Long-range magnetic ordering in a metal-organic framework based on octanuclear nickel(ii) clusters

Green Preparation of Antimicrobial 1D-Coordination Polymers: [Zn(4,4'-bipy)Cl2]∞ and [Zn(4,4'-bipy)2(OAc)2]∞ by Ultrasonication of Zn(II) Salts and 4,4'-Bipyridine

We report on the green preparation of one-dimensional metal coordination polymers by sonochemical approach. The spacer ligand 4,4'-bipyridine was ultrasonicated with chloride or acetate zinc salts to obtain [Zn(4,4'-bipy)Cl₂]_∞ and [Zn(4,4'-bipy)₂(OAc)₂]_∞, respectively. Benign solvents such as ethanol and water were selected as reaction media, and the synthesis took place in a few minutes-a very short time compared to conventional methods where some days' synthesis is required. X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis (thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry), and CHN techniques investigated the influence of using different reaction solvents on the chemical, structural, and thermal properties of the final products. The 1D [Zn(4,4'-bipy)Cl₂]_∞ and [Zn(4,4'-bipy)₂(OAc)₂]_∞ polymers, in agreement with the structures reported in the literature, were obtained in the form of nanocrystals with an average crystal size around 100 nm. As a proof of concept, a set of Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae), and three yeast strains (Candida albicans, Candida krusei, Candida glabrata) were tested to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the coordination polymers, following the Kirby-Bauer procedure and microplate dilution method. Thus, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and minimal biofilm inhibitory concentration (MBIC) were evaluated. Except for Candida krusei, the compounds showed an appreciable antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity against these strains grown in the liquid medium.

Self-assembly of a nonanuclear NiII cluster via atmospheric CO2 fixation: synthesis, structure, collision-induced dissociation mass spectrometry and magnetic property

A novel nonanuclear nickel(ii) cluster identified as [Ni9(OH)6(CO3)2(ba)8(Hdmpz)6(DMF)2]·EtOH·2DMF (SD/Ni9a, Hba = benzoic acid, Hdmpz = 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole) is successfully constructed from mixed ligands. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) structural analysis confirms the composition and reveals the "drum-like" inner core structure surrounded by ba- and DMF. Six Hdmpz ligands in their neutral form further sandwich the "drum" up and down, and is hydrogen bonded with two carbonate anions that are derived from the atmospheric CO2 with the help of Et3N. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) reveals that the SD/Ni9a maintains an intact core in the solution with a slight exchange of outer ligands. Detailed collision-induced dissociation (CID) experiments reveal the collision energy (CE)-promoted ligand loss and exchange between ba- and Hdmpz. Furthermore, the magnetic study shows that there is no interaction between the Ni centers at room temperature, whereas the ferromagnetic coupling between the Ni centers is found with an S = 3 spin ground state of the cluster at low temperature. Moreover, the UV-vis spectrum and the photocurrent response measurements show its good optical properties with an indirect bandgap of about 2.35 eV and fast current response upon visible light irradiation.

Structure, optical and magnetic properties of a novel homometallic coordination polymers: Experimental and Computational studies

Single crystal of 1D homometallic coordination polymer involving cobalt metal ion and P₂Mo₅ Strandberg type polyoxometallate cluster (C₆H₁₀N₂)₂[Co(H₂O)₄P₂Mo₅O₂₃].6H₂O, is prepared in aqueous solution and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis diffuse reflectance, fluorescence and magnetism. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that this compound crystallizes in the triclinic system with space group P \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$\,\bar{1}$$\end{document}1¯. The 3-(ammoniomethyl)pyridine C₆H₈N₂ organic fragment is used merely as stabilizer for the promotion of topological structure. DRS data indicate that the synthesized material can be identified as a ferromagnetic semiconductor with optical bands gaps energy of 1.81 and 2.74 eV, respectively. The large value of refractive index observed in the visible region make the simple a promising candidate for visible optical communication devices and fluorescent emisson result provides that the complex belongs to a blue luminescent compounds. Moreover, magnetic measurements and electronic structure calculations show that P₂Mo₅ Strandberg polyoxoanion can be reported as a new class of ligand that is candidate to construct metal-inorganic framworks with long distance ferromagnetic superechange between Co(II) centers. The evidence from this study suggests that the syntesized polymer can become a great multifunctional material openning the door for the developpement of new coordination polymers based on Strandberg type polyxoxmetalate with potential applications.

C9H5AgO6, triclinic, P1̄ (no. 2), a = 3.7933(5) Å, b = 7.6762(11) Å, c = 15.534(2) Å, α = 79.109(2)°, β = 89.864(2)°, γ = 78.122(2)°, V = 434.35(10) Å3, Z = 2, R gt(F) = 0.0302, wR ref(F 2) = 0.0650, T = 296(2) K.

Four 3D coordination polymers based on layers with single syn-anti carboxylate bridges: synthesis, structures, and magnetic properties

Four novel coordination polymers (CPs) based on a new 4-(3,5-dicarboxylphenyl) picolinic acid ligands (H₃L), [M₃(L)₂(H₂O)₆]·4H₂O (M₃ = Mn₃, 1; Co₃, 2; Ni₃, 3, Co_1.01Ni_1.99, 4), have been hydrothermally synthesized, and structurally and magnetically characterized. In these isomorphous CPs, octahedrally coordinated metal ions are linked by the single syn–anti carboxylate bridge (μ-COO) to give linear trinuclear motifs. The motifs are connected through the other single syn–anti carboxylate bridge (μ-COO) to give a 2D (4,4) layer, and the layers are interlinked by the L ligands into 3D frameworks. Magnetic measurement indicates that antiferromagnetic interactions between metal ions are mediated through the single syn–anti carboxylate bridges in 1 and 2, while the same carboxylate bridges in 3 transmit ferromagnetic couplings. The bimetallic CP 4 shows interesting complicated magnetic behaviors due to the competition effect of Co(ii) and Ni(ii) ions.

Four 3D carboxylate-bridged metal(II) compounds were prepared. Mn(II) and Co(II) compounds show AFM interactions, while FM coupling is found in Ni(II) compound. The bimetallic shows interesting competition effect of FM and AFM interactions.
