Abstract
A mild and metal-free approach has been developed for 1,2-difunctionalization of aryne using sulfenamides as a nucleophile and a halogen source (CX4) as an electrophile to synthesize S-(o-halo)aryl sulfilimines. The late-stage functionalizations of halide handles via Suzuki-Miyaura and Buchwald-Hartwig reactions exhibit the synthetic utilities of the products. The chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, rapidity, and use of economical CCl4 are the advantages of this protocol.

Abstract
An iridium-catalyzed and phenol-directed deoxygenation of benzylic alcohols comes as an alternative access to 4-alkylphenols, featuring low catalyst loading (S/C up to 20,000, TOF up to 12,400 h-1), high functionality compatibility, and excellent site-selectivity. The applications in late-stage modification of steroids and gram-scale total synthesis of a Gastrodia elata extract are highlighted. Mechanistically, the intermediacy of quinone methide controls the site-selectivity, and the formation of iridium hydride serves as the rate-limiting step.

Abstract
The 1,3-oxazolidine-2-thiones (OZTs) are important chiral molecules, especially in asymmetric synthesis. These compounds serve as important active units in biologically active compounds. Herein, carbohydrate anchored OZTs were explored to develop a copper-catalyzed C-S bond formation with aryl iodides. Chemoselective S-arylation was observed, with copper iodide and dimethylethylenediamine (DMEDA) as the best ligand in dioxane at 60–90 °C. The corresponding chiral oxazolines were obtained in reasonable to good yields under relatively mild reaction conditions. This approach is cheap, as using one of the cheapest transition metals, a simple protocol and various functional group tolerance make it a valuable strategy for getting S-substituted furanose-fused OZT. The structures of the novel carbohydrates were confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and an HRMS analysis.

Abstract
A general synthesis of 4-hydroxylcarbazoles by domino vinylogous conjugate addition/cyclization/elimination/aromatization of easily prepared 3-nitroindoles with alkylidene azlactones under mild and transition-metal-free conditions has been developed. This method was also applicable to other nitrosubstituted benzofused heterocycles such as 3-nitrobenzothiophene, 2-nitrobenzothiophene, and 2-nitrobenzofuran. The valuable tetracyclic carbazole derivatives, such as 6H-oxazolo[4,5-c]carbazole and 3,6-dihydro-2H-oxazolo[4,5-c]carbazol-2-one, were readily prepared from the product, demonstrating synthetic utility of this method.

Abstract
Transition-metal based carbon-heteroatom (C-X) bond formation has attracted the attention of synthetic chemists over the past few years because the resultant aryl/heteroaryl motifs are important substructures in many natural products, pharmaceuticals, etc. Several efficient protocols such as Buchwald-Hartwig amination, Ullmann coupling, Chan-Lam coupling and metal-free approaches have proved beneficial in C-X bond formation. Selective arylation of one hetero-centre over other centres without protection/deprotection thus allowing minimum synthetic manipulation has been achieved for several substrates using these protocols. Azoles are one such novel five-membered heterocyclic core with huge pharmaceutical applications. Though N-arylation on azole-bearing analogues has been extensively practised, selective N-arylation either on one N-centre or the exocyclic N-site of the azole ring in competition with other hetero-centres in the framework has been recently explored for azole-carrying systems. Thus, this review would focus on recent advances in chemo- and regio-selective N-arylation (either on one N-centre or the exocyclic N-site of the azole ring) on azole-containing frameworks.

Abstract
ortho-Silylaryl triflate precursors (oSATs) have been responsible for many recent advances in aryne chemistry and are most commonly accessed from the corresponding 2-bromophenol. A retro-Brook O- to C-silyl transfer is a key step in this synthesis but not all aromatic species are amenable to the transformation, with no functionalized bisbenzyne oSATs reported. Simple Hückel models are presented which show that the calculated aromaticity at the brominated position is an accurate predictor of successful retro-Brook reaction, validated synthetically by a new success and a predicted failure. From this, the synthesis of a novel difunctionalized bisaryne precursor has been tested, requiring different approaches to install the two C-silyl groups. The first successful use of a disubstituted o-silylaryl sulfonate bisbenzyne precursor in Diels-Alder reactions is then shown.

Recent Advances in the Catalytic Synthesis of Imidazolidin-2-ones and Benzimidazolidin-2-ones. Catalysts 2019. Abstract
2-Imidazolidinone and its analogues are omnipresent structural motifs of pharmaceuticals, natural products, chiral auxiliaries, and intermediates in organic syntheses. Over the years, continuous efforts have been addressed to the development of sustainable and more efficient protocols for the synthesis of these heterocycles. This review gives a summary of the catalytic strategies to access imidazolidin-2-ones and benzimidazolidin-2-ones that have appeared in the literature from 2010 to 2018. Particularly important contributions beyond the timespan will be mentioned. The review is organized in four main chapters that identify the most common approaches to imidazolidin-2-one derivatives: (1) the direct incorporation of the carbonyl group into 1,2-diamines, (2) the diamination of olefins, (3) the intramolecular hydroamination of linear urea derivatives and (4) aziridine ring expansion. Methods not included in this classification will be addressed in the miscellaneous section.
