Abstract
We reported the synthesis of a series of structurally diverse CPL-active molecules, in which pyrene units were installed to chiral pm/po-[2,2]PCP scaffolds either with or without a triple bond spacer for pm/po-PCP-P1 and pm/po-PCP-P2, respectively. The X-ray crystallographic analyses revealed that these pyrene-based [2,2]PCP derivatives exhibited diverse structures and crystal packings in the solid phases. The pyrene-based [2,2]PCP derivatives exhibit various (chir)optical properties in organic solutions, depending on their respective structures. In a mixture of dioxane and water, pm/po-PCP-P1 emit green excimer fluorescence, whereas pm/po-PCP-P2 emit blue one. The chiroptical investigation demonstrated that Rp-pm-PCP-P1 and Rp-pm-PCP-P2 exhibited completely opposite CD and CPL signals even they possess the same chiral Rp-[2,2]PCP core. The same argument also holds for other chiral pyrene-based [2,2]PCP derivatives. The theoretical calculation revealed that these unusual phenomena were attributed to different orientation between transition electric dipole moments and the magnetic dipole moments originating from the presence or absence of a triple bond spacer. These pyrene-based [2,2]PCP derivatives display various colours and fluorescence emissions in the solid state and PMMA films, possibly due to the different packings as observed in the crystal structure. Moreover, these compounds also can interact with perylene diimide through π-π interactions, leading to near-white fluorescence.

Abstract
Organic compounds showing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) are at the forefront of novel applications and technologies. Here we show the synthesis and chiroptical properties of pyrene and perylene derivatives of inexpensive chiral scaffolds: isomannide and isosorbide. Low‐intensity ECD spectra were obtained, suggesting the absence of chromophore interaction in the ground state, except in the case of isomannide bis‐perylenecarboxylate, whose ECD spectrum showed a positive exciton couplet. All isomannide derivatives, with the only exception of the one containing a pyrenecarboxylate and a perylenecarboxylate, exhibited excimer CPL spectra, whereas isosorbide derivatives did not show any CPL. Isomannide derivatives bearing two pyrenecarboxylate or two pyrenylacetate groups showed positive CPL emission with dissymmetry factors up to 10−2, which depends on the conformational freedom of the appended units. The CPL sign, Stokes shift and order of magnitude of dissymmetry factor were reproduced by excited‐state calculations on a representative compound. Interestingly, the mixed derivative containing pyrenic units with different spacing from the isomannide scaffold showed an oppositely signed excimer band with respect to the homo‐substituted derivatives.

Abstract
We developed novel room-temperature stimuli-responsive N-heteroacene-based liquid materials bearing a chiral alkyl chain. When these liquid materials were exposed to HCl vapor as an external stimulus, a disordered-ordered state change occurred immediately to yield self-assembled solid states from fluidic liquids. The self-assembly mechanism during this state change was evaluated by experimental in situ observations and molecular dynamics simulations over various spatiotemporal scales. These self-assembled structures led to supramolecular chirality through the influence of the chiral alkyl chain. As a result, circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) was triggered in the solid state, which was absent in the precursor liquid, thereby rendering this the first report on a stimuli-responsive CPL on/off liquid material. In addition, the initial state was recovered by exposure to air or upon heating. Moreover, the synergy between the experimental and the theoretical studies opens a new avenue to develop a novel class of stimuli-responsive materials and to discover novel phenomena in such materials.

Abstract
Here, we designed symmetric and dissymmetric chiral V-shaped pyrenes by linking achiral pyrenes to trans-1,2-cyclohexane diamine scaffolds with varied spacers to investigate their circular dichroism (CD) and circularly polarized excimer emission (CPEE). In molecular solution, the symmetric V-shaped molecules (P1, P2, P3) displayed spacer-dependent CD and CPEE originating from the intramolecular excimers while the dissymmetric V-shaped B was silent in CD and CPEE. Upon self-assembly, the chiral V-shaped conformation guided a helical hexagonal packing. Notably, P1 self-assembled into delicate superhelices with optimum chiroptical activities and the largest gCD for pyrene derivatives to date. The dissymmetric B formed two distinct hexagonal aggregates as twists and rectangular nanotubes with greatly amplified CPEE. This work demonstrates unprecedented hexagonal superhelices from chiral V-shaped scaffolds and provides a deep insight into the relationship between molecular conformation, supramolecular architectures, and their chiroptical performance.

