Abstract
![]()
Three copper(II)/mesoxalate-based MOFs with formulas
(H3O)[Cu9(Hmesox)6(H2O)6Cl]·8H2O (1), (NH2Me2)0.4(H3O)0.6[Cu9(Hmesox)6(H2O)6Cl]·8H2O (2), and (enH2)0.25(enH)1.5[Cu6(Hmesox)3(mesox)(H2O)6Cl0.5]Cl0.5·5.25H2O (3) were synthesized (H4mesox = mesoxalic
acid = 2,2-dihydroxypropanedioic acid, en = ethylenediamine). Essentially,
all of the compounds display the same anionic network with a different
arrangement of the cations, which have a remarkable effect on the
proton conduction of the materials, ranging from 1.16 × 10–4 S cm–1 for 1 to 1.87
× 10–3 S cm–1 for 3 (at 80 °C and 95% RH). These compounds also display antiferromagnetic
coupling among the copper(II) ions through both the carboxylate and
alkoxido bridges. The values of the principal magnetic coupling constants
were calculated by density functional theory (DFT), leading to congruent
values that confirm the predominant antiferromagnetic nature of the
interactions. Three copper(II)-mesoxalate
metal−organic frameworks
were synthesized in the presence of three different cations: hydronium,
dimethylammonium, and ethylenediammonium, which neutralize the charge
of the anionic networks. Besides the crystallographic characterization
and the investigation of the magnetic properties, the compounds show
varying proton conductivities depending on the included cations. The
proton conductivity increases 1 order of magnitude in the case of
compound 3 (1.87 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 80 °C and 95% RH), which contains ethylenediammonium
cations.

Abstract
In this study, three new 3D coordination polymers (CPs), {[Cd3(L)(H2O)6]·H2O}n (1), {[Cu1.5(L)0.5(bimb)1.5]·5H2O·DMF}n (2), and {[Mn1.5(H3L)(bibp)0.5(H2O)2]·3H2O}n (3) (bimb= 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-yl)benzene, bibp= 1,4-bis((4-imidazol-1-yl)benzyl)piperazine), were prepared under solvothermal or hydrothermal conditions based on a hexadentate ligand (1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine hexa-acetic acid (H6L)). Structural elucidations were carried out by IR spectra along with single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, while thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) (dynamic and isothermal) and XRD techniques were used for property evaluations of the polymers. Furthermore, the fluorescence properties and detection of the Fe3+ ions in 1 were tested at room temperature, and the electrochemical behavior of 2 is also stated in this article.

Abstract
We present the synthesis, structural characterization, and magnetic properties of two high-nuclearity cobalt clusters formulated as [Co13(μ3-OH)3(μ3-Cl)(dpbt)5(ptd)Cl10][Co(H2O)2Cl2]·(CH3)2CHOH (1) and [Co24(μ3-OH)6(μ3-Cl)2(dpbt)10(ptd)2Cl16]·2CH3CH2OH (2), respectively (H2dpbt = 5,5'-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-3,3'-bis(1,2,4-triazole) and H2ptd = 3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine-5,6-diol). Compound 1 is composed of an inner [Co4(μ3-OH)3(μ3-Cl)] cubane and an outer [Co9(dpbt)5(ptd)Cl10] defective adamantane. Compound 2 reveals a giant {Co24} cluster possessing a dual-[Co12] skeleton from 1. The hierarchical assembly from 1 to 2 has been established and tracked through high-resolution electrospray ionization (HRESI-MS) analyses from the solvothermal reaction mother solution. Magnetic studies of 1 and 2 revealed the highly correlated spins, a glasslike magnetic phase transition at ca. 8 K, and slow relaxation behavior of SMM nature in the lower-temperature region (below 4 K).

Abstract
Hydrothermal reactions of metal nitrates and ligand bis(5-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methane (H2 L1 ) gave three cluster compounds, {Cr2 }, {Zn12 } and {Fe8 }. Notably, methylene group of H2 L1 was in situ oxidized either to hydroxymethylated (L2 -O)3- in the metallo-ring {Zn12 } or to a rigid carbonylated (L3 =O)2- in the screw-type {Fe8 }. In light of comparative experimental results, NO3- was deduced to be of a catalytic role in the ligand oxidation. Metal ion could be regarded as an "induced" tool for clusters generation in self-assembly process.

