Abstract
Catalytic difunctionalization with the direct activation of (O)P-H bonds has been recently established as a potentially robust platform to generate valuable organophosphorus compounds. In terms of 1,3-enynes, despite of the various catalytic methods developed for hydrophosphorylation, the radical-mediated hetero-functionalization of two different atoms has been less explored. In this study, we disclosed an electrochemically induced hydroxyphosphorylation of 1,3-enynes for the construction of phosphinyl-substituted propargyl alcohols. The system involves the direct activation of both arylphosphine oxides and oxygen in ambient air with no external metal or additive needed. The use of electrochemistry ensures the regioselective, atom-economic and eco-friendly for the difunctionalization process. This strategy highlights the advantages of mild reaction conditions, readily available starting materials and broad substrate scope, showing its practical synthetic value in organic synthesis.

Abstract
The construction of olefin-linked chiral covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with high crystallinity is highly desirable while remains great challenge due to the poor reversibility of the formation reaction for the olefin linkages during the in situ structural self-healing process. Herein, we successfully synthesized two sets of enantiomeric olefin-linked COFs. The chiral catalytic groups are uniformly distributed on the pore walls of COFs, resulting in the full exposure of catalytic sites to the reactants in asymmetric catalysis. The as-prepared (R)/(S)-CCOF8 exhibits excellent catalytic performance with exceeding 99 % enantiomeric excess in the enantioselective electrophilic amination reaction. Moreover, the heterogeneous chiral catalysts are conveniently recycled and could maintain the performance after ten catalytic cycles. Our findings expand the scope to construct stable and crystalline chiral COFs for the asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
Construction of axially chiral arylpyrazoles represents an attractive challenge due to the relatively low rotational barrier of biaryl structures containing five-membered heterocycles. This work describes the catalytic asymmetric construction of axially chiral arylpyrazoles using 5-aminopyrazoles and naphthoquinone derivatives. The chiral axis could be formed through a central-to-axial chirality relay step of the chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed arylation reaction, which features excellent yields and enantioselectivities with a broad substrate scope under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Atropoisomeric chemotypes of diaryl ethers-related scaffolds are prevalent in naturally active compounds. Nevertheless, there remains considerable research to be carried out on the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of these axially chiral molecules. In this instance, we disclose an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-catalyzed synthesis of axially chiral diaryl ethers via atroposelective esterification of dialdehyde-containing diaryl ethers. NHC desymmetrization produces axially chiral diaryl ether atropisomers with high yields and enantioselectivities in moderate circumstances. Chiral diaryl ether compounds may be precursors for highly functionalized diaryl ethers with bioactivity and chiral ligands for asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
A new series of biaryls, bi-linear-terphenylenes (BLTPs), were prepared using the tert-butyllithium-mediated cyclization as the key synthetic step. The three-dimensional structures of the studied compounds were verified using X-ray crystallography and DFT calculations. Tetraaryl(ethynyl)-substituted BLTPs are highly crowded molecules, and the internal rotation around the central C-C bond is restricted due to a high barrier (>50 kcal/mol). These structures contain several aryl/terphenylenyl/aryl sandwiches, where the through-space π-π (TSPP) interactions are strongly reflected in the shielding of 1 H NMR chemical shifts, reduction of oxidation potentials, increasing aromaticity of the central six-membered ring and decreasing antiaromaticity of the four-membered rings in a terphenylenyl moiety based on NICS(0) and iso-chemical shielding surfaces. Despite the restricted C-C bond associated intramolecular TSPP interactions for BLTPs in the ground state, to our surprise, the electronic coupling between two linear terphenylenes (LTPs) in BLTPs in the excited state is weak, so that the excited-state behavior is dominated by the corresponding monomeric LTPs. In other words, all BLTPs undergo ultrafast relaxation dynamics via strong exciton-vibration coupling, acting as a blue-light absorber with essentially no emission.

