Abstract
Lacunary polyoxometalates (LPOMs) are key precursors for the synthesis of functional POMs. To date, reviews dedicated to behavioral studies of LPOMs often comprise the role of metal ions, including transition metal (TM) and rare earth (RE) ions, in extending and stability of high-nuclearity clusters. In contrast, the role of organic ligands in the structures and properties of lacunary-based hybrids has remained less explored. In this review, we focus on the role of organic fragments in the self-assembling process of POM-based architectures and discuss relationships between the nature and structure of organic ligand and properties such as the topology of hybrid inorganic–organic material in RE and TM-RE heterometallic derivatives of lacunary Keggin-type POMs. The effects of organic fragment in mixed ligand hybrids are also briefly reviewed.

Abstract
Two monolanthanide-containing polyanions based on monolacunary Keggin germanotungstates [Ln(H2O) n GeW11O39]5- (Ln = Dy, Er, n = 4,3) have been synthesized in simple one-pot synthetic procedure and compositionally characterized in solid state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and elemental analysis. Electronic absorption and emission spectra of the title compounds in solution were also studied. The [DyIII(H2O)4GeW11O39]5- Keggin POM exhibits a slow relaxation of magnetization. The cyclic voltammetry measurements and mass spectrometry were carried out to check the stability of the compounds in solution. Both polyanions prove efficient in the electrocatalytic reduction of nitrite. To our knowledge, this observation establishes the first example of electrocatalysis of nitrite reduction by all inorganic monolanthanide-containing germanotungstates family.

Abstract
Two unprecedented organic-inorganic hybrid 1-D double chain germanomolybdates containing hepta-nuclear Cu-RE-pic heterometallic clusters [NH4]2[RE(H2O)5]2[Cu(pic)2]2[Cu(pic)2(H2O)2]3[α-GeMo12O40]2·22H2O [RE = La3+ (1), Ce3+ (2), and Hpic = 2-picolinic acid] were successfully obtained by the stepwise self-assembly strategy via the conventional solution method. The most striking structural feature of 1 and 2 is that the two plenary Keggin [α-GeMo12O40]4- polyoxoanions are joined by an organic-inorganic hybrid hepta-nuclear Cu-RE-pic {[RE(H2O)5]2[Cu(pic)2(H2O)2]3[Cu(pic)2]2}6+ heterometallic moiety. What is more interesting is that their adjacent structural units are connected together by {Cu(pic)2} bridges, forming a 1-D extended double chain architecture. Furthermore, the adsorption capacity of 1 toward dyes in aqueous solutions was deeply investigated. It is fascinating that 1 shows a good adsorption capacity toward basic violet 3 (BV 3) in aqueous solutions and the adsorption kinetics conforms to the second-order kinetic model.