Abstract
We here disclose two triarylborane-based [7]helicenes, which contain a dimesitylboryl or a 2-(dimesitylboryl)phenyl at position 9 of the [7]helicene skeleton. The change in the peripheral substituent from dimesitylboryl to 2-(dimesitylboryl)phenyl induced doubling of |glum| and sign inversion of the circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The substituent dependence of the CPL sign is reasonably explained by the propeller configuration flipping of boron, which has a significant influence on the chiroptical properties.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has attracted significant attention in the fields of chiral photonic science and optoelectronic materials science. In a CPL-emitting system, a chiral luminophore derived from chiral molecules is usually essential. In this review, three non-classical CPL (NC-CPL) systems that do not use enantiomerically pure molecules are reported: (i) supramolecular organic luminophores composed of achiral organic molecules that can emit CPL without the use of any chiral auxiliaries, (ii) achiral or racemic luminophores that can emit magnetic CPL (MCPL) by applying an external magnetic field of 1.6 T, and (iii) circular dichroism-silent organic luminophores that can emit CPL in the photoexcited state as a cryptochiral CPL system.

Abstract
Pyrene-based chiral ligands (LR and LS) consisting of two chiral imidazole sidearms at the 1,8-positions first form pyrene-bridged oligomers [(L(R or S))3(Zn2+)n], which are chiroptically inactive, with a low concentration of zinc ions (Zn2+). Upon addition of more Zn2+, chiroptically active coordination helicates ([(L(R or S))3(Zn2+)2]) are formed. The stepwise assembly process successfully facilitated an "off-off-on" chiroptical switching process of a pyrene luminophore controlled by the concentration of Zn2+. The resulting pyrene-bridged helicates exhibit high performance in terms of a dissymmetry factor of circular dichroism (|gCD| = 0.006) and circularly polarized luminescence (|gCPL| = 0.01).

Abstract
We investigated whether semi-rigid and non-rigid π-conjugated fluorophores in the photoexcited (S1) and ground (S0) states exhibited mirror symmetry by circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy using a range of compounds dissolved in achiral liquids. The fluorophores tested were six perylenes, six scintillators, 11 coumarins, two pyrromethene difluoroborates (BODIPYs), rhodamine B (RhB), and 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM). All the fluorophores showed negative-sign CPL signals in the ultraviolet (UV)–visible region, suggesting energetically non-equivalent and non-mirror image structures in the S1 state. The dissymmetry ratio of the CPL (glum) increased discontinuously from approximately −0.2 × 10−3 to −2.0 × 10−3, as the viscosity of the liquids increased. Among these liquids, C2-symmetrical stilbene 420 showed glum ≈ −0.5 × 10−3 at 408 nm in H2O and D2O, while, in a viscous alkanediol, the signal was amplified to glum ≈ −2.0 × 10−3. Moreover, BODIPYs, RhB, and DCM in the S0 states revealed weak (−)-sign CD signals with dissymmetry ratios (gabs) ≈ −1.4 × 10−5 at λmax/λext. The origin of the (−)-sign CPL and the (−)-sign CD signals may arise from an electroweak charge at the polyatomic level. Our CPL and CD spectral analysis could be a possible answer to the molecular parity violation hypothesis based on a weak neutral current of Z0 boson origin that could connect to the origin of biomolecular handedness.

Abstract
A new strategy to manipulate the circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) handedness in chiral emitters, based on modulating the population of an emissive ICT state, is proposed. Such a strategy is particularly interesting for conformationally rigid and non-aggregating chiral organic emitters, opening up new perspectives for the development of CPL applications based on organic molecules.

