Abstract
The reaction of Co(NCS)2 with N-methylaniline leads to the formation of [Co(NCS)2(N-methylaniline)2]n (1), in which the cobalt(II) cations are octahedrally coordinated and linked into linear chains by pairs of thiocyanate anions. In contrast to [Co(NCS)2(aniline)2]n (2) reported recently, in which the Co(NCS)2 chains are linked by strong interchain N-H···S hydrogen bonding, such interactions are absent in 1. Computational studies reveal that the cobalt(II) ions in compound 1 show an easy-axis anisotropy that is lower than in 2, but with the direction of the easy axis being similar in both compounds. The high magnetic anisotropy is also confirmed by magnetic and FD-FT THz-EPR spectroscopy, which yield a consistent gz value. These investigations prove that the intrachain interactions in 1 are slightly higher than in 2. Magnetic measurements reveal that the critical temperature for magnetic ordering in 1 is significantly lower than in 2, which indicates that the elimination of the hydrogen bonds leads to a weakening of the interchain interactions. This is finally proven by FD-FT THz-EPR experiments, which show that the interchain interaction energy in the N-methylaniline compound 1 is nine-fold smaller than in the aniline compound 2.

Interplay of Anisotropic Exchange Interactions and Single-Ion Anisotropy in Single-Chain Magnets Built from Ru/Os Cyanidometallates(III) and Mn(III) Complex. Molecules 2023; 28:molecules28031516. Abstract
Two novel 1D heterobimetallic compounds {[MnIII(SB2+)MIII(CN)6]·4H2O}n (SB2+ = N,N'-ethylenebis(5-trimethylammoniomethylsalicylideneiminate) based on orbitally degenerate cyanidometallates [OsIII(CN)6]3- (1) and [RuIII(CN)6]3- (2) and MnIII Schiff base complex were synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically. Their crystal structures consist of electrically neutral, well-isolated chains composed of alternating [MIII(CN)6]3- anions and square planar [MnIII(SB2+)]3+ cations bridged by cyanide groups. These -ion magnetic anisotropy of MnIII centers. These results indicate that the presence of compounds exhibit single-chain magnet (SCM) behavior with the energy barriers of Δτ1/kB = 73 K, Δτ2/kB = 41.5 K (1) and Δτ1/kB = 51 K, Δτ2 = 27 K (2). Blocking temperatures of TB = 2.8, 2.1 K and magnetic hysteresis with coercive fields (at 1.8 K) of 8000, 1600 Oe were found for 1 and 2, respectively. Theoretical analysis of the magnetic data reveals that their single-chain magnet behavior is a product of a complicated interplay of extremely anisotropic triaxial exchange interactions in MIII(4d/5d)-CN-MnIII fragments: -JxSMxSMnx-JySMySMny-JzSMzSMnz, with opposite sign of exchange parameters Jx = -22, Jy = +28, Jz = -26 cm-1 and Jx = -18, Jy = +20, Jz = -18 cm-1 in 1 and 2, respectively) and single orbitally degenerate [OsIII(CN)6]3- and [RuIII(CN)6]3- spin units with unquenched orbital angular momentum in the chain compounds 1 and 2 leads to a peculiar regime of slow magnetic relaxation, which is beyond the scope of the conventional Glaubers's 1D Ising model and anisotropic Heisenberg model.

Abstract
The first neutral 2D heterometallic assemblies based on orbitally degenerate heptacyanidorhenate(IV) were prepared and structurally characterized. An analysis of the magnetic data for the polycrystalline samples of Ph4P[{Mn(acacen)}2Re(CN)7]·Solv (1) and PPN[{Mn(acacen)}2Re(CN)7]·Solv (2) have shown that both materials display slow magnetic relaxation at temperatures below 10 and 21 K for 1 and 2, respectively. Despite the presence of the same molecular magnetic modules that make up the anionic layers, the studied 2D networks differ significantly in magnetic anisotropy, having a small coercive field (0.115 T) for 1 and a large one (~2.5 T) for 2 at 2 K. In addition, for both polymers a M(H) value does not saturate at the maximum available field of 7 T, and the material 2 is a metamagnet. This intriguing difference originates from the cooperative anisotropic spin interaction in ReIV-CN-MnIII pairs and the zero field splitting (ZFS) effect of MnIII ions with a noncollinear alignment of the local magnetic axes in crystals of the compounds.

