Abstract
A novel class of multiple B←N Lewis pair-functionalized polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with different BR2 groups (R = Cl or Et) directly attached at positions 1, 6, and 11 of triazatruxene was synthesized. The triazatruxene backbone of 4 displays a bowl shape, and its molecular skeleton shows a highly twisted propeller-like structure with C3 symmetry. The introduction of B←N Lewis pairs not only results in a large decrease in the HOMO-LUMO gap but also lowers the LUMO to -3.00 eV. Both compounds show excellent stability with large Stokes shifts of ≤8234 cm-1 and solvatochromic emission in solvents of different polarities.

Abstract
Herein, a room-temperature catalytic pathway for 1,3,5-tri(het)aryl derivatives from nitroalkenes using simple Pd(OAc)2 is presented. This newly developed C-C bond-forming methodology takes place in a cascade manner with the initial pallado-Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) type adduct. The broad substrate scopes, functional group tolerance, and different aryl-substituted benzene derivatives make this methodology more attractive. Furthermore, the mechanistic understanding through isolation of intermediates and DFT studies of the catalytic cycle provide requisite insight into the methodology.

Abstract
Arynes, strained cyclic alkynes, and strained cyclic allenes were validated as plausible intermediates in the 1950s and 1960s. Despite initially being considered mere scientific curiosities, these transient and highly reactive species have now become valuable synthetic building blocks. This Perspective highlights recent advances in the field that have allowed access to structural and stereochemical complexity, including recent breakthroughs in asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
π-Conjugated molecules with the shape of St. Andrew's cross have been synthesized via fourfold Huisgen reaction. Four 2,5-diaryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol arms are attached to a central pyrazine nucleus. These fluorescent stars, when decorated with a rim of eight alkoxy side chains are discotic liquid crystals. Depending on the substitution pattern, the width of the liquid phase varies within a broad range of 25 °C to 250 °C. In their liquid crystalline phase, the molecules assemble in a typical hexagonal columnar supramolecular arrangement.

Abstract
Novel phtotpolymerisable hole-transport layers based on novel triazatruxenes incorporating six non-conjugated dienes as photo cross-linkable end-groups attached to flexible, aliphatic spacers have been synthesised using simple one-step substitution reactions. Hole-only test devices, fabricated using a combination of solution-deposition, spin-coating and initiator-free photochemical cross-linking of these photopolymerisable triazatruxenes, exhibit almost identical current density vs. voltage profiles before and after cross-linking, and as such, represent a promising new class of hole-transport layer for plastic electronic devices. Novel triazatruxenes, incorporating non-conjugated dienes as photopolymerisable endgroups attached by flexible sidechains to the aromatic core, have been synthesised as a new class of hole-transport layer for plastic electronic devices.![]()

Abstract
A straightforward access to a hitherto unknown C3 -symmetric tricyclic triol both in racemic and enantiopure forms has been developed. Treatment of 7-tert-butoxynorbornadiene with peroxycarboxylic acids provided mixtures of C1 - and C3 -symmetric 3,5,7-triacyloxynortricyclenes via transannular π-cyclization and replacement of the tert-butoxy group. By refluxing in formic acid, the C1 -symmetric esters were converted to the C3 -symmetric formate. Hydrolysis gave diastereoisomeric triols, which were separated by recrystallization. Enantiomer resolution via diastereoisomeric tri(O-methylmandelates) delivered the target triols on a gram scale. The pure enantiomers are useful as core units of dopants for liquid crystals.

Abstract
We report simple strategies to synthesize star-shaped molecules containing different heterocycles integrated with a number of variations. Here, cyclotrimerization, Vilsmeier-Haack reaction, Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling, and Van Leusen oxazole synthesis have been used as key steps to introduce diverse five-membered heterocycles such as furan, thiophene, and oxazole. More importantly, readily available starting materials such as thiophene, 2-formyl furan, and 2-acetyl furan were utilized. Also, the fluorescent behavior of these π-conjugated systems was studied. C 3-Symmetric molecules containing furan moieties show a stronger fluorescence than thiophene-containing star-shaped compounds.

Abstract
A novel class of luminescent trinuclear alkynylgold(I) complexes with N-alkyl substituted triindole ligands has been synthesized and characterized. They are found to exhibit rich photophysical and electrochemical properties. The complexes have been demonstrated to display interesting supramolecular assembly with spherical nanostructures in aqueous THF solution through a cooperative growth mechanism. The self-assembly process is shown to be mediated by the π-π stacking interactions and hydrophobic-hydrophobic interactions of the triindole moieties upon solvent modulation. These gold(I) complexes have been employed as active materials in the fabrication of solution-processable resistive memory devices, showing promising binary memory performances with low switching threshold voltages of ca. 1.5 V, high ON/OFF current ratio of up to 105, long retention time of over 104 s, and excellent stability. The present work opens up a new avenue for the future design of versatile organogold(I) complexes that could serve as multifunctional materials.

