Abstract
As food packaging evolves, consumer interests are shifting from traditional to intelligent food packaging systems. Intelligent packaging includes active components that display changes in a visual or interactive form perceivable by consumers. This offers real-time monitoring of the quality and shelf life of the packaged food and enhances transparency. For example, pH-sensitive natural pigment-based films change color in response to variations in pH levels, enabling the film/labels to reflect alterations in the acidity or basicity of the food inside the package. Natural pigments like anthocyanins, curcumin, betalains, chlorophyll, and carotenoids have been comprehensively reported for developing biodegradable pH-sensitive films of starch, protein, chitosan, and cellulose. Natural pigments offer great compatibility with these biopolymers and improve the other performance parameters of the films. However, these films still lack the strength and versatility of petroleum-based synthetic plastic films. But these films can be used as an indicator and combined with primary packaging to monitor freshness, time-temperature, and leak for muscle foods, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, and bakery products. Therefore, this review provides a detailed overview of pH-sensitive pigments, their compatibility with natural polymers, their role in film performance in monitoring, and their food packaging applications.

Abstract
A microalbuminuria level acts as a good index to screen and monitor diabetes and renal failure. However, the urinary albumin loss after sample preservation and storage is the major bottleneck to obtain the accurate microalbuminuria test. Such loss is due to the rapid albumin fragmentation by urinary proteases. Some fragments were suggested to be bioactive biomarkers of diabetes and renal disease, but no structural and dynamical properties of albumin fragments are available. Thus, in this work, the structural and dynamical properties of reported albumin fragments are revealed using molecular dynamics simulations. The properties of nine fragments (F1-F9) discovered recently were studied at the real pH conditions of urine samples (pH 4.5, 7 and 8). The complete loss of secondary structure is found in short fragments (F1-F6), while large-sized polypeptides (F7-F9) can somehow maintain their folds. Especially, F8 (subdomain IIIB) is the most stable fragment. The difference in histidine protonation states has no impact on the structural stability of albumin fragments. The ability of F8 (subdomain IIIB) to maintain its stability and folds suggests it as an alternative albumin biomarker in urine. An insight obtained here will become the fundamental importance for understanding clinical assays for albumin detection, sample stability and peptidomics analysis of urine.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract
Lobeline (LOB), a naturally occurring alkaloid, has a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities and therapeutic potential, including applications in central nervous system disorders, drug misuse, multidrug resistance, smoking cessation, depression, and epilepsy. LOB represents a promising compound for developing treatments in various medical fields. However, despite extensive pharmacological profiling, the biophysical interaction between the LOB and proteins remains largely unexplored. In the current article, a range of complementary photophysical and cheminformatics methodologies were applied to study the interaction mechanism between LOB and the carrier protein HSA. Steady-state fluorescence and fluorescence lifetime experiments confirmed the static-quenching mechanisms in the HSA-LOB system. "K" (binding constant) of the HSA-LOB system was determined to be 105 M-1, with a single preferable binding site in HSA. The forces governing the HSA-LOB stable complex were analyzed by thermodynamic parameters and electrostatic contribution. The research also investigated how various metal ions affect complex binding. Site-specific binding studies depict Site I as probable binding in HSA by LOB. We conducted synchronous fluorescence, 3D fluorescence, and circular dichroism studies to explore the structural alteration occurring in the microenvironment of amino acids. To understand the robustness of the HSA-LOB complex, we used theoretical approaches, including molecular docking and MD simulations, and analyzed the principal component analysis and free energy landscape. These comprehensive studies of the structural features of biomolecules in ligand binding are of paramount importance for designing targeted drugs and delivery systems.