Abstract
Herein, we have reported the synthesis of a macrocyclic organosulfur ligand (L1) having a seventeen-membered macrocyclic ring. Subsequently, the corresponding trans-palladium complex (C1) of bulky macrocyclic organosulfur ligand (L1) was synthesized by reacting it with PdCl2 (CH3 CN)2 salt. The newly synthesized ligand and complex were characterized using various analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The complex showed a square planar geometry with trans orientation of two ligands around the palladium center. The complex possesses intramolecular SCH…Cl interactions of 2.648 Å between the macrocyclic ligand and palladium dichloride. The potential energy surface (PES) for the rotational process of C1 suggested a barrier of ~23.81 kcal/mol for chlorine rotation. Furthermore, the bulky macrocyclic organosulfur ligand stabilized palladium complex (C1) was used as a catalyst (2.5 mol %) for α-olefination of nitriles by primary alcohols. The α,β-unsaturated nitrile compounds were found to be the major product of the reaction (57-78 % yield) with broad substrate scope and large functional group tolerance. Notably, the saturated nitrile product was not observed during the reaction. The mechanistic studies suggested the formation of H2 and H2 O as only by-products of the reaction, thereby making the protocol greener and sustainable.

Abstract
This paper presents a Mn(I)-catalysed methodology for the enantioselective hydrophosphination of terminal alkenyl aza-heteroarenes. The catalyst operates through H-P bond activation, enabling successful hydrophosphination of a diverse range of alkenyl-heteroarenes with high enantioselectivity. The presented protocol addresses the inherently low reactivity and the commonly encountered suboptimal enantioselectivities of these challenging substrates. As an important application we show that this method facilitates the synthesis of a non-symmetric tridentate P,N,P-containing ligand like structure in just two synthetic steps using a single catalytic system.

Abstract
Phosphinooxazoline (PHOX) ligands have been used to control the regio- and enantioselectivity in a wide variety of metal-catalyzed reactions. Despite their widespread use, PHOX ligands have never been studied in metal-aryne complexes. Herein we report the first example of a PHOX-Ni aryne complex. As demonstrated in other systems, the differentiated P versus N donors and different steric environments of the unsymmetric ligand are able to induce regiocontrol. A 81:19 mixture of o-methoxy substituted aryne complexes is observed. Single-crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis, UV/vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry are used to gain further insight into the molecular and electronic structure of these complexes. Lastly, a methylation/deuteration sequence shows retention of the PHOX ligand-induced regiocontrol in the difunctionalized products and that the regiospecificity of these difunctionalizations is due to the trans influence of the P donor.

Abstract
A chiral carbene-catalyzed chemo- and enantioselective reaction with racemic biaryl aldehydes and α-bromoenals is developed for access to axially chiral 2-arylbenzaldehydes through atroposelective dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) processes. This atroposelective DKR strategy can tolerate a broad scope of substrates with diverse functionalities. The axially chiral 2-aryl benzaldehyde products generally afford moderate to good yields and enantioselectivities. The axially chiral molecules afforded from the current approach are variable through simple transformations to afford axially chiral functional molecules with excellent optical purities.

Abstract
Herein we report a catalytic enantioselective alkynylation of quinolones. In this reaction, quinolones are silylated to form a quinolinium ion which then undergoes an enantioselective attack by a copper acetylide, templated by (S,S,Ra)-UCD-Phim. This gives alkynylated products (24 examples) in yields of up to 92% and enantioselectivities of up to 97%. This methodology has been applied to the synthesis of two natural products, (+)-cuspareine and (+)-galipinine.

Abstract
A catalyst-free photosensitized strategy has been developed for regioselective imino functionalizations of alkenes via the formation of an EDA complex. This photo-induced protocol facilitates the construction of structurally diverse β-imino sulfones and vinyl sulfones in moderate to high yields. Mechanistic studies reveal that the reaction is initiated with an intermolecular charge transfer between oximes and sulfinates, followed by fragmentation to generate a persistent iminyl radical and transient sulfonyl radical. This catalyst-free protocol also features excellent regioselectivity, broad functional group tolerance and mild reaction conditions. The late stage functionalization of natural product derived compounds and total synthesis of some bioactive molecules have been demonstrated to highlight the utility of this protocol. Meanwhile, the compatibility of different donors has proved the generality of this strategy.

Abstract
Phosphino hydrazones represent a versatile class of nitrogen-containing phosphine ligands. Herein, we report a modular synthesis of phosphino hydrazone ligands by hydrazone condensation reaction of three different aryl hydrazines with 3-(diphenylphosphino)propanal (PCHO). Complexation reactions of these phosphino hydrazone ligands with palladium(II) and platinum(II) were investigated and the catalytic activity of the palladium(II) complexes was explored in a Cu-free Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction achieving yields up to 96 %. Additionally it was shown that the catalytically active species is homogeneous.

