Abstract
9,10-Bis(4-trimethylsilylethynylbutadiynyl)anthracene is readily availabe from the reaction of anthraquinone and LiCCCCSiMe3 followed by reduction with Sn(II) and serves as a convenient building block via desilylation and palladium-mediated C-C coupling processes for the construction of further butadiynylanthracenes terminated by metal complexes, arenes, haloarenes and alkynyl functionalities.

Recyclable optical bioplastics platform for solid state red light harvesting via triplet-triplet annihilation photon upconversion. JOURNAL OF MATERIALS CHEMISTRY. A 2022; 10:21279-21290. Abstract
Sustainable photonics applications of solid-state triplet-triplet annihilation photon upconversion (TTA-UC) are limited by a small UC spectral window, low UC efficiency in air, and non-recyclability of polymeric materials used. In a step to overcome these issues, we have developed new recyclable TTA-UC bioplastics by encapsulating TTA-UC chromophores liquid inside the semicrystalline gelatin films showing broad-spectrum upconversion (red/far-red to blue) with high UC efficiency in air. For this, we synthesized a new anionic annihilator, sodium-TIPS-anthracene-2-sulfonate (TIPS-AnS), that combined with red/far-red sensitizers (PdTPBP/Os(m-peptpy)2(TFSI)2), a liquid surfactant Triton X-100 reduced (TXr) and protein gelatin (G) formed red/far-red to blue TTA-UC bioplastic films just by air drying of their aqueous solutions. The G-TXr-TIPS-AnS-PdTPBP film showed record red to blue (633 to 478 nm) TTA-UC quantum yield of 8.5% in air. The high UC quantum yield has been obtained due to the fluidity of dispersed TXr containing chromophores and oxygen blockage by gelatin fibers that allowed efficient diffusion of triplet excited chromophores. Further, the G-TXr-TIPS-AnS-Os(m-peptpy)2(TFSI)2 bioplastic film displayed far-red to blue (700-730 nm to 478 nm) TTA-UC, demonstrating broad-spectrum photon harvesting. Finally, we demonstrated the recycling of G-TXr-TIPS-AnS-PdTPBP bioplastics by developing a downstream approach that gives new directions for designing future recyclable photonics bioplastic materials.

Abstract
Nucleophilic addition of carbon-centered nucleophiles to nanographene ketones represents a valuable late-stage method for the functionalization of zigzag nanographenes, but its use is rare in the chemical literature. Using two model systems, non-Kekulé triangulene-4,8-dione and Kekulé anthanthrone, we identify unexpected regioselectivities and uncover the rules that govern these reactions. Considering the large number of nanographene ketones that have been reported since the pioneering work of Eric Clar, this method enables synthesis and exploration of hitherto unknown functionalized nanographenes.

Abstract
Linear π-conjugated oligomers consisting of anthracene and diacetylene units were readily synthesized by a one-pot process that involved desilylation and oxidative coupling from appropriate building units. We were able to isolate length-defined oligomers ranging from 2-mer to 6-mer as stable and soluble solids. The bathochromic shifts in the UV-vis spectra suggested that the π-conjugation was extended with elongation of the linear chain. Cyclic voltammetric measurements showed characteristic reversible oxidation waves that were dependent on the number of anthracene units.

Abstract
We synthesised a series of dissymmetric bistolane derivatives and evaluated their liquid-crystalline (LC) and photoluminescence properties in detail. In measuring LC behaviours, rational structural design based on the dissymmetric molecular structure and electron-density distribution facilitated the production of the LC phase with a wide temperature range (up to 97 °C). In addition, dissymmetric bistolane derivatives were shown to strongly emit blue-photoluminescence in dilute solution and in crystalline states. It was found that dissymmetric bistolanes possess emissive features in even the LC phase and photoluminescence behaviours such as emission intensity and colour were sensitively switched depending on the molecular aggregate structure caused by applying a thermal stimulus.

Abstract
New 2-arylalkynyl benzo-1,3,2-diazaboroles, 2-(4'-XC(6)H(4)C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C)-1,3-Et(2)-1,3,2-N(2)BC(6)H(4) (X =Me ; MeO ; MeS ; Me(2)N ), were prepared from B-bromodiazaborole, 2-Br-1,3-Et(2)-1,3,2-N(2)BC(6)H(4), with the appropriate lithiated arylacetylene, ArC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CLi. Molecular structures of , and were determined by X-ray diffraction studies. UV-vis and luminescence spectroscopic studies on these diazaboroles reveal intense blue/violet fluorescence with very large quantum yields of 0.89-0.99 for . The experimental findings were complemented by DFT and TD-DFT calculations. The Stokes shift of only 2600 cm(-1) for , compared to Stokes shifts in the range of 5900-7300 cm(-1) for , is partly explained by the different electronic structures found in compared to (X = H). The HOMO is mainly located on the aryl group in and on the diazaborolyl group in whereas the LUMOs are largely aryl in character for all compounds. Thus, in contrast to other conjugated systems containing three-coordinate boron centers such as B(Mes)(2), (Mes = 2,4,6-Me(3)C(6)H(2)), in which the boron serves as a pi-acceptor, the 10-pi electron benzodiazaborole moiety appears to function as a pi-donor moiety.

Abstract
The design of a new class of fluorophores is presented. Some push-pull chromophores (D-pi-A) containing polyphenylethynyl units and a phosphane oxide moiety were efficiently prepared from common intermediates. Straightforward syntheses gave novel one-armed, rod-shaped and three-armed, star-shaped fluorophores. The optical properties of the resulting star-shaped derivatives were evaluated, showed high fluorescence quantum yields, and their excitation induces very efficient charge redistribution. Moreover, thanks to their push-pull character, the molecules exhibited significant second-order NLO properties with good transparency, up to 67x10(-30) esu at 1907 nm, with an absorption lambdamax at 369 nm. The effect of the donor group and of the number of phenylethynyl arms have been studied in this work.

Abstract
The torsional motions of jet-cooled 1,4-bis(phenylethynyl)benzene (BPEB), a prototype molecular wire, were studied using cavity ring-down spectroscopy in the first UV absorption band (316-321 nm). The torsional spectrum of 1,4-bis(phenylethynyl)-2,3,5,6-tetradeuteriobenzene was also recorded in the gas phase. Both spectra were successfully simulated using simple cosine potentials to describe the torsional motions. The ground-state barrier to rotation was estimated to be 220-235 cm(-1), which is similar to that of diphenylacetylene (tolane). Complementary DFT calculations were found to overestimate the torsional barrier.