Abstract
Fibrillation of proteins is associated with a number of debilitating diseases, including various neurodegenerative disorders. Prevention of the protein fibrillation process is therefore of immense importance. We investigated the effect of amino acid-capped AuNPs on the prevention of the fibrillation process of human serum albumin (HSA), a model protein. Amino acid-capped AuNPs of varying sizes and agglomeration extents were synthesized under physiological conditions. The AuNPs were characterized by their characteristic surface plasmon resonance (SPR), and their interactions with HSA were investigated through emission spectroscopy in addition to circular dichroism (CD) spectral analyses. Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) as well as transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to observe the fibrillar network. Thermodynamic and kinetic analyses from CD and fluorescence emission spectra provided insights into the fibrillation pathway adopted by HSA in the presence of capped AuNPs. Kinetics of the fibrillation pathway followed by ThT fluorescence emission confirmed the sigmoidal nature of the process. The highest cooperativity was observed in the case of Asp-AuNPs with HSA. This was in accordance with the ΔG value obtained from the CD spectral analyses, where Arg-AuNPs with HSA showed the highest positive ΔG value and Asp-AuNPs with HSA showed the most negative ΔG value. The study provides information about the potential use of conjugate AuNPs to monitor the fibrillation process in proteins.

Abstract
Wedelolactone (WEL) is a small molecule compound isolated from Eclipta prostrate L., which has been reported to possess various biological activities such as anti-hepatotoxicity, anti-hypertension, anti-tumour, anti-phospholipase A2 and detoxification activity against snake venom. In the present study, we investigated the interaction of WEL with human serum albumin (HSA) using simultaneous fluorescence, UV-visible spectroscopy, 3D fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), molecular docking technique and molecular dynamics simulation. We found that the interaction between HSA and WEL can exhibit a static fluorescence burst mechanism, and the binding process is essentially spontaneous, with the main forces manifested as hydrogen bonding, van der Waals force and electrostatic interactions. Competitive binding and molecular docking studies showed that WEL preferentially bound to HSA in substructural region IIA (site I); molecular dynamics simulations showed that HSA interacted with WEL to form a stable complex, which also induced conformational changes in HSA. The study of the interaction between WEL and HSA can provide a reference for a more in-depth study of the pharmacodynamic mechanism of WEL and its further development and utilisation.

Abstract
Xanthine oxidase (XO) is a crucial target for hyperuricemia treatment(s). Naturally occurred XO inhibitors with minimal toxicity and high efficacy have attracted researchers' attention. With the goal of quickly identifying natural XO inhibitors, an integrated computational screening strategy was constructed by molecular docking and calculating the free energy of binding. Twenty-seven hits were achieved from a database containing 19,377 natural molecules. This includes fourteen known XO inhibitors and four firstly-reported inhibitors (isolicoflavonol, 5,7-dihydroxycoumarin, parvifolol D and clauszoline M, IC50 < 40 μM). Iolicoflavonol (hit 8, IC50 = 8.45 ± 0.68 μM) and 5,7-dihydroxycoumarin (hit 25, IC50 = 10.91 ± 0.71 μM) displayed the great potency as mixed-type inhibitors. Docking study and molecular dynamics simulation revealed that both hits could interact with XO's primarily active site residues ARG880, MOS1328, and ASN768 of XO. Fluorescence spectroscopy studies showed that hit 8 bound to the active cavity region of XO, causing changes in XO's conformation and hydrophobicity. Hits 8 and 25 exhibit favorable Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion (ADME) properties. Additionally, no cytotoxicity against human liver cells was observed at their median inhibition concentrations against XO. Therefore, the present study offers isolicoflavonol and 5,7-dihydroxycoumarin with the potential to be disease-modifying agents for hyperuricemia.