Abstract
Sulfur-protected enantiopure P-chiral 1-phosphanorbornane silyl ethers 5a,b are obtained in high yields via the reaction of the hydroxy group of P-chiral 1-phosphanorbornane alcohol 4 with tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (TBDMSCl) and triphenylsilyl chloride (TPSCl). The corresponding optically pure silyl ethers 5a,b are purified via crystallization and fully structurally characterized. Desulfurization with excess Raney nickel gives access to bulky monodentate enantiopure phosphorus(III) 1-phosphanorbornane silyl ethers 6a,b which are subsequently applied as ligands in iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of a prochiral ketone and enamide. Better activity and selectivity were observed in the latter case.

Abstract
The 3d metallaelectro-catalyzed C-H activation has been identified as an increasingly viable strategy to access valuable organic molecules in a resource-economic fashion under exceedingly mild reaction conditions. However, the development of enantioselective 3d metallaelectro-catalyzed C-H activation is very challenging and in its infancy. Here, we disclose the merger of cobaltaelectro-catalyzed C-H activation with asymmetric catalysis for the highly enantioselective annulation of allenes. A broad range of C-N axially chiral and P-stereogenic compounds were thereby obtained in good yields of up to 98% with high enantioselectivities of up to >99% ee. The practicality of this approach was demonstrated by the diversification of complex bioactive compounds and drug molecules as well as decagram scale enantioselective electrocatalysis in continuous flow.

Abstract
An organocatalytic atroposelective strategy for the construction of axially chiral compounds containing benzimidazole and quinoline rings is described. The enantioselective heteroannulation reaction of 2-alkynylbenzimidazoles with ortho-aminophenylketones proceeded smoothly in the presence of chiral phosphoric acid to provide axially chiral heterobiaryls with good yields and enantioselectivities. This is the first example of the combination of benzimidazole and quinoline rings at the 2- and 3-positions, respectively, into axially chiral heterobiaryls by this new strategy.

Abstract
A concise synthesis of cinchona-alkaloid-derived NN ligands bearing alkyl substituents on chiral nitrogen atoms was described. Iridium catalysts containing new chiral NN ligands and achiral phosphines were effective for the asymmetric hydrogenation of heteroaromatic ketones, which afforded corresponding alcohols in up to 99.9% ee. The same protocol was applicable to the asymmetric hydrogenation of α-chloroheteroaryl ketones. Most importantly, the gram-scale asymmetric hydrogenation of 2-acetylthiophene and 2-acetylfuran proceeded smoothly even under 1 MPa of H2.

Abstract
By salt metathesis reactions of the anionic complexes of the type [Cp*Fe(η4-P5R)]- (R = tBu (1a), Me (1b), -C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh (1c); Cp* = 1,2,3,4,5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) with organic electrophiles (XRFG; X = halogen; RFG = (CH2)3Br, (CH2)4Br, Me) a variety of organo-substituted polyphosphorus ligand complexes of the type [Cp*Fe(η4-P5RRFG)] (2) are obtained. Thereby, organic substituents with different functional groups (FG), such as halogens or nitriles, are introduced. In [Cp*Fe(η4-P5RR')] (2a: R = tBu, R' = (CH2)3Br), the bromine substituent can be easily substituted, leading to functionalized complexes [{Cp*Fe(η4-P5tBu)}(CH2)3{Cp*Fe(η4-P5Me)}] (4) and [Cp*Fe(η4-P5RR')] (5) (R = tBu, R' = (CH2)3PPh2) or by abstraction of a phosphine to the asymmetric substituted phosphine tBu(Bn)P(CH2)3Bn (6). The reaction of the dianionic species [K(dme)2]2[Cp*Fe(η4-P5)] (I') with bromo-nitriles leads to [Cp*Fe{η4-P5((CH2)3CN)2}] (7), allowing the introduction of two functional groups attached to one phosphorus atom. 7 reacts with ZnBr2 in a self-assembly reaction to form the supramolecular compound [Cp*Fe{η4-P5((CH2)3CN)2}ZnBr2]n (8).

Abstract
Chiral oxazoline compounds play an extremely important role in asymmetric synthesis and drug discovery. Herein a simpler, greener and more efficient microwave-assisted protocol to rapidly access chiral oxazolines is developed using aryl nitriles or cyano-containing compounds and chiral β-amino alcohols as starting materials. The reaction proceeds smoothly in the presence of a recoverable heterogeneous catalyst in either concentrated solution or under solvent-free conditions. The advantages of this method include rapidness, convenience, environmental protection, high atom economy, and excellent yields. The protocol should find wider application in the community in the future.