Abstract
Reaction of Co(NCS)2 with different coligands leads to the formation of three compounds with the general composition [Co(NCS)2(L)2]n (L = aniline (1), morpholine (2), and ethylenethiourea (3)). In all of these compounds the cobalt(II) cations are octahedrally coordinated by two trans thiocyanate N and S atoms and the apical donor atoms of the coligands and are linked into linear chains by pairs of anionic ligands. The magnetic behavior was investigated by a combination of static and dynamic susceptibility as well as specific-heat measurements, computational studies, and THz-EPR spectroscopy. All compounds show antiferromagnetic ordering as observed for similar compounds with pyridine derivatives as coligands. In contrast to the latter, for 1-3 significantly higher critical temperatures and no magnetic single-chain relaxations are observed, which can be traced back to stronger interchain interactions and a drastic change in the magnetic anisotropy of the metal centers. These results are discussed and compared with those of the pyridine-based compounds, which provides important insights into the parameters that govern the magnetic behavior of such one-dimensional coordination polymers.

Abstract
Two different isomers of [Co(NCS)2(4-chloropyridine)2]n (3C and 3L) were synthesized from solution and by thermal decomposition of Co(NCS)2(4-chloropyridine)2(H2O)2 (2), which show a different metal coordination leading to corrugated chains in 3C and to linear chains in 3L. Solvent mediated conversion experiments prove that 3C is thermodynamically stable at room temperature where 3L is metastable. Magnetic measurements reveal that the magnetic exchange in 3L is comparable to that observed for previously reported related chain compounds, whereas in 3C with corrugated chains, the ferromagnetic interaction within the chains is strongly suppressed. The magnetic ordering takes place at 2.85 and 0.89 K, for 3L and 3C, respectively, based on specific heat measurements. For 3L the field dependence of magnetic relaxations in antiferromagnetically ordered ferromagnetic chains is presented. In addition, 3L is investigated by FD-FT THz-EPR spectroscopy, revealing a ground to first excited state energy gap of 14.0 cm-1. Broken-symmetry DFT calculations for 3C and 3L indicate a ferromagnetic intrachain interaction. Ab initio CASSCF/CASPT2/RASSI-SO computational studies reveal significantly different single-ion anisotropies for the crystallographically independent cobalt(II) centers in 3C and 3L. Together with the geometry of the chains this explains the magnetic properties of 3C and 3L. The ab initio results also explain the weaker exchange interaction in 3C and 3L as compared to previously reported [Co(NCS)2(L)2]n compounds with linear chains.

Abstract
The cobalt(II) in [Co(NCS)2 (4-methoxypyridine)2 ]n are linked by pairs of thiocyanate anions into linear chains. In contrast to a previous structure determination, two crystallographically independent cobalt(II) centers have been found to be present. In the antiferromagnetic state, below the critical temperature (Tc =3.94 K) and critical field (Hc =290 Oe), slow relaxations of the ferromagnetic chains are observed. They originate mainly from defects in the magnetic structure, which has been elucidated by micromagnetic Monte Carlo simulations and ac measurements using pristine and defect samples. The energy barriers of the relaxations are Δτ1 =44.9(5) K and Δτ2 =26.0(7) K for long and short spin chains, respectively. The spin excitation energy, measured by using frequency-domain EPR spectroscopy, is 19.1 cm-1 and shifts 0.1 cm-1 due to the magnetic ordering. Ab initio calculations revealed easy-axis anisotropy for both CoII centers, and also an exchange anisotropy Jxx /Jzz of 0.21. The XXZ anisotropic Heisenberg model (solved by using the density renormalization matrix group technique) was used to reconcile the specific heat, susceptibility, and EPR data.