Abstract
Hydrothermal reaction of the multidentate organic ligand (H6TTHA) with indium chloride (InCl3) produced a highly stable 3D luminescent indium-organic framework [In2(OH)2(H2TTHA)(H2O)2]n (1). Complex 1 exhibits remarkable luminescent properties, especially the multifunction sensitivity and selectivity for detecting Ru3+, UO22+; as well as small biomolecules thiamines (TPP, TMP, and TCl) based on a "turn-off" manner. In particular, the pyrophosphate groups of TPP and the phosphate groups of TMP could further affect the quenching rate, leading to different luminescent responds. In addition, we also discussed and proved the luminescence quenching mechanism in detail through comparative test and PXRD characterization. Therefore, complex 1 could be used as a kind of excellent luminescence sensor to detect Ru3+, UO22+, and thiamines (TPP, TMP, and TCl).

Abstract
A facile post-synthetic modification of a tetracationic tetraimidazolium macrocycle, 14+ (i.e., the "Texas-sized" molecular box (cyclo[2](2,6-di(1H-imidazol-1-yl)pyridine)[2](1,4-dimethylenebenzene)), is described. Under mild basic conditions, ring-opening of the imidazolium moieties occurs. This results in two new isomeric dicationic macrocycles. This simple yet efficient modification serves to alter the size of the molecular cavity, the charge of the macromolecular receptor, and the manner whereby it interacts with dianionic guest molecules. The isomeric mixture of imidazolium ring opened macrocycles can be synthesized in relatively high overall yield (86-93%). The reaction shows regioselectivity and the ratio of major to minor (i.e., trans : cis ring-opened products) was determined to be ca. 3 : 1 via1H NMR spectroscopy. The major isomer, trans-cyclo[2]((Z)-N-(2-((6-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)pyridin-2-yl)amino)vinyl)formamide)[2](1,4-bismethylbenzene) hexafluorophosphate (22+·2PF6-), was isolated in its pure form in 42% yield via recrystallization. The molecular recognition properties of 22+ were investigated using a series of dianionic guests (i.e., 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate (4), 2,6-naphthalenedisulfonate (5), and 1,5-naphthalenedisulfonate (6)) whose binding interactions with 14+ have been previously reported. This allowed us to evaluate how imidazolium ring-opening affects the inherent host/guest interactions of 14+. On the basis of solution spectroscopic studies (e.g., 1H NMR, 1H-1H COSY NMR, DOSY NMR, and NOESY NMR), in tandem with mass spectrometric analyses (ESI-MS) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, we conclude that opening up the macrocyclic structure (i.e., converting 14+ to 22+) leads to considerable changes in the recognition behavior, with so-called outside binding or weak ion pair interactions, rather than pseudorotaxane formation, being favored both in solution and the solid-state. We postulate that methodologies such as those described herein could provide a means to control the molecular interactions of both free-standing macrocycles and those used to construct mechanically-interlocked molecules. Indeed, the application of hydroxide anion under the present conditions not only serves to effect the ring-opening of 14+, but also pseudorotaxane structures, such as, e.g., [14+·4] or [14+·5] derived there from.

Abstract
Two new metal-organic frameworks (1-2) were ionothermally obtained by the reaction of a biphenyltetracarboxylic sodium (Na4BPTC) ligand and M(OOCCH3)2 (M = Co(1) and Mn(2)). Crystal structure analysis reveals that 1 is a Co3Na6 unit-based three dimensional heterometallic MOF, while 2 exhibits a {Mn(COO)n} chain-based three-dimensional framework. Furthermore, the magnetic measurement shows that both of them have anti-ferromagnetic properties. A combination of Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulation uncovers that in 2 the coupling parameters between two adjacent Mn(II) ions are J1 = -2.0 cm(-1) and J2 = -1.6 cm(-1), and the magnetism mainly originates from the propagation of Mn(II) ions by the super-exchange of carboxylates. Interestingly, the superexchange modes of J1 and J2 are different. Two spin nets of -/+/- dominate in the coupling for J1, while for J2 there are two spin nets of -/+/- and one spin net of +/-/+.

Abstract
Two copper complexes, Cu(SCN)(Mpz(∗)T-(EtO)2) (1) (Mpz(∗)T-(EtO)2=L3) and CuCl(H2O)(Mpz(∗)T-O2) (2) (Mpz(∗)T-O2=L4) were synthesized by the reaction of 2,4,6-tri(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazine (L1) or 2,4,6-tri(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazine (L2) with CuCl2·2H2O in anhydrous ethanol and methanol, respectively. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, single crystal X-ray diffraction and X-ray powder diffraction. The structural characterizations and quantum mechanical calculations of the two complexes were analyzed in detail. It was found that an in site reaction occurred during the synthesis process of complexes 1 and 2, likely due to catalytic property of copper ions which leads to the C-N bond cleavage to generate new organic species, namely, Mpz(∗)T-(EtO)2 (L3) and Mpz(∗)T-O2 (L4).