Abstract
S-isoalkyl derivatives of thiosalicylic acid (isopropyl-(L1), isobutyl-(L2) and isoamyl-(L3)) were selected in order to investigate the binding interaction with the human serum albumin (HSA) using different spectroscopic methods and molecular docking simulation. Association constants and number of binding sites were used to analyze the quenching mechanism. The experimental results showed that the fluorescence quenching of HSA by L1, L2 and L3 occurs because of static quenching and that binding processes were spontaneous, with the leading forces in bonding by hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions, and electrostatic interactions. Fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy and synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy showed that ligands (L1, L2 and L3) can bind to HSA and that the binding of ligands induced some microenvironmental and conformational changes in HSA. The calculated distance between the donor and the acceptor according to fiFörster's theory confirms the energy transfer efficiency between the acceptor and HSA. Results of site marker competitive experiments showed that the tested compounds bind to HSA in domain IIA (Site I). Molecular dynamics and docking calculations demonstrated that L3 binds to the Sudlow site I of HSA with lower values of binding energies compared to L1 and L2, indicating the formation of the most stable ligand-HSA complex. Understanding the binding mechanisms of S-isoalkyl derivatives of the thiosalicylic acid to HSA may provide valuable data for the future studies of their biological activity and application as potential antitumor drugs.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract
Hyperuricemia is characterized by elevated uric acid (UA) level in the body. The xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory ability is an important way to evaluate the anti-hyperuricemia effect of natural products. Ferulic acid (FA) is a phenolic acid compound, and it is a free radical scavenger with many physiological functions. The aim of this study was to investigate the structure-activity relationship, potential mechanism and interaction of FA as XO's inhibitor. In the cell experiment, using 1.25 mM adenosine to incubate for 24 h under the optimal conditions (37 °C, pH = 7.2) can increase the UA production by 1.34 folds. PCR analysis showed that FA could reduce the mRNA expression level of XO. FA inhibited XO in a mixed mode (IC50 = 13.25 μM). The fluorescence quenching of XO by FA occurs through a static mechanism, with an inhibition constant of Ki = 9.527 × 10-5 mol L-1 and an apparent coefficient of α = 1.768. The enthalpy and entropy changes were found as -267.79 KJ mol-1 and - 860.85 KJ mol-1, indicating that both hydrogen binding and hydrophobic are involved in the interaction of this polyphenolic natural compound with XO. Thus, FA supplementation may be a potential therapeutic strategy to improve hyperuricemia by reducing UA production.

Abstract
The activation of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling is crucial for initiating and coordinating the immune response against infections, and is proved as a vital target for inflammatory diseases. Herein, TLR4 with sufficient amount and functional activity was generated by heterologous expression and used to investigate the mechanism of apigenin (Api)/chrysin (Chr) inhibition of TLR4 activation. The results demonstrated that Api/Chr exhibited a strong fluorescence quenching effect through a static quenching and a high binding affinity (Ka > 105 L·mol-1) with TLR4, indicating the potential of Api/Chr as a TLR4 inhibitor. Additionally, the binding of Api/Chr induced a loose and unstable conformation of TLR4 with evidence like the decreased hydrophobicity of the tryptophan microenvironment, decreased α-helix content and increased free sulfhydryl content, resulting in reduced stability of the TLR4. The computer simulations revealed that Api/Chr occupied the myeloid differentiation factor 2 (MD-2) binding region, preventing MD-2 from binding to TLR4. Furthermore, the accuracy of the binding site between Api/Chr and TLR4 was confirmed through genetic mutations. Overall, the mechanism by which Api/Chr inhibited TLR4 activation was elucidated at the macroscopic and molecular levels, providing the worthful information concerning the future therapeutic application of Api/Chr as a natural TLR4 inhibitor.

Abstract
Tyrosinase plays an important role in melanin synthesis. Inhibition against tyrosinase activity has been extensively focused on for pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, and agricultural purpose. The inhibitory mechanism of scutellarein on tyrosinase was elaborated by coupling enzyme kinetics, multi-spectroscopy and computational simulation. Scutellarein remarkably inhibited tyrosinase activity with an IC50 value of 91 μM. Scutellarein reversibly inhibited tyrosinase in a competitive manner. Fluorescence quenching validated that interaction of scutellarein with tyrosinase occurred to form a complex with a binding constant of 6.11 × 104 M-1. Thermodynamic parameters suggested that scutellarein spontaneously bound with tyrosinase via hydrogen bond and van der Waals force. Three-dimensional fluorescence spectra and circular dichroism spectra revealed that scutellarein induced an obvious conformational change in tyrosinase. Molecular docking result predicted that scutellarein mainly bound with tyrosinase via Arg268 residue. Scutellarein effectively controlled the enzymatic browning of apple slices during storage. This research could give theoretical guiding significance in various application for tyrosinase inhibitors.