Abstract
A family of inorganic-organic hybrid one-dimensional (1-D) chain iron-lanthanide (Ln) heterometal encapsulated tungstotellurates [H2N(CH3)2]8K2Na4[Ln2(Ac)2(H2O)4Fe2(Hpdca)2(B-β-TeW9O33)2][Ln2(H2O)8Fe2(Hpdca)2(B-β-TeW9O33)2]·50H2O [Ln = Eu3+ (1), Tb3+ (2), Dy3+ (3), Er3+ (4), HAc = acetate acid, H2pdca = 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid] were prepared using a facile "one-pot" reaction. The molecular structures of 1-4 consist of an intriguing organic-ligand-connecting Fe-Ln heterometal inserted tetrameric unit [Ln2(Ac)2(H2O)4Fe2(Hpdca)2(B-β-TeW9O33)2][Ln2(H2O)8Fe2(Hpdca)2(B-β-TeW9O33)2]14-. Appealingly, the tetrameric unit is composed of two sandwich-type subunits [Ln2(Ac)2(H2O)4Fe2(Hpdca)2(B-β-TeW9O33)2]8- and [Ln2(H2O)8Fe2(Hpdca)2(B-β-TeW9O33)2]6-, in which each sandwich-type subunit can be regarded as a derivative of two Ln-organic complexes substituting two external FeIII ions in the classic Krebs-type [Fe4(H2O)10(β-TeW9O33)2]4- fragment. Furthermore, adjacent tetrameric units are interconnected into a 1-D chain arrangement by Hpdca- bridges. 1-4 represent the first examples of Fe-Ln heterometal encapsulated tungstotellurates. Comprehensive magnetic measurements of 3 imply the possible single-molecule magnet properties in 3 with an estimated relaxation time τ0 ≈ 6.06 × 10-6 s at Hdc = 0 Oe and τ0 ≈ 6.97 × 10-5 s at Hdc = 1500 Oe. In addition, the solid-state photoluminescence spectra of 1 and 2 at room temperature exhibit the typical f-f transitions of Ln cations. The Commission International d'Eclairage (CIE) color coordinates of (0.540 24, 0.442 44) for 1 and (0.428 71, 0.428 30) for 2 along with the correlated color temperatures of 1995 and 3278 K, dominant wavelengths of 586 and 578 nm, and color purities of 95.09% and 57.27% for 1 and 2 are obtained.

Abstract
By virtue of combining an in-situ assembly process with a stepwise synthesis in conventional aqueous solution, two series of unique organic-inorganic hybrid heteropolyoxomolybdates were constructed from plenary Keggin germanomolybdates and Cu-Ln heterometallic units and fully characterized: [H2 INA]2 H8 [LnCu(INA)4 (H2 O)6 ]2 [α-GeMo12 O40 ]3 ⋅52 H2 O (Ln=La3+ (1), Ce3+ (2), Pr3+ (3), Nd3+ (4), Sm3+ (5), Eu3+ (6); HINA=isonicotinic acid) and (NH4 )[Cu(PA)2 ][Cu(PA)2 Ln(H2 O)8 ][α-GeMo12 O40 ]⋅10 H2 O (Ln=Nd3+ (7), Sm3+ (8), Eu3+ (9); HPA=picolinic acid). The most remarkable structural characteristic of compounds 1-6 was that their molecular units were defined by three discrete plenary Keggin [α-GeMo12 O40 ]4- polyoxoanions and two organic-inorganic hybrid heterometallic [LnCu(INA)4 (H2 O)6 ]+ moieties, whereas compounds 7-9 exhibited a nice-looking 1D chain-like structure that was built from plenary [α-GeMo12 O40 ]4- polyoxoanions, pendent [Cu(PA)2 ] complexes, and bridging {[Cu(PA)2 ][Ln(H2 O)8 ]}3+ heterometallic groups. Notably, two different pyridine carboxylic acid ligands led to the discrepancy between the two structure types. To the best of our knowledge, compounds 1-9 constitute the first examples of plenary Keggin heterometallic germanomolybdates that include Cu-Ln-organic subunits. Further studies revealed that compounds 3 and 8 exhibited fast adsorption capacity for cationic dyes methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB) in water. Moreover, compounds 3 and 8 could quickly and selectively adsorb MB from a mixture of MB/methyl orange (MO) or MB/azophloxine (Apo).

