Abstract
A photoredox-catalyzed intermolecular tandem sulfonamination/cyclization of enaminones was realized by using N-aminopyridinium salts as the sulfonaminated reagents without transition-metal catalysts or bases. The reaction exhibits a broad scope and good functional group tolerance, good yields, and regioselectivity. Preliminary mechanistic studies support the radical property of the reaction and the involvement of N-centered radical intermediates.

Abstract
We report visible light-induced cross-dehydrocoupling of 3-cyanocoumarins with unactivated aliphatic aldehydes for the direct synthesis of 4-acylated coumarins. Inexpensive and readily available (n-Bu)4NBr was used as a precursor of the hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) catalyst and [Ir(ppy)2(dtbbpy)PF6] as a photocatalyst. A variety of aldehydes including linear, branched, cyclic, and α,β-unsaturated aliphatic aldehydes were suitable for this reaction yielding the desired acylated coumarin derivatives in 41-98% yields. This method provides a mild, atom-economical, and environmentally friendly synthetic route for the direct acylation of 3-cyanocoumarins. This is the first example so far of C-4 aliphatic acylation of coumarins.

Abstract
A robust metal- and solvent-free cascade radical-induced C-N cleavage/intramolecular 6-endo-dig annulation/hydrocarbonylation for the synthesis of the valuable 2-aryl-4H-chromen-4-ones is described. This practical synthesis strategy utilizes propargylamines and air as the oxygen source and green carbonylation reagent, in which propargylamines are activated by the inexpensive and available dimethyl 2,2′-azobis(2-methylpropionate) (AIBME) and (PhSe)2 as the radical initiators. This simple and green protocol features wide substrate adaptability, good functional group tolerance, and amenability to scaling up and derivatizations.

Abstract
For several decades, coumarins have attracted considerable attention due to the fact of their application in diverse fields such as medical science and biomedical research as well as several industrial branches. Recently, many compounds containing the coumarin moiety have been intensively studied, mainly due to the fact of their biological activities such as antitumor, antioxidative, anti-HIV, vasorelaxant, antimicrobial, and anticancer. They are also widely used as fluorescent dyes and probes because of their great structural flexibility and large fluorescent quantum yields. For this reason, numerous attempts have been made to develop new and more practical methods for the synthesis of these compounds. This review aims at providing a comprehensive overview of coumarin synthesis methods by direct C–H bond activation in order to demonstrate the current state-of-the-art methods as well as the current limitations.

Abstract
A concise and efficient cross-coupling synthetic strategy has been developed to construct 2-aryl-4H-thiochromen-4-one derivatives from 2-sulfinyl-thiochromones and arylboronic acids. This reaction proceeds via a catalyst system of Lewis acid and palladium(II) combined with XPhos as an optimal ligand in moderate to good yields. Besides, this flexible methodology provides a wide scope for the synthesis of different functionally substituted thiochromone scaffolds and can be further exploited to construct diverse thioflavone libraries for pharmaceutical research.

Abstract
The direct C-H functionalization of ethyl acetates was developed, delivering a variety of 1-(4-oxochroman-2-yl)ethyl acetate derivatives by reacting with chromones. This reaction has a wide substrate scope with excellent site-selective C-H activation at the inactive α-hydrogen of the alkoxyl group instead of the α-hydrogen of the carbonyl group under radical conditions. Compared with other protocols for the α-alkoxyl C-H functionalization of alkyl esters, a distinguishing feature of this reaction is that no metal catalyst was required, with DTBP as the sole oxidant.

Abstract
The ruthenium-catalyzed activation of the C4 position of coumarins for coupling with acrylates was described using modifiable ketone as a directing group. The alkenylation reaction provided a direct approach to prepare previously inaccessible 4-alkenylated coumarins with operational simplicity and high atom-economy. This protocol also worked well with coumarin-3-carboxylic acids to unveil a rare instance of a tandem alkenylation/decarboxylation reaction. The potential value of this approach was further highlighted by the efficient synthesis of several heterocyclic fused coumarin derivatives.

