Abstract
Polyacetylene glycosides (PAGs) constitute a relatively small class of secondary metabolites characterized by the presence of a sugar unit anomerically connected to a polyacetylene. These compounds are found in fungi, seaweed, and more often in plants. PAGs exhibit a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities and, as a result, the literature of these compounds has grown exponentially in recent years.

Abstract
Water hemlock (Cicuta douglasii) is one of the most toxic plants to livestock and humans. Little is known regarding the amount of plant required to cause death. The objective of this study was to determine a lethal dose of water hemlock in a goat model. Plants were dosed to goats via oral gavage of freeze-dried ground plant material. The results from this study suggest that 1-2 fresh tubers would be lethal to goats.

Abstract
![]()
FR252921, FR252922,
and FR256523 are a family of potent macrocyclic
polyene immunosuppressive agents with a novel mode of action. However,
the lack of an efficient and flexible synthesis has hindered further
biological studies, mostly due to the fact that the natural products
appear to be kinetic isomers regarding the triene moiety. Herein,
we report the development and application of an unprecedented, unique
domino Suzuki–Miyaura/4π-electrocyclic ring-opening macrocyclization,
resulting in a concise, unified, and stereoselective synthetic route
to these complex targets in only 10 steps. This in turn enables ready
access to a range of unnatural analogues, among which several compounds
showed inhibition of T-lymphocyte proliferation at levels equal or
superior to those of the natural products themselves.

Abstract
A transition metal-free one-pot stereoselective approach to substituted (E,Z)-1,3-dienes was developed by using an interrupted Pummerer reaction/ligand-coupling strategy. Readily available benzothiophene S-oxides, which can be conveniently prepared by oxidation of the parent benzothiophenes, undergo Pummerer coupling with styrenes. Reaction of the resultant sulfonium salts with alkyllithium/magnesium reagents generates underexploited hypervalent sulfurane intermediates that undergo selective ligand coupling, resulting in dismantling of the benzothiophene motif and the formation of decorated (E,Z)-1,3-dienes.

Abstract
A computational study of the electrocyclic ring-opening of 2-substituted cyclobutenecarboxylic acids is presented. Detailed calculations suggest a model to predict whether the product of nucleophilic alkylation of a bicyclic lactone electrophile will be a cyclobutenecarboxylic acid or its dienoic acid isomer, based on the used nucleophile.