Abstract
A series of organic-inorganic rare-earth-incorporated tellurotungstate hybrids, Na4[RE2(H2O)4(pica)2W2O5][(RE(H2O)W2(Hpica)2O4)(B-β-TeW8O30H2)2]2·38H2O (RE = LaIII (1), CeIII (2), NdIII (3), SmIII (4), EuIII (5); Hpica = 2-picolinic acid), were prepared via a one-step assembly reaction of Na2WO4·2H2O, RE(NO3)3·6H2O, K2TeO3, Hpica, and triethylamine (tea). Notably, the solubilization of tea toward Hpica and the solubilization of Hpica toward RE cations in the reaction system play an important role in the formation of 1-5. The most significant feature of 1-5 consists of an intriguing tetrameric [RE2(H2O)4(pica)2W2O5][(RE(H2O)W2(Hpica)2O4)(B-β-TeW8O30H2)2]24- polyoxoanion constructed from two tetravacant Keggin sandwich-type [(RE(H2O)W2(Hpica)2O4)(B-β-TeW8O30H2)2]5- entities linked by a RE-W-Hpica {RE2(H2O)4(pica)2W2O5}6+ cluster, in which Hpica ligands not only play a key bridging role in linking RE and W centers by carboxylic groups in an irregular N-O-RE-O-W-O six-membered-ring motif but also can directly chelate with W centers via N and O atoms in a stable N-O-C-O-W five-membered-ring fashion. 1-5 represent rare organic-inorganic hybrid RE-substituted tellurotungstates. Moreover, the solid-state photoluminescence properties of 3-5 have been deeply investigated, and these compounds exhibit the characteristic emission stemming from intra-4f transitions of RE ions. The energy transfer of the O → W transitions sensitizing the emission of SmIII centers in 4 is convincingly proved by time-resolved emission spectra (TRES); the increase in the strongest typical emission of SmIII ions at a decay time of 17 μs is accompanied by the decline of O → W emission, and the CIE 1931 diagram was obtained from the corresponding TRES. Furthermore, a comparison of the luminescence behaviors of 5 in the solid state and in solution reveals the structural skeletal integrity of 5 in solution and a shorter decay lifetime in the solution caused by the high-frequency O-H oscillators.

Abstract
Two novel hexanuclear DyIII complexes with polyhydroxy Schiff-base ligands, [Dy6(L1)4(μ3-OH)4(MeOH)4]Cl2·2MeOH·2MeCN (1) and [Dy6(HL2)2(μ3-OH)2(μ3-OCH3)2(piv)10(MeOH)2] (2) (H3L1 = N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)(propylene-2-ol)-1,3-diamine, H3L2 = 2,3-dihydroxypropylimino)methyl)-6-methoxyphenol, piv = pivalate), have been prepared under solvothermal conditions and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, thermal analyses, and IR spectroscopy. Each of the hexanuclear complexes is constructed with Dy3 triangular motifs as building blocks, and the six DyIII ions are arranged in a chair-shaped conformation. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range of 2–300 K indicate dominant ferromagnetic exchange interactions between the DyIII ions in the complexes. Both complexes exhibit slow magnetic relaxation behavior. We report two novel chair-shaped hexanuclear DyIII complexes with different polyhydroxy Schiff-base ligands. Both complexes are constructed with Dy3 triangular motifs as building blocks and exhibit slow magnetic relaxation behavior at low temperature.![]()

Abstract
Three rare-earth containing docosatungstates Na3H2[RE(H2O)4][RE(H2O)5]2[W22O74H2]·36H2O [RE=DyIII (1), HoIII (2), YIII (3)] have been synthesized by reaction of Na2WO4·2H2O, dimethylamine hydrochloride (DMAHC) and RE(NO3)3·6H2O in the aqueous solution and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1-3 are isomorphous and each molecular unit consists of a S-shaped docosatungstate [W22O74H2]14- polyoxoanion with two supporting [RE(H2O)5]3+ cations and one disordered [RE(H2O)4]3+ cation. The [W22O74H2]14- polyoxoanion can be viewed as combination of two hendecatungstate [W11O38H]9- subunits in the staggered fashion by sharing two μ2-O atoms. The TG curves of 1-3 reveal the one-step weight loss between 25°C to 700°C. Moreover, both 1 and 2 demonstrate the characteristic luminescence emission behaviors of the corresponding RE3+ ions and their lifetime decay curves can be well fitted to the double exponential function. In addition, the CIE chromaticity coordinates of 1 and 2 have been obtained based on their corresponding emission spectra, and their dominant wavelengths and color purities have been also calculated.