Abstract
Reactions of [Mn(H2 dapsc)Cl2 ]⋅H2 O (dapsc=2,6- diacetylpyridine bis(semicarbazone)) with K3 [Fe(CN)6 ] and (PPh4 )3 [Fe(CN)6 ] lead to the formation of the chain polymeric complex {[Mn(H2 dapsc)][Fe(CN)6 ][K(H2 O)3.5 ]}n ⋅1.5n H2 O (1) and the discrete pentanuclear complex {[Mn(H2 dapsc)]3 [Fe(CN)6 ]2 (H2 O)2 }⋅4 CH3 OH⋅3.4 H2 O (2), respectively. In the crystal structure of 1 the high-spin [MnII (H2 dapsc)]2+ cations and low-spin hexacyanoferrate(III) anions are assembled into alternating heterometallic cyano-bridged chains. The K+ ions are located between the chains and are coordinated by oxygen atoms of the H2 dapsc ligand and water molecules. The magnetic structure of 1 is built from ferrimagnetic chains, which are antiferromagnetically coupled. The complex exhibits metamagnetism and frequency-dependent ac magnetic susceptibility, indicating single-chain magnetic behavior with a Mydosh-parameter φ=0.12 and an effective energy barrier (Ueff /kB ) of 36.0 K with τ0 =2.34×10-11 s for the spin relaxation. Detailed theoretical analysis showed highly anisotropic intra-chain spin coupling between [FeIII (CN)6 ]3- and [MnII (H2 dapsc)]2+ units resulting from orbital degeneracy and unquenched orbital momentum of [FeIII (CN)6 ]3- complexes. The origin of the metamagnetic transition is discussed in terms of strong magnetic anisotropy and weak AF interchain spin coupling.

Abstract
Five new cyanido-bridged heterometallic coordination polymers have been obtained by reacting PPh4[RuIII(salpn)(CN)2]·H2O (1) and AsPh4[RuIII(valen)(CN)2]·8.5H2O (2) (H2salpn and H2valen being Schiff-base proligands resulting from the condensation reaction of salicylaldehyde with 1,3-propanediamine and, respectively, o-vanillin with 1,2-ethanediamine) with divalent transition metal perchlorate salts: ∞1[{RuIII(salpn)(CN)2}3{MII(DMF)3}2](ClO4)·4DMF (MII = Mn, 3; Co, 4) and ∞2[{RuIII(valen)(CN)2}4{MII(DMF)3}2{MII(DMF)4}](ClO4)2·4DMF (MII = Mn, 5; Co, 6; Ni, 7), respectively. The dicyanido species, trans-[Ru(salpn)(CN)2]- and trans-[Ru(valen)(CN)2]-, act as metalloligands with the 3d metal ions. Compounds 3 and 4 are isostructural one-dimensional (1D) coordination polymers with a ladder topology. Each MII ion is hexacoordinated by three cyanido groups arising from three {Ru(salpn)(CN)2} units and by the oxygen atoms from three DMF molecules, which are coordinated at meridional positions. Compounds 5-7 are also isostructural, their structures consisting of 2D networks with a herringbone topology. The magnetic susceptibility measurements of these 1D and 2D systems reveal the presence of dominating RuIII-MII antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions in compounds 3, 4, 5 and 6, while ferromagnetic RuIII-NiII interactions are observed in 7. All these compounds stay in their paramagnetic state down to 1.8 K except compound 4 which possesses a 3D ordered AF ground state.

Abstract
The coexistence of dehydration-driven charge transfer, magnetic interactions, and high proton conductivity was found in two bimetallic alternating CN-bridged chains {(H3O)[NiIII(cyclam)][MII(CN)6]·5H2O} n (M = Ru (1), Os (2); cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane). Dehydration of these materials causes structural transformation and triggers charge transfer between the metal centers: NiIII-NC-MII → NiII-NC-MIII. The CT process, whose extent is tuned by the change of the anionic building block, causes significant increase of magnetic moment, appearance of antiferromagnetic interactions, and noticeable changes in color. The high conductivity values of σ = 1.09 × 10-3 (1) and 1.12 × 10-3 S cm-1 (2) at 295 K and 100% relative humidity allow the classification of the materials as superionic conductors. The proton conduction occurs according to the Grotthuss mechanism as a hopping of protons between H-bonded water molecules due to the presence of the H3O+ ions, which compensate negative charge of the coordination chains.