Abstract
A practical and straightforward protocol to access site-selective C-3 phosphorylated benzofulvenes by means of cross-dehydrogenative coupling of two nucleophilic moieties, employing silver as a promoter, is described here. Remarkably, this protocol provides a broad, structurally diverse phosphorylated benzofulvene. Initial mechanistic studies shed light on its radical coupling nature, and late-stage transformations offer highly diversified benzofulvenes core.

Abstract
An electro-triggered cascade cyclization strategy was disclosed with concomitant phosphinylation and N-heterocycle construction. It provides a novel and environmentally friendly approach to access phosphinyl-substituted N-heterocycles with no external metal catalyst, oxidant, or heating. Mechanistic studies have revealed that anodic oxidation of H-phosphorus compounds occurs first to generate the key P-centered radical directly and cathodic reduction leads to the concurrent release of molecular hydrogen or methane. This protocol features simple operation, broad substrate scope, clean and mild conditions, and atom and step economy to form heterocycle-containing organophosphorus scaffolds.

Abstract
Diaryl ethers are widespread in biologically active compounds, ligands and catalysts. It is known that the diaryl ether skeleton may exhibit atropisomerism when both aryl rings are unsymmetrically substituted with bulky groups. Despite recent advances, only very few catalytic asymmetric methods have been developed to construct such axially chiral compounds. We describe herein a dynamic kinetic resolution approach to axially chiral diaryl ethers via a Brønsted acid catalyzed atroposelective transfer hydrogenation (ATH) reaction of dicarbaldehydes with anilines. The desired diaryl ethers could be obtained in moderate to good chemical yields (up to 79 %) and high enantioselectivities (up to 95 % ee) under standard reaction conditions. Such structural motifs are interesting precursors for further transformations and may have potential applications in the synthesis of chiral ligands or catalysts.

Abstract
Steric properties of ligands are an important parameter for tuning the reactivity of the corresponding complexes. For various ligands used in mononuclear complexes, methods have been developed to quantify their steric bulk. In this work, we present an expansion of the buried volume and the G-parameter to quantify the steric properties of 1,8-napthyridine-based dinuclear complexes. Using this methodology, we explored the tunability of the steric properties associated with these ligands and complexes.

Abstract
Enantioselective C-H activation has surfaced as a transformative toolbox for the efficient assembly of chiral molecules. However, despite of major advances in rhodium and palladium catalysis, ruthenium(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H activation has thus far largely proven elusive. In contrast, we herein report on a ruthenium(II)-catalyzed highly regio-, diastereo- and enantioselective C-H alkylation. The key to success was represented by the identification of novel C2-symmetric chiral imidazolidine carboxylic acids (CICAs), which are easily accessible in a one-pot fashion, as highly effective chiral ligands. This ruthenium/CICA system enabled the efficient installation of central and axial chirality, and featured excellent branched to linear ratios with generally >20 : 1 dr and up to 98 : 2 er. Mechanistic studies by experiment and computation were carried out to understand the catalyst mode of action.

Abstract
The activation of C–H bond, and its direct one-step functionalization, is one of the key synthetic methodologies that provides direct access to a variety of practically significant compounds. Particular attention is focused on modifications obtained at the final stages of the synthesis of complicated molecules, which requires high tolerance to the presence of existing functional groups. Phosphorus is an indispensable element of life, and phosphorus chemistry is now experiencing a renaissance due to new emerging applications in medicinal chemistry, materials chemistry (polymers, flame retardants, organic electronics, and photonics), agricultural chemistry (herbicides, insecticides), catalysis (ligands) and other important areas of science and technology. In this regard, the search for new, more selective, low-waste synthetic routes become relevant. In this context, electrosynthesis has proven to be an eco-efficient and convenient approach in many respects, where the reagents are replaced by electrodes, where the reactants are replaced by electrodes, and the applied potential the applied potential determines their “oxidizing or reducing ability”. An electrochemical approach to such processes is being developed rapidly and demonstrates some advantages over traditional classical methods of C-H phosphorylation. The main reasons for success are the exclusion of excess reagents from the reaction system: such as oxidants, reducing agents, and sometimes metal and/or other improvers, which challenge isolation, increase the wastes and reduce the yield due to frequent incompatibility with these functional groups. Ideal conditions include electron as a reactant (regulated by applied potential) and the by-products as hydrogen or hydrocarbon. The review summarizes and analyzes the achievements of electrochemical methods for the preparation of various phosphorus derivatives with carbon-phosphorus bonds, and collects data on the redox properties of the most commonly used phosphorus precursors. Electrochemically induced reactions both with and without catalyst metals, where competitive oxidation of precursors leads to either the activation of C-H bond or to the generation of phosphorus-centered radicals (radical cations) or metal high oxidation states will be examined. The review focuses on publications from the past 5 years.