Abstract
Myricitrin is a natural polyhydroxy flavonoid and is mainly derived from the bark and leaves of the Chinese Bayberry tree (Myrica rubra). It has different pharmacological activities, including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antiviral, liver protection and cholagogue properties, and may be added to foods, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetic products for antioxidant purposes. In this study, the interaction mechanism between myricitrin and human serum albumin (HSA) was investigated using spectroscopic methods, molecular docking techniques, and molecular dynamic simulations. We showed that the HSA/myricitrin interaction exhibited a static fluorescence quenching mechanism, and that binding processes were spontaneous in nature, with the main forces exemplified by hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions, and electrostatic interactions. Fluorescence spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy, three-dimensional (3D) fluorescence spectroscopy, micro-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (micro-FTIR), and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy showed that myricitrin binding altered the HSA conformation to some extent. Competitive binding and molecular docking studies showed that the preferred binding of myricitrin on HSA was in the sub-structural domain IIA (Site I); molecular dynamic simulations revealed that myricitrin interacted with HSA to produce a well stabilized complex, and it also generated a conformational change in HSA. The antioxidant capacity of the HSA-myricitrin complex was reduced when compared with free myricitrin. The identification of HSA-myricitrin binding mechanisms provides valuable insights for the application of myricitrin to the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Abstract
The objective of the present study was to investigate the xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory effects of peptides purified and identified from round scad (Decapterus maruadsi) hydrolysates (RSHs). In this study, RSHs were obtained by using three proteases (neutrase, protamex and alcalase). Among them, the RSHs of 6-h hydrolysis by neutrase displayed the strongest XO inhibitory activity and had an abundance of small peptides (<500 Da). Four novel peptides were purified by immobilized metal affinity chromatography and identified by nano-high-performance liquid chromatography mass/mass spectrometry. Their amino acid sequences were KGFP (447.53 Da), FPSV (448.51 Da), FPFP (506.59 Da) and WPDGR (629.66 Da), respectively. Then the peptides were synthesized to evaluate their XO inhibitory activity. The results indicated that the peptides of both FPSV (5 mM) and FPFP (5 mM) exhibited higher XO inhibitory activity (22.61 ± 1.81% and 20.09 ± 2.41% respectively). Fluorescence spectra assay demonstrated that the fluorescence quenching mechanism of XO by these inhibitors (FPSV and FPFP) was a static quenching procedure. The study of inhibition kinetics suggested that the inhibition of both FPSV and FPFP was reversible, and the type of their inhibition was a mixed one. Molecular docking revealed the importance of π-π stacking between Phe residue (contained in peptides) and Phe914 (contained in the XO) in the XO inhibitory activity of the peptides.

Abstract
The inhibitory effects of delphinidin-3-O-galactoside (DG) on the activities of tyrosinase (EC 1.14.18.1) (TY) from the edible Agaricus bisporus mushroom were investigated by enzyme kinetics, multispectroscopic methods, and molecular docking. As a result, DG showed strong inhibition on TY with the IC50 of 34.14 × 10-6 mol L-1 . The inhibition mode of DG against TY was mixed type with α values of 5.09. The binding constant Ka and related thermodynamic parameters at the three different temperatures showed that the fluorescence quenching of TY by DG was static quenching. Synchronous fluorescence, three-dimensional fluorescence, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and circular dichroism spectroscopies confirmed that the conformation or microenvironment of the TY protein were changed after binding with DG. Molecular docking revealed that DG had strong binding affinity to TY through hydrogen bonding and van der Waals force, and the results were consistent with the fluorescence data. Our findings suggested that DG may be potential TY inhibitor.

Abstract
Polyphenols can inhibit the enzymatic browning in food, but their indistinct synergistic effect and conformational change have limited their applications. In this paper, the mixture of quercetin, cinnamic acid and ferulic acid (Group 11, KI = 0.239 mM) possessed a higher inhibition ability than quercetin (KI = 0.361 mM), which could promote the spontaneous binding process. The final Group 11-tyrosinase complex is more stable, and the hydrophobic effect is the major driving force during the binding process. Moreover, there is not a direct relationship between the destruction of secondary structures and catalytic activity of tyrosinase. The interaction between ferulic acid and tyrosinase could destroy the secondary structures of enzyme but it had little impact on the tyrosinase activity. Molecular docking suggested that three polyphenols from Group 11 have synergistic effect on tyrosinase. This study provides new perspectives about the development of tyrosinase inhibitors in food products.

