Abstract
Time-dependent monitoring of the reactive intermediates provides valuable information about the mechanism of a synthetic transformation. However, the process frequently involves intermediates with short lifetimes that significantly challenge the accessibility of the desired kinetic data. We report in situ cyclic voltammetry (CV) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy studies of the cycloaddition reaction of organobismuth(III) compounds with organic azides under the copper(I)-catalyzed conditions. A series of bismuth(III) acetylides carrying diphenyl sulfone scaffolds have been synthesized to study the underlying electronic and steric effects of the tethered moieties capable of transannular oxygen O···Bi interactions and para-functionality of the parent phenylacetylene backbones. While belonging to the family of copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reactions, the reaction yielding 5-bismuth(III)-triazolide is the sole example of a complex catalytic transformation that features activity of bismuth(III) acetylides towards organic azides under copper(I)-catalyzed conditions. Stepwise continuous monitoring of the copper(I)/copper(0) redox activity of the copper(I) catalyst by cyclic voltammetry provided novel insights into the complex catalytic cycle of the bismuth(III)-triazolide formation. From CV-derived kinetic data, reaction rate parameters of the bismuth(III) acetylides coordination to the copper(I) catalyst (KA) and equilibrium concentration of the copper species [cat]eq. are compared with the overall 5-bismuth(III)-triazolide formation rate constant kobs obtained by 1H-NMR kinetic analysis.

Abstract
Successful combinations of visible-light photocatalysis with metal catalysis have recently enabled the development of hitherto unknown chemical reactions. Dual mechanisms from merging metal-free photocatalysts and earth-abundant metal catalysts are still in their infancy. We report a photo-organo-iron-catalyzed cyclotrimerization of alkynes by photoredox activation of a ligand-free Fe catalyst. The reaction operates under very mild conditions (visible light, 20 °C, 1 h) with 1-2 mol % loading of the three catalysts (dye, amine, FeCl2 ).

Abstract
The 1,4-diethynylbenzene motif is commonly employed as a bridging ligand in bimetallic molecular systems intended to show pronounced intramolecular electronic interactions, delocalized electronic structures and 'wire-like' properties between the metal fragments at the ligand termini. In contrast to these expectations, the donor-acceptor compounds [{Cp'(CO)xM'}(μ-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CC6H4C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C){M(PP)Cp'}]n+ [n = 0, 1; M'(CO)xCp' = Fe(CO)2Cp, W(CO)3Cp*; M(PP)Cp' = Fe(dppe)Cp, Fe(dppe)Cp*, Ru(PPh3)2Cp, Ru(dppe)Cp, Ru(dppe)Cp*] display remarkably little bridge-mediated electronic interaction between the electron-rich {M(PP)Cp'} and electron-poor {M'(CO)xCp'} fragments in the ground state. However, a relatively high-energy (26 000-30 000 cm-1) M-to-M' charge transfer can be identified. One-electron oxidation is largely localized on the {M(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR)(PP)Cp'} fragment and gives rise to a new charge transfer band with bridging-ligand-to-{M(PP)Cp'}+ (M'(CO)xCp' = Fe(CO)2Cp) or M'-to-M(+) (M(CO)xCp' = W(CO)3Cp*) character. The localized electronic ground state of these complexes is better revealed through analysis of the IR spectra, taking advantage of the well-resolved ν(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C) and ν(CO) bands and IR spectroelectrochemical methods, than through the more classical analysis based on the concepts of Marcus-Hush theory and analysis of the putative IVCT electronic transition. The conclusions are supported by DFT calculations using the BLYP35 functional.