Abstract
Molecular machines are at the frontier of biology and chemistry. The ability to control molecular motion and emulating the movement of biological systems are major steps towards the development of responsive and adaptive materials. Amazing progress has been seen for the design of molecular machines including light-induced unidirectional rotation of overcrowded alkenes. However, the feasibility of inducing unidirectional rotation about a single bond as a result of chemical conversion has been a challenging task. In this Review, an overview of approaches towards the design, synthesis, and dynamic properties of different classes of atropisomers which can undergo controlled switching or rotation under the influence of a chemical stimulus is presented. They are categorized as molecular switches, rotors, motors, and autonomous motors according to their type of response. Furthermore, we provide a future perspective and challenges focusing on building sophisticated molecular machines.

Abstract
Atropisomers, arising from conformational restriction, are inherently chiral due to the intersecting dissymmetric planes. Since there are numerous applications of enantiopure atropisomers in catalyst design, drug discovery, and material science, the asymmetric preparation of these highly prized molecules has become a flourishing field in synthetic chemistry. A number of catalysts, synthetic procedures, and novel concepts have been developed for the manufacture of the atropisomeric molecules. However, due to the intrinsic properties of different types of atropisomers featuring biaryl, hetero-biaryl, or non-biaryl architectures, only very few methods pass the rigorous inspection and are considered generally applicable. The development of a broadly applicable synthetic strategy for various atropisomers is a challenge. In this Account, we summarize our recent studies on the enantioselective synthesis of atropisomers using the vinylidene ortho-quinone methides (VQMs) as pluripotent intermediates. The most appealing features of VQMs are the disturbed aromaticity and axial chirality of the allene fragment. At the outset, the applications of VQMs in organic synthesis have been neglected due to their principal liabilities: ephemeral nature, extraordinary reactivity, and multireaction sites. The domestication of this transient intermediate was demonstrated by in situ catalytic asymmetric generation of VQMs, and the reactivity and selectivity were fully explored by judiciously modifying precursors and tuning catalytic systems. A variety of axially chiral heterocycles were achieved through five-, six-, seven- and nine-membered ring formation of VQM intermediates with different kinds of branched nucleophilic functional groups. The axially chiral C-N axis could be constructed from VQM intermediates via N-annulation or desymmetrization of preformed C-N scaffolds. We take advantage of the high electrophilicity of VQMs toward a series of sulfur and carbon based nucleophiles leading to atropisomeric vinyl arenes. Furthermore, chiral helical compounds were realized by cycloaddition or consecutive annulation of VQM intermediates. These achievements demonstrated that the VQMs could work as a nuclear parent for the collective synthesis of distinct and complex optically active atropisomers. Recently, we have realized the isolation and structural characterization of the elusive VQMs, which were questioned as putative intermediates for decades. The successful isolation of VQMs provided direct evidence for their existence and an unprecedented opportunity to directly investigate their reactivity. The good thermal stability and reserved reactivity of the isolated VQMs demonstrated their great potential as synthetic reagents and expanded the border of VQM chemistry.

Abstract
Under transition metal catalyst-free conditions, we herein present a hydride transfer-initiated construction of novel 3-(2-aminomethyl)aryl quinolines from N-isoquinolinium salts and 2-aminobenzaldehydes, proceeding with the merits of operational simplicity, high step and atom efficiency, good substrate and functional group compatibility, and mild conditions. The products are formed by reacting with the isoquinolyl motif as a two-carbon synthon along with the cleavage of its C3-N bond. Given the interesting applications of 3-aryl quinolines, the developed chemistry is anticipated to be further applied to develop new functional products.

Abstract
Thioethers allowed for highly atroposelective C–H olefinations by a palladium/chiral phosphoric acid catalytic system under ambient air. Both N–C and C–C axial chiral (hetero)biaryls were successfully constructed, leading to a broad range of axially chiral N-aryl indoles and biaryls with excellent enantioselectivities up to 99% ee. Experimental and computational studies were conducted to unravel the walking mode for the atroposelective C–H olefination. A plausible chiral induction model for the enantioselectivity-determining step was established by detailed DFT calculations. Thioethers allowed for highly atroposelective C–H olefinations by a palladium/chiral phosphoric acid catalytic system under ambient air.![]()
