Roles of Organic Fragments in Redirecting Crystal/Molecular Structures of Inorganic-Organic Hybrids Based on Lacunary Keggin-Type Polyoxometalates. Molecules 2021; 26:molecules26195994. Abstract
Lacunary polyoxometalates (LPOMs) are key precursors for the synthesis of functional POMs. To date, reviews dedicated to behavioral studies of LPOMs often comprise the role of metal ions, including transition metal (TM) and rare earth (RE) ions, in extending and stability of high-nuclearity clusters. In contrast, the role of organic ligands in the structures and properties of lacunary-based hybrids has remained less explored. In this review, we focus on the role of organic fragments in the self-assembling process of POM-based architectures and discuss relationships between the nature and structure of organic ligand and properties such as the topology of hybrid inorganic–organic material in RE and TM-RE heterometallic derivatives of lacunary Keggin-type POMs. The effects of organic fragment in mixed ligand hybrids are also briefly reviewed.

Abstract
We report on the synthesis and structural characterization of two series of lanthanide-containing 22-tungsto-2-germanates. The first series corresponds to a family of polyanions with the formula [Ln(β2-GeW11O39)2]13- (LnIII = La (1), Ce (2), Pr (3), Nd (4), Sm (5), Gd (6), Dy (7)), and the second series corresponds to a family with the formula [Ln(β2-GeW11O39)(α-GeW11O39)]13- (LnIII = Ho (8), Er (9), Tm (10)). All compounds were characterized in the solid state by single-crystal and powder XRD, IR, TGA, and SQUID magnetometry. The polyanions were synthesized in aqueous medium by direct reaction of the monolacunary [β2-GeW11O39]8- POM precursor with the corresponding lanthanide salts. The structure of the polyanions consists of an 8-coordinated lanthanide ion in a square-antiprismatic geometry, which is sandwiched either between two [β2-GeW11O39]8- units for 1-7 or between a [β2-GeW11O39]8- and a [α-GeW11O39]8- unit for 8-10. Furthermore, the effect of the central paramagnetic lanthanide ion on the magnetic behavior of the polyanions was investigated, with the erbium-derivative [Er(β2-GeW11O39)(α-GeW11O39)]13- (9) showing single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior.

Abstract
The electrocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction reaction (CO2RR) involves a variety of electron transfer pathways, resulting in poor reaction selectivity, limiting its use to meet future energy requirements. Polyoxometalates (POMs) can both store and release multiple electrons in the electrochemical process, and this is expected to be an ideal "electron switch" to match with catalytically active species, realize electron transfer modulation and promote the activity and selectivity of the electrocatalytic CO2RR. Herein, we report a series of new POM-based manganese-carbonyl (MnL) composite CO2 reduction electrocatalysts, whereby SiW12-MnL exhibits the most remarkable activity and selectivity for CO2RR to CO, resulting in an increase in the faradaic efficiency (FE) from 65% (MnL) to a record-value of 95% in aqueous electrolyte. A series of control electrochemical experiments, photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), transient photovoltage (TPV) experiments, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that POMs act as electronic regulators to control the electron transfer process from POM to MnL units during the electrochemical reaction, enhancing the selectivity of the CO2RR to CO and depressing the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This work demonstrates the significance of electron transfer modulation in the CO2RR and suggests a new idea for the design of efficient electrocatalysts towards CO2RR.

Abstract
Two monomeric non-classical tellurium-containing heteropolymolybdate-supported metal carbonyl derivatives (NH4)5H3{[Te2Mo12(OH)O44][Mn(CO)3]}·18H2O (1) and (NH4)8{[Te2Mo12(OH)O44][Re(CO)3]}·13H2O (2) have been successfully isolated in good yields. Compounds 1 and 2 are the first two examples of metal carbonyl derivatives of heteromolybdate with tellurium as the central atom. These two compounds have been thoroughly characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The electrochemical catalytic activities of 1 and 2 including cyclic voltammetry and catalytic oxidation of nitrite have also been investigated.

Abstract
A monomeric trinickel(ii)-substituted phosphotungstate [H9P2W15O62Ni3]9− ion is stabilized by grafting three {Re(CO)3} organometallic groups on the surface of a trinickel cluster for the first time. The resulting polyanions [P2W15O56Ni3(H2O)3(μ3-OH)3(Re(CO)3)3]6− stacked along the a-axis to form a wavy line.

Abstract
Two novel heteropolyoxomolybdate [XMo8O31]n− (X = Ge(1) or P(2)) manganese carbonyl derivatives [(CH3)4N]6H6{MnII(GeMo8O31)[MnI(CO)3]2}2·12H2O (1) and [(CH3)4N]4H6{MnII(PMo8O31)[MnI(CO)3]2}2·14H2O (2), have been successfully synthesized and characterized in the solid state by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR and thermogravimetric analysis, and in solution by UV-Vis spectroscopy and electrochemistry. The two polyoxomolybdate-based organometallic compounds 1 and 2 represent rare examples of transition metal sandwich-based polyoxometalate metal carbonyl derivatives (PMCDs), in which the organic-inorganic hybrids are composed of four Mn(CO)3+ groups symmetrically occupied the tetravacant sites of dimeric heteropolyoxomolybdate {Mn2(XMo8O31)2}n− through MnI-O-Mo bonds. The carbonyl functionalized Mn atoms are octahedrally coordinated via three μ2-oxygens of the [XMo8O31]n− unit and three carbonyl carbon atoms. Interestingly, 1 and 2 form a psedocuboidal ring Mn(CO)3Mo3O12 with {Mn(CO)3}+ occupying the three fold axis of the Mo3O12 octahedral triad. Beside this, the two centrally placed adjacent MnII atoms show intramolecular Mn∙∙∙Mn interactions of 3.11 and 3.16 Å in 1 and 2, respectively. Significant n→π* and O···O intermolecular interactions between the orthogonally aligned adjacent carbonyl groups through the overlap of lone-pair electrons on oxygen atoms with the antibonding orbital (π*) of the adjacent carbony carbon atom of the subsequent units in 1 and 2 were observed. The electrochemical properties of the two compounds were also been investigated.

Abstract
Capturing [M(CO)3]+ (M = Re, Mn) by [α-PW11O39]7− or [α2-P2W17O61]10− leads to polyoxometalate-supported metal carbonyl complexes with chiral “twisted-sandwich” structures.
