Abstract
The accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregates is found in the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients. Thus, numerous efforts have been made to develop chemical reagents capable of targeting Aβ peptides and controlling their aggregation. In particular, tunable coordination and photophysical properties of transition metal complexes, with variable oxidation and spin states on the metal centers, can be utilized to probe Aβ aggregates and alter their aggregation profiles. In this review, we illustrate some rational strategies for designing photoactivatable metal complexes as chemical sensors for Aβ peptides or modulators against their aggregation pathways, with some examples.

Abstract
A series of bidentate allene- and enyne-containing ligands have been synthesized and the photochemical properties of their rhenium(I) complexes have been studied. These complexes exhibit facile isomerization of the conjugated double bonds upon ambient light exposure. Simulations unveiled a very efficient intersystem crossing and the consequent key role of the triplet states in the observed photochemistry of these substrates upon rhenium(I) complexation.

Abstract
This paper describes the synthesis of an unprecedented oxo-bridged rheniumI/VII (Re) complex by treating Re2(CO)10 with a pyridyl-linked anthracene-based twisted π-conjugated ligand. The molecular structures of both the ligand and the complex are determined by analyzing IR, NMR, and HR-MS spectra and unequivocally determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Unlike previous observations, the complexation occurs uniquely to yield an unprecedented oxo-bridged ReI/VII complex. Such a complex is uncommon, and in most cases, Re(vii) appears as the ReO4- counter ion. The aggregation-induced emission (AIE) feature could have been achieved from this conformationally twisted ligand, but the emission of the ligand was quenched in the aggregated state. The complex exhibited solvatofluorochromic properties with a faint emission. The emission intensity significantly (∼6 times) increased in DMF after the addition of a water fraction of 90%, resulting in a bright orange emission. The AIE is mainly caused by restricted intramolecular rotation (RIR) and is supported by the polarity and viscosity effects. The nanoaggregate formation is captured by SEM, and DLS studies were used to determine the average particle size. After the complexation, the ligand becomes more rigid, and the RIR effect becomes prominent facilitating the AIE effect. The electron-rich aggregate's intense orange emission was used for the selective and sensitive detection of picric acid (PA) and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) at nanomolar levels amongst other nitroaromatics through emission quenching. The detailed mechanistic studies reveal the active role of dynamic quenching and complementary photo-induced electron transfer between the probe and TNT or PA. The easy electron transfer process from the electron-rich to the electron-poor system is confirmed by calculating the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy of the associated levels. The application is further extended for on-site PA and TNT detection by permeating the probe on a paper and detected at 10-3 M concentration with the naked eye. The PA/TNT detection efficiency is also confirmed by mixing PA or TNT with soil.

Abstract
Re(i) complexes bearing thermally reversible photochromic naphthopyran axial ligands undergo highly efficient, reversible phosphorescence quenching actuated by either visible or UV irradiation. The photoinduced quenching of the triplet metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (3MLCT) emission is interpreted based on changes in the relative energies of the excited states.

Abstract
The new cyrhetrenyl acylhydrazone [(CO)3 Re(η5 -C5 H4 )-C(O)-NH-N = C(CH3 )-(2-C4 H2 S-5-NO2 )] (E-CyAH) has been designed, synthesized and fully characterized to study the effect of having a cyrhetrenyl fragment (sensitizer) covalently bonded to an acylhydrazone moiety (switch), on its photophysical and photochemical properties. The crystal structure reveals that E-CyAH adopts an E-configuration around the iminic moiety [-N = C(CH3 )]. The absorption spectrum of E-CyAH displays two bands at 270 and 380 nm, which are mainly ascribed to π → π* intraligand (IL) and dπ → π* metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transitions, being consistent with DFT/TD-DFT calculations. Upon 365 nm irradiation, E-CyAH photoisomerizes to Z-CyAH, as evidenced by UV-Vis and 1 H-NMR spectral changes, with a quantum yield value ΦE -CyAH → Z -CyAH of 0.30. Z-CyAH undergoes a first-order thermal back-isomerization process, with a relatively short half-life τ1/2 of 277 min. Consequently, E-CyAH was quantitatively recovered after 24 h, making it a fully reversible T-type molecular photoswitch. This remarkable behavior allows us to measure the individual photophysical properties for both isomers. In addition, E-CyAH and Z-CyAH efficiently photosensitize the generation of singlet oxygen (O2 (1 Δg )) with good yield (ΦΔ = 0.342).

Abstract
The interaction of two neutral alkoxy bridged binuclear rhenium(I) complexes, 1 and 2 [{Re(CO)3(1,4-NVP)}2(μ2-OR)2] (1, R = C4H9; 2, R = C10H21; 1,4-NVP = 4-(1-naphthylvinyl)pyridine] with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) is investigated. UV-vis absorption, emission, 1H NMR spectral titrations, TCSPC lifetime studies and DFT theoretical calculations were carried out to examine the binding responses of complexes 1 and 2 with various PAHs such as pyrene, naphthalene, anthracene and phenanthrene. The UV-Vis absorption spectra showed an increase in absorbance of the metal-to ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) and ligand centered (LC) bands upon addition of various PAH molecules to 1 and 2, whereas the emission behavior was found to show emission quenching, which might occur through energy transfer pathway. The binding constants (K) of complexes 1 and 2 for various PAHs are found to be in the order of 104 M-1 with a 1:1 binding mode, as determined from UV-vis absorption and emission spectral titration studies. 1H NMR spectral studies show that the chemical shifts of pyrene guest and the 1,4-NVP moiety of 2 are shifted up-field, whilst the alkoxy protons do not show any appreciable change in their chemical shifts. It is believed that the open cavities present in the Re(I) complexes may lead to the recognition of PAHs via CH···π interaction.

Abstract
The charge transfer and photophysics in a new light-emitting cocrystal with ribbon-like morphology are revealed in-depth. These cocrystals can serve as an efficient 1D optical waveguide, and the cocrystal waveguide couplers fabricated by a probe-assisted crystal-moving technique exhibit interfacial white emission and can function as basic photonic logic gates, showing potential for future integrated photonics.

Abstract
Rhenium(i) tricarbonyl complexes of a range of bidentate, bis-bidentate and tridentate NHC ligands have been prepared. These NHC ligands are of interest for possible applications in the development of Tc-99m or Re-186/188 radiopharmaceuticals and the stability of two complexes were evaluated in ligand challenge experiments using the metal binding amino acids l-histidine or l-cysteine.

Abstract
Aggregation of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide has been known to be pathologically associated with Alzheimer and dementia diseases. Amyloid-β fibrils serve as an important target for the drugs development and diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. Herein, we report a new [Ru(dmbpy)(dcbpy)dppz)] complex (dmbpy; 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine, dcbpy; 4,4'-dicorboxy-2,2'-bipyridine, dppz; dipyridophenazine) intercalated aptamer based recognition of amyloid-β. Interestingly, aforementioned Ru(II) complex shows weak luminescence intensity in the aqueous medium but it shows strong luminescence intensity in the presence of RNA aptamer. Upon addition of amyloid-β monomers, the luminescence intensity of Ru(II) complex is reduced due to the strong interaction of aptamer with amyloid-β monomer/small oligomers. Furthermore, present study implies that our system has ability to inhibit the formation of amyloid-β fibrils, which is confirmed from the AFM morphological structures in the absence and presence of aptamer. This work may contribute the rapid diagnosis and inhibition of amyloid-β aggregation in the clinical applications.