Abstract
Both enantiomers of axially chiral bis(dinaphthofuran) were prepared in only two steps from 1'-hydroxy-4'-methoxy-2,2'-binaphthalenyl-1,4-dione, followed by optical resolution via high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a chiral stationary phase (CSP). The absolute configurations were determined by comparison of experimental and calculated vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra. Synthetic bis(dinaphthofuran) exhibited a broad and unstructured emission derived from an intramolecular excimer in both solution and solid state. The methylene bridge brings both chromophores close to each other and induces significant changes in the photophysical behavior. Chiral bis(dinaphthofuran) displayed a bathochromic shift in emission, as compared to the racemic mixture in the solid state. Furthermore, the compounds showed high circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) with a dissymmetry factor ( glum) of 10-3 at 405 nm upon excitation at 265 nm in a methanol solution. This compound serves as a model for the design and synthesis of organic materials having CPL activity.

Abstract
A series of chiral fluorescent macrocycles display a remarkable combination of both +/– ECD and strong on/off CPL reversible switching upon cation binding and displacement.
Straightforward synthesis and resolution of a series of chiral fluorescent macrocycles are presented, together with their electronic circular dichroism (ECD), strong excimer fluorescence (EF, λ 300 to 650 nm) and allied highly circularly polarized luminescence (CPL, glum up to 1.7 × 10–2). The ECD, EF and CPL responses are strongly affected by the presence of metal ions (Na+, Ba2+) thanks to deep conformational changes. While ECD signals can be almost completely reversibly inverted upon the complexation/decomplexation of metal ions in a typical binary response, CPL signals are reversibly quenched concomitantly. The designed macrocycles display thus a remarkable combination of both +/– ECD and on/off CPL reversible switching.

Abstract
![]()
In
this manuscript, we report the first synthesis of an organic
monomolecular emitter, which behaves as a circularly polarized luminescence
(CPL)-based ratiometric probe. The enantiopure helical ortho-oligo(phenylene)ethynylene (o-OPE) core has been
prepared by a new and efficient macrocyclization reaction. The combination
of such o-OPE helical skeleton and a pyrene couple
leads to two different CPL emission features in a single structure
whose ratio linearly responds to silver(I) concentration.

Abstract
Simple organic molecules (SOM) based on bis(haloBODIPY) are shown to enable circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), giving rise to a new structural design for technologically valuable CPL-SOMs. The established design comprises together synthetic accessibility, labile helicity, possibility of reversing the handedness of the circularly polarized emission, and reactive functional groups, making it unique and attractive as advantageous platform for the development of smart CPL-SOMs.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence, or CPL, is a luminescence phenomenon that provides the differential emission intensity of right and left circularly polarized light, thereby providing information on the excited state properties of the chiral molecular systems. In recent years, there has been a growing interest toward the development of organic chromophores capable of circularly polarized emission due to their potential applications in sensors, asymmetric synthesis as well as display and optical storage devices. The major drawback with organic molecules is the low dissymmetric factors exhibited by these systems. One of the recent strategies adopted for the improvement in luminescence dissymmetry of organic systems is through the controlled self-assembly of chromophores. In this Perspective, we highlight the recent experimental and theoretical developments in the field of chiral organic chromophoric systems and their self-assembly, that has produced promising results toward the enhancement of glum values in CPL.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescent properties of binaphthyl with two achiral anthracenes were tuned by exploiting photoexcited-state chirality transfer from the binaphthyl to anthracenes when open- or closed-type binaphthyl structure was chosen.

Abstract
Among l- and d-oligopeptides with multiple pyrenes as pendants, the dipeptides with two and three pyrenes showed blue-coloured circularly polarised luminescence as high as |gem| ≈ (0.86−1.1) × 10−2 at around 450 nm, reflecting from exciton couplets of twisted pyrenes.