A T-shaped Schiff-base triazatruxene derivative (TATNFF) was designed, synthesized, and explored as a sensitive probe to detect HCl gas by the naked eye. The remarkable color change of TATNFF with turn-on behavior in the presence of a trace amount of HCl gas was obviously observed by the naked eye, which opens up a new strategy to explore a novel set of smart responsive materials for sensing applications.

Abstract
We report the use of two solution-processable triindoles, triazatruxene (TAT), and N-trimethyltriindole (TMTI), as hole selective materials in organic solar cells. The unique optical and electronic properties of these molecules make them suitable as a hole extracting/electron blocking layer, i.e. transparency in the visible region due to a wide bandgap, high LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) energy level, modest HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) level, and high hole carrier mobility. TAT is shown to have a LUMO at -1.68 eV, a HOMO at -5.03 eV, and a bandgap of 3.35 eV, whereas TMTI has a LUMO at -2.05 eV, a HOMO at -5.1 eV, and a bandgap of 3.05 eV, obtained from cyclic voltammetry measurements and absorption spectroscopy. Planar heterojunction photovoltaic devices, consisting of a solution processed transparent TAT (or TMTI) layer and a vapor-deposited C60 layer, exhibited efficiencies of up to 0.71 % (or 0.87 %). In these bilayer devices, the excitons are primarily generated in the C60 layer and undergo dissociation in the interfaces via hole transfer from the C60 layer to the TAT (or TMTI) layer. Additionally, spin-casting methanol solution of TAT on the top of P3HT:PCBM bulk heterojunction in an inverted device produced a hole selective interfacial layer between the photoactive layer and anode, leading to a 26% efficiency increase as compared to a control device without the TAT layer.

Abstract
A series of star-shaped octupolar triazatruxenes (TATs, 1-6) with intramolecular "push-pull" structure were synthesized and their photophysical properties have been systematically investigated. These chromophores showed obvious solvatochromic effect, i.e., significant bathochromic shift of the emission spectra and larger Stokes shifts were observed in more polar solvents mainly due to photoinduced intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). The two-photon absorption (2PA) cross-section values were determined by two-photon excited fluorescence (2PEF) measurements in toluene and THF. These chromophores exhibited large two-photon absorption cross-sections ranging from 280 to 1620 GM in the near-infrared (NIR) region. Compound 6 showed the largest 2PA action cross-section (σ(2)Φ) of 564 GM and could be a potential two-photon fluorescent (2PF) probe. In addition, compounds 1-6 all displayed good thermal stability and photostability.

Abstract
Bridging the triindole core and triarylboryl acceptor by an ethenylene linker at the 3,8,13- or 2,7,12-position, the resultant 3-BET and 2-BET show two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections of δ = 2100 and 2500 GM (at 810 nm by femtosecond pulses in THF), respectively. The TPA enhancement of the 2,7,12-isomers is also found when comparing 3-BYT and 2-BYT (δ = 870 and 1900 GM) and 3-NET and 2-NET (36 and 400 GM).

Abstract
The present review deals with the preparation and the properties of star-shaped conjugated compounds. Three, four or six conjugated arms are attached to cross-conjugated cores, which consist of single atoms (B, C+, N), benzene or azine rings or polycyclic ring systems, as for example triphenylene or tristriazolotriazine. Many of these shape-persistent [n]star compounds tend to π-stacking and self-organization, and exhibit interesting properties in materials science: Linear and non-linear optics, electrical conductivity, electroluminescence, formation of liquid crystalline phases, etc.

Abstract
A new series of C(3)-symmetrical N-(hetero)arylmethyl triindoles has been synthesized in a straightforward procedure. The structure and conformation in the solid state have been determined for three derivatives (3, 4, and 6) by X-ray crystallographic analysis. In all three cases, the molecules adopt a tripodal conformation with all of the flexible arms directed towards the same side, thereby delimiting an inner cavity. Compound 6 crystallizes and forms C(3)-symmetric dimeric cagelike complexes. Guest molecules of chloroform and water are confined within the resulting cavities with stabilization by different intermolecular interactions; this highlights the potential of these compounds in the construction of supramolecular systems. A computational analysis has been performed to predict the most stable conformers. As a general trend, a preference for a conformation with all branches directed to the same side has been predicted. Comparison between theoretical and experimental results indicates that the computational level selected for the present study, B3LYP/6-31G*, is able to reproduce both the minimum energy conformations and the rotation barriers about the N--CH(2) bond.