Abstract
Acetylcholinesterase (AchE) serves as an important target for Alzheimer's disease. Salvia miltiorrhiza has been used to treat cardiovascular disease for hundreds of years. However, the interaction between S. miltiorrhiza and AchE is still inadequate. Herein, an integrated method including molecular docking and experimental studies was employed to investigate the interaction. Consequently, some components were screened as potent AchE inhibitors by in silico and in vitro. Among them, miltirone (MT) and salvianolic acid A (SAA) reversibly inhibited AchE in a mixed-competitive manner. Fluorescence data revealed that SAA and salvianolic acid C (SAC) strongly quenched the intrinsic fluorescence of AchE through a static quenching mechanism, and the binding was spontaneous and dominated by hydrophobic interaction inferred by the thermodynamic parameters. The synchronous and ANS-binding fluorescence spectra suggested that SAA and SAC could bind to the enzyme and induce its conformation changes of secondary structures, which was further confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectra. Meanwhile, molecular docking presented the probable binding modes of inhibitors to AchE and highlighted the key role of hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bonds for the stability of docking complex. These findings put more insights into understanding the interaction of S. miltiorrhiza chemicals and AchE, as well as Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract
Butein (3,4,2',4'-tetrahydroxychalcone) belongs to the chalcone family of flavonoids and possesses various biological activities. In this study, butein was synthesized through aldol condensation catalyzed by thionyl chloride (SOCl2)/ethyl alcohol (EtOH) for the first time. The optimal reaction conditions including the molar ratio of reactants, the dosage of catalyst, and the reaction time on the yield of product were investigated, and the straightforward strategy assembles the yield of butein up to 88%. Butein has been found to inhibit xanthine oxidase (XO) activity. Herein, the inhibitory mechanism of butein against XO was discussed in aspects of inhibition kinetic, fluorescence titration, synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy, and molecular docking. The inhibition kinetic analysis showed that butein possessed a stronger inhibition on XO in an irreversible competitive manner with IC50 value of 2.93 × 10-6 mol L-1. The results of fluorescence titrations and synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy indicated that butein was able to interact with XO at one binding site, and the fluorophores of XO were placed in a more hydrophobic environment with the addition of butein. Subsequently, the result of molecular docking between butein and XO protein revealed that butein formed hydrogen bonding with the amino acid residues located in the hydrophobic cavity of XO. All the results suggested that the inhibitory mechanism of butein on XO may be the insertion of butein into the active site occupying the catalytic center of XO to avoid the entrance of xanthine and inducing conformational changes in XO.

Abstract
Xanthine oxidase (XO) has emerged as an important target for gout. In our previous study, salvianolic acid C (SAC) was found to show potent XO inhibitory activity, whereas the interaction mechanism was still not clear. Herein, an integrated approach consisting of enzyme kinetics, multi-spectroscopic methods and molecular docking was employed to investigate the interaction between SAC and XO. Consequently, SAC exhibited a rapid and mixed-type inhibition of XO with IC50 of 5.84 ± 0.18 μM. The fluorescence data confirmed that SAC presented a strong fluorescence quenching effect through a static quenching procedure. The values of enthalpy change, entropy change and Gibbs free energy change indicated that their binding was spontaneous and driven mainly by hydrophobic interactions. Analysis of synchronous fluorescence, circular dichroism and fourier transform infrared spectra demonstrated that SAC induced conformational changes of the enzyme. Besides, further molecular docking revealed that SAC occupied the catalytic center resulting in the inhibition of XO activity. This study provides a comprehensive understanding on the interaction mechanism of SAC on XO.

