Abstract
A Ru-catalyzed acceptorless dehydrogenative multicomponent reaction has been developed. This reaction offers a cost-effective and simple operational strategy to synthesize biologically active 1,8-dioxodecahydroacridine derivatives. The protocol provides a wide range of substrate scope and various functional groups are also well tolerated under the reaction condition. To shed light on the mechanistic and kinetic study, some controlled experiments and deuterium labeling experiments were executed. A time-dependent product distribution experiment is also presented and the reaction scale-up is performed to highlight the practical utility of this strategy.

Abstract
Saponin, as a green and available phytochemical, was immobilized on the surface of magnetite nanoparticles then doped with Cu ions (Fe3O4@Sap/Cu(ii)) and used as an efficient nanocatalyst for the synthesis of quinazoline and acridine derivatives, due to their high application and importance in various fields of science. Different spectroscopic and microscopic techniques were used for the catalyst characterization such as FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDX, TEM, TGA, VSM, BET, DLS, CV, and XPS analyses. All characterization data were correlated with each other so that the structure of the catalyst was accurately characterized. The reactions were performed in the presence of a low amount of Fe3O4@Sap/Cu(ii) (0.42 mol%) as a green catalyst in water over a short period of time. The results show well the effective role of saponin in solving the problem of mass transfer in aqueous medium, which is the challenge of many organic reactions in aqueous medium and in the presence of heterogeneous medium. High catalytic activity was found for the catalyst and high to excellent efficiency was obtained for all quinazoline (68–94% yield) and acridine (66–97% yield) derivatives in short reaction times (less than 1 hour) under mild reaction conditions in the absence of any hazardous or expensive materials. There is not any noticeable by-product found whether for acridine or quinazoline derivatives, which reflects the high selectivity. Two reasonable mechanisms were proposed for the reactions based on observations from control experiments as well as literature reports. The catalyst could be easily recovered magnetically for at least six consecutive runs with insignificant reactivity loss. A highly efficient, robust, and green protocol has been developed for the synthesis of acridine and quinazoline derivatives in water under mild reaction conditions using a Fe3O4@Sap/Cu(ii) nanocomposite as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst.![]()

Abstract
A new multifunctional dendritic nanocatalyst containing boric acid and 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxyethyl)isocyanurate covalently attached to core-shell silica-coated magnetite (Fe3O4@SiO2@PTS-THEIC-(CH2)3OB(OH)2) was designed and properly characterized by different spectroscopic or microscopic methods as well as analytical techniques used for mesoporous materials. It was found that the combination of both aromatic π-π stacking and boron-oxygen ligand interactions affords supramolecular arrays of dendrons. Furthermore, the use of boric acid makes this dendritic catalyst a good choice, from corrosion, recyclability and cost points of view. The catalytic activity of Fe3O4@SiO2@PTS-THEIC-(CH2)3OB(OH)2, as an efficient magnetically recoverable catalyst, was investigated for the synthesis of polyhydroacridines (PHAs) as well as polyhydroquinolines (PHQs) via one-pot multicomponent reactions of dimedone and/or ethyl acetoacetate, different aldehydes and ammonium acetate in EtOH under reflux conditions. Very low loading of the catalyst, high to quantitative yields of the desired PHAs or PHQs products, short reaction times, wide scope of the substrates, eliminating any toxic heavy metals or corrosive reagents for the modification of the catalyst, and simple work-up procedure are remarkable advantages of this green protocol. An additional advantage of this magnetic nanoparticles catalyst is its ability to be separated and recycled easily from the reaction mixture with minimal efforts in six subsequent runs without significant loss of its catalytic activity. This magnetic and dendritic catalyst can be extended to new two- and three-dimensional covalent organic frameworks with different applications.

Abstract
In this work, a novel catalytic system for facilitating the organic multicomponent synthesis of 9-phenyl hexahydroacridine pharmaceutical derivatives is reported. Concisely, this catalyst was constructed from acacia gum (gum arabic) as a natural polymeric base, iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs), and sulfone functional groups on the surface as the main active catalytic sites. Herein, a convenient preparation method for this nanoscale composite is introduced. Then, essential characterization methods such as various spectroscopic analyses and electron microscopy (EM) were performed on the fabricated nano-powder. The thermal stability and magnetic properties were also precisely monitored via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM) methods. Then, the performance of the presented catalytic system (Fe3O4@acacia-SO3H) was further investigated in the referred organic reaction by using various derivatives of the components involved in the reaction. Optimization, mechanistic studies, and reusability screening were carried out for this efficient catalyst as well. Overall, remarkable reaction yields (94%) were obtained for the various produced derivatives of 9-phenyl hexahydroacridine in the indicated optimal conditions.