Abstract
A new series of heterometallic 3d-4f sandwich type phosphotungstates, [Ln{PCo2W10O38(H2O)2}2](11-) (Ln = Sm(III), Eu(III), Gd(III), Tb(III), Dy(III), Ho(III), Er(III), Tm(III), Yb(III), and Lu(III), denoted 1a-10a, respectively), have been synthesized by a one-pot reaction procedure on reacting the dilacunary K14[P2W19O69(H2O)]·24H2O precursor with Ln(NO3)3·nH2O and Co(NO3)2·6H2O in an aqueous potassium chloride solution. All the compounds were isolated as potassium salts and further characterized with different analytical techniques such as single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, elemental analysis by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, magnetic measurement, and thermogravimetric analysis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of the compounds reveals that all these compounds are isostructural and crystallized in the orthorhombic crystal system in space group Iba2. The polyanions contain the α-1,5 isomer of dicobalt-substituted α-Keggin phosphotungstate, which sandwiched lanthanoid cation and formed novel heterometallic dimer species. The temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibilities of 1a, 2a, 4a, and 7a-10a indicate the dominant contribution of the ferromagnetic interaction between Co(II) and Co(II) within the cluster, while the antiferromagnetic interaction between Co(II) and Ln(III) dominates for 3a, 5a, and 6a. The isothermal magnetizations of 1a-10a show a gradual increase in magnetization at low fields and do not reach saturation even at 50 kOe.

Abstract
A series of novel organic-inorganic hybrid 1-D double chain germanotungstates [H2dap][Cu(dap)2]0.5[Cu(dap)2(H2O)][Ln(H2O)3(α-GeW11O39)]·3H2O [Ln = La(III) (1), Pr(III) (2), Nd(III) (3), Sm(III) (4), Eu(III) (5), Tb(III) (6), Er(III) (7)] (dap = 1,2-diaminopropane) have been hydrothermally prepared and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), IR spectra, thermogravimetric (TG) analyses, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The most prominent structural feature of 1-7 is that the [Ln(H2O)3(α-GeW11O39)](5-) moieties are firstly connected with each other via the W-O-Ln-O-W bridges creating a 1-D {[Cu(dap)2(H2O)][Ln(H2O)3(α-GeW11O39)]}n(3n-) polymeric chain and then two adjacent antiparallel 1-D polymeric chains are linked together through [Cu(dap)2](2+) linkages giving rise to the rare organic-inorganic hybrid 1-D Cu(II)-Ln(III) heterometallic double-chain architectures. To the best of our knowledge, 1-7 represent the first 1-D double-chain Cu(II)-Ln(III) heterometallic germanotungstates. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibilities of 2, 4 and 7 have been investigated. Furthermore, the solid-state electrochemical and electro-catalytic properties of 3 and 4 have been measured in 0.5 mol L(-1) Na2SO4 + H2SO4 aqueous solution by entrapping them in a carbon paste electrode. 3 and 4 display apparent electro-catalytic activities for nitrite, bromate and hydrogen peroxide reduction.

Abstract
Three new two-dimensional Cu(I)-Ln(III) heterometallic coordination polymers [Ln(III)Cu2(I)(Hbpdc)4] · Cl · xH2O [Ln(III) = La(III), x = 8 (1); Ln(III) = Pr(III), x=9 (2); Ln(III) = Eu(III), x = 8 (3)] (H2bpdc = 2,2'-bipyridyl-5,5'-dicarboxylic acid) have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) analyses, IR spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray diffraction indicates that the isomorphic 1-3 display the two-dimensional sheet structure constructed from [Cu(I)(Hbpdc)2](-) fragments through Ln(3+) connectors. Moreover, the solid-state photoluminescence measurements of 3 indicate that the Eu(III) ions, Hbpdc(-) ligands and Cu(I) cations make contributions to its luminescent properties simultaneously.
