Abstract
Development of effective adsorbents for the removal of contaminants from wastewater is indispensable due to increasing water scarcity and a lack of pure drinking water, which are prevailing as a result of rapid industrialization and population growth. Recently, the development of new adsorbents and their effective use without generating secondary waste is receiving huge consideration. In order to protect the environment from primary and secondary pollution, the development of adsorbents from wastes and their recycling have become conventional practices aimed at waste management. As a result, significant progress has been made in the synthesis of new porous carbon and metal-organic frameworks as adsorbents, with the objective of using them for the removal of pollutants. While many different kinds of pollutants are produced in the environment, drug pollutants are the most vicious because of their tendency to undergo significant structural changes, producing metabolites and residues with entirely different properties compared to their parent compounds. Chemical reactions involving oxidation, hydrolysis, and photolysis transform drugs. The resulting compounds can have detrimental effects on living beings that are present in soil and water. This review stresses the development of adsorbents with adjustable porosities for the broad removal of primary drug pollutants and their metabolites, which are formed as a result of drug transformations in environmental matrices. This keeps adsorbents from building up in the environment and prevents them from becoming significant pollutants in the future. Additionally, it stops secondary pollution caused by the deterioration of the used adsorbents. Focus on the development of effective adsorbents with flexible porosities allows for the complete removal of coexisting contaminants and makes a substantial contribution to wastewater management. In order to concentrate more on the development of flexible pore adsorbents, it is crucial to comprehend the milestones reached in the research and applications of porous magnetic adsorbents based on metal and carbon, which are discussed here.

Abstract
Materials have been developed that encapsulate a homogeneous catalyst and enable it to operate as a heterogeneous catalyst in water. A hydrophobic ionic liquid within the material was used to dissolve Fe-TAML and keep it from leaching into the aqueous phase. One-pot processes were used to entrap Fe-TAML in basic ionic liquid gels, and ionic liquid gel spheres structured via a modified Stöber synthesis forming SiO2 particles of uniform size. Catalytic activity was demonstrated via the oxidative degradation of dyes. Fe-TAML entrapped in a basic ionic liquid gel exhibited consistent activity in five recycles. This discovery of heterogenized H2O2 activators prepared by sol-gel and Stöber processes opens new possibilities for the creation of engineered catalytic materials for water purification.

Abstract
Development of nanozymes, which are nanomaterials with intrinsic enzymatic properties, has emerged as an appealing alternative to the natural enzymes with tremendous application potential from the chemical industry to biomedicine. The self-assembled growth of micrometer-sized oxide materials with controlled nonspherical shapes can be an important tool for enhancing activity as artificial enzymes, as the formation of these superstructures often results in high surface area with favorable impact on catalytic activity. Herein, the growth of rod-shaped Fe3O4 microstructures via a one-pot microwave-based method and using a water-poly(ethylene glycol) mixture as a solvent is reported, without the involvement of external shape-directing agents. The precursor metal salt played a key role in the size, shape, and phase selective evolution of iron oxide micro/nanomaterials. Whereas self-assembled microrod superstructures were obtained using Fe(NO3)3 as the metal salt precursor, use of FeCl3 or Fe-acetate as precursors afforded hollow Fe2O3 microparticles and Fe3O4 nanoparticles, respectively. A graphitic layer was deposited on the Fe3O4 surface, imparting a negative surface charge as a result of a high-temperature treatment of poly(ethylene glycol). The rod-shaped Fe3O4 microcrystals show efficient peroxidase-mimicking activity toward 3,3,5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine and pyrogallol as peroxidase substrates with a Michaelis-Menten rate constant (K m) value of 0.05 and 0.52 mM, respectively. The proficient enzyme mimicking behavior of these magnetic superstructures was further explored for the degradation of organic dyes that includes rhodamine B, methylene blue, and methyl orange with a rate constant (k) of 0.038, 0.011, and 0.007 min-1 respectively, using H2O2. This fast and simple method could help to develop a new pathway for differently shaped oxide nanoparticles in a sustainable and economical manner that can be harnessed as nanozymes for industrial as well as biological applications.

Abstract
The low-cost composite film was prepared by incorporating chitosan, berry soap fruit extract (rarasaponin), and bentonite as the raw materials. The produced chitosan/rarasaponin/bentonite (CRB) composite exhibits outstanding adsorption capability toward copper metal ions (Cu(II)). A series of static adsorption experiments were carried out to determine the isotherm and kinetic properties of CRB composite in the adsorption process. The adsorption equilibrium shows a good fit with the Langmuir isotherm model; the CRB composite has maximum uptake of Cu (II) of 412.70 mg/g; the kinetic adsorption data exhibit a good fit with the pseudo-second-order model. The thermodynamic parameters, ΔH°, ΔG°, and ΔS°, obtained from the isotherm data indicate that the uptake of copper ions by CRB composite is more favored at low temperatures. This study shows that physicochemical modified adsorbent, namely CRB composite, can remove Cu (II) better than pristine adsorbent of AAB and chitosan. The CRB composite also shows potential reusability.

Abstract
HYPOTHESIS Nanostructured sorbents and, in particular, supramolecular gels are emerging as efficient materials for the removal of toxic contaminants from water, like industrial dyes. It is also known that ionic liquids can dissolve significant amounts of dyes. Consequently, supramolecular ionic liquids gels could be highly efficient sorbents for dyes removal. This would also contribute to overcome the drawbacks associated with dye removal by liquid-liquid extraction with neat ionic liquids which would require large volumes of extractant and a more difficult separation of the phases. EXPERIMENTS Herein we employed novel supramolecular ionic liquid gels based on diimidazolium salts bearing naturally occurring or biomass derived anions, to adsorb cationic and anionic dyes from wastewaters. We also carried out a detailed investigation of thermal, structural, morphological and rheological features of our gels to identify which of them are key in designing better sorbents for environmental remediation. FINDINGS The most effective gels showed fast and thorough removal of cationic dyes like Rhodamine B. These gels could also be reused up to 20 times without any loss in removal efficiency. Overall, our ionic gels outperform most of gel-based sorbents systems so far reported in literature.
