Abstract
Nuclear power will continue to provide energy for the foreseeable future, but it can pose significant challenges in terms of the disposal of waste and potential release of untreated radioactive substances. Iodine is a volatile product from uranium fission and is particularly problematic due to its solubility. Different isotopes of iodine present different issues for people and the environment. 129I has an extremely long half-life of 1.57 × 107 years and poses a long-term environmental risk due to bioaccumulation. In contrast, 131I has a shorter half-life of 8.02 days and poses a significant risk to human health. There is, therefore, an urgent need to develop secure, efficient and economic stores to capture and sequester ionic and neutral iodine residues. Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials are a new generation of solid sorbents that have wide potential applicability for gas adsorption and substrate binding, and recently there is emerging research on their use for the selective adsorptive removal of iodine. Herein, we review the state-of-the-art performance of MOFs for iodine adsorption and their host-guest chemistry. Various aspects are discussed, including establishing structure-property relationships between the functionality of the MOF host and iodine binding. The techniques and methodologies used for the characterisation of iodine adsorption and of iodine-loaded MOFs are also discussed together with strategies for designing new MOFs that show improved performance for iodine adsorption.

Abstract
This article aims to provide an overview of the studies focused on using coordination compounds as antiviral agents against different types of viruses. We present various strategies so far used to this end. This article is divided into two sections. The first collects the series of designed antiviral drugs based on coordination compounds. This approach has been developed for many years, starting from the 70s with the discovery of cis-platin (cis-DDP). It has been mainly focused on studying the synergistic effect of a wide variety of new compounds obtained by combining metal ions with organic antiviral ligands. Then, we collect various strategies analyzing the coordination compounds interacting with viruses using different processes such as wrapping viruses, rapid detection of RNA or DNA virus, or nanocarriers. These recent and novel insights help to study viruses from other points of view, allowing to measure their physical and chemical properties. We also highlight a section in which the issue of viruses from a disinfection viewpoint is addressed, using coordination compounds as a tool able to control the release of antiviral and biocide agents. This is an emerging and promising field but this approach is actually little developed. We finally provide a section with a general conclusion and perspectives.

CuII Complexes and Coordination Polymers with Pyridine or Pyrazine Amides and Amino Benzamides—Structures and EPR Patterns. INORGANICS 2020. Abstract
Isonicotine amide, picoline amide, pyrazine 2-amide, 2- and 4-amino benzamides and various CuII salts were used to target CuII complexes of these ligands alongside with 1D and 2D coordination polymers. Under the criterion of obtaining crystalline and single phased materials a number of new compounds were reliably reproduced. Remarkably, for some of these compounds the ideal Cu:ligand ratio of the starting materials turned out to be very different from Cu:ligand ratio in the products. Crystal and molecular structures from single-crystal XRD were obtained for all new compounds; phase purity was checked using powder XRD. We observed exclusively the Oamide and not the NH2amide function binding to CuII. In most of the cases; this occurred in chelates with the second pyridine, pyrazine or aminophenyl N function. µ-O,N ditopic bridging was frequently observed for the N = pyridine, pyrazine or aminophenyl functions, but not exclusively. The geometry around CuII in these compounds was very often axially elongated octahedral or square pyramidal. X-band EPR spectra of powder samples revealed various spectral symmetry patterns ranging from axial over rhombic to inverse axial. Although the EPR spectra cannot be unequivocally correlated to the observed geometry of CuII in the solid state structures, the EPR patterns can help to support assumed structures as shown for the compound [Cu(Ina)2Br2] (Ina = isonicotine amide). As UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and magnetic measurement in the solid can also be roughly correlated to the surrounding of CuII, we suggest the combination of EPR, UV-vis spectroscopy and magnetic measurements to elucidate possible structures of CuII compounds with such ligands.

Abstract
The reaction of chiral sodium complexes, 1∞ [Na(S-valmetH)]⋅H2 O (1-S) and 1∞ [Na(R-valmetH)]⋅H2 O (1-R), with copper(II) acetate affords chiral one-dimensional coordination polymers with the formulas 1∞ [Cu(S-valmet)(H2 O)]⋅H2 O (2-S) and 1∞ [Cu(R-valmet)(H2 O)]⋅H2 O (2-R) (R/S-valmetH2 are Schiff base proligands resulting from the condensation reactions between o-vanillin and R/S-methionine). The copper ions are connected by the carboxylato groups belonging to the amino-acid moieties, resulting in infinite chains showing syn-anti out-of-plane bridging mode. The circular dichroism spectra of 1-S, 1-R, 2-S, and 2-R confirm their enantiomeric nature. Compounds 2-S and 2-R undergo a two-step single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation, with the elimination of the lattice and coordinated water molecules: 1∞ [Cu(S-valmet)(H2 O)]⋅H2 O (2-S)→1∞ [Cu(S-valmet)]⋅H2 O (3-S⋅H2 O)→1∞ [Cu(S-valmet)] (3-S) and 1∞ [Cu(R-valmet)(H2 O)]⋅H2 O (2-R)→1∞ [Cu(R-valmet)]⋅H2 O (3-R⋅H2 O)→1∞ [Cu(R-valmet)] (3-R), respectively. During these transformations, every pair of face-to-face chains present in 2-S (or 2-R) has been "zipped up" into a chiral double chain through the removal of the aqua ligands and their replacement by the carboxylato oxygen atoms from the neighboring chain. Consequently, each carboxylato group now bridges three copper ions. The conversion of the single chains, 2-S and 2-R, into the double chains, 3-S and 3-R, is accompanied by a change of the strength of the exchange interactions between the copper ions: weak antiferromagnetic couplings are observed in compound 2-S (J/kB =-1.23(5) K, H=-2J ΣSi Si+1 ) and relatively strong in compound 3-S (J/kB =-76.0(8) K). When the racemic mixture of the ligands, R,S-valmetH2 , is employed, in the same experimental conditions, a racemic mixture of mononuclear compounds, [Cu(R,S-valmet)(H2 O)2 ]⋅H2 O (4-RS), is obtained. Compound 4-RS also undergoes a SCSC transformation with the elimination of the lattice and one of the coordinated water molecules, resulting in a racemic mixture of chiral chains, 1∞ [Cu(R-valmet)(H2 O)]⋅1∞ [Cu(S-valmet)(H2 O)] (5-RS). In this compound, the coupling of the copper(II) ions within the chains is weak and ferromagnetic (J/kB =+0.10(2) K). These results prove that the chirality of the valmetH2 ligands (optically pure or racemic mixture) plays a key role in the self-assembly process of the copper(II) complexes.