Abstract
A series of isomorphous three-dimensional metal–organic frameworks [CoII1−xZnIIx(L)(N3)]·H2O (x = 0.26, 0.56 and 0.85) based on bimetallic CoII1−xZnIIx (x = 0.26, 0.56 and 0.85) chains with random metal sites have been synthesized and magnetically characterized. The CoII1−xZnIIx series, which intrinsically feature random anisotropic/diamagnetic sites, shows complex magnetic interactions. By gradually introducing the diamagnetic ZnII ions into the pure anisotropic CoII single-chain magnets system, the ferromagnetic interactions between CoII ions are gradually diluted. Moreover, the slow magnetic relaxation behaviour of the mixed metal CoII1−xZnIIx systems also changes. In this bimetallic series CoII1−xZnIIx, the Co-rich materials exhibit slow relaxation processes that may arise from SCM mechanism, while the ZnII-rich materials show significantly low slow magnetic relaxation. A general trend is that the activation energy and the blocking temperature decrease with the increase in diamagnetic ZnII content, emphasizing the importance of anisotropy for slow relaxation of magnetization. A series of mixed-metal systems consisting of CoII1−xZnIIx chains with (μ-COO)2(μ-EO-N3) bridges were prepared, exhibiting interesting magnetic coupling and slow magnetic relaxation.![]()

Abstract
Ladder-type and chain 2p-3d-4f complexes based on a bridging nitronyl nitroxide radical, namely, [LnCu(hfac)5(NIT-Ph-p-OCH2trz)]·0.5C6H14 [Ln = Y (1a), Dy (1b)] and [LnCu(hfac)5(NIT-Ph-p-OCH2trz)] [Ln = Y (2a), Dy (2b); NIT-Ph-p-OCH2trz = 2-[4-[(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methoxy]phenyl]-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide; hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate) have been successfully achieved through a one-pot reaction of the NIT-Ph-p-OCH2trz radical with Cu(hfac)2 and Ln(hfac)3·2H2O. Complexes 1a and 1b feature a ladder-like structure, where the rails are made of Ln(III) and Cu(II) ions alternatively bridged by nitronyl nitroxide and the triazole units while the NIT-Ph-p-OCH2trz moieties act as the rungs of the ladder. Complexes 2a and 2b consist of one-dimensional nitronyl nitroxide bridged Ln coordination polymers with dangly Cu(II) units connected to the triazole moieties. All of compounds exhibit ferromagnetic NIT-Dy and/or NIT-Cu interactions. Both Dy derivatives (1b and 2b) show frequency-dependent out-of-phase magnetic susceptibility signals in a zero field indicating slow magnetic relaxation behavior.

Abstract
Two one-dimensional cyano-bridged coordination polymers, namely, {[MnII(dapsc)][MnIII(CN)6][K(H2O)2.75(MeOH)0.5]}n·0.5n(H2O) (I) and {[MnII(dapsc)][MnIII(CN)6][K(H2O)2(MeOH)2]}n (II), based on alternating high-spin MnII(dapsc) (dapsc = 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(semicarbazone)) complexes and low-spin orbitally degenerate hexacyanomanganate(III) complexes were synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically. Static and dynamic magnetic measurements reveal a single-chain magnet (SCM) behavior of I with an energy barrier of Ueff ≈ 40 K. Magnetic properties of I are analyzed in detail in terms of a microscopic theory. It is shown that compound I refers to a peculiar case of SCM that does not fall into the usual Ising and Heisenberg limits due to unconventional character of the MnIII-CN-MnII spin coupling resulting from a nonmagnetic singlet ground state of orbitally degenerate complexes [MnIII(CN)6]3-. The prospects of [MnIII(CN)6]3- complex as magnetically anisotropic molecular building block for engineering molecular magnets are critically analyzed.

Abstract
Two 3D isostructural metal-organic frameworks with 1D ferrimagnetic chains, formulated as [M3(L)(μ3-OH)2(H2O)4] [H4L = (1,1':4',1″-terphenyl)-2',3,3″,5'-tetracarboxylic acid, where M = Mn for 1 and Co for 2], have been successfully synthesized by employing different center metal ions and a multicarboxylate ligand under identical reaction conditions in this work. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction data of 1 and 2 reveal that the complexes are two 3D isostructural frameworks based on 1D [M3(OH)2]n chains composed of triangular subunits as rod-shaped secondary building units, which are classified as binodal 4,6-connected fry nets with the point symbol (5(10)·6(3)·7(8))(5(4)·6(2)). The magnetic properties revealed that complexes 1 and 2 exhibit ferrimagnetic behavior. Also, the alternating-current susceptibility of 2 displays slow magnetic relaxation, showing interesting magnetic behavior of a single-chain magnet with an effective energy barrier of 32 K.