Abstract
The influence of different morphologies of nanostructures on amyloid fibrillation has been investigated by monitoring the fibrillation of human serum albumin (HSA) in the presence of rod-, sphere-, flower-, and star-shaped copper oxide (CuO) nanostructures. The different morphologies of CuO have been synthesized from an aqueous solution-based precipitation method using various organic acids, viz., acetic acid, citric acid, and tartaric acid. The fibrillation process of HSA has been examined using various biophysical techniques, e.g., Thioflavin T fluorescence, Congo red binding studies through UV spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and fluorescence microscopy. The monolayer protein coverage on the CuO nanostructures has been established through DLS studies, and the well-fitted Langmuir isotherm model has been used to interpret the differential adsorption behavior of HSA molecules on the CuO nanostructures. The nanostar-shaped CuO, by virtue of their higher specific surface area (94.45 m2 g-1), presence of high indexed facets {211} and high positive surface charge potential (+16.2 mV at pH 7.0) was found to show the highest adsorption of the HSA monomers and thus was more competent to inhibit the formation of HSA fibrils compared to the other nanostructures of CuO.

Abstract
Flavones (e.g. baicalein and wogonin) extensively used worldwide in food preparation and traditional medicine. In this study, a systematically comparative study of their structure-activity relationships (SAR) on their interaction with BSA, antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity has been carried out by spectrometry, molecular docking and microcalorimetry. Our results show that the skeleton structure of flavones, the number of hydroxyl groups, the type of functional group, conjugated system and the steric hindrance may be responsible for their different biological activity. These findings not only would lay a scientific foundation for discovering and designing flavones-based food and drug, may also help us to understanding the structure-activity relationship between flavones at the molecular level.

Abstract
Rosmarinic acid (RA) is an importantly and naturally occurring polyphenol from plants of the mint family with potent biological activities. Here, the in vitro interaction of RA with bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been investigated using various biophysical approaches as well as molecular modeling methods, to ascertain its binding mechanism and conformational changes. The fluorescence results demonstrated that the fluorescence quenching of BSA by RA was mainly the result of the formation of a ground state BSA-RA complex, and BSA had one high affinity RA binding site with a binding constant of 4.18 × 10(4) mol L(-1) at 298 K. Analysis of thermodynamic parameters revealed that hydrophobic and hydrogen bond interactions were the dominant intermolecular force in the complex formation. The primary binding site of RA in BSA (site I) had been identified by site marker competitive experiments. The distance between RA and the tryptophan residue of BSA was evaluated at 3.12 nm based on Förster's theory of non-radiation energy transfer. The UV-vis absorption, synchronous fluorescence, three-dimensional fluorescence, 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra confirmed that the conformation and structure of BSA were altered in the presence of RA. Moreover, the nuclear magnetic spectroscopy showed that the aromatic groups of RA took part in the binding reaction during the BSA-RA complexation. In addition, the molecular picture of the interaction mechanism between BSA and RA at the atomic level was well examined by molecular docking and dynamics studies. In brief, RA can bind to BSA with noncovalent bonds in a relatively stable way, and these findings will be beneficial to the functional food research of RA.

Abstract
For low protein concentrations containing biological samples (in proteomics) and for non proteinaceous compound assays (in bioanalysis), there is a critical need for a simple, fast, and cost-effective protein enrichment or precipitation method. However, 2,2,2-trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is traditionally used for protein precipitation at ineffective concentrations for very low protein containing samples. It is hypothesized that response surface methodology, can be used to systematically identify the optimal TCA concentration for protein precipitation in a wider concentration range. To test this hypothesis, a central composite design is used to assess the effects of two factors (X1 = volume of aqueous solution of protein, and X2 = volume of TCA solution 6.1N) on the optical absorbance of the supernatant (Y1), and the percentage of protein precipitated (Y2). Using either bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a model protein or human urine (with 20 ppm protein content), 4% w/v (a saddle point) is the optimal concentration of the TCA solution for protein precipitation that is visualized by SDS-PAGE analysis. At this optimal concentration, the Y2-values range from 76.26 to 92.67% w/w for 0.016 to 2 mg/mL of BSA solution. It is also useful for protein enrichment and xenobiotic analysis in protein-free supernatant as applied to tenofovir (a model HIV microbicide). In these conditions, the limit of detection and limit of quantitation of tenofovir are respectively 0.0014 mg/mL and 0.0042 mg/mL. This optimal concentration of TCA provides optimal condition for protein purification and analysis of any xenobiotic compound like tenofovir.