Abstract
Heterocycles have been found to be of much importance as several nitrogen- and oxygen-containing heterocycle compounds exist amongst the various USFDA-approved drugs. Because of the advancement of nanotechnology, nanocatalysis has found abundant applications in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Numerous nanoparticles (NPs) have been utilized for several organic transformations, which led us to make dedicated efforts for the complete coverage of applications of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) in the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds reported from 2010 to 2019. Our emphasize during the coverage of catalyzed reactions of the various MNPs such as Ag, Au, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Si, Ti, and Zn has not only been on nanoparticles catalyzed synthetic transformations for the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds, but also provide an inherent framework for the reader to select a suitable catalytic system of interest for the synthesis of desired heterocyclic scaffold.

Abstract
Urease, a nickel-dependent enzyme, has a powerful catalytic activity to decompose urea into ammonia via hydrolysis reaction under mild condition. In the present work, urease was employed for the synthesis of two series of polyhydroquinoline and polyhydroacridine derivatives via one-pot condensation of the ammonia generated in situ from urea, aryl aldehydes, and dimedone or ethyl acetoacetate (i.e., Hantzsch-type reaction) in water under mild green condition. The valuable features of this enzymatic method are mild reaction conditions, short reaction times, wide substrate toleration, and high yield of products. The present work provides a novel enzymatic catalysis to synthesize polyhydroquinolines and polyhydroacridines and expands the application of urease in organic synthesis.

Abstract
A new nano-ordered 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate-1,3-propylene covalently functionalized MCM-41 (MCM-41-Pr-THEIC) was designed and prepared at room temperature through a simple procedure. According to various microscopic, spectroscopic, or thermal methods and techniques, the correlation of the catalytic performance of the hybrid mesoporous MCM-41-Pr-THEIC to its structural characteristics was fully confirmed. The new MCM-41-Pr-THEIC organosilica nanomaterials were successfully investigated as a solid mild nanocatalyst through hydrogen-bonding activation provided by its organic moiety, for the pseudo-four-component condensation of dimedone, aldehydes, and ammonium acetate or p-toluidine to afford the corresponding acridinedione derivatives under green conditions. Furthermore, the introduced nanocatalyst could be reused at least four times with negligible loss of its activity, indicating the good stability and high activity of the new hybrid organosilica.

Kilbas B, Ergen S, Cakici D. Highly Efficient and Reusable Pd/AlO(OH) Catalyzed Synthesis of Acridinedione Derivatives. CURRENT ORGANOCATALYSIS 2019. [DOI: 10.2174/2213337206666190701130253] [Citation(s) in RCA: 4] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.8] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 02/02/2023]
Abstract
Background:
Synthesis of acridinedione derivatives via one-pot multi-component approaches
using highly active and reusable Pd/AlO(OH) heterogenous catalyst was studied. This process
provided a convenient method to obtain various acridinediones with potential biological activities.
The reactions were performed in mild conditions such as low temperature and short reaction
time with desirable yields.
Methods:
Commercially available Pd/AlO(OH) nanoparticles characterized by XRD and SEM methods
were afforded for the synthesis of acridinedione derivatives with high yields. Crude products
were analyzed by GC and 1H NMR. The reactions were completed within 1h at 40°C by the assistance
of ultrasound system.
Results:
Optimization of reaction conditions is of critical case for successful synthesis. Solvent, temperature,
time and amount of catalyst were studied. At the end of the experiments, the synthesis of 1
mmol of acridinedione was optimized by using 25 mg of Pd/AlO(OH) NPs, 3 ml of DMF for 60 min
at 40°C in the ultrasound system. An experimental work to check the reusability of the catalyst was
also studied. Pd/Al(O)OH catalyst in the first run was higher than that of the reused catalyst in the
fifth run. ICP-OES analyses showed palladium leaching into the reaction medium was only 1.1%
which is negligible. Nanocatalyst employed a high activity and good reusability.
Conclusion:
A convenient and versatile method was developed for the synthesis of acridinediones in
a mild condition with absolute conversion and high yield using ultrasound system in the presence of
nanocatalyst.
