Abstract
A photoredox approach enabling one-step synthesis of oxazetidines with a free -NH group via the combined use of alkyne, thiophenol, and azide has been reported. The synthesized oxazetidine with the free -NH group was stable enough for various late-stage transformations such as methylation, acetylation, tosylation, and ring-opening reaction to afford synthetically useful α-aminoketones.

Abstract
Minisci-type reaction is one of the important means to construct C(sp3)-H functionalization of heteroarenes. According to traditional methods, stoichiometric amounts of precious transition metal catalysts and chemical oxidants were required at high temperatures. Here, a green and gentle novel Minisci-type method was developed via visible-light-induced cross-dehydrogenative coupling of heteroarenes with aliphatic C(sp3)-H bonds under oxidant-free and transition-metal-catalyst-free conditions. Only the catalytic equivalent of CF3SO2Na and room temperature were required to maintain an efficient reaction.

Abstract
The selective isomerization of strained heterocyclic compounds is an important tool in organic synthesis. An unprecedented regioselective isomerization of 2,2-disubstituted oxetanes into homoallylic alcohols is described. The use of tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (B(C6 F5 )3 ), a commercially available Lewis acid was key to obtaining good yields and selectivities since other Lewis acids afforded mixtures of isomers and substantial polymerization. The reaction took place under exceptionally mild reaction conditions and very low catalyst loading (0.5 mol %). DFT calculations disclose the mechanistic features of the isomerization and account for the high selectivity displayed by the B(C6 F5 )3 catalyst. The synthetic applicability of the new reaction is demonstrated by the preparation of γ-chiral alcohols using iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation.

Abstract
Synthesis of 3'-halogeno analogues (5a-d) of 9-[c-4,t-5-bis(hydroxymethyl)-cyclopent-2-en-r-1-yl]-9H-adenine (BCA, 3) was accomplished by means of dual utilization of the vinyl sulfone functional moieties in both 10 and 16 utilizing a SN2' conjugate-addition reaction and a sulfur-extrusive stannylation, respectively. Evaluation of the antiviral activities of 5a-d revealed that introduction of a halogeno-substituent into the 3'-position of (-)-BCA diminished its anti-HIV-1 activity but increased the inhibitory activity for the reverse transcriptase of HBV in that the 3'-fluorinated BCA 5d exhibited the highest activity without significant cytotoxicity.

Abstract
Di-, tri- and tetra-substituted oxetane derivatives with combinations of ester, amide, nitrile, aryl, sulfone and phosphonate substituents are prepared as fragments or building blocks for drug discovery. The synthesis of these novel oxetane functional groups, in new chemical space, is achieved via rhodium-catalysed O-H insertion and C-C bond forming cyclisation.

Abstract
AbstractA mild and sustainable synthesis of 2,2-disubstituted oxetanes has been achieved through the use of a flow microreactor system. By controlling the residence time a highly unstable intermediate such as 2-phenyloxetan-2-yl lithium can be generated and trapped with various electrophiles affording in moderate to good yields 2-substituted-2-phenyloxetanes at higher temperatures with respect to macrobatch-mode where –78 °C is required.

Abstract
The direct α-arylation of cyclic and acyclic ethers with heteroarenes has been accomplished through the design of a photoredox-mediated CH functionalization pathway. Transiently generated α-oxyalkyl radicals, produced from a variety of widely available ethers through hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), were coupled with a range of electron-deficient heteroarenes in a Minisci-type mechanism. This mild, visible-light-driven protocol allows direct access to medicinal pharmacophores of broad utility using feedstock substrates and a commercial photocatalyst.

Abstract
Oxetanes offer exciting potential as structural motifs and intermediates in drug discovery and materials science. Here an efficient strategy for the synthesis of oxetane rings incorporating pendant functional groups is described. A wide variety of oxetane 2,2-dicarboxylates were accessed in high yields, including functionalized 3-/4-aryl- and alkyl-substituted oxetanes and fused oxetane bicycles. Enantioenriched alcohols provided enantioenriched oxetanes with complete retention of configuration. The oxetane products were further derivatized, while the ring was maintained intact, thus highlighting their potential as building blocks for medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
An efficient functionalization of diaryltetrahydrofurans via a regioselective THF-directed ortho-lithiation is first described. This reaction can be successfully carried out in cyclopentyl methyl ether as a "greener" alternative to Et2O, with better results in terms of yield and selectivity and, surprisingly, also in protic eutectic mixtures competitively with protonolysis.

Abstract
The preparation of palladium thioketone and T-shaped carbene complexes by treatment of thiophosphoryl substituted Li/Cl carbenoids with a Pd(0) precursor is reported. Depending on the steric demand, the anion-stabilizing ability of the silyl moiety (by negative hyperconjugation effects) and the remaining negative charge at the carbenic carbon atom, isolation of a three-coordinate, T-shaped palladium carbene complex is possible. In contrast, insufficient charge stabilization results in the transfer of the sulfur of the thiophosphoryl moiety and thus in the formation of a thioketone complex. While the thioketones are stable compounds the carbene complexes are revealed to be highly reactive and decompose under elimination of Pd metal. Computational studies revealed that both complexes are formed by a substitution mechanism. While the ketone turned out to be the thermodynamically favored product, the carbene is kinetically favored and thus preferentially formed at low reaction temperatures.

Abstract
2-Sulfonyl-oxetanes have been prepared, affording non-planar structures with desirable physicochemical properties for fragment based drug discovery. The oxetane motif was formed by an intramolecular C-C bond formation. The fragments were further functionalised via organometallic intermediates at the intact oxetane and aromatic rings.
