pressures using the solution of master equations. The vibrationally adiabatic ground-state barrier for the initial C4F6 + OH association was best estimated to be 1.53-2.26 kcal/mol. Energetically preferable decomposition paths for the conformation-dependent C4F6OH adducts include six-center HF elimination, four-center proton migration, and C-C bond cleavage, but the collisional deactivation is dominant under ambient conditions. The subsequent oxidation of C4F6OH by O2 bifurcates in two orientations and proceeds without any well-defined barrier followed by the successive isomerization/elimination steps, forming perfluorobiacetyl to regenerate OH radicals or trifluoroacetic acid with trifluoroacetyl radicals. The OH-recycling path accounts for a branching ratio of 70% under ambient conditions. Theoretical rate coefficients are in good agreement with the available experimental results. The effect of fluorination on the reactivity of alkynes toward OH/O2 is discussed.

Abstract
Peroxy radical hydrogen-shifts are pivotal elementary reaction steps in the oxidation of small hydrocarbons in autoignition and the lower atmosphere. Although these reactions are typically associated with a substantial barrier, we demonstrate that the [1,5]H-shift in the peroxy species derived from the 2-hydroxyphenyl radical 1 is so facile that it even proceeds rapidly in an argon matrix at 35 K through a proton-coupled electron transfer mechanism. Hydrogen-bound complexes of o-benzoquinone are identified as the main reaction products by infrared spectroscopy although their formation through O-O bond scission is hampered by a barrier of 11.9 kcal mol-1 at the ROCCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ/UB3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory.

Abstract
N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) as a disinfection by-product has recently become the focus of considerable research interest due to its unusually high carcinogenicity. In this study, the formation mechanisms of NDMA from dimethylamine (DMA) during chloramination and ozonation were investigated by using the quantum chemical G4 method. The reactivity of haloamines and hydroxylamine reacting with DMA was found in the order: NHCl2∼NHBrCl (Br-leaving)>NHBr2>NH2Cl∼NH2Br>>NH2OH. This offers a theoretical support for the experimentally proposed mechanism that dimethylamine reacts with NHCl2 rather than NH2Cl to form chlorinated unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine intermediate and the existence of bromochloramine in the presence of bromide during chloramination, and explains the observation that NDMA yield during ozonation is much lower than that during chloramination. Importantly, an N,N-dimethylaminonitrene was found to be a significant intermediate to form NDMA in oxidation reactions by molecular oxygen and ozone. Additionally, results suggest that the amines containing the second nitrogen source directly connecting or close to the N-(CH3)2 moiety are potential significant NDMA precursors upon ozonation. The findings of this study are helpful for expanding the knowledge of NDMA formation mechanism, and predicting potential NDMA precursors during disinfection.

Abstract
High-level ab initio and Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamic calculations have been carried out on a series of hydroperoxyalkyl (α-QOOH) radicals with the aim of investigating the stability and unimolecular decomposition mechanism into QO+OH of these species. Dissociation was shown to take place through rotation of the C-O(OH) bond rather than through elongation of the CO-OH bond. Through the C-O(OH) rotation, the unpaired electron of the radical overlaps with the electron density on the O-OH bond, and from this overlap the C=O π bond forms and the O-OH bond breaks spontaneously. The CH2 OOH, CH(CH3 )OOH, CH(OH)OOH, and α-hydroperoxycycloheptadienyl radical were found to decompose spontaneously, but the CH(CHO)OOH has a decomposition energy barrier of 5.95 kcal mol-1 owing to its steric and electronic features. The systems studied in this work provide the first insights into how structural and electronic effects govern the stabilizing influence on elusive α-QOOH radicals.

Abstract
Bimolecular reactions in Earth's atmosphere are generally assumed to proceed between reactants whose internal quantum states are fully thermally relaxed. Here, we highlight a dramatic role for vibrationally excited bimolecular reactants in the oxidation of acetylene. The reaction proceeds by preliminary adduct formation between the alkyne and OH radical, with subsequent O(2) addition. Using a detailed theoretical model, we show that the product-branching ratio is determined by the excited vibrational quantum-state distribution of the adduct at the moment it reacts with O(2). Experimentally, we found that under the simulated atmospheric conditions O(2) intercepts ~25% of the excited adducts before their vibrational quantum states have fully relaxed. Analogous interception of excited-state radicals by O(2) is likely common to a range of atmospheric reactions that proceed through peroxy complexes.

Abstract
CBS-QB3 calculations have been used to determine thermochemical and kinetic parameters of the isomerisation and decomposition reactions of the acetonylperoxy radical, CH3C(O)CH2OO* , which has been formed via the reaction of acetonyl radical with O2 leading to the formation of an energised peroxy adduct with a calculated well depth of near 111 kJ mol(-1). This species can undergo subsequent 1,5 and 1,3 H-shifts to give the primary and secondary radicals: C*H2C(O)CH2OOH and CH3C(O)C*HOOH, respectively, or rearrange to give a 3-methyl-1,2-dioxetan-3-yloxy radical. Rate constants for isomerisation and subsequent decomposition have been estimated using canonical variational transition state theory with small curvature tunneling cvt/sct. The variational effect for the isomerisation channels is only moderate but the tunneling correction is significant at temperatures up to 1000 K; the formation of a primary radical by a 1,5-shift is the main reaction channel and the competition with the secondary one starts only at around 1500 K. The fate of the primary acetonylhydroperoxy radical is predominantly to form oxetan-3-one while the ketene and 1-oxy-3-hydroxyacetonyl radical channels only compete with the formation of oxetan-3-one at temperatures >1200 K. In addition, consistent and reliable enthalpies of formation have been computed for the molecules acetonylhydroperoxide, 1,3-dihydroxyacetone, methylglyoxal and cyclobutanone, and for some related radicals.