Abstract
Electronic structures and optical properties of a series of compounds Fe(dppe)(η5-C5Me5){[C≡C(1,4-C6H4)]nNO2} (1–3; n = 1–3, dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) were investigated with the aid of density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory computations. The results reveal that the extension of the carbon-rich chain has a moderate influence on the electronic properties of the studied compounds in their ground state, but affects notably their spectroscopic properties, with some unexpected hypsochromic shift of the lower energy absorption bands upon carbon chain lengthening. The appropriate excitations responsible for the low-energy absorption bands involve mainly HOMO–LUMO transitions dominated by important metal-to-ligand charge transfer. A functional including long-range corrections is necessary to reproduce the experimental results.

Abstract
Treatment of [Cp*(dppe)Fe-C≡C-TTFMe3] (1) with Ag[PF6] (3 equiv) in DMF provides the binuclear complex [Cp*(dppe)Fe=C=C=TTFMe2 =CH-CH=TTFMe2 =C=C=Fe(dppe)Cp*][PF6]2 (2[PF6 ]2) isolated as a deep-blue powder in 69 % yield. EPR monitoring of the reaction and comparison of the experimental and calculated EPR spectra allowed the identification of the radical salt [Cp*(dppe)Fe=C=C=TTFMe2 =CH][PF6]2 ([1-CH][PF6]) an intermediate of the reaction, which results from the activation of the methyl group attached in vicinal position with respect to the alkynyl-iron on the TTF ligand by the triple oxidation of 1 leading to its deprotonation by the solvent. The dimerization of [1-CH][PF6] through carbon-carbon bond formation provides 2[PF6]2. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments show that 2[PF6]2 is subject to two sequential well-reversible one-electron reductions yielding the complexes 2[PF6] and 2. The CV also shows that further oxidation of 2[PF6]2 generates 2[PF6]n (n=3-6) at the electrode. Treatment of 2[PF6]2 with KOtBu provides 2[PF6] and 2 as stable powders. The salts 2[PF6] and 2[PF6]2 were characterized by XRD. The electronic structures of 2(n+) (n=0-2) were computed. The new complexes were also characterized by NMR, IR, Mössbauer, EPR, UV/Vis and NIR spectroscopies. The data show that the three complexes 2[PF6]n are iron(II) derivatives in the ground state. In the solid state, the dication 2(2+) is diamagnetic and has a bis(allenylidene-iron) structure with one positive charge on each iron building block. In solution, as a result of the thermal motion of the metal-carbon backbone, the triplet excited state becomes thermally accessible and equilibrium takes place between singlet and triplet states. In 2[PF6], the charge and the spin are both symmetrically distributed on the carbon bridge and only moderately on the iron and TTFMe2 electroactive centers.

Abstract
The diruthenium compound trans-Ru(2)(DMBA)(4)(C≡C-C(6)H(4)-4-CHO)(2) (1; DMBA is N,N'-dimethylbenzamidinate) was prepared from the reaction between Ru(2)(DMBA)(4)(NO(3))(2) and HC≡C-C(6)H(4)-4-CHO under the weak base conditions. The aldehyde groups of 1 undergo a condensation reaction with NH(2)C(6)H(4)-4-Y (Y = H and NH(2)) to afford new compounds trans-Ru(2)(DMBA)(4)(C≡C-C(6)H(4)-4-CH═N-C(6)H(4)-4'-Y)(2) (Y = H (2) and NH(2) (3)). A related compound, Ru(2)(DMBA)(4)(C≡C-C(6)H(4)-4-N═C(Me)Fc)(2) (4), was also prepared from the reaction between Ru(2)(DMBA)(4)(NO(3))(2) and HC≡C-C(6)H(4)-N═C(Me)Fc. X-ray structural studies of compounds 1 and 2 revealed significant deviation from an idealized D(4h) geometry in the coordination sphere of the Ru(2) core. Voltammetric measurements revealed four one electron redox processes for compounds 1-3: the Ru(2) centered oxidation and reduction, and a pair of reductions of the imine or aldehyde groups. Compound 4 displays an additional oxidation attributed to the Fc groups. DFT calculations were performed on model compounds to gain a more thorough understanding of the interaction of the organic functional groups across the diruthenium bridge.