Abstract
Privileged scaffolds are ubiquitous as effective templates in drug discovery regime.
Natural and synthetically derived hybrid molecules are one such attractive scaffold
for therapeutic agent development due to their dual or multiple modes of action, minimum
or no side effects, favourable pharmacokinetics and other advantages. Coumarins and
chalcone are two important classes of natural products affording diverse pharmacological
activities which make them ideal templates for building coumarin-chalcone hybrids as effective
biological scaffold for drug discovery research. Provoked by the promising medicinal
application of hybrid molecules as well as those of coumarins and chalcones, the
medicinal chemists have used molecular hybridisation strategy to report dozens of coumarin-
chalcone hybrids with a wide spectrum of biological properties including anticancer,
antimicrobial, antimalarial, antioxidant, anti-tubercular and so on. The present review provides a systematic
summary on synthetic strategies, biological or chemical potential, SAR studies, some mechanisms of action
and some plausible molecular targets of synthetic coumarin-chalcone hybrids published from 2001 till
date. The review is expected to assist medicinal chemists in the effective and successful development of coumarin-
chalcone hybrid based drug discovery regime.

Abstract
A general method to synthesize substituted butenolides from hydroxymethylcyclopropenones is reported. Functionalized cyclopropenones undergo ring-opening reactions with catalytic amounts of phosphine, forming reactive ketene ylides. These intermediates can be trapped by pendant hydroxy groups to afford target butenolide scaffolds. The reaction proceeds efficiently in diverse solvents and with low catalyst loadings. Importantly, the cyclization is tolerant of a broad range of functional groups, yielding a variety of α- and γ-substituted butenolides.

Abstract
A practical and efficient method for selective intramolecular radical trifluoromethylacylation and -arylation of alkenes with inexpensive CF3SO2Na and K2S2O8 in aqueous media has been developed, respectively, affording the highly chemoselective synthesis of CF3-functionalized chroman-4-ones and chromanes in satisfactory yields. Control experiments and DFT calculations indicate that the CF3SO2Na/K2S2O8 system is capable of trifluoromethylating the substrate of alkenes without a transition metal catalyst and the oxidation of CF3SO2Na to ·CF3 by K2S2O8 is involved in the rate-determining step.

Abstract
4-Arylcoumarins (4-aryl-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one), also known as neoflavones, comprise a minor subclass of naturally occurring flavonoids. Because of their broad-spectrum biological activities, arylcoumarins have been attracting the attention of the organic and medicinal chemistry communities, and are considered as an important privileged scaffold. Since the development of Pechmann condensation, a classical acid-catalyzed condensation between phenol and β-keto-carboxylic acid, several versatile and efficient synthetic approaches for 4-arylcoumarins have been reported. This review summarizes recent advances in the synthesis of the 4-arylcoumarin scaffold by classifying them based on the final bond-formation type. In particular, synthetic methods executed under mild and highly efficient conditions, such as solvent-free reactions and transition metal catalysis, are highlighted.

Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease is debilitating neurodegenerative disorder in the elderly. Current therapy relies on administration of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs) -donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, and N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor antagonist memantine. However, their therapeutic effect is only short-term and stabilizes cognitive functions for up to 2 years. Given this drawback together with other pathological hallmarks of the disease taken into consideration, novel approaches have recently emerged to better cope with AD onset or its progression. One such strategy implies broadening the biological profile of AChEIs into so-called multi-target directed ligands (MTDLs). In this review article, we made comprehensive literature survey emphasising on donepezil template which was structurally converted into plethora of MTLDs preserving anti-cholinesterase effect and, at the same time, escalating the anti-oxidant potential, which was reported as a crucial role in the pathogenesis of the Alzheimer’s disease.

Abstract
A highly regioselective and transition-metal free one-pot arylation of chromenones with arylboronic acids has been achieved employing K2S2O8. The procedure consists of a sequence of some reactions including an arylation/decarboxylation cascade and proceeds well in aqueous media to afford biologically interesting flavones and 3-arylcoumarins. This method exhibited excellent selectivity and functional group tolerance under mild conditions. The reaction also showed perfect efficacy for the preparation of styryl coumarins.
